Argument/Research Essay

Argument Assignment (Outline required)

Write an essay in which you make an argument/claim* about something that is debatable. Take a stand on an issue that is important to you and use evidence, research, and argument to convince an audience to accept a position or take an action. Support your claim with specific claims, facts, observations, expert opinion, anecdotes, interviews, etc and utilize the rhetorical appeals/modes of persuasion we have studied so extensively this semester: pathos, ethos, and logos. Your call to action might even consider the appeal to kairos, or the opportune time or place to say or do the right thing. Most certainly, you should consider the counterargument, but you should quickly expose the faulty logic and return focus to your claim. Be sure to establish why this problem is important and needs to be solved. Include research to support your claims from at least 3 reputable source. [*Personal preference or taste is not an argument, as no one can argue that you love diet coke more than diet pepsi, etc.]

Requirements:

___ word count included at end, 1000-1300 words

___proper heading, 1 inch margins, title, page numbers, printed, typed, MLA citation.

___An introduction that grabs the reader’s attention and establishes the topic/claim.

___A thesis statement that is clear, specific, debatable, and lays out the author’s primary points and claims.

___Body paragraphs that stay focused on a single point and effectively argue and provide evidence for a point. Topic sentences begin each major point that make a specific, clear, argumentative claim clearly connected to the thesis

___Evidence that supports each claim that is relevant, credible, well-explained, and logical. (3 reputable sources)

___A conclusion that adequately sums up essay without being repetitive, offers a final suggestion or call to action.

___ Clarity: grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, tense, subject/verb agreement; reflects proofreading

___Content: stance/position clearly stated/explained/explored; Is the argument built logically and defended?

___Complexity: acknowledgement of counterarguments; research analyzed and connected; other perspectives

considered but focus brought back to thesis.

___ Coherence: structure, organization of each paragraph (main idea, example, analyze, link), transitions, connections

between the idea and research analyzed.

_____ MLA Format: An MLA citation at the end of your essay for the source used. Alphabetical if uses more than one.

[Author. “Title of Source.” Title of Container. Other contributors. Version, Number. Publisher, Publication Date.

Location.] Included Research from legitimate sources (library database such as EBSCO, JSTOR)

_____Proper use of in-text citation: quote is either directly introduced with name of article and author, or incorporated

into a sentence that ends with a parenthetical citation with author and page # (Mackman 1).

Week 4 Project – BUS3001

Week 4 ProjectAssignment Task: Submit to complete this assignment Due May 25 at 12:59 AM

Use the same organization as in previous weeks’ projects. Research the ethical challenges regarding employees (i.e., diversity, discrimination, sexual harassment, privacy, employee theft, bad leadership, etc.) that your chosen organization has faced over the past five to ten years and that they should prepare to face in the next five to ten years. Once you have developed a list of challenges, consider how having faced those challenges (or knowing that you will be facing them) will impact and be impacted by the social cause you’ve selected.

Tasks:
Propose your findings on the ethical challenges faced by your organization in recent history and the near future. Be sure to:

  • Analyze ways in which each challenge was (and/or could be) appropriately handled and areas for improvement.
  • Evaluate the ethical/moral aspects of your organization that protected it from ethical challenges in the past and could protect it in the future.
  • Assess how ethical challenges and handling of ethical challenges could positively or negatively impact the charitable cause you’ve selected and how the selection of your social cause could positively or negatively impact the organization and its employees.

Submission Details:

Health Information Exchange (HIE) is a technology that allows the electronic sharing of patients’ clinical and administrative data between healthcare organizations within an area, community, and worldwide between different systems (Sadoughi & Ahmadi, 2018). Health Information Exchange is critical in providing timely access to a complete collection of patient data which can vastly improve coordination of medical care and medical decision-making. This, in turn, allows the delivery of better healthcare outcomes, promotes patient safety with fewer readmissions and emergency room visits, and drives down healthcare costs (Sadoughi & Ahmadi, 2018).

As a Utilization Management Nurse for a managed care company, HIE is essential to ensure that the care provided to our members is necessary and timely. JIVA is a platform that our company uses to achieve this. The Utilization Management features in JIVA offer insights and tools to help guide healthcare service use and effectiveness. Users can determine the necessity and appropriateness of care and examine requests, procedures, and treatments (ZeOmega, 2021).

Interactions with data and technology specialists

Our data and technology specialists are tasked with ensuring that the JIVA system works smoothly daily. They are our point of contact for any issues with the system. They train clinicians when software upgrades are rolled out, and they send out emails to request feedback on opportunities for process improvement.

Strategy to improve interactions

One strategy that our company should employ to improve interactions is to bring in a Nurse Informaticist who will work for hand in hand with our data and technology specialists. Our data and technology specialists are IT professionals. Since they are non-clinical staff, any clinical questions that arise during training must be redirected to the nurse managers. Having a nurse informaticist on board will decrease information hand-off and allow speedy resolution for any clinical staff issues with the JIVA system.

Impact of the continuing evolution of nurse informatics

As health care evolves, professionals must be well equipped to make meaningful contributions through the use of relevant and timely information (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). Over the last five decades, the breadth of nursing informatics practice has expanded to meet healthcare organizations’ needs and keep pace with technological advancements (Nagle, Sermeus, & Junger, 2017). Nursing informatics (NI) embraces the best practices and encourages evidence-based approaches (EBP). As a result, it promotes patient safety, quality, and cost savings. NI facilitates information sharing, which has improved decision-making abilities and beneficial outcomes for healthcare team members (Jouparinejad et al., 2020).

How we do things around here is one way to describe culture. It is challenging to describe a culture when we are part of it. This week we introduced observations, descriptions, and we are seeking to understand the differences in our behaviour using culture as a lens.

Conflict is understood differently when observed in differing cultures. All people have some basic needs and drivers of behaviour. How do we unbundle culture from human needs and apply them to managing conflict successful?

My Goal

To advance our ability to listen, observe, and engage as leaders. We will manage and resolve conflict to come to the best decisions while enhancing our relationships.

Use your unique perspective, coming from China and studying in Canada to understand how culture impacts conflict.

  1. Identify a conflict you have had. Describe the conflict to start your post.
  2. What cultural observations were reflected in your example?
    • What symbols, tone, body language, beliefs, values, etc. do you observe?

Crisis Management

Discussion Question 1 –  CLO 6

This week, in your third interview with your contact person, you will be preparing for the next stage of the Four-Stage Framework.

The activities address the third stage of the Four-Stage Framework described in the textbook: Crisis Management

This area includes:

  1. How should the organization manage its internal stakeholders during a crisis?
  2. How should the organization manage its external stakeholders during a crisis?

This week, you will prepare at least four questions for the company representative (be prepared for more if they have no answer to the four you asked). Be prepared for follow-up questions (secondary and tertiary questions), so as to gain greater insight about how well (or poorly) the organization is prepared for managing its stakeholders. These will encompass how the organization plans on addressing various crises. This is important to know because COVID-19 has affected the world beyond just those who are ill, but has affected every other aspect of our lives.

These may include (though you can use your own) :

  • Who is the focal person of notification when a crisis occurs?
  • How is this person contacted?
  • How is the information disseminated to the rest of the CMT?
  • Who is responsible for the social media response?
  • Does the company have a media person?
  • What other internal stakeholders are involved?
  • What other external stakeholders are involved?

After deciphering the questions, give your account if these things are aligned.
