  • What is capital budgeting and why is it important to business decisions?

According to Investopedia.com, capital budgeting is important because it creates accountability and measurability. Any business that seeks to invest its resources in a project, without understanding the risks and returns involved, would be held as irresponsible by its owners or shareholders. Furthermore, if a business has no way of measuring the effectiveness of its investment decisions, chances are that the business will have little chance of surviving in the competitive marketplace. Businesses (aside from non-profits) exist to earn profits. The capital budgeting process is a measurable way for businesses to determine the long-term economic and financial profitability of any investment project.

Discuss how the information should be organized in a capital budgeting process, and who will use the information for decision-making.

The unique challenges encountered when budgeting for capital assets can be summarized as follows:

  • The eventual outcome is uncertain.
  • Large amounts of money are involved.
  • The investment decision represents a long-term commitment.
  • The investment decision may be difficult or impossible to reverse.
  • The capital budgeting process involves calculating one or more of what are called “capital budgeting metrics” and evaluating those metrics alongside the organization’s corresponding financial goals.
  • What could go wrong with the capital budgeting process?

According to Merritt, cash flow can be a major issue. Even up-front costs, which are more immediate and therefore easier to forecast, are still only estimates at this stage. Overestimate revenue or underestimate costs, and a project that looks profitable could become a money-loser. Underestimate revenue or overestimate costs, and you might end up rejecting a project that would have proved profitable.

  • Provide an example of a capital budgeting process from an online source and explain the salient points of this example to the class.

In December 2009 ExxonMobil, the world’s largest oil company, announced that it was acquiring XTO Resources, one of the largest natural gas companies in the U.S. for $41 billion. That acquisition was a capital budgeting decision, one in which ExxonMobil made a huge financial commitment. But in addition, ExxonMobil was making a significant investment decision in natural gas and essentially positioning the company to also focus on growth opportunities in the natural gas arena. That acquisition alone will have a profound effect on future projects that ExxonMobil considers and evaluates for many years to come (Investopedia.com).

Journal Writing

Name of different places are indicated with alphabets.

Last week was incredibly cold in many places including A. I waited for updates on loss of power from my niece who lives in rural B, heard from friends relocating due to the storm in C, and was amazed to see the snow stick around in A. My sister lives in D and sent pictures of children sledding down a hill in a city park. I was grateful to have a lot of firewood on hand to keep warm by the wood stove and I started thinking a lot about warmth. I’m from coastal E where the weather is pretty consistently warm with a light ocean breeze. In June we get a month or so of heavy marine fog that we call “June Gloom.” Once the fog finally burns off summer fully arrives. Then every day is at least 80 degrees, and the beaches are packed until October. I feel lucky to be from a warm place and have many fond memories of days at the beach or hikes to the river.

Many of places somewhere else in world are very familiar with extreme heat and humidity. So, we all have many memories of being warm. For this journal, write about a time you were filled with warmth that was not necessarily due to the weather. Write about a time you felt warm emotionally, mentally, spiritually, etc. and describe those events and feelings. Use as many sensory details (sound, smell, taste, feel, sight, color) and concrete examples as you can.

Try to get to at least 500 words.

Topic Proposal: Housing for the Homeless People

My Topic is:

Housing for the Homeless People

It is important because

  • Provide affordable needed shelter
  • Provide meals
  • Connect to outside resources
  • Daily access to hygiene products
  • Transition into employment

It solves the following problem(s)

  • Prevent and end Homelessness
  • Prevent crime
  • Provide mental stability
  • Develop training for employment
  • Affordable housing

Its benefit(s) is (are)

  • Keep families together
  • Security
  • Stability
  • Employment and skills development
  • Medical assistance

My audience is:

The community leaders, state and federal government, state department of corrections, and local businesses, individuals seeking a stable and affordable housing to live in.

Proposal Pitch for Housing for the Homeless

Homelessness is an ongoing problem in our country; approximately there were 580,466 homeless people are living in the United States and increasing daily. An individual is considered homeless if they stay in their cars, shelters, abandoned buildings, on the streets, or with family or friends. Homelessness can be caused by unemployment, mental illness, disabilities, foreclosure, housing, low-paying jobs, and criminal history. As a country, enough is not being done to end  Homelessness, but Homelessness seems to increase due to unaffordable housing. Homeless people need health care, shelter, clothes, and food but must be treated as human beings.

There are several circumstances in which an individual or family may become homeless. A portion of Homelessness is caused by individuals with physical and mental disabilities. (CCBC Library) Due to the lack of health insurance, the homeless may suffer from malnutrition, disease and illness, exposure to crime, and weather conditions can contribute to poor health for the homeless. States have refused to expand their medical program, which leaves the low-income and homeless uninsured. Substance abuse also contributes to Homelessness; the lack of affordable housing and no remaining space in shelters forces individuals to live on the streets. Some areas do not allow the homeless to sleep, eat, beg, or sit. They have put armrests in the middle of benches and made some benches backless to prevent the homeless from sleeping on them. Over 57,000 homeless veterans and nearly 5000 are females, and sixty percent of them were in shelters and the rest unsheltered. Almost five years of leaving the military, forty-four percent have experienced at least one day of Homelessness.

My goal is to contribute to the cause of preventing Homelessness within our country. Since most urban areas have the highest rate of Homelessness, there is a need for more facilities to house the homeless.

My communication plan will consist of emailing organizations in the community. They can help me aid in setting up programs to help individuals get back on their feet to fully support themselves or family financially. Assist with clothing, teach skills to gain employment, and medical assistance. Research a suitable location and building to house the homeless, assist with transportation and provide meals daily. Writing a proposal for grants to help finance my facilities, communicate verbally with individuals I can trust to develop a committee to oversee the facilities, and hire employees. I would organize a meeting with the community to gain their support and volunteers to assist the individuals living at the facilities.

Finally, using my notes, I would craft a presentation for businesses trying to convince and persuade them to participate and help finance my idea of opening facilities for the homeless. I would then revise and rehearse the presentation to understand it holistically and expound and clarify any point with compelling information. In this way, I would be confident enough to present the exhibition before the community leader and business owner. I would be better positioned to counter any debate or criticism they could make.

Promoting Evidence-Based Practice

In recent years, the implementation of evidence-based practice has been identified as a priority across nearly every nursing specialty (Prevost & Ford, 2020). In addition, nurses are increasingly accepted as essential members and often as leaders, of the interdisciplinary health-care teams. To effectively participate and lead a health-care team, nurses must have knowledge of the most effective and reliable evidence-based approaches to care, increase their expertise in critiquing research, and apply the evidence of their findings to select optimal interventions for their patients (Prevost & Ford, 2020).

Instructions:

  1. Read the infomation above, and then answer the following questions:
    1. Identify at least five (5) things you might do to increase your knowledge and use of evidence in your practice? (explain each suggestion and how it fits in the practice)
    2. What are the most significant and driving and restraining forces to make this change?
    3. Would you expect covert or overt resistance to your efforts?
    4. Will you need to enlist support from others or acquire additional resources for this planned change to occur? (be specific as in administrative support or scientific journals, etc)
  2. Your paper should be:
    • One (1) page
    • Typed according to APA style for margins, formatting and spacing standards
    • Typed into a Microsoft Word document, save the file, and then upload the file

Time Travel

Assume you have been given the ability to travel back in time, and you are about to set off on a trip to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The purpose of your trip is to visit artists in their studios and view firsthand the creation of some of their paintings and sculpture.

In your time travels, you will collect information on five different styles of nineteenth- and twentieth-century art, as represented by one artist from each style. Before you set out, decide which specific styles you would like to explore.

Select one style from each of the five categories listed below:

  • Late Nineteenth Century: Impressionism or Post Impressionism
  • Early Twentieth Century: Fauvism, Expressionism, or Futurism
  • Cubism: Analytic or Synthetic
  • Post-World War I Art: Dada or Surrealism
  • Post-World War II Art: Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, or Pop Art

For each of your five selected styles, identify one artist who represents that style whose studio you will explore in your time travels. In your visits to each artist’s studio, plan to identify one work of art that best exemplifies the artist’s style.

When you return from your time travels, prepare a report that includes the following information for each of your five representative works of art:

  1. A photograph of the object
  2. Identifying information:
    1. Name of the artist
    2. Title of the work
    3. Date of the work
    4. Medium/materials used to create the work
  3. Identify the style of the work of art. Then, write a paragraph of 4-6 sentences that:
    1. Describes the visual characteristics that makes the object representative of its style
    2. Places the work within its social and historical context and explains why it is culturally significant

Finally, in a well-developed paragraph of 6-8 sentences, summarize what you have learned from your “time travels,” highlighting key similarities and distinctions between the artists you visited and their representative works of art.

Your report should conclude with an explanation about which style you find most interesting and why.

Offer a citation of your sources for each image and the information provided as appropriate

Assignment: Case Study Analysis–Neo-Psychoanalytic and Behavioral Personality Theories

The Module Assessment in Week 8 is a personality theory case study analysis that will be developed during Weeks 2 – 8. The Module Assessment is based on a case study found in your Learning Resources, “The Case of Mrs. C.”

This week you examined personality theories from the neo-psychoanalytic and behavioral  theoretical orientations. Supported by the information you gathered in your Personality Theory Matrix, analyze the case of Mrs. C based on one theory from the neo-psychoanalytic orientation and one theory from the behavioral orientation examined this week. The case study analysis considers Mrs. C’s symptoms (including cultural considerations) and offers relevant assessments and interventions for her case. Additionally, it must be supported by scholarly materials from research of reputable sources.

To Prepare

  • Review the Learning Resource, “The Case of Mrs. C.”
  • Review the Personality Theory Matrix information about the neo-psychoanalytic and behavioral theoretical orientations and their corresponding related theories.

Assignment (2 pages – 1 page per theory)

Based on the information you gain from the personality case study, “The Case of Mrs. C,” complete the following case study analyses:

Neo-Psychoanalytic Theory Case Study Analysis:

  • Analyze Mrs. C’s symptoms, including cultural considerations, from the perspective of a key idea from a theorist that you identified from the neo-psychoanalytic theoretical orientation.
  • Offer suggestions for assessments and interventions to use with Mrs. C from the perspective of a key idea from a theorist that you identified from the neo-psychoanalytic theoretical orientation.

Trait Theory Case Study Analysis:

  • Analyze Mrs. C’s symptoms, including cultural considerations, from the perspective of a key idea from a theorist that you identified from the behavioral theoretical orientation.
  • Offer suggestions for assessments and interventions to use with Mrs. C from the perspective of a key idea from a theorist that you identified from the behavioral theoretical orientation.

Integrate Resources and scholarly materials in your analyses and provide citations and references in APA format. References should be combined in one list at the end of the document.

Assignment 2: Application: Process Recordings

A process recording is a written tool field education experience students, field instructors, and faculty use to examine the dynamics of social work interactions in time. Process recordings can help in developing and refining interviewing and intervention skills. By conceptualizing and organizing ongoing activities with social work clients, you are able to clarify the purpose of interviews and interventions, identify personal and professional strengths and weaknesses, and improve self-awareness. The process recording is also a useful tool in exploring the interpersonal dynamics and values operating between you and the client system through an analysis of filtering the process used in recording a session.

For this Assignment, you will submit a process recording of your field education experiences specific to this week.

The Assignment (2–4 pages):

  • Provide a transcript of what happened during your field education experience, including a dialogue of interaction with a client.
  • Explain your interpretation of what occurred in the dialogue, including social work practice or theories, and explain how it might relate to intervention covered this week.
  • Describe your reactions and/or any issues related to your interaction with a client during your field education experience.
  • Explain how you applied social work practice skills when performing the activities during your process recording.

ECE405 Children & Families in a Diverse Society

ulturally Relevant and Anti-Bias Early Learning Environments.

Early childhood education professionals may undertake significant efforts to design and provide culturally relevant and anti-bias environments, but still fall short in fostering environments in which children are fully inclusive of others and free of prejudice. Educators and early childhood leaders need to understand and be respectful in creating and maintaining culturally relevant and anti-bias early learning environments.

Imagine you are an early childhood educator or an early childhood administrator who has received the four surveys below from families. After you read through the surveys, select one family that you want to use for this discussion.

Write a transcript responding to common questions that a family such as you selected would tend to bring up at a parent-teacher conference, based on the survey data and your experience as an educator or an administrator.

Examples are shown below. Provide five questions, which may be selected from the list below, derived from your experience, or a combination of both. Each response should include a fact from the survey.

  • What resources are available to help my child learn language?
  • What support and resources can you share to help support obstacles children might be facing?
  • How can I support my child’s learning in the classroom?
  • How can I help support my child at home?
  • How will you be sure to include all children in the learning despite their differences?
  • What role do families play in the early childhood environment?
  • What are some of the activities that you will use to help children learn respect?
  • How do you deal with bias in the classroom?
  • Do you have any suggestions that could help families with education, literacy, or mentoring?
  • Can you suggest online resources for family learning?

I need four discussion questions answered. 250 words min APA with references

Hello

The one technique that I would find difficult, would be answering questions with confidence. To be more exact is to “artfully dodge” questions. I tend to answer questions head-on. I have not learned how to be tactful in certain situations. I tend to think that I do not want to mince words. I want all to have a clear understanding. But sometimes a little more flowering or tactfulness is needed to make alliances.

Professor/Class,

Looking over the different techniques for getting ideas approved, I think my personal hardest falls inside of the concept of keeping things simple. I consider myself to be someone who is very transparent and sometimes that leads to broadcasting more information than people maybe need to know or maybe information they actually care about. My goal is to build confidence in my audience by providing full spectrum scope over topics  but I can see how it could be a hindrance when it comes to pitching an idea. I think the most beneficial tactic to overcome this potential shortfall is to use feedback from the people I work with. Luckily I have peers whose perspective I value so I believe this is a very manageable barrier.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

3. Edel

Good Morning Professor and Class,

The technique that would be most difficult for me as I work towards a problem solution implementation within my organization would be positioning my message for the audience. In my line of work there are a lot of different thoughts and opinions on everything that is done in the construction industry so it can be difficult to position one message for the audience without it being overwhelming for other or losing track of what the main message is. When positioning for an audience, this means tailoring a specific message and plan for the audience that is in front of you and showing how these ideas can benefit them and showing them how they can build their legacy around your idea (Gallo, 2010). If one can do this, it will help to create a positive mindset which will help them to accept your idea or proposal (Gallo, 2010). As stated earlier, in the construction industry, getting everyone to agree on one thing can be difficult. I had to gather over 180 local subcontracting companies and get them all to agree on how a contract should be written, word for word, so that it would make contracting fair, for all subcontractors in the state of Arizona to bring this to the Senate and have a bill passed. This required gathering stories from everyone on what their struggles were, how they were treated by sone of the bigger general contractors and finally instead of arguing, they saw that they shared a lot of commonalities in all of this and that if we could work together and be one voice, we could make a real difference. This was a technique that was time consuming, but successful, and it put us all in one position for our audience who just happened to be the Senate in the state of Arizona. SB 1271 passed, and this was a huge success for the construction industry in Arizona.

4. Dan

I know, this is not directly related to week 8 learning topics, but, what are your recommendations in regard to dealing with people who are not patient?

5. James

Based upon my experience with completing the action research project my strongest thing is I would tell people is do your research. My suggestions I give to others about implementing an action research process in order to address an organizational problem is to understand the problem they are addressing. Afterwards, be clear and have the correct information and up to date information. Old data or incorrect data can have an negative effect on your proposal. Also, tap in to the brains of others and see their thoughts on the matter. How does your idea benefit them? They may stand to gain prestige, cost savings, or an opportunity to build their legacy around your idea (Gallo, 2010).

6. Paul

After completing the business proposal, I have learned a lot about the action research process. Many effective techniques can help us in optimally implementing this research project. Firstly, I would emphasize selecting a topic that should be precise, easy to understand, and summarized, which will help in giving us a direction in which we should move further and put our energies. To implement action research, I have found field notes most effective. It allows us to have an overview of the market, which helps find the most appropriate solution that fixes the main problem and the underlying issues (Mertler, 2009). In implementing the solution, both qualitative and quantitative data provide extensive and enormous information that gives a direction to the project.

If the team successfully identifies the root causes of the problem, it becomes easier to find and implement the solution (Mobley, n.d.). In final solution prioritization, it is necessary to keep in mind that significant problems hinder the organizational process and objective and other minor issues that can harm the organization in the future. Presenting the proposal summary and financial fund requirement from the executives also nails the implementation of the proposed project. If compared with given conditions, archival data and existing reports also help identify whether the information we have collected is sufficient or if we need to explore further. Cost-benefit analysis is fundamental in finding a solution to the problem; it also helps us identifying our strategy either we are going in the right direction or not. The effective system helps us achieve our goal within budget and defined time and ensures more market share (By the Mind Tools Content Team, n.d.).
