Discussion and professional assessment

DQ (P) – Discussion Question 1 – (PDQ directed at upcoming PA) Graduate Level

Prior to reading this DQ, please read the PA1 assignment (BELOW) and understand what the assignment is asking you to complete. Once you have an understanding of the PA1 assignment, please continue to the paragraph below to complete DQ1.

Using the Library Information Resource Network (LIRN), JSTOR, or any other electronic journal database, research six (6) peer-reviewed articles that can be used to answer your upcoming PA1 assignment. Your discussion should summarize the articles in such a way that it can justify any arguments you may present in your PA1 assignment and should be different from the abstract. In addition to your researched peer-reviewed article, you must include an example of the article researched as it is applied by industry (company, business entity, and so forth).

Please note: This article summary should not be the only article researched for your PA1 assignment. You may (and should) have several other articles researched to fully answer your PA1 assignment. The concept of this DQ is to allow students to be proactive in the research necessary to complete this assignment. You may use your article summary, partially or in its entirety in your PA1 assignment.

Important: Please ensure that your reference for the article is in correct APA format, as your reference in your discussion post. Depending on which electronic database you use, you should see a “Cite” selection for your article. In addition, there should be a variety of articles summarized and as such, students should have different articles summarized. Your summary MUST include ALL of the following in your DQ post (include every item in the bullet list below, or you will not receive full credit):

Do these in order:

●  In correct APA format, write the Reference of the article.

●  Clearly state what the article is about and its purpose.

●  Describe how you will use it in your upcoming assignment.

●  Repeat for a total of six (6) peer-reviewed sources.

Professional Assignment 1 – CLO 1, CLO 2, CLO 3

Research, develop and write a 3 to 5-page APA formatted paper, which covers a leader (current or historical) who you admire.

Key topics to cover in your paper include an in-depth analysis with in-text citations as references:

●  Introduction

●  Briefly provide the contextual background of the leader (state the leader’s name/title, and so forth; briefly cover his/her background)

●  Describe key reasons why you admire the leader (providing specific examples of actions & behaviors that the leader used with respect to the five practices of exemplary leadership)

●  Evaluate to what extent the leader had credibility, where it stemmed from, and whether there were areas for the leader to improve.

●  Discuss if the leader is as effective in another activity? For example, if the leader was a business person, would their leadership style and methods work as well (or better or worse) if the leader was a politician? Teacher? Head of a non-profit social change organization? Why or why not?

●  Conclusion (With the textbook and at least six [6] peer-reviewed sources)

PSY 4500 WEEK 8

Your Signature Assignment, drawn from your assignments and warm-up activities throughout the course, has three parts. You will submit all three parts compiled into one document for your instructor’s review.

Part 1: History of Psychology Notebook

Part 1 of the Signature Assignment focuses on your analyses of the experiments in the texts.   Of the several experiments that you will read about weekly, you focused on two for each assignment.  You will now compile your analyses of those experiments into your own History of Psychology Notebook.  In addition to the analyses of your articles, add the following to your History of Psychology Notebook:

Briefly answer (two to three paragraphs each):

  • Which of the experiments you studied was most personally meaningful, and why?
  • Which of the experiments that you studied do you think had the most impact on the science of psychology?
  • Which of the experiments that you studied do you think had the most impact for individual mental health or society?

Include a reference list citing the original research studies you analyzed, as well as any other research you referred to in your History of Psychology Notebook.

As this is an electronic notebook, you can enhance it with any pictures, images, graphics, or even audios that you want.

Length 18-20 pages (3 pages already completed in each week’s assignment, and one page for the reflection

Part 2: Timeline of the History of Psychology

Each week, you noted an important psychological experiment along a History of Psychology Timeline, along with at least one social or historical event that took place during that time. Now, based on your readings of the past and current research in psychology, make your own predictions about the future of psychology.  For the years 2020, 2025, and 2030, imagine what you think will be the most important psychological finding of that time. Mark that on the timeline. Then for each of those years, mark a social, cultural, or technological change that you think will form the context for those experiments or discoveries.

Length: One timeline page, beginning with the earliest experiment you analyzed and continuing until the year 2030

Part 3: Careers and Education in Psychology

Review your list of careers and education in psychology. Based on your study of the careers available in each area of psychology, as well as any non-psychology careers you may have identified that are appropriate choices for psychology majors, choose three possible career or academic choices. Explain the following:

• Why do you think this career would be appropriate for you?

• Do you need any additional training or education to qualify?

• What kind of resources or lifestyle changes will be required to meet this goal?

• What steps can you identify now that might help you achieve your goals?

Length: 1 – 1.5 pages

Remember you will submit all three parts in one document. Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to the topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be careful to adhere to Northcentral’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Systemic Racism

Please see below for description of paper to understand the assignment.
Please reference document “Flow of Research Assignment” to see more about the umbrella concept I used, upon which this paper is based. My umbrella concept is Structural and Systemic Racism (using critical race theory). Use this umbrella concept and this document “Flow of Research Assignment” to write this paper with the specifications listed below.
Please reference document “Signature Assignment Rubric” to understand technical aspects of grading for the paper.

1. An introduction that is not labeled as introduction (per APA 7th Edition). In other words, you will begin your opening paragraph without a heading. It is assumed that the first paragraphs of a paper are the introduction. In this section you will orient the reader to the paper, its purpose, and give a brief description of how the paper will progress.

2. Your umbrella concept – titled with a level 1 heading. In this you will define and explain your umbrella topic concept – offering multiple definitions if appropriate and other pertinent information. You will draw from the summaries you created with your partner in your flow of research assignment.

You will support your claim with at least five peer reviewed journal articles, which may include those you explored in your flow of research project.

4. Application to Practice – titled with a level 1 heading. Using third person voice, you will refer to yourself as the author and will discuss the application of the umbrella concept and leadership/change in your professional life. You may present this as events that have or are already taking place, or as justification for changes that need to take place in your organization. The important component here is that you are explaining your understanding through application. You may use an organization that is not associated with your work world, such as non-profit organizations, a place of worship, or unit of government.

socw-6311-WK9A- Drafting a Process Evaluation

The steps for process evaluation outlined by Bliss and Emshoff (2002) may seem very similar to those for conducting other types of evaluation that you have learned about in this course; in fact, it is the purpose and timing of a process evaluation that most distinguish it from other types of evaluation. A process evaluation is conducted during the implementation of the program to evaluate whether the program has been implemented as intended and how the delivery of a program can be improved. A process evaluation can also be useful in supporting an outcome evaluation by helping to determine the reason behind program outcomes.

There are several reasons for conducting process evaluation throughout the implementation of a program. Chief among them is to compare the program that is being delivered to the original program plan, in order to identify gaps and make improvements. Therefore, documentation from the planning stage may prove useful when planning a process evaluation.

For this Assignment, you either build on the work that you completed in Weeks 6, 7, and 8 related to a support group for caregivers, or on your knowledge about a program with which you are familiar. Review the resource “Workbook for Designing a Process Evaluation”.

Submit a 4- to 5-page plan for a process evaluation. Include the following minimal information:

  • A description of the key program elements
  • A description of the strategies that the program uses to produce change
  • A description of the needs of the target population
  • An explanation of why a process evaluation is important for the program
  • A plan for building relationships with the staff and management
  • Broad questions to be answered by the process evaluation
  • Specific questions to be answered by the process evaluation
  • A plan for gathering and analyzing the information

Recognizing Words in Print: Strategies and Activities

hen teaching students to recognize words in print, teachers can use a variety of activities before, during, and after reading to help students understand words, word meanings, and how words go together. Utilizing appropriate strategies that incorporate print concepts will help increase students’ word recognition skills.

Use the “Recognizing Words in Print Template” to complete this assignment.

Part 1: Strategies

Research and summarize, in 250-500 words, a minimum of five strategies for teaching word recognition and print concepts to elementary students with language delays or disabilities. Keep in mind strategies that help students monitor for their own errors. Within your summary, identify the conditions under which the identified strategies are intended to be delivered (e.g., content area, class setting, required resources, if intended for a specific type of disability).

Support your findings with 2-3 scholarly resources.

Part 2: Activities

Identify a small group of 2-3 kindergarten students, using the “Class Profile,” who would benefit from further development of their word recognition or print concepts skills.

Identify a text appropriate to use with the small group identified.

Draft a 250-500 word outline summarizing three activities to reinforce word recognition and print concepts, utilizing the identified text.

Be sure to incorporate at least three of the strategies from Part 1 into your activities.

Part 3: Rationale

In 250-500 words, rationalize your instructional decisions from Part 2. Be sure to explain how the identified strategies and activities enhance the language development of the students in the identified small group. Cite the “Class Profile” where appropriate.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Discussion: Displaying Data

Visual displays of data provide you and anyone else with a graphical display of what is often a complex array of quantitative data. A key strength of visualization is the ability to quickly enlighten you with key data. Rather than solely relying on your audience to interpret numerical values and statistics explained in a narrative, a visual display can easily illustrate descriptions, relationships, and trends. Although the focus is on simplicity, the researcher has an obligation to present these graphical displays in a clear and meaningful way.

For this Discussion, you will explore ways to appropriately display data.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Learning Resources for this week related to frequency distributions and graphic displays of data.
  • Using the SPSS software, open the General Social Survey dataset found in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Next, create a figure or table from a few selected variables within the dataset.
  • Finally, think about what is good about how the data are displayed in the figure or table you created and what is not so good.

By Day 3

Post your display of the table or figure you created and provide an explanation of why this would be the best way to display the data provided, include the General Social Survey Dataset’s mean of Age to verify the dataset you used.

Be sure to support your Main Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

By Day 5

Respond to at least one of your colleagues’ post and determine whether you are able to understand the “whole picture” of the data or understand the data in its entirety. What might you add to their display and why? What might you change to their display and why?

DISCUSSION BOARD CASE STUDY INSOMNIA

Insomnia case – Discussion

For this Discussion, review the case below. Reflect on the case study excerpt and consider the therapy approaches you might take to assess, diagnose, and treat the patient’s health needs.

Case: An elderly widow who just lost her spouse.

Subjective: A patient presents to your primary care office today with chief complaint of insomnia. Patient is 75 YO with PMH of DM, HTN, and MDD. Her husband of 41 years passed away 10 months ago. Since then, she states her depression has gotten worse as well as her sleep habits. The patient has no previous history of depression prior to her husband’s death. She is awake, alert, and oriented x3. Patient normally sees PCP once or twice a year. Patient denies any suicidal ideations. Patient arrived at the office today by private vehicle. Patient currently takes the following medications:

  • Metformin 500mg BID
  • Januvia 100mg daily
  • Losartan 100mg daily
  • HCTZ 25mg daily
  • Sertraline 100mg daily

Current weight: 88 kg

Current height: 64 inches

Temp: 98.6 degrees F

BP: 132/86

By Day 3 (Wednesday) of Week 7:

Post a response to each of the following:

  • List three questions you might ask the patient if she were in your office. Provide a rationale for why you might ask these questions.
  • Identify people in the patient’s life you would need to speak to or get feedback from to further assess the patient’s situation. Include specific questions you might ask these people and why.
  • Explain what, if any, physical exams, and diagnostic tests would be appropriate for the patient and how the results would be used.
  • List a differential diagnosis for the patient. Identify the one that you think is most likely and explain why.
  • List two pharmacologic agents and their dosing that would be appropriate for the patient’s antidepressant therapy based on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. From a mechanism of action perspective, provide a rationale for why you might choose one agent over the other.
  • For the drug therapy you select, identify any contraindications to use or alterations in dosing that may need to be considered based on the client’s ethnicity. Discuss why the contraindication/alteration you identify exists. That is, what would be problematic with the use of this drug in individuals of other ethnicities?
  • Include any “check points” (i.e., follow-up data at Week 4, 8, 12, etc.), and indicate any therapeutic changes that you might make based on the data provided.
  • Explain “lessons learned” from this case study, including how you might apply this case to your own practice when providing care to patients with similar clinical presentations.

Lester Scholl’s administrative assistant calls you on Monday afternoon to set up a conference call between you and the chairman tomorrow morning to discuss the board’s reaction to your list and to discuss your next task

You call the number she gave you, and Lester joins the call shortly after.

“I’m pleased with your work,” he says. The board was impressed with your list of factors. Your ranking made sense because your explanations were well-written. I suspect they read everything you sent because it was concise and clear. Good job.”

“Thanks,” you say, and you feel relieved that your first assignment was well-received.

“Your list provided the basis for a good conversation about the manufacturing operations,” he says. “We want to know more about the economy of both countries to further inform our decision-making process.”

“That makes sense,” you say. “The United States and South Korea hold many distinct economic factors that may affect AutoEdge’s long-term financial performance.”

“Right,” he says. “Your research on the two economies will give the board enough information so we can advise the new, incoming CEO.”

“What should my research include?” you ask.

“In your research, you must take into consideration several macroeconomic factors,” he says. “We want to see information about the gross domestic product (GDP), unemployment, interest rates, and inflation for both the United States and South Korea. Make sure your research is current; that is, no more than 6 months old.”

“I’ll get started right away,” you say.

“Very good,” he says. “Let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll put you in touch with some of the other members of the board if I can’t provide the answers you need.”

“Great,” you say. “Thank you.”

Deliverable Length:  1,000-1,200 words, including research in essay format
