Exercise discussion

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the benefits of regular exercise, for both body and brain

Directions

Sometimes getting started is the hardest part of being physically active. The important thing is to find activities you like to do, so you’ll stick with them. In order to help you understand how much activity you need to do on a regular basis, your task is create a sensible routine.

Start by creating a plan that will help you see the benefits of regular exercise. The following five steps will help create an exercise plan, and if you need more guidance, do an internet search using the phrase “exercise plan” or “workout plan.”

  1. List three physical activities that you enjoy doing or would like to try.
  2. Identify any special requirements or equipment you need before doing the activities you’ve listed. For example, will you need a gym membership? Do you need to purchase running shoes? etc.
  3. Set a realistic, weekly exercise time goal for yourself. Aim for at least 150 minutes or more per week.
  4. Using a digital or printed calendar, plan and label the days of the week, times, and places that you plan to exercise. Specify the activity or activities that you intend to do. (For example: Monday, 6–7 a.m., 30 min on stationary bike, college gym; Wednesday, 2–3 p.m., 60 min speed-walking with Maya, Riverside Park; Saturday, 1–2 p.m, lift weights, college gym.)
  5. Track your progress for one week. Recording the amount of time you actually exercised. If you engaged in any unplanned physical activities. Say you ended up riding your bike to school instead of taking the bus, include those, too.

Now that you’ve created your plan, the next step is to reflect on your experience. Share about your experience in a short response (250-300 words) and reflect on what you learned:

  • What kinds of exercise did you engage in, and which did you enjoy the most?
  • What was your weekly time goal? Did you meet it?
  • What worked or didn’t work?
  • What might you need to change in order to make exercise a regular habit?

Homework assignments

Competency

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

  • Apply the process of systems thinking

Lost Pines Outfitters Logo

Scenario

You are an employee at a consulting firm that assists other  businesses in solving systems problems within their organizations. Ann  Jemisin, president of Lost Pines Outfitters, a local and online clothing  retailer, has asked for your assistance. During the intake process, she  sends information on her company, their processes, and the issues they  would like you to remedy. Your supervisor has asked you to create an  analysis of the existing systems in Anne’s business. Your analysis is an  initial appraisal of the situation at Lost Pines Outfitters, making  preliminary recommendations to address the issues identified by your  client. As you write your analysis, focus on the application of systems  thinking processes and best practices to the scenario and the identified  issues.

Directions

System Analysis

Lost Pines Outfitters has provided you with a specifications document  describing the current processes in place in their business, and the  issues they would like to address through the application of systems  thinking processes. Using this information, create an analysis that  addresses the following requirements:

  • Description: Before you make recommendations to fix the system, you  must first describe the system in its current state. In your analysis, identify the parts of the current system,  and consider the main nodes of the system and the high-level processes  and components in place at Lost Pines Outfitters. Once you have  identified the parts of the system, describe the interactions and relationships between parts of the system and identify and describe the feedback loops in the system.
  • Recommendations: Once you have described the current system, examine  the problems offered by the client. Using systems thinking principles, pose recommendations to existing systems based on client needs and systems thinking best practices.  In your recommendation, consider both the interactions and  relationships between parts of the system, as well as the feedback loops  present. Then, describe the potential impact of changes to the system.  In your recommendations and description, focus on the application of  systems thinking concepts and best practices to the identified problems.
  • Modeling: Following your analysis and recommendation, construct a model of a system including recommended changes.  This model should represent your recommended changes and include parts,  interactions, relationships, and feedback loops for your recommended  changes.
  • Conclusion: In the conclusion of your analysis, describe the benefits of systems thinking within a business environment.  In this description, demonstrate how the application of systems  thinking allowed you to analyze the problems and equipped you to solve  the identified issues.

What to Submit

To complete this project, you must submit the following:

Systems Analysis
Generate a report that analyzes  the current systems in place at Lost Pines Outfitters and recommends  changes to these systems/processes in line with client requests. This  report should include initial recommendations for process and technology  improvements focused on enhancing the client’s systems. Additionally,  the report should contain a visualization modeling the recommended  system for the client.

Your report should be 900–1,250 words and contain at least one system visualization created using Microsoft Visio.

HSM 543 Scenario: Back to the Drawing Board!

Carefully Read Scenario:

Scenario

The local healthcare market’s dynamics are changing and evolving due to the increased competition between healthcare providers and systems. Things are looking up for Community Memorial as it tries to transition to a value-based care delivery system! But one day, just before lunch, you get a call from Bill Jacobs, the human resource director at Commercial Intertech (CI), the largest employer in the community. Bill says, “I wanted you to hear it from me first. We signed a contract yesterday with MegaPlan Health. It will be the managed care organization for all 4,500 of our employees and their families. About 9,000 patients total. I’m sure that you will want to get a contract with MegaPlan as soon as possible. I noticed that your hospital is not in its preferred provider network (PPN), and I am pretty sure that you will want to be so that our employees can continue using the facility.” By the time you thank Bill for the heads up, the acid is already churning in your stomach. In the hospital world, MegaPlan is known for cutthroat tactics, negotiating steep discounts with hospitals, and fighting every claim the hospital makes. Commercial Intertech has every right to contract with any health insurance provider it likes, but now you have a problem. If you cannot get a decent contract with MegaPlan and become part of its PPN, many local patients may bypass your hospital and go the closest PPN facility. Delivered to your office this afternoon, by no coincidence, is a contract proposal from MegaPlan. It calls for the hospital to provide a 35% discount from charges to MegaPlan and all of its members. And it includes service preauthorization requirements that will make life very difficult for your business office. You know from experience that the hospital loses money whenever the discount from charges exceeds 20%

Your Role:

You are the hospital CFO, trying to solve the managed care problem.

Key Players and their statements:

Dr. John Evans

Chief of Staff:

I know you are not going to like this, but probably one third of my practice comes from Commercial Intertech . . . employees, spouses, kids. I have had multiple generations of patients who all work out there. You need to sign a contract with MegaPlan and soon. I looked at a contract for my own office. It is not great, but if I don’t sign I could risk losing many of my longtime patients. And sorry to say this, but if the hospital does not sign . . . frankly, I might have to take my patients elsewhere.

Katrina Eaton

CEO:

Well, we do need to form a relationship with MegaPlan if Commercial Intertech has selected it. I would suggest preparing your own contract proposal for MegaPlan to look at. Be reasonable, but make it something we can live with. Remember, we have some power in this situation ourselves. If the Commercial Intertech employees and families cannot use our hospital, they will be forced to travel a long way for care and may even have to change doctors. That will not make them happy at all. You can bet that the HR folks at the factory will get an earful from their employees if we cannot come to terms with MegaPlan. Make your own counterproposal, and don’t panic.

Linda Freed

Business Office Manager:

There is simply no way that we can work with MegaPlan. I went through that at another hospital. They make it impossible to get claims approved, and when the payment finally comes it is usually wrong. And then we have to fight for the rest of our money. Don’t sign! In fact, tear the contract up and mail it back to HR at the factory. The employees will revolt at the factory when we say no, and MegaPlan will be sent packing down the road!

Nancy Stritmatter

CNO:

Well, as you know, my husband works at Commercial, and quite a few of the nurses here are in that situation. What happens if we all cannot even use our own hospital for medical care? I am with Dr. Evans; you’d better just sign the contract they sent, and do it today so that no rumors get started around the hospital about this situation. Our people will panic if they cannot get healthcare here in town! I could even lose some of my best nurses!

Assignment:

Given the scenario, your role, and the information provided by the key players involved, it is time for you to make a decision.

RUBRIC FOR ASSIGNMENT:

Demonstrate a strong grasp of the problem at hand. Demonstrate an understanding of how the course concepts apply to the problem.

Apply original thought to solving the business problem. Apply concepts from the course material correctly toward solving the business problem.

Write your answer clearly and succinctly using strong organization and proper grammar. Use citations correctly.

A quality paper will meet or exceed all of the above requirements.

Week 1 Discussion Discussion

ek 1 Discussion – Due

Jan 13, 2021 11:59 PMMCJ6985-Applied Professional Project SU01

The discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned. Provide a detailed response to the topic questions in the Discussion Area. For this assignment, post your responses directly in the Discussion Area; do not attach any documents.

To support your work, make sure you use your course and text readings. When asked, also use outside sources. As in all assignments, cite the sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Complete your participation for this assignment by the end of the week.

Defining Your Area of Research Interest

In this assignment, you will explore a topic and develop the same for your research project. Using sources such as those described in the online lecture material, locate two published studies (one from a peer-reviewed journal and the other from a government research organization) that relate to the topic you wish to explore. For example, if you intend to study aspects of prison rehabilitation programs, locate two studies that relate in some way. For example, you could use a study on the effectiveness of postrelease employment counseling.

On the basis of your research and analysis gathered from the chosen published studies, respond to the following points:

  • Describe the research question that the authors attempted to answer and the way they pursued the answers to these questions in their studies.
  • Summarize the findings of the authors and give your impressions on the findings. Are the authors’ findings similar to what you expected?
  • Analyze whether the studies produce results that can be used to improve some aspects of the system.
  • Describe how the methods in the peer-reviewed journal differ from the government-published report.
  • Explain how the studies selected by you relate to the topic that you wish to explore.

Assignment on using microsoft project office create admission, discharge and transfer module

Assignment 1: Application: Using Microsoft Project

Starting a project without a plan is like going on a road trip without any directions. You may progress along the way, but you might not end up at your desired destination. A project plan provides basic information that guides the execution and control of the project. At its most fundamental level, a project plan will describe the “who, what, when, and why” of a project. Microsoft Project is one of the most widely used project planning tools. The ability to understand and create project plans in Microsoft Project enables a project manager to effectively plan and manage project implementations.

In this Assignment, you generate a project plan using Microsoft Project.

To prepare:

  • Review      the information in this week’s Learning Resources on using Microsoft      Project.
  • Consider      how to efficiently schedule tasks in a project plan.
  • Think      about how you should sequence tasks that have dependencies.

By Day 7 of Week 3

To complete this Assignment, you will create a Microsoft Project plan for a patient information management system. The primary deliverable for the plan is the patient information management system itself, but it is comprised of many modules. Include the following tasks, subtasks, and timeframes:

  • Create      the Admission, Discharge, and Transfer Module (requires subtask I,      configuration period: 25 days, training period: 10 days)
  • Subtask      I: Create the Patient Registration Module (requires subtask II,      configuration period: 4 days, training period: 4 days)
  • Subtask      II: Create the Master Patient Index (configuration period: 4 days)
  • Subtask      III: Create the Patient Scheduling Module (requires subtask II,      configuration period: 7 days, training period: 15 days)

Passport Project

Passport Paper: Passport Report will be presented in written form.  The report is an opportunity to put into practice the theoretical knowledge students have gained throughout the semester as well as an opportunity to apply said knowledge to a concrete case. It is assumed that the report will be of tremendous help in shepherding a foreign family adjust to a new foreign cultural environment. The report needs to be completed by a student working on a comprehensive and in-depth report that will include and apply all the various criteria/dimensions and theoretical models discussed and analyzed in class, albeit in a practical fashion.

As a general rule, each student will need to complete a 10-page report. The final grade will be adjusted accordingly.

Report Premise: A Western family (husband and wife + 2 teenage children) plan on going abroad for the first time and live and work/study there for a minimum of 4 to 5 years. In order to better prepare them to the many cultural clashes and misunderstandings that they will inevitably experience, YOU have been tasked with preparing a comprehensive report that addresses some of the major issues that the family will certainly encounter in varying degrees. In the Intercultural Report make sure that you include the following points:

1) The Culture Shock Phenomenon (Chp 4)

2) The Cultural Universal Systems (Chp 2)

3) Social Adjustment: Etiquette and protocol, social and interpersonal communication, body language/ non-verbal communication (Chp 6)

Frankenstein Critical Analysis Evaluation Essay

First, use the selection of links below to locate a critical analysis essay written about the 1818 version of Mary Shelley’s novel. You may focus most of your attention on this first critique. If the author of your critique is not specified, focus on the publication of the critique.

Choose from among these sources:

The questions in the study guides should have helped you evaluate this criticism in your head. Now it’s time to write it down!

Your evaluation may go more smoothly if you approach the guiding questions in this order:

Evaluate the critic/author:

Who wrote the criticism you read? What credentials does the author have?  (If you are using a valid source, you should be able to find these easily)

Find the thesis of the article:

What is the thesis of the critical article you’ve chosen? What point does the author want to make about Frankenstein?

Evaluate the thesis:

Do you agree with this thesis? Why or why not? We’ve covered many ideas in the study guides. Can you find points within the guides that support your agreement or disagreement with the critical writer(s)? Look for new supporting information rather than revisiting the same ones the critics have chosen.

Evaluate the support:

Whether you agree or disagree with the thesis, does the critic provide sufficient research from the text and outside references to make a strong case? What does the article have for support from the text or outside sources? In your opinion, what makes these references valid? Do you feel the author uses this support properly?

Next, locate a second critique about the novel that includes ideas somewhat similar (genre classification, for instance) to any of the discussions you have in your essay. The second critique can either support or refute any of the claims in your paper. The objective of this portion of the essay is to further support your opinion of the primary critic’s thesis or support. Therefore, for example, if you choose a secondary article that refutes any of your claims, you will need to counteract those ideas to bring the focus of your essay back in alignment with your essay’s thesis (your personal opinion of how the primary critic is either correct or incorrect in his or her thesis claim and/or how the first critic is either effective or ineffective in his or her support). Every discussion in this essay should ultimately support the claim you make in your thesis.

For instance, if the first critic argues that Shelley’s writing is juvenile, and if you agree, does the second critic also support this thesis? How so? If the second critic does not support your assessment of the first critic’s thesis, what evidence can you use from the text to argue that the second critic is incorrect? Consider another example: if the first critic believes the novel is autobiographical, and if you disagree, does the second critic help you argue your own view of the first critic’s thesis? If so, how? Perhaps the second critic disagrees with your view and feels the novel is autobiographical– if that’s the case, be prepared to use evidence from the text to refute the second critic’s thesis and support your own argument. Using two critiques in this way will allow you to create a polished, comprehensive Evaluation Essay that allows you to connect your own ideas to those of seasoned critics.

In addition to addressing each of the evaluative components above, develop your essay so it has a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You must include an evaluative thesis statement in both the introduction and the conclusion. Ensure that each of your claims is supported with valid evidence from the literary criticism you have chosen; the novel, Frankenstein; and/or the study guides.

Using proper MLA style, insert parenthetical citations for all borrowed information in addition to a Works Cited page for Frankenstein and your chosen literary critiques; you are not required to cite the study guides if you use them.
