Choosing a Methodology

Assignment Content

  1. A project plan is a document created at the beginning of the project lifecycle that gives stakeholders and everyone else involved a clear idea of what the project will entail in terms of effort, time, cost, and anticipated results.

The methodology or approach the project manager plans to use to manage the project must be identified before the project plan can be created. Choosing a methodology is important because a methodology provides the framework—that is, an overall process and suggested documents and deliverables—that will guide project development from beginning to end. Some project methodologies are more appropriate for some types of projects than for others.

Over the next few weeks you will develop pieces of a project plan. This week you will determine your methodology based on project requirements and the components needed in your plan.

Read the Manage Your Health Inc. Case Study and complete the assignment below.

Consider the differences between Agile and waterfall.

Select 1 methodology to use for a project plan for this initiative.

Create a simplified project plan such as the examples listed in the “Tips” section below. Include, at least, the following criteria:

    • Name of task
    • Duration
    • Predecessors
    • Notes
    • After completing your simplified project plan, write a 175-word paragraph and complete the following:
    • Define which methodology, Agile or waterfall, is most appropriate for this project. Why? Cite at least 2 sources to support your rationale.
    • Describe the following roles for this project: project manager, project sponsor, business analyst, and scrum master or program manager.
    • You may create your simplified project plan using Microsoft® Excel® or another software application of your choice.

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 10 of the course text, watch the video Crime Spotting: Joy of Stats (1/6) (Links to an external site.), review the media piece How Prohibition Encouraged Women to Drink (Links to an external site.) and the journal article, “Bootlegging Mothers and Drinking Daughters: Gender and Prohibition in Butte, Montana”.

In this last discussion, we address mixed methods, which brings together quantitative and qualitative approaches in unique ways. This discussion will support you in understanding the unique application of mixed methods in research. We will also bring the weeks of discussions together by addressing the value of understanding the human experience in society through research and specifically how research reporting can aid our understanding of social phenomena as well as influence social and public policy.

In your initial post, address the following:

  • Discuss the reasons for using mixed methods. Select one of the complex mixed-methods designs (experimental, case study, participatory-social justice, or evaluation). What is an example of a study you might conduct using that particular design?
  • After watching the video Crime Spotting: Joy of Stats (1/6) (Links to an external site.), respond to the following:
  • How does the City of San Francisco currently use its crime data? Explain the value of this data to the citizens in the city and the police service.
  • The level of data collection, police service planning, and community advocacy involved in the program highlighted in the video would add a significant financial cost to city operations. Other than the safety of citizens and supporting police efforts, can you think of two key reasons why San Francisco city leaders would want the city to be safe?
  • As an example of another form of research reporting; we can also be informed of the human experience through a review of historical and secondary data. After reading the media piece “How Prohibition made Women’s Drinking More Acceptable” (Links to an external site.) and the journal article, “Bootlegging Mothers and Drinking Daughters: Gender and Prohibition in Butte, Montana”, respond to the following:
    • Indicate the social problems or issues highlighted in this research article.
    • Explain the experience of women in Butte, Montana during the prohibition. How were their actions a reflection of their social circumstances?
    • How can an understanding of the society of prohibition era Butte, Montana, help us understand society today? What does it say about the effects of public policy on society?

Your initial post should be at least 650 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.

Please can you generate a topic on this within 24 hours because it needs to be approved by the lecturer

In this assignment you are going to simulate data from an area chosen by yourself. It can be cyber related, healthcare, industrial, financial/credit card fraud, commerce – anything. However, run your ideas past me first before diving in. If you recall from the dplyr tutorials we were able to simulate small amounts of data based on several dataframes. We then linked the data we required using join() commands, etc. We then obtained summaries of the data and could use ggplot2 to highlight trends, etc.
Carefully, choose your domain. Give a rationale for simulating it.
Define your data frames, generate them using sample_n and/or other commands. There is a package called charlatan you may find useful for generating personal names and other values. About 4-5 dataframes will suffice.
Think about seeding trends and patterns in your simulated data that you can “detect” later.
Use dplyr to extract the columns you need from the dataframes.
Use some sort of analysis such as summaries to get statistics on your data. Break it down by a category variable such as e.g. time, gender, fraudulent V normal, etc.
In the write-up, I will expect to see an introduction section, methods, and then sections for Simulation of data and transforming data, Analysis of data; marks for plots should of course be in the Analysis section.
Part 1: Analysis of the Data (70 marks)
You will need to develop R code to support your analysis, use dplyr where possible to get the numeric answers. Regarding ggplot2, be careful as to what type of plot you use and how you use them as you have many records and want the charts to be readable. You should place the R code in an appendix at back of the report (it will not add to word count).  Section each piece of code with # comments and screenshots of outputs.
Simulation of data (20 marks)
Transforming data (10 marks)
Analysis of data and plots (20 marks)
Write-up of the data analysis (similar format of my R tutorials) (20 marks)
Part 2: Scale-up Report (30 marks)
The second part will involve writing a report. Now assuming your Part 1 was an initial study for your organisation, what are the issues when you scale it up and start using it in practice?
Discussion of Cyber security, big data issues, and GDPR issues (20 marks)
Structure of report, neatness, references. Applies to both Part 1 and Part 2 (10 marks)
Penalties: Do not go over word limit of 3,000 (other than ±10%) as loss of marks will occur according to the university guidance on penalties.

Synopses & Analyses Report

Our opening weeks have focused on exploring general sound track components and narrative. For this report, I would like you to find a short scene (1-2 minutes) that stood out to you in Catch Me If You Can, create a shot list, and describe the sound track elements (speech, sound effects, and music). You can find ways to view the movie through our UNT library in the module introduction page.

You can find all information on your Synopses and Analyses Reports here. (Make sure you use the required worksheet to complete your report!)

Deliverable 4 – Mapping Change

Competency Analyze methods for understanding and mapping change in an organization.

InstructionsDelta Pacific Case Study Click for more optionsYou now have been tasked with mapping out an organizational culture change Delta Pacific Company (DPC), another role and responsibility as a change leader for the organization. It’s important to have a change plan set before the change actually occurs. This is for a few reasons:

  • Increases the probability of success
  • Enables you to weigh options
  • Provides knowledge so you can make an informed decision
  • Allows for proper identification of the change and steps needed
  • Allows for identification of what might occur during the change

Since you are the change leader, your first step is to map the change using a change management model. You are aware of the extensive change the organization is undertaking with a shift in production to consulting. However, profitability has still declined even with training and resources in place. As the change leader, select one of the change management models and map out the organization’s goal of changing the culture from the more traditional manufacturing environment to one of a contemporary consulting environment.Conduct academic research and create a proposal to the CEO and board in which you complete the following for approval of the change plan:

  • Explanation for why the change model being used is most effective for this change.
  • Description of the change map to include details for each step.
  • Examples of what to expect during the change process.
  • Explanation for each of your recommendations in each step of the change model.
  • Remember that this is a proposal. Make sure to format your paper properly for your proposal. A proposal is a persuasive document, so make sure to use proper language and tone. Remember, you are the change leader and you are writing to the CEO. So use a tone in your proposal that is specific to your audience (the CEO).

Include your APA-formatted reference page with at least two credible sources.A note about credible sources: Credible sources are reliable, accurate, and trustworthy. These sources are written by authors respected in their fields of study. You want to identify sources where the author of the article is listed if they’ve referenced other information. The sources should be cited so that you can check for the accuracy of, and support, what they have written.

English 2 Discussion Prewriting

Discussion: Share Your Prewriting

In Module 2, you developed a research question for your project. In Modules 3, 4, and 5, you researched to find sources to answer that question. In this discussion, you will begin the process of answering that research question.

Using one of the prewriting strategies covered in this module, you will generate ideas and work with those ideas to identify three to five main points that you can make in support of your answer to your research project. Next week, these main ideas will be used to create your thesis statement and a detailed outline. For now, though, let’s just get some ideas down and share them in discussion so that your peers and instructor can provide you with guidance.

Offer Your Initial Thoughts

Your initial response this week must include the following information, allowing your peers and instructor to provide you with feedback on your ideas.

  • Your research question
  • A discussion of the prewriting strategy you chose to help you generate ideas (freewriting, brainstorming, mapping, etc.). Which one did you use and why did you choose that one?
  • Include your actual prewriting in the discussion (or a screenshot if you used mapping, clustering, or another visual method).
  • List the main ideas you think will be best for supporting your answer to your research question.

Below I have provided guidance notes on the already chosen research topic and possible sources to use. If you need to use better sources, you are free to do so.

 case scenario

You want to start a restaurant business in Oman. The proposed business will have a variety of fast foods. The cost components include materials, and overheads based on sales unit. Fixed cost include salary and rent of the premise. Materials = $ 10 per unit Overheads = $ 20 per unit Sales = $ 50 per unit Fixed cost = $ 20,000 per month Materials include vegetables, groceries, and poultry products. The company will buy materials from the local suppliers daily. Suppliers will be paid after 60 days. Customers of the firm are youngers and families. Customers will pay immediately and therefore there is no credit sales. Noncurrent assets for the proposed firm include furniture, machinery, and equipment.

q1: What is the difference between step-wise cost and curvilinear cost? Elaborate the methods to measure the cost behavior?

q2:  A) The proposed business comes under which industry type? Write a brief discussion about the length of operating cycle and capital investment cycle for the proposed business? Use illustrations from the case scenario to support your answer.

q3:  C) Do you feel that the firm will be effectively managing its operating and capital investment cycle? Which among these are favourable and unfavourable for the firm? Justify.

legal health record

Once again, AHIMA steps up and provides a thorough source to guide the HIM professional on a host of documentation issues. Some of this information leads into next week’s content regarding storage of sensitive PHI.

The guidance for designated records is particularly timely as health technology expands the types of records flowing into the PHI data set. Digital x-rays, scans, and other diagnostics, interoperability that provides for a host of consult dictation becoming part of the record, home monitoring, telemetry monitoring, and a myriad of other documents must be addressed. Should they be included or is a narrative sufficient? If included where are they stored? How long are they stored? What exactly does the EHR include?

The Key to Maintaining Medical Records | SmartsheetPhoto Credit: https://www.smartsheet.com/medical-records-management

For years healthcare organizations have struggled to define their legal health records and align them with the designated record set required by the HIPAA privacy rule. Questions often arise about the differences between the two sets because both identify information that must be disclosed upon request.

The expanding scope of health records adds to the challenge of defining and compiling these record sets. An individual’s record can consist of a facility’s record, outpatient diagnostic test results or therapies, pharmacy records, physician records, other care providers’ records, and the patient’s own personal health record. Administrative and financial documents and data may be intermingled with clinical data.

In addition, the type of media on which information is recorded is also expanding. Source records may include diagnostic images, video, voice files, and e-mail. The organization must determine which of these data elements, electronic-structured documents, images, audio files, and video files to include.

The emergence of electronic health records (EHRs) also is complicating organizational efforts to define and disclose information. Information in EHRs is often stored in multiple systems, inhibiting the ability to succinctly pull together the record for either the legal health record or the designated record set.

These input systems may include laboratory information, pharmacy information, picture archiving and communications, cardiology information, results reporting, computerized provider order entry, nurse care planning, transcription, document imaging, and fetal trace monitoring systems, as well as a myriad of home-grown or individual clinical department systems.

However, the same criteria that organizations used to determine what paper records to retain and include in their legal health records and designated record sets can be applied to electronic records. Questions organizations must ask include:

What information can be stored long term?

What is clinically useful long term?

What is the cost of storage?

How can the organization effectively and succinctly assemble the EHR for long-term use?

This practice brief compiles and updates guidance from four previously published practice briefs to provide an overview of the purposes of the designated record set and the legal health record and helps organizations identify what information to include in each. It also provides guidelines for disclosing health records from the sets. The four original practice briefs are listed in the “Sources” section at the end of this practice brief.

Fundamentals of the Legal Health Record and Designated Record Set

Provide a plan for guidance for defining of electronic record health sets based upon AHIMA standards.

Include each of the following aspects in the assignment:

Ø  Access the AHIMA document: Fundamentals of the Legal Health Record and Designated Record Set

Ø  Create a chart with columns to place each of the five criteria to evaluate when defining what is part of the HER

Ø  Locate the five criteria in the middle of the document

1.  Identify Relevant Regulations, Standards, and Laws

2.  Determine Records Created in the Course of Business

3.  Address Retention Requirements

4.  Consider How Data Would Be Produced

5.  Classify External Records

Ø  Place each criterion in a column and list how you will define each

Ø  Submit your Word document chart to the drop-box

Ø  Cite the AHIIMA reference. APA is not required but as always proper grammar, sentence structure and spelling is expected. There is NO copy/pasting. Everything must be in your own words.

Week 6 Assignment – Applying the IMPACT Model

You have been appointed by the chief of police to represent the police department in communicating with a newly formed civilian police oversight board. Board members have no law enforcement experience and are very vocal about defunding the police and potentially eliminating the police department entirely. They are concerned with a lack of information from the department when a use of force incident occurs.

Using the IMPACT model, detail each of the six steps that you would use to establish communications with the board, address their concerns and emphasize the importance of law enforcement to the community. The chief and administration have committed to make changes in the department’s policies and training to include de-escalation, crisis intervention, and body cameras for all officers. Part of your mission is to communicate these changed to the new board while establishing trust and transparency.

Preparation

Review the six steps of IMPACT Model from your textbook, Law Enforcement Interpersonal Communication and Conflict Management: The IMPACT Model:

  • Identify and manage emotions.
  • Master the story.
  • Promote positive behavior.
  • Achieve rapport.
  • Control your response.
  • Take perspective.

Instructions

Using the IMPACT model, develop a 5–7 page plan for addressing the conflict with the civilian police oversight board, in which you:

  • Define the conflict between the board and the police department.
  • Use the IMPACT Model to address the conflict.
  • Explain at least three initiatives that the department can incorporate to help resolve the conflict.
  • Use five credible, relevant, and appropriate sources to support your writing. Cite each source listed on your source page at least once within your assignment. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.

This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment is:

  • Review strategies to improve discretionary decision-making.
