Why can Prada sell a handbag for $2,000 that costs the firm a little more to manufacture than the $200 bag sold at a department store? At the other end of the pricing spectrum, why would a consumer goods company provide a coupon that makes their new snack product all but free? We learned in the Elder Care scenario that there are a number of pricing strategies firms can use to achieve their marketing objectives. Do they want to build market share, create a perception of exclusivity, or simply get you to try those new cookies?

Consider the product you are using for your marketing plan. How would you price it to achieve your objectives? Describe the pricing strategy you would use to introduce your product to the market, and why you selected that strategy over other options. Be very precise – you must use the correct terminology to receive ANY points.

For your initial post, review How to Set Healthy Boundaries and answer the following questions:

• People have varying levels of sensitivity when it comes to their personal boundaries, as well as how those boundaries transfer to the workplace. What strategies might you use in identifying personal and professional boundaries in others?

By class start time of the assignment-due class session, submit a summary of a current (within the last 12 months) business incident—found via the news media–describing the case’s ethics parameters. The document should include the student’s assessment of the ethics issues, decisions, and actions within the situation. Application of the course “ethics-driven decision model” should be demonstrated.

For your assignment, you’re either going to take a case that is already over, at least by a decision that has been rendered, or a case that is currently underway and the decision has been rendered yet. In the case that has already been rendered, you’re going to apply the seven-step decision model as if you were the decider. You’re going to validate whether anybody used any of those steps to come up with the outcome. And as you do that, if you come out with a better alternative, you’re going to recommend that as a better alternative to how the case was actually resolved in real life. If the case is not resolved, It’s underway right now. You’re going to resolve it. You’re going to figure it out. You’re going to make a recommendation and step seven, but you’re the decider. You’re the one that’s overlaying the seven-step decision model on whatever the status of the case is and deciding what the right answer is.

Content will be NO more than eight pages–double-spaced, however, your paper must meet the page count (7-8 pages). Please include a cover/title page and—as the last page–a research sources citations’ page (both of these pages do NOT count in the required page total). “Style” is “business efficient”, i.e., prose is acceptable, along with bullet points, checklists, tables, or whatever structure clearly, efficiently communicates to the reader.)

 In each lecture the professor will introduce a historical narrative about an interaction between the U.S. and a part of the African continent.  These lectures will give examples from regional, national and individual experiences.  The weekly short papers will require students to chose ONE (1) historical document from the Hypothesis exercises (if students find a different document they wish to use they need to get permission from the professor first).  In the short paper, the students must: 

 

1. Explain their understanding of the historical narrative for the event/topic of the document based on lectures, class discussions, films, and primary source documents read for the topic students choose.  Please cite in the paper from where you are drawing your evidence [reading, lecture, document, podcast, film, etc].
2. Then the student should explain the historical document they are analyzing and how it relates to that narrative – does it confirm the narrative and if so how? Does it contradict the narrative – why and how?  Or does it add nuance to the framework of the narrative and give more explanation and if so – how and why? 

 The point of this exercise is to think about how historians, journalists, filmmakers, and others create historical narratives about topics.  How does our western centered perspective shape our approach to the narratives and information?  How might African narratives of events differ from people in the U.S.?  These are questions that should underlie your approach to the short papers.
