Summarize and Present Information in a Meaningful Way (5-6 PP slides w/speaker notes, 75 word min.per slide) w/title page and references

Consider the following scenario, continued from the Unit 1 Individual Project:

Big D Incorporated needs to prepare an assessment regarding the feasibility of making a recommendation for expansion into another market. As the business analyst, your assignment is to prepare a short presentation for the Board of Directors that apply concepts learned in Unit 1 and concepts from Unit 2 to make the necessary recommendations and justifications for those recommendations. You will need to compare and contrast the varying markets to make the best recommendation possible. Complete the following:

  • Download the reports for the United States from this Web site. The Web site provides free demographical services where one can choose from a variety of criteria and generate reports based on the U.S. Census data. This particular file contains 4 reports:
    • General Summary
    • Census Trend 1980 to 2000 Summary
    • Occupation and Employment Summary
    • Income Summary (based on the entire United States)
  • Download the reports for zip code 60614 from this Web site. This particular file contains 4 reports:
    • General Summary
    • Census Trend 1980 to 2000 Summary
    • Occupation and Employment Summary
    • Income Summary based on the U.S. zip code 60614
  • Using all 4 demographic reports (General Summary, Census Trend 1980 to 2000 Summary, Occupation and Employment Summary, and Income Summary) for the United States and zip code 60614, prepare a 1-page summary slide explaining how your territory differs from the national profile. Feel free to note anything that you found surprising in the data.
  • Use the BI software you choose to depict information from these reports.
  • Prepare a presentation of 4–5 slides of your major findings. You may group a category of data from the Total United States and zip code 60614, and create a graph to show how they differ. The presentation should have at least 2 graphs and a headline that summarizes a key takeaway from the graph.

Your presentation should include 5–6 slides in PowerPoint, plus title and reference slides with speaker notes (75-word minimum per slide).

For assistance with the usage of Tableau for analysis and reporting, review and use the instructions below. Those should be helpful if you are having problems with the software usage or data. However, you do not need to use Tableau. For BI software usage such as Excel, resort to using the Help functions and other resources on the Internet and in videos to learn how to use Excel to create graphical presentations including table usage.

The instructions to create a bar graph in Tableau (optional) or in another BI software are as follows.

  1. Open the assignment CTU instructions.
  2. Download the BI software.
  3. Create your Tableau Public Account.
  4. Click the download link for the 60614 file (file will open in Excel).
  5. Click the download link for the U.S. file (file will open in Excel).
  6. The following are some options:
    1. Create separate demographical worksheets (e.g., Educational Attainment or Household Income). Include zip code and U.S. data.
      • See a sample of the file available with column headings and extraneous blanks.

  1. Create a file with data organized without extraneous rows and columns but including headings.
  2. The idea is to clean up the file before usage. Separating files and worksheets may be the best way to make this happen
  3. Note that in the real situation, when using BI software, you will want to ensure that your data are clean and that you have similar data in your files.
  4. Save the file(s) on your computer.
  5. Open Tableau. Then do a File > Open > Open on your saved file.
  6. At the bottom of the screen on the left, click on the little box next to Sheet 1 (looks like a bar graph with a plus in the top left corner).
  7. Under “Measures” (on the left), you should see “Chicago” and “U.S.” Click on “U.S.,” and pull it into rows at the top of the screen. Then, click on Chicago and pull it over into rows.
  8. Under “Dimensions” on the left, you should see “Household Income.” Click on “Household Income,” and pull it into column.
  9. In the second column from the left, you should see “Measures.”
  10. In the top right corner, you should see a “show me” box illustrating ways you can view the data based on the values you have chosen. To do side-by-side comparisons, put your cursor over the rightmost picture on the third line with the side-by-side blue and orange bars. Click on it. Your graph should appear on the page. You can play around with how you want to portray your data.
  11. To save in Tableau Public, click File > Save to Tableau Public as… > give the file a descriptive name. You will be asked to log into Tableau Public using your e-mail and password.
  12. When your graph is saved in public, at the bottom right, there is a download button. Decide how you will save the file. (You can create an image and name the .png file. It will be saved in Tableau Public.)
  13. After the file is saved, open the .png file, and edit or copy the graph.
  14. Open your PowerPoint file, and then paste (special) it on the slide. You can adjust the size.
  15. Repeat the same in Tableau opening of any other prepped and cleaned file.

Note: Measure values are your number fields; measure names are the descriptors.

National Football League (NFL) Diversity and Inclusion Analysis

National Football League (NFL) Diversity and Inclusion Analysis

Your team will work collaboratively to create a PowerPoint presentation consisting of 12-20 slides. The title slide, reference slide, and section header slides (if included) do not count towards the 12-20 slide requirement. Students should use the material presented in the NFL’s TIDES report, as well as information obtained through independent research, to complete the project. All sources must be cited in APA format, with parenthetical in-text citations throughout the presentation, and a reference slide in APA format must be included at the end.

Requirements

Since you will not be presenting in person to the class, you will either need to (a) include detailed comments and information in the “notes” section at the bottom of each slide to expand upon your slides’ bullet points, OR (b) include voice narration as part of your presentation (this can include one or more members from your group).

The following elements must be included in the PowerPoint presentation:

• Begin by addressing the following general question: How do you define optimal diversity within an organization?

o The rest of the presentation should focus on the specific professional sports organization (the NFL or NBA) your team has chosen to analyze.

• Organization profile (2-3 slides suggested) o This should be more of a diversity profile, and not a general overview of the organization itself.

Summarize the information from your organization’s TIDES report (hint: check out the executive summary), and supplement with other outside sources if necessary.

• Present statistics regarding demographics related to your organization. o This will require outside research; the organizations’ official websites are good sources for this. o At a minimum, you should outline the workforce statistics for your organization. Look for employee

breakdown by gender, ethnicity, age, disability, etc. (keep in mind you might not be able to find information for all of these categories – just gather as much as you can).

o In addition, include any demographic information you can find regarding the player base, coaches, owners, and/or audience.

• Key stakeholders – who is (or should be) responsible for the implementation of diversity initiatives at the organization, and from whom is it critical to get buy-in for those initiatives?

o Identify roles and responsibilities for those involved (this should include a range of people including organizational leadership, HR, managers, and employees).

• Discussion questions (each question should have its own dedicated slide(s), for a total of at least three slides for this section).

1. The Rooney Rule was established in 2003 to increase the number of minority coaches in the NFL. Has it been effective? Explain your answer.

2. Describe the impact the 2009 expansion of the Rooney Rule had on diversity within the NFL. 3. What should the NFL do to improve its diversity on all organizational levels? Provide specific examples.

• Strategic focus o How do current diversity initiatives tie into the overall business/organizational strategy? o Could a more diverse and inclusive workforce benefit the organization? Why or why not? o What metrics or other methods should the organization use to measure the effectiveness of any

current or recommended diversity initiatives? Provide specific examples. • Conclusion/wrap-up • Reference slide (APA format)

You are working for a local department store in the Operations Department. Since you began working with this organization, you have noticed that your team members are more comfortable with technology. However, the available technology in the store has not been updated. It is also apparent to you that as technology has improved in our society, so has the types of deviant behaviors that occur, and you’re aware that deviant behaviors in both the physical world and in digital environments can impact business practices.

With the observations that you have made, you approach your boss who has also noticed an increase in deviant behaviors within society and has an overall concern about how the store can be impacted.

Because of his increasing concern about the impact of deviant behaviors on the store, and his knowledge of your familiarity with the subject, you are asked by your supervisor to create a video collage that will demonstrate your interpretation of deviance in the digital world and the impact it can have on the store you are working in. Your supervisor informs you that this video collage will be presented to your supervisor and colleagues in order to help you and the business determine the types of deviance that need to be addressed, and how to effectively manage it through daily operations. Your supervisor encourages you to use a variety of visual representations in order to captivate your audience and get your message across.

For this video collage, you are to reflect and address the following questions and information.

· What is defined as deviant in the physical world?

· What is defined as deviant in the digital or online world?

· Compare and contrast deviance between the two environments.

· Consider various forms of deviance in both the physical and virtual worlds, and explain how they impact society.

· How would Conflict Theory define deviance?

· How would Symbolic Interaction Theory define deviance?

· How do the theories discussed impact the meaning or interpretation of deviance in a digital or online environment?

· How do you envision that deviance in the virtual world, or deviance due to technological advances, can impact your store?

· What are some ways to manage various forms of deviance in the day-to-day operations of your store?

Assignment 3:  Immigration and Citizenship: Presentation

Assignment 3:  Immigration and Citizenship: Presentation

Presentation – Due by 11:59pm ET on Sunday of Week 7

This week, we focus on the controversial topic of immigration and citizenship. As you learned there have been several distinct waves of immigration in U.S. history, beginning with the conquest of Native Americans by Europeans. From 1840 to 1860, 4 million immigrants entered the United States mainly from northwestern Europe, followed by another 25 million from 1880 to 1920. The “newest” immigrants are those arriving in the United States after 1960, some 24 million mainly from Latin America and Asia.  For this assignment, students will demonstrate and expand their knowledge and understanding on immigration and citizenship.

Within the presentation,  students will answer the following questions:

· What is meant by immigration and citizenship? What is the difference between the two?

· List three reasons why people immigrate/migrate to the United States. Please be specific.

· Identify and discuss two United States immigration laws.

· Explain how immigration has at least 3 positive impacts on the United States.

· Explain how immigration has at least 3 negative impacts on the United States.

· Discuss sociological views on illegal immigration.  Apply three social concepts and one social theory. Sociological theories include functionalism, conflict theory, feminist theory, symbolic interactionism, and others as mentioned in our readings and materials.

· Discuss three ways to improve legal immigration.

Do not use unverifiable, secondary sites such as Wikipedia, about.com, ask.com, and similar. Use our course materials, peer-reviewed journal articles from the library, and other scholarly sources that are no more than five years old.

Include at least 3 peer-reviewed journal articles no more than five years old.  Also, include and apply what you learned from the textbooks and assigned readings.

The presentation should utilize sound critical thought and it should include appropriate APA in-text citations and full APA references at the end.  To avoid academic dishonesty, as with all assignments and posts, most of the information presented should be in the students’ own words/voice.

The structure of the presentation must include the following:

— TITLE SLIDE (1 slide)

— BODY OF PRESENTATION WITH SUBHEADINGS TO IDENTIFY EACH SECTION 12 slides minimum; 16 slides maximum)

— REFERENCE SLIDE (1 slide minimum)

You may use a presentation program of your choice such as any of these which offer free use:  Prezi Powtoon Adobe Spark Google Slides Canva Visme ,  LibreOffice SlideDog HaikuDeck , or Powerpoint.  Please attach, embed, or provide a link to your presentation to submit it for grading.

Create a 10-15 digital slide presentation as professional development for your school’s chosen leaders on the coaching cycle, including how to provide appropriate feedback.

School administrators must regularly evaluate the needs of their school and analyze the abilities of the faculty and staff in being able to meet those needs. When supporting school leaders it is important to provide them valuable, empowering professional development opportunities that enhance their abilities to provide effective guidance and leadership to others.

Create a 10-15 digital slide presentation as professional development for your school’s chosen leaders on the coaching cycle, including how to provide appropriate feedback.

Address the following within the presentation:

  • Explain the criteria and processes for selecting faculty leaders
  • Explain the coaching cycle and its value within your school.
  • Describe expectations regarding the quality of feedback and how feedback should reflect the school’s culture and incorporate respect.
  • Provide two specific examples of implementing the coaching cycle within your school (one with faculty and one with support staff).
  • Title slide, reference slide, and presenter’s notes.

Support your findings with 2-3 scholarly resources.

List four sources of no more than two of a kind that you anticipate using to build your argumentation. This means no more than TWO websites, so make them good!

Digital Presentation: Arguing a Position

Digital Presentation: Arguing a Position

So remember how I told you not to take a side in an argument about your research ? To save it for later?

It’s later.

For the final assignment for ENG 111, using your same topic and resources from your 2, generate a digital presentation  of at least nine slides that takes a side on an opinion associated with your topic and use your sources to defend your opinion.  You will still be responsible for MLA in-text citation and a works cited slide at the end.

Let’s take the case of a student a few students in different scenarios for the research.

  • We’ll call the first one Maia. Maia did her research about travel nursing. Maia may want to suggest that travel nursing is not a career that would be good for a single mother with school-aged children.
  • Maia’s friend Katie also did her research about travel nursing, but she is wondering if travel nursing is a good idea right now in the age of COVID-19. How can Katie stay safe?
  • Katie broke up with her boyfriend Cameron recently because he refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Cameron said he was overwhelmed about which vaccine to take, but why should he? He’s just turned 18. 18-year-olds can’t die from COVID, can they?
  • Cameron’s best friend Ben just can’t wait to go on another mission trip to Costa Rica as soon as COVID is done. Ben found out while doing his research that it’s recommended he not go to Costa Rica due to increased crime. Why has crime gotten bad in Costa Rica?
  • Ben’s girlfriend Carly wants to study sociology, so she did hers about enculturation. She found out enculturation means patterns of culture are obtained and transmitted, while acculturation means adapting to the culture. She has always wondered if substandard English is a result of enculturation or acculturation.

Notice how all of these scenarios ended with an open-ended question.

  • Maia could use the resources she found about travel nursing to see if they address how children of travel nurses would be accommodated.
  • Katie could use her resources to see how travel nurses are protected against COVID-19.
  • Cameron could use his resources to see which, if any COVID-19 vaccine has been effectively used on 18-year-olds.
  • Ben could use his resources to find out why crime has increased in Costa Rica and what he could do to protect himself when he does get to go back.
  • Carly uses her sources to decide that substandard English patterns are a result of acculturation.

Maia, Katie, Cameron, Ben, and Carly all used the same sources for their research and final presentation because they didn’t have to find a new topic and their works cited was already done.

One more scenario for you: Carly’s friend Chloe did her research about cognitive heuristics, but she doesn’t want to do that again. Chloe’s friend Jason did his report about the Bahamas, and he thinks reporting about pirates or the environment is hokey.  They don’t have to “recycle” their topic if they are willing to do all the research for a new topic.

But if  they’re not, they should probably e-mail their English teacher with help in finding a related topic to what they already have.

Got it? Let me know if you don’t!
