Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400-600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:

Additional Information: Because the decision about relocating manufacturing operations to the United States is so important, the board of directors at AutoEdge continues to systematically discuss every aspect of the situation.

The following week, CEO Lester Scholl meets you for coffee to discuss next week’s board meeting.

“I’m hearing good things about you,” he says. “Ingrid and George tell me you’ve been very responsive and helpful.”

“That’s good to hear,” you say. “I’ve enjoyed working with them.”

“We’re both busy, so I’ll get right to the point,” he says. “One of the main objectives of any business is to be efficient. Without efficiency, the company is essentially losing money. Am I right?”

“Absolutely,” you say.

“What must AutoEdge do,” he says, “to obtain economies of scale with production? How do we know that it has achieved economies of scale? Conversely, how do we know if it is achieving diseconomies of scale?”

“That’s a good question,” you say. “I can understand why you ask.”

But before you can respond, Lester’s cell phone rings. After a minute, he ends the call and stands.

“I have to get back to the office to handle an emergency,” he says. “Would you send me an e-mail with an answer to my questions, please?”

“No problem,” you say. “I’ll get it to you before I leave work this afternoon.”

“I appreciate it,” he says. “Thanks.”

SOCW 6311 Week 1 Assignment – Assignment: Accessing Information About Evidence-Based Practices

Assignment: Accessing Information About Evidence-Based Practices

The first steps toward narrowing the gap between research and practice are recognizing that one exists and educating oneself and others. Social workers must realize the benefits and eliminate the misconceptions surrounding evidence-based practice. In the Bradley episode featured in the resources, the social worker combines her assessment of Tiffani Bradley’s individual situation with her knowledge of research to evaluate her supervisor’s recommended intervention. Now that the social worker has recognized a gap, she/he/they need to access potentially relevant information for a specific case and critically analyze for its applicability to that case. This week’s Assignment allows you to practice these critical next steps in the Bradley family case.

To prepare for this Assignment, review Episode 4 of the Bradley family case study. Develop a list with 2–3 researchable questions that you could use to find evidence about the efficacy of 12-step programs or other treatments for substance abuse in adolescents. Then, using the resources provided, search for two evidence-based interventions that would be appropriate for Tiffani Bradley. Be sure to consider quality of research, readiness for dissemination, replications, and costs.

Submit a 600 – Word paper that includes the following:

  • Summaries of the two      interventions and their respective research regarding effectiveness
  • Recommendations for      Tiffani’s social worker that address the following:
    • Factors to consider when       choosing between the two interventions
    • The social work skills that       the staff would require to implement the intervention
    • The training required to       implement each intervention
  • An evaluation of      evidenced-based practice based on your reaction to the experience, in      which you address the following questions:
    • Would you, as a beginning       researcher, have enough knowledge to benefit from researching       evidence-based practices? Why or why not?
    • How might the research that       you conducted increase your confidence in the intervention with Tiffani?
    • Is the information provided       enough to make a decision regarding interventions? Why or why not?
  • Appropriate APA citations in      your writing

Must contain 3 references and citations form the following materials only.

Putting it All Together

 Assignment Description

You currently work for the development department of Sunny Manor Nursing and Rehab Center. Sunny Manor was once a privately owned small skilled nursing home in Sunny Beach, Florida until it was sold 6 years ago to a larger group of investors known for buying older nursing homes and developing them into larger more modern skilled nursing and rehab centers. Sunny Beach itself is a small retirement community close to larger beach towns. Most of the residents are 55 years or older, and there is a growing population of 70+ retired adults. However, the city is known for being technologically advanced for a retirement community. In fact, the city has a popular social media page followed by many residents and a very popular online newsletter that can be accessed through most social media programs. Also, 5 years ago, a brand-new hospital opened just outside of Sunny Beach. This brought some the top physicians and surgeons in the state to the area.

Sunny Manor recently finished a major renovation, updating the previous long-term-care wings and adding a new wing with 20 new rooms. The new wing is solely dedicated to sub-acute rehab services, and the facility also added a new updated therapy room with an expanded therapy staff and modern high-tech equipment.

After working in care coordination and admissions for the past several years, you have been promoted to the development department and tasked with marketing the new facility. The goal is to build a stronger relationship with the discharge staff and physicians at the new hospital and expand a broader reach to the community.

The first step is for you to analyze and research the changing community and develop a marketing proposal for your boss, the director of development, on how to best connect with the community of Sunny Beach and increase referrals from the new hospital.

For this task, develop a summary marketing proposal on the above scenario that includes the following elements:

  • Evaluate      the potential impact of the updated facility and new therapy services on      potential improvements in patient satisfaction and developing new      marketing share.
  • Assess      possible methods to build rapport within Sunny Beach and surrounding      communities.
  • Develop      a plan for communicating with the community better through social media by      connecting Sunny Manor to the residents of Sunny Beach through digital      marketing.
  • Provide      details on how ongoing research into the community will help Sunny Manor      stay ahead of the competition and well connected with community. Consider      concepts in monitoring the changing demographics of the community and      growing health care sector.
  • Propose      a research design model including all the key elements of the research      design. Apply an assessment tool and implementation plan such as the Model      for Improvement (Plan-Do-Study-Act [PDSA]).
  • Conclude      with recommending models and/or tools that will be used to evaluate the      effectiveness of the development teams’ efforts on an ongoing basis .

The body of the resultant report should be 7–10 pages and include at least 7 relevant peer-reviewed academic or professional references published within the past 5years.

Must follow the following Details

Critical Thinking: Organizational Change and Workforce Management (150 Points)

Saudi Hospital System (SHS, a fictitious organization) has been facing many serious issues including leadership problems, staffing deficiencies, and financial hardship. Challenges include:

  • High      staff turnover, which doubled to 20% in the past two years, is expected to      rise.
  • SHS      is in the process of implementing complex and expensive multi-year      healthcare information systems such as Electronic Health Record and other      critical-need clinical information systems.
  • SHS      is facing significant competition from other local healthcare facilities.

Last year, a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was hired. He identified the current organizational culture as apathetic, leaderless, and resistant to change. He also noted that the staff was under stress, resisting teamwork, accepting mediocrity, and compromising patient safety values and industry best practices. The CEO noted that critical human resources functions were broken and that financial performance was suffering. He attributed this to a variety of process issues as well as to the lack of focus on the core business of patient care.

In response, he decided to implement the following strategies:

  • change      the organizational culture
  • improve      human resources and workforce practices and outcomes
  • ensure      the organization’s solvency and financial viability in the long run
  • cut      costs across the board, including implementing a labor-reduction strategy      (salary and benefits), with an aggressive timeline to turn around the      financial bottom line.

Within a few months after these strategies were implemented, the SHS started to show less of a financial loss and seemed to stabilize financially. The morale of the staff, however, took a significant hit in the wrong direction. Staff turnover increased as the sense of job security decreased and as an increasing number of valued and critical staff in all areas left. Soon, SHS experienced an increase in patient complaints and lowered customer service, with signs of impact on clinical patient outcomes.

Now the CEO wants to create a dynamic long-term organization and human resources strategic plan to put SHS on the right track. To formulate and implement this plan, the CEO hired a well-known consultant who is tasked with performing a system-wide organization and human resources assessment.

Within the scope of this assessment is the development and formulation of a multilevel strategic program. This new program is to be implemented system-wide with the goal of helping SHS leaders to understand the link among finances, employee morale, human resources functions, and patient satisfaction. The end goal of this assessment is to create a culture of accountability; to shift the culture to one of services after two years; to attract, hire, and retain quality staff; and to implement best practices in workforce management.

Assume that you are the consultant whom the CEO hired to do this assessment project. Your main task is to identify the key components involved in changing the organizational culture and to identify the steps needed to generate sustainable change. Here are the deliverables that the CEO wants to see from you:

1. Develop a comprehensive organization and human resources strategic plan. The plan has two major sections: Organization Development and Human Resources.  The CEO expects you to create your plan using benchmarking and by integrating human resources and organization development best practices from other healthcare organizations, as well as from other industries.

2. The Organization Development section will address the following items:

· Workplace communication

· Motivation

· Conflict Management.

3. The Human Resources section will address the following items:

· Organizational and human resources systems that need to be in place to effect positive organizational outcomes

· Performance management system

· Process of training and development and the contribution to the organization’s bottom line

· Key action steps required to develop the plan.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be      6-8 pages in length, not including the required cover and reference pages.
  • Formatted      according to Saudi Electronic University and APA writing guidelines.
  • Provide      support for your statements with in-text citations from a minimum of six      scholarly articles from peer-reviewed journal articles.

essay giving me a summary of the movie and telling me how your chosen movie relates to the history we have studied and what you learned from watching it.

To earn extra credit, pick one of the movies from the following list.  Write a 1-2 page essay giving me a summary of the movie and telling me how your chosen movie relates to the history we have studied and what you learned from watching it. A good summary including points of both historical accuracies and inaccuracies will earn you up to five points on top of your final grade.  Any analysis over and above the basic may earn you extra points.  Analysis over and above the basic would be, for example, most movies made about historical subjects tell us more about what is going on at the time they are made than it does about the historical subject they’re portraying.  Pay attention to the dates these movies were made, points will be awarded for showing an understanding of the historical context in which they were created. For example, despite the fact that the first Indiana Jones movies ostensibly portray Harrison Ford battling the Nazis, they much more accurately portray Americans’ feelings about the Soviets and the Cold War in the 1980s, when the original movies were made.  The new Indiana Jones, while the only one actually about the Cold War, really shows you a lot more about how Americans think of the War on Terror and the post-Cold War world.  Points will be given for humor and entertainment value.  Copying any portion of your essay from IMDB or any other website will not earn you points, so don’t waste your time (and mine)!

*Double Points*

I, Claudius (1976)  One of my favorite movies of all time, it is really a BBC miniseries, so it’s about twelve hours long.  If you watch the whole thing, and prove to me you didn’t fall asleep in the middle, I’ll give you double points.  This movie covers the development of the Roman empire from the point of view of the emperor Claudius.  It is completely accurate to Suetonius’ Lives of the Caesars, which means it probably isn’t accurate historically, but it is full of all the most salacious gossip about their emperors that a wealthy empire could come up with.

Spartacus (1960) A classic epic film, the fictionalized account of an actual slave revolt that took place in southern Italy under the late Roman Republic.

The Return of Martin Guerre (1982)  The story of a medieval Frenchman who returns to his home village after having been away at war for years.  His friends and family suspect him of being an impostor.  More entertaining than it sounds from this description, it is also interesting because it is a true story, found in the French archives by a historian in the 1970s.

The Lion in Winter (1968) Yes, there is a later remake of this movie, but watch the early one with Katharine Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine and Peter O’Toole as Henry II.  This is the story of Henry’s reign in England in the High Middle Ages, his battles with France over his territories there, and his battles with his family, including his powerful wife and his pain-in-the-neck sons, particularly Richard and John.

The Seventh Seal (1957) An Ingmar Bergman film about the Black Death and its effect on European culture.  Does the film portray the ways that medieval Europeans dealt with the plague, or really just what 1950’s culture thinks about death?

The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965) Starring Charlton Heston as Michelangelo, this is the story of the painting of the Sistine Chapel, and the difficult relationship between Michelangelo and Pope Julius (the warrior pope).

A Man for All Seasons (1966)  The story of the last years of the life of Thomas More, chancellor to Henry VIII.  More was a committed Catholic and was (spoiler alert!) beheaded because he wouldn’t publicly proclaim that Henry was the rightful supreme head of the Church of England.

Elizabeth (1998) The story of the early years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England.  Pretty good on the politics, but as most of these movies do, it completely invents a romantic plot line between Elizabeth and one of her courtiers.  You can also watch the sequel, Elizabeth: The Golden Age if you want.

La Reine Margot (Queen Margot)  This is the story of the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, told from the perspective of Margot, or Marguerite, the sister of the king and the one who is being married off to Henry of Navarre, leader of the Huguenots.  It gives an interesting view of the politics of early modern France as well as their religious difficulties.  And, of course, some really bloody massacre scenes.
