Throughout this course, you had opportunities to clarify your passions and interests in psychology practice and scholarship, to create goals to help you achieve your vision, and to explore the competencies and requirements for pursuing a career in your specialized field of psychology. To begin this assignment:

Instructions

Complete the following in the Your Career in Psychology Template:

1. APPLICATION AND RESEARCH VISION

  • Describe your vision for your career as a practitioner-scholar.
  • Discuss how you would apply the findings from your literature review to your future professional practice in psychology.
    • What aspects of your research affected your vision or goals?
    • Given this, what topics do you think you would be interested in researching in the future?
  • Analyze how your work this quarter will help you accomplish the functions, responsibilities, and ethics required of a professional in your specialization. Remember to critically evaluate all information you use.
  • Describe how your vision was affected by the information in your readings from your Career Paths in Psychology text and in your exploration of the Career Center and other resources.

2. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Understanding the competencies and responsibilities involved in your future career in psychology is essential for growing as a practitioner-scholar in your field. It is also necessary to understand any requirements needed for your specialized practice and scholarship.

For this step in the assignment, describe the competencies, responsibilities, ethical considerations, and other requirements needed for achieving your vision and goals as a professional in psychology. These include:

  • Capella program and specialization requirements.
  • Credentialing, certification, licensure, and accreditation practices and standards.
  • Analyze the role of the practitioner-scholar model in guiding professional development.
    • Skills, abilities, and attitudes critical to success in the field of psychology, such as those related to critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, evidence-based practices, ethical integrity, cultural competence, and conflict resolution.
      • Make note of skills, abilities, and attitudes related to the practitioner-scholar model and the experience you had in researching scholarly sources in your literature review.
    • Ethical codes, principles, laws, and policies applicable to your chosen career path.

3. ACTION PLAN

With all this knowledge of your vision and goals, and the competencies and requirements for the field in hand, you are ready to plot your course to making these aspirations a reality. The final step in this assignment is to create an action plan to achieve your goals. This means translating the requirements for your profession and the development areas you identified into specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed (SMART) steps to achieve your vision.

Include these elements in your action plan:

  • Plan for completing your Capella program.
  • Possible opportunities for additional training or volunteer work to address gaps in your knowledge or skills.
  • Possible opportunities in your current position to develop additional skills.
  • Capella community groups and professional organizations that you could join for networking with others and completing additional informational interviews.
  • How you will stay current with the research, literature, and ethics in the field.
  • Steps you can take to become more inclusive in your professional life.
  • How you can apply what you have learned in this course about researching psychological literature and evaluating it in terms of reliability, credibility, ethics, and value.
  • How you will apply critical thinking and effective decision making in your specialization.
  • How you will use Capella’s support resources to develop the skills required to improve your writing and other competencies essential to the profession and to your role as a graduate learner.

Additional Requirements

  • Written communication: Should be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • Writing style: APA expectations for scholarly writing include the use of third-person narrative, unless it is awkward to do so. However, because you are talking about yourself in this paper, you may write in the first person.
  • APA formatting: References and citations should be formatted according to current APA style and format. Include a title page, abstract, and references list.
  • Resources: Minimum of five resources with at least three of them from course readings. Your references may include both scholarly literature and practitioner sources. All references need to be cited in-text, according to current APA standards. Remember that citations are to support your thoughts, not take the place of them!
  • Length: 5–7 double-spaced pages, not including the title page or references page.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12-point.
  • Template: Use the Your Career in Psychology Template [DOC] to format your assignment. Also see the Week 9 Assignment Exemplar for an example of a completed assignment.

**** I can also send a copy of my literature review for reference since this has to be based off the findings from the review****

Peers Introduction 2

Look for peers with similar degree programs, career interests, and/or locations. Be sure to discuss with them any shared challenges in searching for information or similar experiences using information.

 PEERS RESPONSE:

I’m Jessica Wilson. I live in Mineola, Texas. I have been married for 4 years to my wonderful husband. I love to do crafts. Scrapbooking. I love being outdoors and playing with my little deer head chihuahua

I have started with Arizona University for an Associate degree in Child Development. I have been around kids all my life. My family did foster care for years. We have had 290 + kids in my house. And we adopted the last two kids and they became my sisters. I also worked in 4 daycares right out of high school. I love being around kids. I want to be a Kindergarten teacher after all of this.

I have searched a lot of stuff lately. I looked up a present for my husband for his birthday. I searched for a present for Mother’s Day. I looked up things for my new house.

I used my phone and my laptop to look up.  I think I didn’t have this technology I wouldn’t be able to find different things. If I didn’t have this help I would have to look at the stores instead of on the internet.

Informational Interview & Reflection

Personal info:

I am an undergraduate senior in Denver, Colorado with a major in Finance and Minor in Marketing.

Essay Detail:

One of the most effective ways to learn about careers and job/internship opportunities is by talking with people working in the field. Even so, it is one of the most under-utilized ways of gathering information about careers.

For this assignment, you will begin to develop your network and get job search tips for the career area you are considering. The assignment will be completed in two parts:

Part 1: Target Company & Networking List

Identify six professionals (not students) who work in career areas and target organizations that you could speak to for informational interviews or job networking. None of these people can be family, friends or current students! They need to be new people you have identified through family, friends, cold calls, professors, mentors, professional web sites, LinkedIn, Pioneer Connect, etc.

Type up the information for these 6 individuals including all of the following information for each person: Name, Title, Organization, City/State, Phone and/or Email, and how you identified this contact person. You can either upload this as a separate document or all-in-one with Part 2 when you submit the assignment (this list does not count toward the 3-4 page requirement for Part 2).

Part 2: Informational Interview

Conduct an informational interview with ONE person on your networking list via Skype/Zoom or phone. This person cannot be a professor/advisor on campus unless you approve this with the course instructor.

Use the informational interviewing handouts in Canvas as a guide for setting up the informational interview and for ideas on what questions to ask. Also look them up on LinkedIn prior to the meeting to see if they have an account and to learn more about their background. There are a few questions I would like you all to ask about during the meeting:

1) The person’s educational background and the day-to-day tasks of their job.
2) The organization culture and what is it like to work in the organization. (Tip: consider asking questions related to your values. i.e. How often do you get to work with teams in your organization?)
3) Job or internship search advice. (Example: “I am going to be graduating soon and looking for a job. Do you have suggestions for me on the best way to find openings in my field?”)
4) Please ask at least 3 more unique questions that would be helpful to you. (Ideas: resume feedback, types of jobs you could pursue with your major, interview tips, ideas for additional people to meet with, etc.)

You will need to write up a reaction/reflection to what this experience was like including at minimum the following (points will be lost if you fail to clearly include the below items):

  • Who you interviewed, their job title, their educational background and what they do on a daily basis. Look up the individual on LinkedIn…did they have an account? If so, what did you learn?
  • Describe the work environment that you observed and organizational culture in detail. How does the culture relate to your personal brand and what you are looking for in an ideal company?
  • What job or internship search advice did this person have for you?
  • What three unique questions did you ask the person and what did you learn from their responses?
  • Your reaction to doing an informational interview (easier/harder than you thought?).
  • Attach a copy of your thank you note and the person’s business card or email communication with the individual that confirms your meeting.

You are welcome to include any other comments, reflections, learnings, etc. from your informational interview/curiosity conversation!

Approximately 3-4 pages double spaced (12pt font).

Develop a intervention plan

Chapter 3 Scenario: Jacy’s Developmental Screening

Objective and Scenario

To develop and evaluate an intervention plan that addresses Jacy’s language development.

Four-year-old Jacy Begay lives in a small northern Arizona town with his grandparents and two younger siblings. Jacy’s grandparents, who speak only Navajo, live on a fixed income and have health problems that limit their mobility. Jacy’s grandmother enrolled him in the Head Start program where you teach. You have observed that Jacy doesn’t always respond when spoken to, seldom answers your questions, and is often inattentive in group settings. You have developed a step-by-step plan to begin addressing Jacy’s language delays and also arranged to have his hearing tested. He passed his hearing test and his language skills are improving some, but you know that he still has significant delays.
Several months later, Jacy participated in a kindergarten roundup at the elementary school that he will be transitioning to in the fall. The developmental team weighed and measured him, and noted that he was small for his age. They screened his speech, vision, and hearing and administered a developmental assessment test. The team members reviewed the screening results and expressed their concerns about Jacy’s inattention, mispronunciations, limited vocabulary, and poor social skills. They also noted that he was quite shy, preferred to play alone, and initiated little contact with other persons in the room. The team then met with Jacy’s grandmother and, with the help of an interpreter, explained that he had passed his initial hearing and vision tests, but that his language and social development were delayed.

Focus Assignment

1. Prepare a written, step-by-step plan to address Jacy’s developmental delays. Create a two-column plan, listing the behaviors that concern you in one column and the environmental factors that may be influencing Jacy’s language and social development in the other. Describe at least three steps that you can implement to address Jacy’s developmental delays.
2. Be sure to read the REFLECTION section below to guide your thinking. Write your reflection response after you have completed your intervention plan.

Self-Evaluation

1. For each item in your intervention plan:
    a. Explain how this item addresses the issues in the scenario.
    b. Provide evidence from the chapter supporting this item (with citations).
2. Describe and justify how your intervention plan would improve teaching and learning in the scenario

statements  and  internal  control.    Your  firm  also  provides  tax  services  to  GGI.Again, you  are  preparing  to  lead  the year-end  phaseof  the  audit beginning in  January  2018.  The  last  day  of  fieldwork  is  scheduled  for  mid-February,  and  the  issuance  of  the  audit report will likely take place at the end of February.GGI  organizes  their  products  into  three  product  lines.    Their  two  historical  and traditional lines have been personal gifts like jewelry and watches, and office gifts such as desk accessories and pen and pencil sets.  Due to the sluggish or non-existent growth in  the  two  traditional  lines,  management planned  the  addition  of  a  third  line:home décor  items,  which  it  intends  to  sellto  home  décor  retailers  across  the  country.   The expansion  of  products  was  planned  in  2016, with  research  and  roll-out  scheduled  for2017.You are now reviewing working paper documentation relating to the background of the Company (in  the  permanent files),  as well  as working  paper  documentation  relating to last year’s audit(in last year’s current files), and this year’s interim audit work(in  this year’scurrent files). Please  review  the  following  excerpts  from  relevant  documents  involving  the  planning and  execution  of  the  current  year  audit.    Then  review  the  academic  and administrative requirements of this assignment at the end of the case materials.Excerpts fromthe document….“Notes and observations from my review of the GGI Permanent File, the GGI current year filesrelating to the 31 December 2016audit, and the GGI current year filesrelating to planningand interim testing for the 31 December 2017audit”(These notes were writtenby YOU,the newly appointed senior auditor, as you reviewed the files noted above…)•During   2017,   the   CEOwho   had   led   the   Company   for   7   yearsresigned.  According  to  news  reports,  the  resignation  was  a  submitted  in  order  to  spend more time with his family.  Shortly thereafter, the Chief Financial Officer and the Controller also left the Company.  A new CEO and CFO were hired before mid-year(after an “acting” CEO and CFO had been appointed and served for a couple  months)  but  the  Controller  position  had  not  been  filled  as  of  November 2017.In their first “conference call” with analysts who follow the companyand issue  earnings  estimates,  both  the  CEO  and  the  CFO  guaranteed  the  Company would meet its earnings targets.Coincidently, the new CEO is the owner of the building that the Company rents as its corporate headquarters.•The previous senior auditoron the engagement noted during interim testing that the  roll-out  of  the  new  product  line  has  not  been  going  smoothly.    In  the  early months  of  2017,  the  Company  was  engaged  in research  relating  to  a  new

procedure   to   make   their   pottery   products   in   the   new   home   décor   line unbreakable, making the products desirable to families with small children.  The Company  indicated  that  the  result  of  that  research  was  successful, and the new technology was scheduled  to  be incorporated  into  the  manufacturing  process.  However, implementing the new process took longer than expected.  Shipments of  product to  retailers  relating  to  products  in  the new  home  décor  line  did  not commence  before  the  holiday  period  of late 2017,  and  the  roll-out  was  deferred until 2018.  Because of the success of the research and long-term benefits that the research  was going  to  provide  to  the  Company,  management  has  capitalized $175,000 of  research costs as a deferred asset onthis year’s(2017) balance sheet, and intends to amortize those costs over 20 years.•Sales trends of  product  from  the  old,  traditional  product  lines  continued  to  be flat or negative during 2017.  Management was hopeful that the last weeks of the holiday ordering periodin 2017 would bring increases in sales sufficient to equal the previous year.•During 2017, management of  the Company installed a new  software package to improve  accounting  and  processing  surrounding the  purchases  and  payablesprocess at the company.  Whenthe audit team was developing an understanding of  internal  control  in  this  area(in  July  2017),  significant  problems  were  noted, including the presence of two material control weaknesses in the system.  Based on this finding, the previous senior auditor decided to test controls over payables and  purchases at  interim (November  2017) to  be  sure  they  were  working.    The work performed by the audit team has not yet been reviewed.  •In  October  2017,  GGI  entered  into  an  arrangement with  a new  customer retail chain to provide gift products for the followingValentine’sDay.  Manufacturing of  these  products  began  in  late  2017,  manufacturing  was  scheduled  to  end  in early  January,  and  shipment  of  the  product  was  scheduled  for  mid-January.  Management  believes  that  shipment  and  delivery  is  assured,  and  recognized $250,000 of revenue in October 2017.•Under terms of their employment contracts, the new CEO and CFO will receive a bonus  of 50%  of their base  salary  if  net  income for  2017 exceeds  $12,000,000.  Interim   financial   statements   for   31 October 2017 indicated   net   income   of$10,500,000, with a forecasted amount of $12,100,000 for the end of December.•Because of the robust economy, the Company has reduced the amount reported in  the  Allowance  for  Doubtful  Accounts  on  the  balance  sheet.    The  Company uses   the   allowance   method   (income  statement   approach)   and   reduced   the estimated percentage of sales deemed uncollectible from 3.0% to 1.5%.•In  2016,  management  adjusted  the  inventory  balance  for  an  impairment  due  to holding approximately $150,000 of whatappeared to be obsolete inventory.  The Company continues to hold the inventory, but believes, due to the strength of the economy  in  2017,  that  the product  will  be  sold  by  the  end  of  the  year,  and  the write-off wasunnecessary.  Therefore, management has reversed the impairment write-off from last year into incomethis year.  The previous senior auditor noted

that controls over this area were particularly strong, as the CEO herself initiated and recorded this entry.•After the Company Board Meeting in September 2017, the Audit Committeemet with  the  auditor  for  30  minutes  before  the  members  had to leave  to  catch  their planes.    The  next  meeting  of  the  Audit  Committee  is  scheduled  for mid-March 2018.A Board member who is a brother-in-law of the new CFO sits on the Audit Committee.    The  Internal  Audit  Department  manager  was  laid  off  in  2016  in  a cost-cutting  measure.    The  Company  is  seeking  to  hire  another  manager,  at  a lower salary, to report to the Controller regarding internal audit matters.•Over recent years, labor relations at the Company have deteriorated.  Employees consider themselves underpaid, as flat profitability in recent years has prevented the   granting   of   raises.      Although   negotiations   are   continuing, the   union representing warehouse  and  transportation  workers  hasthreatened  to  walk  out prior  to  the  end  of  the  year  if  wages  are  not  increased.Administrative  and financial office workers, who are not unionized, are also upset about the lack of raises.Requirements:Using as reference material your textbook and other written materials posted to the Canvas site, as well as material discussed in lecture and Zoom sessions, please address the following requirements:1.Create  a bullet  pointlist  of  risks present  at  GGI,  using  a  sentence  or  two  to describe  the risk  factor.   After  each  risk  you  identify,  pleasebrieflynote  where each risk might be classified according to the components of the engagement risk model.    If  you  believe  that an identified  riskcould  be  classified  in  the  various intersections of the model, associating a particular risk with just one of the risk areas  is  sufficient. (Remember,  there  are  often  many  ways  to  think  about how identified risks “fit in”to the engagement risk model, and many can beclassified at the areas of intersection between ABR, CBR, and AR.)It should  be very easy to identify  at  least  10  different risk  factors  in  the  case,  as  there actuallymany morethan 10.2.Based on your identification of risk factors, please assess the overall level of ABR, CBR,and the  risk  of  material misstatement  (RMM also  known  as IR+CR)separately, each on a scale of very low, low, medium, high, and very high.Briefly(as in a couple sentences) explain your assessments.3.The  factspresented  above  indicate  that  management  hasdeparted,  or  plans  todepart, from  generally  accepted  accounting  principles ina number  of  situations (each of which is an indicator or evidence of risk).  Identify one of those cases(it may also be  on your  bullet  point  list  of  risks  above), brieflydescribe  what management is  doing  wrong,  and brieflydescribe  what  they  should have  done instead. In  order  to  do  this,  you will  need  to  assess  the  reasonableness  of  the accounting  or  proposed  accounting  for the particular  issue  you  choose. If  you don’t recall the particulars of how to account forcertain issues, you may need to

engage  in  a  brief  bit  of  accounting  review/research  to  assess  whether  the accounting or proposed accounting is in conformity with GAAP.4.Thenidentify,for  one  of  the  misstated or  likely-to-be  misstated accounts, one management   assertionrelating   to   that   account that management   is likely misstating.(Each  possible  or  probable misstatement  will  misstate  at  least one accountand at least one assertion.  Identify a misstated account, and a particular managementassertion relating to it that is or willlikelybe misstated.)5.Briefly, what   is   the   implication of   the material   weaknesses   noted   in   the purchases and payables process for the integrated auditandthe audit report(s)?6.Bonus-The previous senior auditorwho supervised the interim audit work and testing of controls made an illogical and incorrect decision.  Briefly identify that mistakeand explain why it was a mistake.Administration:In order to organize your paper and facilitate my review, please attend to thefollowing instructions regarding the format and style of your paper.  PAY VERY CLOSEATTENTIONTO  THE  FOLLOWING  GUIDANCE.Failure  to  follow  these instructions   may   result   in   point   deductions   from   your   mark   on   this writing assignment.•You MUST complete this writing assignment, submit it to me, and earn at least 50% as a grade on the paperin order to fulfill course requirements.  If you donot submit a writing assignment, I will submitan deferredgrade for the course, which  will  remain  until  this  requirement  is completed,  or  when  the  deferred grade expires  and reverts  to  an “F” grade. If  you  earn  less  than  50%  on  this assignment, Iwill  return  it  to  you  for  re-writingand  improvement beforeI submit a final grade.  Remember, this assignment is weighted with 10% of your overall grade inthe course, so do your best work!•Please prepare    your paperin MS    Word,    and    email    it    to    me at [email protected]  toThursday,  6  Mayat  11:59PM.   This  isa  short extension  of  the  due  date,  and  provides  three  weeks  to fit  this  into  your schedule  and work  on  this  assignment.   Please  DO  NOT  send  your  paper  to me  through  Canvas.Send  it  to  my  email  addressabove. Please  include  a separate cover page that includes your name and student number.•There are five distinct requirements noted above (or sixif you address the bonus question).   Please  address  all  five(maybe six) requirements in  the  order  they are  presented above.   You should number  the  requirements  in  your  paper.  Please  be  sure  to  READ CAREFULLY  what  you  are  being  asked,  and  please respond fully and completely to that “ask”.  •You may write the case utilizing bullet points where appropriateor required, but bullet points should be written incomplete sentences, not phrases.  Make sure I can understand the point you are trying to make.  •Please use a single-spaced, block paragraph format(left and right justification), with  one  space  between  paragraphs  or  headings(similar  to  the  presentation of
