Create a 10-14-slide presentation that captures the following information:

Read the Case Study Scenarios and choose between one of the hypothetical cases of Mei Lei, Lakeesha, or Vincent. With the understanding that you are a career counselor, analyze the client’s career counseling needs in accordance with one of the following career theories: Super; Holland; Dawis & Lofquist; Krumboltz; and Lent, Brown, & Hackett. Within your analysis, explore the contextual issues within the case related to culture and family and develop a tentative plan for assisting this client with their career development needs. Create a 10-14-slide presentation that captures the following information:

  • Basic demographics such as age, sex, race, and education
  • Career development thus far
  • Reason(s) (external and internal) for seeking career counseling
  • Any unique problems or situations that may influence the counseling session (e.g., disability, economic problems, mental health problems, cultural considerations, relationships, or life roles) and how you would address these issues
  • A detailed overview of your career theory of choice. Be sure to identify the major concepts associated with the theory
  • An explanation of how the career theory’s major concepts could be used to conceptualize (understand) your client’s situation and counseling needs and/or guide your selection of helping strategies and techniques.
  • Information needed for the initial assessment
  • Steps in the career development process
  • Four career resources (two online and two local) that may be useful in facilitating the career development of the client
  • At least two career assessments tools you would use to facilitate the career development process and discuss how the results of each assessment tools may benefit the client.
  • Application of one ethical principle
  • Application of at least two standards from the NCDA Code of Ethics
  • Referrals needed (if any)
  • Include at least five scholarly references.

Title slide and reference slide are not included in the slide count. Include speaker notes below each content-related slide that represent what would be said if giving the presentation in person. Expand upon the information included in the slide and do not simply restate it. Please ensure the speaker notes include a minimum of 100 words.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Research Design, Strengths and Limitations, and Rationale

Research designs and methods are not created equal. Each design and method has its strengths and limitations. True experimental research designs, for example, tend to have higher levels of validity compared to ex post facto designs. Once you decide on your research design this week and the method, which you will cover in Week 8, it is important to evaluate limitations of each and consider how you will attempt to prevent or minimize them in your study.

Either determining research questions or the research design might come first; most likely, you will circle back from one to the other until they are aligned and one flows logically from the other. It is necessary to have both in place before deciding on your methodology.

To prepare for this Assignment, review the Learning Resources for the week. Your research design represents the structure of your study. In other words, the research design includes (a) elements of treatment; and (b) the number, type, relationship, and strategies to control the variables you are studying.  It also includes (c) the number and type of individuals or groups in your sample.  Finally, the research design includes (d) the measurements; (e) sampling methods; (f) data collection time frame; and (g) setting (Walden University2010).  Research methods are used to carry out research designs; methods fall under two broad categories: (a) Quantitative (e.g., experimsental, quasi-experimental) and (b) qualitative (e.g., case study, grounded theory, ethnography) (Trochim & Land, 1982). More on that in Week 8.

Again, your problem statement and research questions will help you determine your research design, and your research design will help determine your research method.  In this Assignment, you will select a research design and examine its appropriateness for your potential research.

In your Discussion assignment, you have posted at least two research questions. In the Week 7 Assignment, using the required readings and media resources on research design, write 4-5 pages (a) describing at least one potential research design you could use, (b) the strengths and limitations (including reliability and validity issues) of that design selection, and (c) the rationale for your selection: Finally, explain how your problem statement, purpose statement, and research questions align with your proposed methodology and design. Be specific.

Attached is my proposed topic plus draft outline of what you can use to complete the assignment.

**Here is my research questions

Dissertation Topic:

African American Male Juvenile Rehabilitation versus Incarceration Punishment.

Problem Statement:

African American male juveniles face brutal punishment that includes spending a long time in correctional services. To help prevent the offenders reoffending, it is critical to introduce rehabilitative programs among the offenders than providing direct punishment.

Purpose:

The research aims at identifying the difference that exists between juvenile rehabilitation and incarceration punishment among African-American offenders. When the individuals are released back into society from incarceration punishment, most of them get involved in other criminal activities.

Research Questions:

1. What youth programs focus on deterring criminal behaviors of juvenile offenders?

2. What was the recidivism rate for juveniles that faced immediate punishment, compared to those that received delayed punishment?

3. What are the risk levels on recidivism with juvenile offenders? Which juveniles risk levels are more likely to recidivism?

week 15 discussion post

For many years the National Science Foundation (NSF) has con-ducted surveys of the public attitudes and understanding about science and scientific knowledge. The results inform policy development, legislation, and funding for scientific research and science education in the nation. NSF reports: “In 2002 the survey showed that belief in pseudoscience was relatively widespread. . . . For example 25% of the pub-lic believed in astrology . . . , at least half the people believe in the existence of extrasensory perception, . . . 30% believe that some of the UFOs are really space vehicles from other civilizations, . . . half believe in haunted houses and ghosts, faith healing, communication with the dead, and lucky numbers.” Form a small working group with one or two others in your class. Do steps 1, 2, and 5 as a group. Divide the work among yourselves for steps 3 and 4.  1.  Review the public information on the NSF Web site, particularly the public understanding of science and technology part of the NSF’s most “Science and Engineering Indicators” report.  2.  Define the words pseudoscience and science in a fair-minded and reasoned way.  3.  Survey 10 of your friends and family members about their views on astrology, extrasensory perception, and ghosts. In each case invite them to use their critical thinking skills and explain why they believe what they believe.  4.  Objectively summarize the reasons pro and con for each of the three topics.  5.  Using the Holistic Critical Thinking Scoring Rubric in Chapter 1, evaluate the quality of the thinking pros and cons for each of the three topics. Explain your evaluation.

On the Job Training of the Process Change

Using the customer survey feedback from the previous assignment, you will now create a pre-shift.

As a reminder: You are still the Front Desk Manager at your hotel – and a good one! You have an excellent relationship with your staff and a clear focus on internal and external guest service. You have received the following feedback from a customer survey:

We arrived for our late check in at 9:00 PM. We found the driveway empty and no one to help with our luggage. We left our car on the driveway and made our way to the front desk for check in.

Olivia at the front desk told us that the suite we had reserved was no longer available and she would place us in a regular room until the next day. How does this even happen? We CALLED to tell you we were checking in late. Olivia took my cell phone number and said she would call me when the room was ready to move into and that a bellman would help us with our luggage.

We still had to drag our luggage to the regular room before we could call it a night. No apology, no offer for assistance, and Olivia didn’t seem to care.

We received no call from the front desk the next day and had to contact the hotel at 4:00 PM and demand to speak to a manager before anything was done. It took a long time for the bellman to arrive and take us to our suite.  The suite was lovely, and the manager who met us there was apologetic and brought us a nice amenity, but this shouldn’t have happened to begin with!

  • In the previous assignment we learned the main cause of the problem was a process problem. Assume you also learned that employees have been handling it themselves rather than attempting to fix the problem.
  • Write a one-page pre-shift training with the intention of sharing the learning with all employees involved. List the departments that would be involved.
  • This training will be conducted On the Job in pre-shift meetings until all employees have been reached. It must be positive, indicate the problem that was solved, and offer employees a different solution should something similar occur in the future.
  • You will record a member of your group delivering the pre-shift training.

Writing assignments in this class are given as a way to get you to connect your life experiences with the course content. Critical thinking and reflection are expected as you examine and identify the content with your own experiences.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

Summative Discussion Board

Review and reflect on the knowledge that you have gained from this course. Based on your review and reflection.

  • What were the most compelling topics learned in this course?
  • How did participating in discussions help your understanding of the subject matter? Is anything still unclear that could be clarified?
  • What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information?

The main post should include at least 1 reference to research sources, and all sources should be cited using APA format.

Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with a reply of 100 words about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening.

student 1:

I have taken a homeland security class in undergrad and I was not pleased with it at all. The material was very hard to follow as we had to memorize a lot of acronyms. I was dreading this class because I thought It would be the same as before but I was pleasantly surprised when I actually ended this class. I was able to learn the material in a different manner and the class flowed very well. The discussions helped because we later used that same information for our individual projects so that made it easier to understand and complete. The instructor was very thorough and I appreciated the extra material that was provided in reference to writing skills. Overall, I learned not only about terrorism and homeland security, but my writing skills as well.

student 2:

What were the most compelling topics learned in this course?

Most all the topic in this course was compelling because since I started in this course I have learned many different things about how the laws work for different things. For instant learned how the Homeland Security work and how it is broken down into the different departments that is involve to get things done in order to make sure what each department duty is so that nothing fall through the wall because things wasn’t done like they should because the person or persons who work in each department are doing the job that they are getting paid to do.

How did participating in discussions help your understanding of the subject matter? Is anything still unclear that could be clarified?

The discussion board was the best thing that the school could have around because will the communication through the discussion board you are able to see and learn from one another about the assignments, so that you are able to see how other students write about the same assignment but in a different way. Another thing is that from the discussion board you are able to learn things that you don’t about because like the old saying is that you aren’t never to old to learn something because will don;t know everything because if we did we wouldn’t have to go to school all because it will be useless. There isn’t anything still until to be clarified because with all of the communication in the classroom and discussion board you are communicate that is the best thing that could happening at this time in school.

What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information?

Nothing could be yielded because everything that the the way that we are doing in school now is great and done make any changed because the way things is going in the right direction without any problem or problems because everyone is on the same page  because everyone is communicate the way the such so that we get to know each other.
