Overview: In this journal, you can ask any questions that you have about the feedback from previous milestone submissions or about the final project submission. This journal assignment will help you with the recommendation portion of the final project. Upon reviewing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website, as well as your Milestone One and Milestone Two assignments, you will gather information that will assist in creating recommendations. What is most important is that you base your recommendation on what you have researched in the book and the various reading assignments. 

Prompt: Review the CMS website and search for additional support that can be used for making recommendations in your final project. Create a journal assignment identifying any questions you still have regarding your final project. What areas or concepts in the project do you feel you have a firm grasp of at this point? A course journal is generally made up of many individual assignments. Journal activities in this course are private between you and the instructor. 

Guidelines for Submission: Your 2–3-paragraph journal assignment should follow current APA-style guidelines. Submit assignment as a Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins.

A project plan is a document created at the beginning of the project lifecycle that gives stakeholders and everyone else involved a clear idea of what the project will entail in terms of effort, time, cost, and anticipated results. 

The methodology or approach the project manager plans to use to manage the project must be identified before the project plan can be created. Choosing a methodology is important because a methodology provides the framework—that is, an overall process and suggested documents and deliverables—that will guide project development from beginning to end. Some project methodologies are more appropriate for some types of projects than for others. 

Over the next few weeks you will develop pieces of a project plan. This week you will determine your methodology based on project requirements and the components needed in your plan.

Select 1 methodology to use for a project plan for this initiative.

Create a simplified project plan such as the examples listed in the “Tips” section below. Include, at least, the following criteria:

• Name of task
• Duration
• Predecessors
• Notes

After completing your simplified project plan, write a 175-word paragraph and complete the following:

• Define which methodology, Agile or waterfall, is most appropriate for this project. Why? Cite at least 2 sources to support your rationale.
• Describe the following roles for this project: project manager, project sponsor, business analyst, and scrum master or program manager.

You may create your simplified project plan using Microsoft® Excel® or another software application of your choice.

• Consider the application characteristics and requirements when building your project plan. For example, the app will require a search feature so employees can search for available programs, will require security to protect personal information, etc., which will help with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). Note: This information will be helpful in the Wk 2 – Apply: Work Breakdown Structure assignment.
• Read the 2 linked examples of project plans implemented as Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheets: Example Plan A and Example Plan B. Use these as guides in creating your own draft project plan. Notice the differences between these 2 examples in terms of length (overall and task length), structure of the work breakdown (iterative vs. non-iterative), and methodology. 

 

Assignment Content

1. This assignment is intended to help you learn how to apply forecasting and demand models as part of a business operations plan.

   Choose 3 quantitative elements that you would like to research in relation to the organization that you selected for your business plan. These elements may be related to products, services, target market, consumer preferences, competition, personnel, resources, supply chain, financing, advertising, or other areas of interest. However, at least one of these elements should be related to a product or service that your organization is planning to offer.

   Develop forecasts by implementing the following approach:

   1. Collect data, including old demand forecast (subjective data) and the actual demand outcomes.
   2. Establish the forecasting method (from readings). Decide on the balance between subjective and objective data and look for trends and seasonality.
   3. Forecast future demand using a forecasting method.
   4. Make decisions based on step 3.
   5. Measure the forecast error where applicable. Look for biases and improve the process.
   6. Write a 525- to 700-word paper evaluating the findings from the supported data points above, and explain the impact of these findings on operational decision making. Insert charts and supporting data from Excel and other tools in your paper.
