Create a 6- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation on a social movement for change in your community that you could share with local politicians or other influential leaders.

Social movements are usually caused by disruptions in society based on a need for social change. Social movements can start from a grassroots level, like the Me Too Movement, or from changes at a macro-level, such as gun policies by politicians.

Identify a social issue happening in the United States today that is relevant to your interests and that you would like to see changed. You can choose a micro-level problem, such as speeding in your neighborhood, or a macro-level problem, such as racial inequality. Examples include problems such as graffiti in parks, gang violence, illegal immigration, gender inequality, police brutality, online bullying, destruction of community property, personal property theft, parking violations, speeding, improper disposal of pet waste, gun laws, or legalization of marijuana.

Imagine that you are part of a social movement or a local community forum that has formed around this issue to address the need for social change.

Create a 6- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation on a social movement for change in your community that you could share with local politicians or other influential leaders.

Include the following in your presentation, using speaker notes as needed for details:

  • Describe the current factors that are influencing the social issue you would like to change.
  • Provide at least 2–3 examples that explain why this social issue is a problem for your community or society.
  • Describe the social issue through the lens of one of these theoretical perspectives:
  • Functionalism
  • Conflict
  • Symbolic interactionism
  • Describe the social structures you would recommend to address this issue. Explain the need for these social structures and their potential impact on creating social change.
  • Explain how a movement for social change in this issue could affect society. For example, changes in gun control laws may reduce the number of single-person shootings.

Create a leadership development plan for yourself. The plan should be put into effect over the next one to two years.

Final Project

Instructions: Follow each point as outlined, nothing should be missing.

  1. Each student should prepare a “My Personal Leadership Development Plan” in a PowerPoint presentation. The length of the presentation will depend on the value you place on your leadership development.
  2. Using what we learned in class from the discussions, instruments, assignments, and readings, do a complete analysis of your leadership style and effectiveness.
    • What have you learned about yourself?
    • What areas do you need to work on to be a more effective leader?

Guidelines for Personal Development Plan

  1. Identify the behaviors that you need to stop doing and others that you need to start doing. It is assumed that over the semester you have reflected on these actions and will want to take steps to change your behavior to become a more effective leader.
  2. Use the five practices of exemplary leadership discussed by Kouzes & Posner (1987). Reflect upon which practice best exemplifies you.
  3. Use any combination end-of-chapter questionnaires, observational exercises, and/or reflection to guide your discussion.
  4. Discuss at least two leadership theories that resonated with you and your style. Do not just write a definition.
  5. Provide a specific list of strategies (i.e. action steps and timeline) for your leadership development and justify them on the basis of your above discussion. That is, show how your discussion of leadership concepts informs your choice of action steps.
  6. Create a leadership development plan for yourself. The plan should be put into effect over the next one to two years.

You should submit

  • A PowerPoint presentation. As this is a business class, your presentation should reflect business standards in quality, structure, and presentation. Include a title slide. Review consistency of format, font, font size, appropriate use of graphics to text, length of text, etc.
  • Cite your sources where applicable on each slide (APA style).
  • Include a References slide in APA format.

TIPS

  1. PowerPoint slides should contain bullets, not long paragraphs.
  2. Use graphics, charts, pictures to emphasize, not overwhelm, your text.

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of the health promotion plan you developed in Assessment 1, with detailed speaker’s notes that include your evaluation of session outcomes. Speaker notes should reflect what you will actually say when you conduct the face-to-face session.

Build a slide presentation (PowerPoint preferred) of the health promotion plan you developed in the first assessment. Then, implement your health promotion plan by conducting a face-to-face educational session addressing the health concern and health goals of your selected community member or group. In addition, collaborate with any participants in setting goals for the session, evaluating session outcomes, and suggesting possible revisions to improve future sessions.

As you begin to prepare this assessment, you are encouraged to complete the Vila Health: Conducting an Effective Educational Session activity. The information gained from completing this activity will help you succeed with the assessment as you consider key issues in conducting an effective educational session for a selected audience. Completing activities is also a way to demonstrate engagement.

Professional Context

Health education is any combination of learning experiences designed to help community individuals, families, and aggregates improve their health by increasing knowledge or influencing attitudes (WHO, 2018). Education is key to health promotion, disease prevention, and disaster preparedness. The health indicator framework identified in Healthy People 2020 helps motivate action in such areas as health service access, clinical preventive services, environmental quality, injury or violence, maternal, infant and child health, mental health, nutrition, substance abuse, and tobacco use.

Nurses provide accurate evidence-based information and education in various formal and informal settings. They draw upon evidence-based practice to provide health promotion and disease prevention activities to create social and physical environments conducive to improving and maintaining community health. When provided with the tools to be successful, people demonstrate lifestyle changes (self-care) that promote health and help reduce readmissions. They are better able to tolerate stressors, including environmental changes, and enjoy a better quality of life. In times of crisis, a resilient community is a safer community (ODPHP, n.d.; Flanders, 2018).

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to apply teaching and learning concepts to the presentation of a health promotion plan.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 3: Evaluate health policies, based on their ability to achieve desired outcomes.
    • Evaluate educational session outcomes in terms of progress made toward Healthy People 2020 goals and leading health indicators.
  • Competency 4: Integrate principles of social justice in community health interventions.
    • Evaluate educational session outcomes and the attainment of agreed-upon health goals in collaboration with participants.
  • Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly communication strategies to lead health promotion and improve population health.
    • Present a health promotion plan to an individual or group within a community.

Note: This is the second part of a two-part assessment. You must complete Assessment 1 before completing this assessment.

Preparation

This assessment builds upon Assessment 1 where you contacted and secured local individuals or group in your community who were open to a presentation about a health concern and health promotion strategies. Once again, you will assume the role of a community nurse tasked with addressing the specific health concern within your chosen community. This time, you will implement the health promotion plan that you developed in Assessment 1 as a PowerPoint presentation. This presentation must be live and face-toface. You know that you must determine an effective teaching strategy, communicate the plan with professionalism and cultural sensitivity, obtain input on the value of the plan to the individual or group, and revise the plan, as applicable, to improve future educational sessions. To engage your audience, you decide to develop a slide presentation to communicate your plan. A copy of the slide presentation could also be given to the individual or group for future reference.

Remember that your first assessment (Assessment 1) MUST be satisfactorily completed to initiate this assessment (Assessment 4). These assessments meet the three-hour clinical learning experience required in this course

Please review the assessment scoring guide for more information.

To prepare for the assessment, you are encouraged to complete the Vila Health: Conducting an Effective Educational Session simulation. You may also wish to review the health promotion plan presentation assessment and scoring guide to ensure that you understand all requirements.

Note: Remember that you can submit all, or a portion of, your draft plan to Smarthinking Tutoring for feedback before you submit the final version for this assessment. If you plan on using this free service, be mindful of the turnaround time of 24–48 hours for receiving feedback.

Assignment 3: The Importance of Metadata
Due Week 4 and worth 100 points

This assignment contains two (2) sections: Written Report and PowerPoint Presentation. You must submit both sections for the completion of this assignment.

Section 1: Written Report
Imagine that the CIO comes to you with a frustrated look on his face. He has realized that metadata is a key foundational piece of a data warehouse. He asks you to write a report that emphasis the importance of metadata, the types of metadata, and the impact of metadata on the ETL process. He shows you an article that states that faulty metadata will lead to poor information from the data warehouse. The executive team is eager to move forward but the risk of faulty metadata is making the CIO apprehensive.  He reiterates that the report will be used to explain metadata to the company’s management team. He reminds you that the team comprises of technical and nontechnical stakeholders. In your report, you must show why metadata is a major building block for a data warehouse and how it impacts ETL.

Write a three to five (3-5) page paper in which you:

1. List and explain three (3) differences between data dictionaries used in database management systems and metadata that is used in data warehousing.
2. Identify three (3) primary reasons why metadata are important in a data warehouse.
3. List three (3) significant differences between business and technical metadata. Explain why each difference is relevant.
4. Identify and explain three (3) significant points that show the impact of metadata on the ETL process. Be sure to state where in the ETL process the impact would occur.
5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires use of new Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow SWS or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Section 2: PowerPoint Presentation
In addition to the report, the CIO asks you to create a PowerPoint that can be used to illustrate the concepts from your report to the company’s management team.

Create a ten (10) slide PowerPoint presentation in which you:

6. Illustrate the concepts from your written report in Section 1 of this assignment.
7. Create bulleted speaking notes for the CIO’s reference in the notes section of the PowerPoint. Note: You may create or assume any fictitious names, data, or scenarios that have not been established in this assignment for a realistic flow of communication.
8. Use a professional style to graphically convey the information.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Describe the significance, use, and types of meta-data and meta-modeling.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in data warehousing.
  • Write clearly and concisely about topics related to data warehouse planning using proper writing mechanics and technical style conventions.

Grading for this assignment will be based on answer quality, logic / organization of the paper, and language and writing skills, using the following rubric can be found here.

Prepare a 12–15-slide PowerPoint presentation (with an additional slide as a title slide and additional slides as a reference section) based upon your Research Paper.

PowerPoint Teaching Lesson Instructions

As a criminal justice professional, you have been wanting to teach as a part-time adjunct at a community college. You applied to a local community college, the program director of the criminal justice program has called you for an interview, and it is finally your chance to earn the adjunct teaching position you want so badly. The program director asks you to bring a PowerPoint (with speaker notes) to the interview and be prepared to present a short lesson. As luck would have it, the topic the program director assigns you happens to be a topic you just researched!

Prepare a 12–15-slide PowerPoint presentation (with an additional slide as a title slide and additional slides as a reference section) based upon your Research Paper. Each slide must have 100–150 words of bulleted or paragraph speaker notes. The notes may be associated with your Research Paper. However, the notes must not merely be a 100% cut and paste of your Research Paper. A minimum of 5 scholarly sources and the Holy Bible must be used. These sources may be the same as the sources you used in your Research Paper or new sources expanding upon your research. The sources must be reflected in the speaker notes, slides, and reference section slide(s). The title slide and the reference section slide(s) will not count toward the 12–15-slide requirement. Additionally, you must use animations, transitions, and graphics to reflect graduate level research. Review the grading rubric when forming your presentation.

PLEASE THOROUGHLY FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS
