Evidence Based Practice and Nursing Research – Hand Hygiene – NEED ASAP

I have already chosen the Research article and Non-research article to be used for this paper (please see attached).

Please see the assignment rubric below:

A.  Discuss the impact of a clinical practice problem on the patient(s) and the organization it affects.

1.  Identify the following PICO components of the clinical practice problem:

•   patient/population/problem (P)

•   intervention (I)

•   comparison (C)

•   outcome (O)

2.  Develop an evidence-based practice (EBP) question based on the clinical practice problem discussed in part A and the PICO components identified in part A1.

Note:  Refer to “Appendix B: Question Development Tool” for information on the creation of an EBP question.

B.  Select a research-based article that answers your EBP question from part A2 to conduct an evidence appraisal.

1.  Discuss the background or introduction (i.e., the purpose) of the research article.

2.  Describe the research methodology.

3.  Identify the level of evidence using the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model.

deductive

Exercise: Deductive & Inductive Reasoning

In Chapter 3, you have read about the two types of human reasoning, “deductive” and “inductive.” Deductive reasoning relies on logical  relationships between claims and tells us, given what we know or assume  to be true, what must necessarily be true. Consider the following example of a deductive argument in the form of modus ponens:

Premise 1: If it is raining outside, then I have an umbrella.

Premise 2: It is raining outside.

Conclusion: Therefore, I have an umbrella.

In this example, if the premises are  both true, then the conclusion is guaranteed to be true. What this means  is that premise 1 and premise 2 are logically related such that if both  are true, then the truth of the conclusion is required. In other words,  if it is true that “if it is raining outside, then I have an umbrella,”  and it is true that “it is raining outside,” then it cannot be false  that “I have an umbrella”….because that’s just what it means to say “if it is raining outside, then I have an umbrella.” You may be thinking, though, that it is  quite possible that it is raining outside but I forget my umbrella. But  notice that this would make the first premise false. It is false that  “if it is raining outside, then I have an umbrella,” when it is raining  outside, but I don’t have an umbrella. In fact, that are no conditions under  which it is true that “if it is raining outside, then I have an  umbrella,” and it is raining outside, but I don’t have an umbrella. This  is because, again, that’s just what it means to say that “if it is raining outside, then I have an umbrella.” On pp. 45-46, you read about some of the most common deductive argument forms and you saw examples of each. These are: modus ponens, modus tollens, and the hypothetical syllogism. You may see more deductive argument forms here: Deductive Argument Forms Because moral arguments are always  deductive, you read more about them than about inductive arguments.  Still, inductive arguments are an important part of human reasoning so I  will say a bit more about them here. Rather than relying on logical  relationships between claims, inductive arguments draw conclusions on  the basis of observation and experimentation. Inductive reasoning, then,  is the backbone of the scientific method. While deductive reasoning is  characteristic of logic and mathematics, inductive reasoning is  characteristic of the applied sciences. At a very basic level, we are taking inductive reasoning for granted when we assume that the world really is  the way we observe it to be. For instance, I observe a computer screen  in front of me, so I assume that there really is a computer screen in  front of me. But is it guaranteed that there is a computer screen in front of me simply because I observe it? You might reply, “Well, of course, and  you can touch it too!” However, if you have ever had a very vivid dream,  or if you have seen the 1999 movie, “The Matrix,” then you will admit  that there are situations we can imagine in which I observe a computer  screen, but there really isn’t one there. (A note: This question of whether, and  to what extent, we can rely on our observations will become relevant  again in our module on environmental and animal ethics. It will be  discussed further there, along with ethical issues related to scientific  claims. It is also a topic we discuss in my Introduction to Philosophy  class quite a bit.) For a critical thinking class, though, our goal is to determine what is most likely true, or what is most reasonable to believe.  I typically say to students at this point, “It is not most reasonable  to believe that we are in the Matrix, so we will leave this problem of  induction behind for now…” Then one semester, a student replied,  “Yeah, I bet that’s what people in the Matrix think too.” Indeed! Yet, at some point, if we need to decide  what we should do, we must make that decision about what is most  reasonable to believe. Overall, there just aren’t enough things we know  with the strength of deductive reasoning to rely only on what is  guaranteed to be true. When we don’t know what is guaranteed,  we must still decide what is most likely true. That is exactly what  science helps us to do. In particular, the scientific method helps us to  make good generalizations and is indispensable to causal reasoning. Read more about inductive reasoning here:

Kris Barton & Barbara G. Tucker: Inductive Reasoning ______________________________________________________

For this assignment, you will be demonstrating your understanding of deductive and inductive reasoning. First, create your own example of each  of the three deductive argument forms discussed on pp. 45-46: modus  pones, modus tollens, and hypothetical syllogism. I gave an example of  one, modus ponens, above, about it raining outside and me having an  umbrella. That’s exactly what I’m asking you to do. Don’t use my example  or an example from the book or internet. Just think of your own example  to show you can create the argument forms. It is only necessary to create one  example of each argument. Please state the argument so that the logical  form is apparent rather than discussing your argument in a passage. You  may use this format:

1. premise

2. premise

 3. conclusion

Your examples should look just like my example of modus ponens above, only with your own original content. To show your understanding of inductive  reasoning, answer the following using the reading in the textbook and  the link provided above:

1. What is inductive reasoning?

2. How does inductive reasoning differ from deductive reasoning?

 3. What is a generalization?

4. What is causal reasoning?

 5. What is sign reasoning?

6. What is analogical reasoning?

7. Describe a situation where you have used one of the types of inductive reasoning that you defined in questions 2-5. To be clear, your submission to this  dropobox should include:

 1) one original example for each of the three  deductive argument forms, and

2) your answers to the seven questions  above.

ENG 2322 MOD 6 Portfolio Bell

Portfolio

ENG 2322

College of Professional Studies

Project #4: Portfolio

Your syllabus includes the following information about your portfolio:

Portfolio: At the end of the semester, students will choose 2 of the essays they have written, substantially revise them, and, in an appendix, provide samples of process writing related to the two major papers. The portfolio should begin with an introduction that contextualizes the artifacts and accounts for any course outcomes not directly seen in the artifacts.

I will evaluate the papers you submit and assign a grade to the portfolio, which is worth 100 points, approximately 10% of your final grade for ENG 2322. The portfolio is your opportunity to showcase your best work. This is your time to shine! The portfolio will represent your work during the semester and should exemplify your ability to write, as well as revise and edit your own work. You should submit your entire portfolio in ONE Word document.

Portfolio Components:

· The portfolio should begin with an introduction that explains which two papers you chose and why. The document should also contain a statement about your writing strengths and weaknesses, as well as a plan to address your weaknesses as you continue to write college-level papers. Next, you should work to discuss whether you believe you have met the specific learning objectives for this course (see below). Finally, the introduction paper should contain a realistic assessment of your work – what grade do you think your portfolio deserves, and why?

Primary Learning Objectives

(1) Determine appropriate rhetorical techniques to apply   in response to rhetorical situations

(2) Use the writing   process to discover and reassess ideas

(3) Compose valid   arguments in multiple modalities

(4) Support   arguments with appropriate types of evidence

(5) Evaluate sources   for accuracy and authority

(6) Navigate print   and digital repositories of information

(7) Use the   rhetorical situation to determine the appropriate citation system

(8) Describe how inquiry contributes to a life of   significance and worth

· After your introduction, you should include your two revised, polished essays that you have chosen to showcase from this course. As a reminder, your options are Project #1, Project #2, and Project #3. Because you have had the opportunity to write, identify errors, and correct them, you are expected to submit papers that are very clean and well written.

· After your two polished essays, you should include an appendix that contains the prewriting work that went into your two essays (e.g., brainstorming, journal entries, outlines, drafts, etc.). This appendix should show how your writing has been a process this semester. If you have handwritten any process work for your essays, you can take pictures of it and include those pictures in your Word document.

Writing Instructions

· Save your documents with your “Last Name Assignment Title” (EX: Smith Project #4).

· Assignments must use APA document formatting and citations.

Assignments must fulfill assignment requirements and be proofread to be graded

Topic and Proposal

Assignment Expectations: As part of your Research Project, the first assignment requirement expects students to write and submit a topic proposal.  Students must select a topic within the historical parameters of the course, History of the United States since 1865. Consider a person, event or idea that you want to learn more about within the context of this class. My suggestion is that you think about a topic that is related to your area of study at UMGC. You can also skim through the Learning Resources section of each week under Content in our LEO class site to get some ideas. Or you can continue scrolling to the end of this learning block for a list of ideas. The list provided is by no means exhaustive, just some ideas to get you started. You can also email your instructor for suggestions or help narrowing down a topic idea. Just note, as this project is one you’ll be living with for the term, you should find a topic that interests you before setting out on the project itself

Assignment Directions: Once you have selected a topic, students will need to write a short proposal for instructor approval. Your topic proposal should be typed in a word document, doubled spaced with a minimum word count of 100 words. In this proposal, students should explain what topic they selected and why. Your proposal must include a working thesis statement with the understanding that it may be slightly modified later in the research process. Should you have further questions about submitting this proposal, please do not hesitate to reach out to your instructor.

Students should also make sure that their topic is not too broad. A topic on the Civil War or Salem Witch Trials is fantastic but might be a bit overwhelming as one gets further into research. Consider narrowing down your topic a bit. For instance, you might research medicine during the Civil War or the accusers involved in the Salem Witch trials.

Submitting Your Work: Students can submit their work under Topic and Proposal directions. Click on this assignment, scroll to the bottom of the page where you see “Add Attachments,” and then attach assignment here. Students can also submit this assignment through the Assignment tab. Students will also see the rubric attached to this assignment. Please make sure to review the rubric before submitting your final draft.

U.S. Health Care History and Foundations

U.S. Health Care History and Foundations

DUE DATE JUNE 12th

It is essential to be able to identify, examine, and understand the history and foundations of health care in the United States, as this will be the foundation for understanding health care systems through this course and in practice.

For this assignment, you will need to display a thorough understanding of the framework for and dates of events regarding health care in the United States, while clearly demonstrating the impact and importance that these events have had in the medical field.

You will create a chart that includes a minimum of 10 significant dates in the history of health care. In your timeline, make sure to include the following:

  1. Important events or eras in health care and their impact.
  2. Major figures and their contributions to health care.
  3. The formation of the various health-related organizations.
  4. Major medical advancements or discoveries.

In addition to the chart, write a 500-word paper that identifies the determinants of health and their relationship to defining population health needs. Looking forward, predict how current health care reform policies, coupled with population health needs, will impact the future of health care.

A minimum of two references, in addition to your textbook, are required for this assignment.

Reforms in Healthcare and Role of Nursing Practitioner

The United States is among the few nations in the world with arguably the most complex healthcare system in terms of funding and nurses to patient ratio. The US expenditure is more than any other country on healthcare services. It currently spends about 2.5 times the average of the other countries with high incomes (Brom, Salsberry & Graham, 2018). Different administrations that have been there before made various steps towards reforming healthcare.

One major reform was the introduction of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) during President Obama’s administration (Brom, Salsberry & Graham, 2018). The ACT has helped millions of poor Americans to access quality healthcare. However, the increasing number of patients seeking healthcare through ACA has surpassed the number of nurses therefore exacerbating the shortage of nurses in the US (Brom, Salsberry & Graham, 2018). The idea to fund the training of more nursing practitioners through programs like Graduate Nurse Education is important since it will continue to fill in the gap of the physician shortage.

One major shortcoming of ACA is that it depends on commercial health insurance coverage. Health insurance providers are still trying to increase profits rather than improve the care facilities required or expand empathy and caring, both for-profit and non-profit (Contandriopoulos et al., 2016). The central role of these firms is to collect deposits, pay bills and advertisement fees, which typically absorb between 20% and 25% of premiums, along with revenues (Contandriopoulos et al., 2016). ACA constitutionally restricts this duplication and ineffectiveness at 20 percent (Contandriopoulos et al., 2016). This means that health insurance firms will invest an infinite amount of money in administrative care and structured profit administration.

Finally, the use of data in the healthcare sector is among the reforms that have influenced the role of nurses. Since ACA put more pressure on nurses to perform better by having great results in the delivery of quality care, nurses can achieve great outcome if they make use of data generated by the healthcare system (Contandriopoulos et al., 2016). Meaningful data assist nurses in making a sound decision that improves healthcare that is evidence-based.

IFSP

 PLEASE FOLLOW RUBRIC

Students will select a vignette about a family with a child who is eligible to receive early intervention services. Students will complete a blank IFSP form will all relevant information based on the case of Kim. You can add in any information that may not be addressed in the case study. You can save the document as a Word Doc on your PC and upload it to the dropbox once it is completed (5 points).

Students are then required to determine the family’s resources, priorities, and concerns and then generate long-term outcomes (functional goals) and short-term goals for the IFSP. Furthermore, students will write a separate narrative including the following points:

Based on the information students have about the family, they will list their resources, priorities, and concerns related to enhancing the child’s development. Students will write two long-term outcomes (functional goals) for the child and family. This is a statement of what the family would like to see happen as a result of early intervention services. The outcomes may be developmental goals for the child or be related to the family’s ability to enhance the child’s development. The outcome must be functionally stated, in family terms and measurable. (5 points)

For each long-term outcome, students will write three short-term goals. Short-term goals are building blocks that lead to the achievement of the long-term outcome. These goals should be written from the perspective of what the child should be able to accomplish, should represent an end result, and should be functional and measurable. (5 points)

I want a two paragraph answer of the question regarding the essay below (as soon as Possible)

You mention the ways of searching and importance of finding peer reviewed, scholarly articles.  How do you best determine what search engines to use to find these articles?  Is google.com a good way to search?  Why or why not?

Searching for evidence that can improve nursing outcomes

Improving nursing outcomes is essential in nursing practice. Setting up the levels of care provision helps in improving the quality of nursing care delivered and patient’s outcomes. Nursing outcomes, however, can be enhanced through theoretical viewpoints. The theoretical approach can offer adequate information that nurses require to enhance their practice skills and knowledge. Searching for evidence is often not easy; it is quite a challenging task that requires good skill sets. I will search for articles that are up to date and peer-reviewed. However, the most critical aspect is to ensure that the article has adequate information that can be used to enhance nursing practice decisions and skill set. The chosen article explains how nurses can incorporate evidence into a newly designed unit to improve patient’s outcomes.

Concerning evidence integration, the article elaborates the need to incorporate well-understood ideas form research into practice. In aspects of nursing, education and science, the impact of evidence-based practices (EBP) resonated. The call for improved care and clinical improvement based on evidence underscores the need for safe, healthy and productive care redesign. In line with the numerous guidelines of national experts, initiatives have been implemented which maximize significant contributions which the caregiver should, should and will make in order to fulfil the EBP commitments fully. These initiatives include the introduction of realistic programs and curricula for training and reform, the theoretical models and innovations and the creation of a national research improvement network for research in new areas of technology and science.

The chosen article was prepared by Tafelmeyer, Wicks, Brant, & Smith (2017). It is a recent article that approves the integration of evidence into clinical nursing practice. The article targets nurses who are situated in newly built nursing departments. However, it can be generalized under nursing practice as its information addresses all aspects of nursing practice. It expresses its point clearly and concisely through which all nurses can well understand and object to implement into their actual nursing practice. Sources used to cite the article appear very credible and citable. When sharing evidence, I can think of creating posters, presentations and paper distributions. I can put up stickers like reminders that I can put on the work fridge, on walls containing information and reminders as to what nurses are supposed to implement but in a concise manner.

Moreover, I can prepare presentations and give them in the form of fliers and magazines that individuals can read in their own free time. Besides, I can choose to share the information on social media where most of my colleagues are found. I can also create a website where all required information on improving nursing outcomes can be found and also where my colleagues can also post as well as retrieve necessary documents. Finally, I can seize an opportunity during nurse team meetings to present my ideas on how to enhance nursing practice for better and improved patient outcomes.
