Please review the following:

A quiz was assigned in Unit 2 to review the “Understanding APA and avoiding plagiarism PowerPoint”.  Please pay attention to the following:

  1. Students will not receive credit in SPCH 1311 for plagiarized assignments: There is a zero-tolerance policy for this practice.
  2. Plagiarism can be intentional (copying, stealing, buying a paper) or unintentional (forgetting to cite, or citing work incorrectly or inconsistently).
  3. The consequences for intentional and unintentional plagiarism are the same. To avoid plagiarism, you will learn and practice, how to cite your sources using APA format.
  4. Please remember: Every sentence that is not your idea should include a citation. The first time that you cite a source please use the verbal citation in your outline (this becomes an oral citation when you deliver your speech.

Why you need verbal citations tell the audience:

  • How current the information is?
  • Where the information can be found
  • Why a source of information is credible?
  • What information was provided by the source

Sample verbal Citation: Please use this version first

In the communication textbook, Understanding Human Communication written by Adler, Rodman and DuPré (2017) culture is described as a set of customs, beliefs and traditions shared by a group of people.

Outline: After using the verbal citation for each source once: Please use the in-text citations for every other idea that comes from that source.

  1. Use the in-text citation
  2. Smith (2016) or (Smith, 2016) for every idea that comes from that source.

If you do not complete the outline and PowerPoint: You can still succeed:

  • Instead you can:
    • Written Action Plan and Oral Report.
    • You will not be required to use research.
    • You should include a time management action plan to tell the audience what your mistakes were and how you will improve your process to ensure you complete the next project that you are a part of (maximum of 70% of the overall project grade).

preparing

  1. Summarize the article’s main points. Is the article’s author making an argument? What evidence does she offer in support of her argument? Your summary should focus on the main ideas of the article. It should also be at least 4 sentences long.
  2. Digital texts are layered. They contain the author’s words and ideas but that’s not all. The article contains hyperlinks, images, etc. Hyperlinks are links to other digital sources — click on several of these and review them. What kind of information is added by reading the hyperlinked articles and web pages? Pick one hyperlink to focus on. What does reading that source add that you didn’t know before you clicked on it?
  3. The article, “How Colleges are Preparing Students for Jobs” generated a fairly heated debate in the comments section. Pretend that you are adding a comment to the article’s comment section. Write a comment for your answer to #3. Some questions to give you ideas: Do you agree with the author? What experiences or knowledge inform your response to the author’s ideas and the evidence she offers? If you had conversations with others, did those conversations influence your thinking?

Answer all questions as fully as possible. Your entry must be at least 250 words long, respond to each of the three parts of the prompt, and quote the article “How Colleges are Preparing Students for Jobs that Don’t Exist Yet ” at least once in your response.

Quantitative and Qualitative Research in Clinical Settings

Some people consider the difference between the terms “quantitative” and “qualitative” to be similar to the difference between facts and feelings. These individuals might argue that quantitative approaches are better or more appropriate than qualitative approaches, particularly in health care. They might support this argument by saying that quantitative approaches are based on numbers and concrete evidence rather than on subjective observations and opinions.

Based on the information presented in this week’s Learning Resources and Media, do you think this an accurate way of distinguishing quantitative and qualitative methods of research? Is one method inherently superior to the other? How would you describe the difference between quantitative and qualitative research to someone who was completely unfamiliar with these concepts?

This Discussion explores the characteristics of quantitative and qualitative research methods as well as the application of each in the practice setting. You examine the suitability of each method to evidence-based practice. You are encouraged to make connections between general characteristics and abstract research concepts to realistic scenarios and actual experiences in your responses to this week’s Discussion prompts.

Note: This Discussion takes place in small groups, which should have been assigned by your Instructor.

To prepare:

  • Review Dr. Shi’s comparison of the characteristics of quantitative and qualitative research presented in this week’s media presentation and in the “Overview of Qualitative Research Methods” tutorial.
  • Reflect on the Learning Resources focusing on the use of quantitative and qualitative research in health care.
  • With the two articles you reviewed in mind (one quantitative and one qualitative), think about how those types of research projects influence, or support, evidence-based nursing practice. Ask yourself: Which methodology is most appropriate for supporting evidence-based practice? What characteristics of that methodology support my conclusion?

By Day 3

Post a cohesive response in your small group that addresses the following:

  • Analyze how quantitative and qualitative research projects can be applied to evidence-based nursing practice.
  • What characteristics of quantitative or qualitative research make it the most appropriate for addressing evidence-based practice problems? Support your position.

Statistic Final Project

Good afternoon. I am preparing for the final Statistic project, and I need a 10–12-pages essay plus references. The instructions are specific, and the teacher is one of the board of directors so it must be the best of the best.

The purpose of the project is for you to gain experience in applying the methods taught in the class to a real data set of interest to you.

Project Description

The standard project is to use multiple regression analysis to analyze a data set that is of interest to you “MEDICAL INDICATION OF MARIGUANA MEDICINAL”. If you have a strong interest in analysis of variance (the topic we will cover after multiple regression), your project can consist of using analysis of variance to analyze a data set.

The final report for the project should be a 10 to 12-page paper that describes the questions of interest, “MEDICAL INDICATION OF MARIGUANA MEDICINAL”. how you used your data set to analyze these questions with details on the steps you used in your analysis, your findings about your question of interest and the limitations of your study. Specifically, your report should contain the following:

1. Abstract: A one paragraph summary of what you set out to learn, and what you ended up finding. It should summarize the entire report.

2- Introduction: A discussion of what questions you are interested in.

3- Data Set: Describe details about how the data set was collected and the variables in the data set.

4- Number or article reviewed

5- Analysis: Describe how you used multiple regression to analyze the data set. Specifically, you should discuss how you carried out the steps in analysis discussed in class, i.e., exploration of data to find an initial reasonable model, checking the model and changes to the model based on your checking of the model.

6- Results: Provide inferences about the questions of interest and discussion.

7- Statistical parameters

8- Limitations of study and conclusion: Describe any limitations of your study and how they might be overcome in future research and provide brief conclusions about the results of your study.

9- Self-reflection no more than 200 words.

SOCW 6202 Wk 1 – Assignment: Scholar Practitioner Project

Assignment: Scholar Practitioner Project

Assignment: The Disease Theoretical Model of Addiction

There are a number of theoretical models that explain addiction from a wide range of perspectives. It may be ideal to consider addiction from a broader perspective as a condition influenced by the interaction of all spheres of life: biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual.

While no one model will be all-inclusive, the medical model is more widely accepted than others in the field. The medical model, also known as the disease theoretical model, is more comprehensive than other models and is currently the most applied model in the treatment of addiction. It is the model that you are most likely to encounter as a helping professional.

For this Assignment, review this week’s Resources. Focus on the strengths and limitations of the disease theoretical model of addiction as it applies to Marge from this week’s media piece. Consider the limitations in its applicability in treatments of addiction. This Assignment will inform your Scholar Practitioner Project (SPP) for this course.

Assignment:

In a 600-word  APA-formatted paper, address the following:

Explain the key points of the disease theoretical model of addiction.

Explain two strengths and two limitations of this theoretical model.

Explain the major contributions of this theoretical model to the field of addiction treatment.

Explain whether the limitations that you identified may affect the applicability of the model in the treatment of addiction and why. Use Marge from the media piece as an example.
