Federal Budget and Fiscal Policies

Instructions

For this Unit VI Assignment, continue with the industry you selected in Unit II.  The annual association meeting of your  selected industry will take place soon. You have been asked to present a  report regarding the current status of the federal budget and fiscal  policies in place in the United States. For your presentation, write a  report (in essay form) in which you consider and explain how the current  status of the federal budget and fiscal policy will impact your chosen  industry over the next 2 years, using economic theory to support the  conclusions you draw.  Do not write your report based just on  textbook theory—address current policy and how it will impact your  industry, based on theory.  Address the following in your report as appropriate:

  • expansionary and contractionary fiscal policy,
  • fiscal policies used to close a recessionary gap and an expansionary gap, and
  • the rationale for budget deficits.

Your report must be a minimum of four  pages (1,000 words, double-spaced). You have already completed  assignments concerning your selected industry in Units II and IV.  Reviewing the information you gathered for those assignments should help  you when completing this one.  Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.  The United States Government Publishing Office website is a helpful website for finding information for this assignment.

Need tomorrow by 9pm central time

Assignment/Taskstream Instructions: 1.   Choose any chapter of the course textbook. Read the chapter and in 2 pages:  2.   At the top, write the chapter Title & chapter number, your name, ID number, Course Title, and number, and section number. Include the name of the instructor. Then: 3.   Start your writing with a Chapter Summary: What is the most important idea(s) the writer wants to communicate? This is often stated early on in the introduction and often re-emphasized in the conclusion. Finding the main point(s) gives you a framework to organize the details presented in the reading and relate the reading to concepts you learned in class or through other reading assignments or classes. Conclude #1 with a statement: What do you think the author’s goal is in writing this chapter?4.   After identifying the main points or ideas, find the supporting points: read for details, facts, and explanations that develop and clarify the main point or idea. You will find this under the headings and subheadings. Here the author identifies the core concepts (look for bold letters, concepts, and definitions). Also, look at the graphics (sidebars, diagrams, and charts, photos, etc.). These are used to help you understand complex information and distinguish among the ideas/points presented.5.   As you read, what questions come to your mind, and do you find answers to your questions as you read? •How do you do this? Easy: look at each heading and subheading. For example, if the heading is “Policing in America: Past and Present.” You might ask yourself: “What are the similarities and differences today? In this section, you are becoming a critical reader. •What effect the text has had on you as the reader. For example, does the author want to persuade, inspire, or inform you as the audience?•Critical reading can even help you hone your argumentation skills because it requires you to think carefully about which strategies effectively make arguments. In this age of social media and instant publication, thinking carefully about what we say is necessary.6.   Does the author come across as authoritative and knowledgeable?  Does the author present different points of view? Does the author present any counter-arguments and successfully rebuts them? What kind of credentials or experience does the author have?7.   Does the writer try to engage or connect with the audience by making the subject matter relatable in some way? Are there any visual appeals, such as photographs or illustrations, graphs?8.   Conclusion: Once you’ve finished, what will you tell a friend (or an adult) about what you read and what you learned from the text? Tell that person what you learned, what it made you think about, and did the chapter change your mind on the topic?

Library Assignment: Write a paper on Venn Diagrams based on article(s) found in EU library.

The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize students with the Online Library resources available at Everglades University and is a requirement to be completed and submitted for grading by the end of week 2. When constructing this document, the APA 6 format is required. You will find an APA Formatting and Style Guide in the Writing Help section (See also the web site address at the end of this page).

The body of the paper is to be about 1 page, and the paper should have a title page and a reference pages (3 pages total), typed, double-spaced, sources cited, with at least one reference from the EU Online Library. Use a size 12, Times-New-Roman font.

Assignment: Using EU library find a full-text, scholarly article(s)/journal(s) on the approved topic. To access a search engine in the EU Online Library, go to www.evergladeslibrary.com and sign in using your student number and pin.

Under DATABASE RESOURCES click the link for (LIRN) Library and Information Resources Network.

Find a full-text, scholarly article/journal on a topic that is related to Venn Diagrams (It is not necessary to be an article about Venn diagrams), and is of interest to you. Describe your reaction to the article and how the information was useful to you.

The requirements for this type of assignment is for you to fully develop a narrowly focused topic that properly cites the sources used. Discuss your thoughts about the relevance and quality of the article/journal. Do not copy and paste the abstract (abstracts are verified). Use your own words. You could use as an addition other Internet sources. Remember to cite your sources. If you use paraphrasing without citing the source, it considers a plagiarism.

Grading: The library assignment must be submitted by the end of week 2 in Week 2 Assignment(s) section. It will be graded with maximum of 100 points.

Client Side Web Programming

PART 1 (20 points): Gather data from Itunes Feed

https://itunes.apple.com/rss can generate RSS feeds for many different products in the iTunes store. For this project, we will be using the topsongs feed. The general URL for topsongs is:

https://itunes.apple.com/CODEFORCOUNTRY/rss/topsongs/limit=NUMBEROFTOPSONGS/xml

where CODEFORCOUNTRY can be “us” for United States or “ng” for Nigeria or “tr” for Turkey and NUMBEROFTOPSONGS can be in the range of 10-300.

Write Javascript using jQuery to display the following information from the XML feed to an HTML page:

a. The title of the song (3 points)

b. The name of the artist (3 points)

c. The album of the song (4 points)

d. The image associated with the song (Note that there are 3 images of different size, choose one size only) (5 points)

e. The link to audio clip (5 points) (Note that there are two link tags. Choose one.)

You can get any other information from the feed that is of interest to you. WK13 exercise will be helpful.

PART 2 (5 points): Play Audio Clips

This part requires you to teach yourself how to use the audio tag. Based on your HTML knowledge, you should be able to figure this out. For reference, look here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html5_audio.asp

PART 3 (20 points): Add User Interaction (UI)

Add the following to your HTML & JavaScript:

a. A drop down menu to choose the top songs of one of three countries of your choice. Of the three countries, choose one country (non-English speaking) whose song you have never heard. WK11 PPT slides will be helpful. (3)

b. Use a slider widget to choose the number of songs to display with a range of 5-30. WK11 exercise/demoWidgets will be helpful. (6)

c. Javascript/jQuery code to take user input and update the following link where the value for CODEFORCOUNTRY will be taken from (a) and the value for NUMBEROFTOPSONGS will be taken from (b) (8)

https://itunes.apple.com/CODEFORCOUNTRY/rss/topsongs/limit=NUMBEROFTOPSONGS/xml

d. A button when clicked will parse/read the itunes feed (3)

For every search, make sure you clear the div section where you are displaying the song information.

PART 4 (10 points): Use the YouTube API

Here is the YOUTUBE API link where searchTerm, SomeNumber and YOUR_API_KEY need to be filled:

https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/search?q=searchTerm&part=snippet&maxResults=SomeNumber&type=video&key=YOUR_API_KEY

For each song in the itunes feed, create a search term from the data you collected from the RSS feed. What would be an appropriate search term? What would be an appropriate number for maxResults?

Parse/read the data you get from the YOUTUBE API to get the id of the video. Use the id to create a clickable link to the youtube video. For example, if the id is “RFinNxS5KN4”, then the link will be “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=” + id. Do not embed the video.

Create the HTML to display the video link including all other information you gathered from the itunes feed earlier. Make sure you append the HTML within the function that parses/reads the YOUTUBE API data. WK13 exercise will be very helpful.

Error Checking: When a video id of a song is not found, instead of displaying a youtube link, print that the video for that song was not found. Test and make sure this works by searching for something that will return no result.

Code Comments (5 points)

Include comments to your code- both HTML and JavaScript. Comments should be accurate and detailed enough so that anyone who reads your code will be able to understand the program without any explanation from you. Another way to think about it is that if you read this code one year from now, you should be able to understand what the program does. If there are any issues with your code or quirks that I should be aware of during grading, include them in a readme.txt file.

Creativity (10 points)

Add your own creative style to the webpage- make it your own and impress yourself! However, do keep in mind that other people would be using the webpage (in this case, me!) so keep the colors, font size, layout, graphics etc. readable and usable. Do not choose red font on a blue background for example.

4-6 Disscussion questions PHI210 CRITICAL THINKING

4.”Fallacies and Errors in Sound Reasoning”  Please respond to the following:

  • Use the Internet to locate at least two (2) video advertisements that exhibit any of the following fallacies: equivocation, false authority, ad hominem, appeal to ignorance, or bandwagon. (Each example must exhibit one of these five fallacies.) Post the videos in the discussion. Next, identify the fallacy and how it is used in the selected advertisements. What do you think are the main reasons advertisers used the fallacy in question, is their use of this type of fallacy effective?
  • Now, consider and explain alternative strategies the advertisers could have used in order to develop a more sound and persuasive argument. Why do you think consumers ignore these errors in reasoning?

5.“Identifying Misleading Information in an Argument”

  • Consider the following argument:

There are many arguments for the elimination or modification of current U. S. drug laws, but one of the most persuasive involves what negative effects drug laws are having on society in comparison with the effects of the drugs themselves. In the past ten years, most forms of drug use have dropped significantly, especially among teens. Despite this, non-violent drug offenders accounted for 21.1 percent of the federal prison population. First time drug offenders serve, on average, a sentence three months longer than kidnappers, nine months longer than burglars, and thirty-three months longer than sex abusers. In 1992, the average cost of keeping an inmate in either state or federal prison was about $20,000 per prisoner per year. The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world, with 455 prisoners per 100,000 population. It is maintaining these prisoners at great expense in an environment where they are unlikely to develop a socially constructive attitude. Perhaps it is time that we reconsider our attitudes toward those who choose to use drugs; failure to do so may cost society even more than it already has.

  • Determine whether or not the argument uses any deceptive statistics, and explain your answer. Has the argument persuaded you? Why or why not?
  • What are the primary ways in which you use statistics or authority in your current position to develop persuasive arguments? What are some examples?

6.“Identifying Truth or Fiction”

Please respond to the following:

  • The video clip ‘The Baloney Detection Kit’ in the Webtext this week discusses the many ways in which an effective critical thinker assesses the claims made by others. Explain what you believe is the real difference between ‘science’ and ‘pseudoscience’.
  • Examine the key reasons why so many people might seem to be attracted to more pseudoscience-type claims. Describe at least two (2) such claims that you have heard people make, and analyze the main reasons why such claims do or do not meet rigorous scientific methodology standards. Determine at least two (2) ways in which the material discussed this week has changed your own thinking.

Govt 2305

Students are required to complete a research paper as part of the course. In lieu of a paper I have decided to have you all complete a PowerPoint. These PowerPoints are to be original work, which will contain both researched information and your personal analysis and application of that information. These PowerPoints are to be fact based and driven, and not to include speculations or slangs. These PowerPoints will be graded mostly on content but will need to be composed at a level appropriate for college students. You will be assigned one of the following topics to write on:

1. Outline a program that would get more people to vote in presidential elections or local elections. Provide supporting ideas.

2. What reforms could be put into place to ensure that legislators are not engaging in voter suppression? Defend your answer.

3. Do you feel that the government has adequately assisted its citizens during the pandemic? If you do please support, why. If not, what could have been differently to assist those in need? Please review other nations policies and programs that were put into place during this time.

Research Paper Guidelines:

The following guidelines must be adhered to in your assignment. Failure to do so will result in a lowered grade.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING “I,” and “ME” when writing your PowerPoints. Remember that formal papers are mostly always written in third person.

This PowerPoint should not be less than 15 slides. Cover pages and Bibliography pages do not count as part of the slides.

You must use source citations for all quotes, paraphrases, or borrowed ideas or facts on the above topic.

Do preliminary research to ensure that you have sufficient sources to support your information. In a paper of this length, you should have no fewer than three sources.

Every well-written paper should have at least three main parts, I will expect this in your PowerPoint. You should have an opening statement, which addresses the question or issue you are researching, and adopt a framework/design/plan for organizing the information/data of your research. The body of the PowerPoint should present the evidence to support your thesis. If there is contradicting evidence from your sources, you should pay attention to that also. The PowerPoint should end with a well-stated conclusion that either supports or refutes your thesis and explains why and the effect or repercussion of the issue you are researching.
