A&P Discussion

Parasympathetic and sympathetic activation are two competing effectors of the autonomic nervous system. Many organs have dual innervation, allowing changes in a split second through chemical messengers. Your task is to discuss how the autonomic nervous system responds to changes in homeostasis and provide a comparison between autonomic and somatic nerves.

You should spend approximately 4 hours on this assignment.

Instructions

  1. You are making your way to your car when suddenly your overly friendly neighbor pops out from behind a bush and yells “Surprise!” Focusing on one organ with dual innervation, prepare a written post with at least 300 words answering the following bullet points:
    1. What physiological events are happening in your chosen organ as you are going about your normal morning routine?
    2. How does being frightened by your neighbor alter the biological processes in your chosen organ? Be sure to include chemical messengers involved in inducing this change in physiological state.
    3. How do the two branches of the autonomic nervous system maintain homeostasis in your chosen organ?
    4. Provide a brief comparison between autonomic and somatic peripheral nerve action.
  2. All references must be cited using APA Style format. Please refer to the CCCOnline APA Citation Toolkit.

All sources must be credible websites

Post Your Introduction and Reflections on Health Equity [WLO: 1] [CLOs: 1, 3]

Prior to beginning work on the second part of this discussion, review these resources:

  1. Introduction, please address these questions in three to four sentences:
  • Introduce yourself to the class by sharing your name, degree program, experience in the health care field, and state or time zone in which you live.
  • What are your goals after you graduate?
  • Share an interesting fact (or two or three!) about yourself.

b. Reflections on Health Equity We know that health status varies, in many cases quite dramatically, between socioeconomic populations. But why? Watch the video, How Racism Impacts Pregnancy Outcomes (Links to an external site.) (California Newsreel, 2008) for an example of how low birth weight affects different populations and some thoughts on why these differences might exist.

For this discussion post, complete the following:

  • State your current understanding of health disparities or health inequalities.
  • Describe what you think would help achieve health equity.

Your initial post must be at least 200 words in length. All citations and references must adhere to APA formatting standards (Links to an external site.).

Guided Response: Respond to at least three of your classmates by completing the following:

  • Introduce yourself to your classmates, describing what you found interesting about their introductions.
  • Provide a substantive response to your classmate’s discussion about health disparities or inequality, stating how you believe their suggestion to achieve health equity would or would not work and what you believe is another option.

Transforming Organizations 4page

Read the Helen Demarco case .  This situation may be new to you, or it may identify an all-too-familiar dilemma that you may have experienced in your personal and/or professional life.  Some might argue that Helen’s actions were reasonable, and that she had no discernible options. Others will argue that she should have considered other courses of action.  Regardless, investigating different perspectives can lead to passionate exchanges about what is right, what is correct, and what is realistically possible in organizations.

The Demarco case offers you an opportunity to examine your personal beliefs and assumptions about the functioning of organizations as well as their leadership.  It can also help you put into perspective your personal theories about organizational change.  As you consider this case from various lenses, respond to the following questions:

  • Do you agree with Helen’s decision to recommend that the group conduct a study?
  • What options did Helen have and which one would you have s selected?
  • Which of the four frames(structural, human resource, political, and symbolic),  do you think apply most closely to the Helen Demarco case?  For instance, is this an example of a structural problem with the company? Or does it reflect more on a problem with human resources? Or is it a problem with the organization’s culture?

The Holocaust was the most tragic event that took place during World War II. Millions of Jewish people were brutally murdered by Hitler’s Nazi regime. Life for the Jews in the ghettos was hard as there was a lot of overcrowding. That’s where they were sent before being shipped to concentration camps, according to Shubert & Goldstein (2012). In the concentration camps, they were starved, put to hard labor against their will or killed in gas chambers. What caused German soldiers and citizens to participate in the killings was the notion that Hitler bestowed in them that they were the superior Aryan race. Therefore the Jews could not live in their spaces. Most ordinary citizens were aware of the killings, and some even participated in shootings of Jews that were not sent to concentration camps or gas chambers (Shubert & Goldstein, 2012). Jewish leaders pleaded with the Western Allies to help their people escape the wrath of Hitler, but they all refused. They were probably afraid of his retaliation on them. Some Jewish people were able to escape the concentration camps, and some tried to resist the German Army, but they were not very successful. Historians are still searching for the “paper trail” of Hitler’s scheme against the Jews. There are not many documents that show his signature. The meeting outside of Berlin in January 1942 was the “start” of this reign of terror were all in attendance (except Hitler) agreed in the way they needed to get rid of the Jews. It is hard to imagine the brainwashing that occurred by Hitler to make the Germans believe what they were doing was right. The inhumanity is beyond comprehension in my eyes.

Chemistry

In this experiment, you will predict the three-dimensional geometry of a series of neutral molecules using the VSEPR theory. PROCEDURE Part 1: The Periodic Table 1. Use the Periodic Table of Elements to determine the elemental symbol, group number, and valence electrons for the elements listed in Table 1 on the Experiment 1 Data Sheet. Record this data in Table 1. 2. Use colored pencils and the data in Table 1 to sketch a Lewis Dot Structure for each element in Table 1 on the Data Sheet. ©2018, eScience Labs Part 2: Construction of Molecules 1. Now, construct the three-dimensional geometry for the molecules listed in Table 2 on the Data Sheet. While you are constructing your molecules, keep the following points in mind: • Nature “loves” symmetry, which means equal bond lengths and angles. • Electrons prefer to be as far apart from each other as possible without disrupting the symmetry too drastically. • Lone pairs take up more space because they are not confined by bonds, and are localized. 2. Look at Table 2 on the Data Sheet, and fill in the bond angles for each molecule you will be building. Hint: Use the column in Table 2 on the Data Sheet labeled “Structure” to determine the molecular geometry. 3. Using colored pencils, make a Lewis Dot Structure sketch for each molecule in Table 2 you will be building. 4. Gather as many marshmallows and toothpicks you will need for building your first molecule (carbon dioxide). Hint: You will need two marshmallows for the oxygen (O), and one marshmallow for the carbon (C). 5. Using the permanent marker, label the miniature marshmallow with the elemental symbol for each atom in your molecule (Figure 19). 6. Refer to the first column in Table 2 to determine the central atom in your molecule. 7. Connect the atoms together with toothpicks. 8. Compare your model with the diagram of the Linear molecular geometry in Table 2. 9. Use your protractor to verify that you have constructed your molecule with the correct bond angles. 10.To determine the angle between your atoms, place the center of the protractor on the central atom, and align the base with a bond (Figure 19). Then measure the angle. When in doubt, think “Should this angle be bigger or smaller than 90°?” 11. If your bond angles are incorrect, remove the toothpicks from the marshmallows, construct the molecule again, and use your protractor to verify that you have constructed your molecule with the correct bond angles. 12.Follow the above procedures for each molecule in Table 2. 13.When you are finished, take a picture of the molecules and send the images to your instructor. Make sure you identify yourself, the name of the lab, and any other necessary identifying information.
