In short, girls keen to turn into mail order brides do not seem to have a unique agenda than other mate-looking for women; they simply have discovered a novel method to broaden their pool of prospective husbands. In our first examine, we additionally surveyed a group of Colombian girls who were attempting to turn into mail order brides, and we compared them with a group of Colombian ladies who weren’t pursuing a husband in this method. In addition to asking about their preferences for a husband, we additionally asked them what they thought males have been looking for in a spouse. The responses of the two teams to open-ended questions about mating were rather more related than totally different and the items relevant to what they wanted in a prospective husband were those that confirmed the least difference.

Like most Americans, the Jamestown brides got here in search of a greater life. It may seem stunning that an establishment as derided and ridiculed as mail-order marriage may serve this role, but for the Jamestown brides, and the many ladies who came after them, marital immigration might be both empowering and liberating. Yet her coquettish demeanor turned severe and reserved as quickly as she switched to her native Visayan to speak about a new boyfriend she met just lately. In addition to raising his kids Dan anticipated Leonor to run the middle daily, coordinate with helpers and gardeners who did not converse English properly, and do a lot of the cooking herself. Like the worst stereotype of overseas males who come to the Philippines, Dan treated native women as equipment to the lives they envisioned for themselves.

Mail order brides had been well-liked in the Old West within the United States. Hans’s expertise was far from unusual — in reality, the shift between online and offline power is likely one of the major dynamics at play in fashionable dating amongst foreigners and Filipinas. Before a person involves the Philippines, the lady has the advantage, because only a fraction of Filipina ladies have the technological capability and English data to fulfill men on-line.

The time period “mail-order bride” is both criticized by owners of international marriage companies and used by them as an simply recognizable time period. Little issues that most of us would by no means consider amazed her, like how clear the streets have been relative to her home city of Nikolaev. Here they take away the rubbish every week, she tells me, while in Nikolaev, the rubbish collectors got here around every two months or so, so the trash would pile up on streets, flooding the sidewalks when there was any rain or snow. She gave it another chance and saw the person who would become her husband. When she saw him, she knew right away that this was the person she wanted. She walked over, mentioned hi and shortly needed to pull a translator over so they may speak.

“A” WORK DISCUSSION IN 10 HOURS or LESS

Do you agree with the following statement? “Efficiency cannot be achieved when externalities exist.” Explain your view.

ANSWER AND THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 200 WORDS EACH POST)

                                             CLASSMATE’S POST

My perspective is that when market flaws exist, the efficiency when there are significant externalities creating market failures. I suppose when negative externalities are present, it means that the producer does not bear all costs resulting in excess production. While with positive externalities the buyer does not get all the benefits of the good resulting in decreased production. For instance, of a negative externality is a factory that produces widgets but pollutes the environment in the process. The cost of the pollution isn’t borne by the factory however shared by society. If the negative externality is taken under consideration, then the cost of the widget would be higher. This would result in decreased production and more efficient equilibrium. In this case, the market failure would be an excessive amount of production and a price that didn’t match the truth cost of production as well as high levels of pollution.

In conclusion, externalities lead to market failure because the price equilibrium does not accurately reflect the true costs and benefits of a product. Equilibrium is meant to ensue in the optimal level of production as it finds the ideal balance between buyers’ benefit and producers’ cost.

DISCUSSION: A CRITICAL LOOK AT THE QUESTION OF CLASS.

The course text describes the impact of socioeconomic status on parenting style and the socialization of children. Berns defines four levels of “class” and describes characteristics of each. Yet, further reading implies that the concept—and reality—of social class may be more complex than the author’s presentation.

Your role as a student is not only to read for information, but also to read critically as well. Review the “Class Descriptions” and “Effects of Class” sections of the course text (pages 107-109), paying close attention to the values and behaviors ascribed to each class and especially the “lower class” and the “underclass.”

Then, review the “Class Matters: Shadowy Lines That Still Divide” article, which discusses modern views of social class in the United States.

Next, consider the following:

  • What you know about class in America today
  • Your experiences related to class
  • The differences between the presentation of class in America today in the New York Times article and the description of class in the course text
  • Your thoughts about those differences
  • How children may be affected by class and by people’s attitudes and beliefs related to class
  • How the information presented in your text might have a negative affect on teachers’ perceptions of children and their families

Based on the readings and your own experiences, post your thoughts in regard to:

  • Your views on differences between social classes that have the most influence on outcomes for children
  • In your future work with young children and families, how you will avoid allowing stereotypes, assumptions, and labels that can create negative and/or limited perceptions of children and families from influencing you

Database Management Essay (Due 11 Dec) (APA) (4-Pages) (4 Included References)

Requirements

1) APA 6th Ed format

2 ) Due 11 Dec

3) 4-5 Pages (not including title page and references)

4) 4 References

5) Plagiarism-Free

Background/References:

The new state of having rather too much data to fit into the established databases is increasingly called “big data.” Big data arises from a combination of cheap storage, multiple data input streams, and a general sense that with all of this, there ought to be valuable data in there somewhere. Here are a couple of sources that begin to discuss these issues; you can undoubtedly find more:

Challenges and Opportunities with Big Data (2013).

Kaisler, S., Armour, F., Espinosa, J.A., and Money, W. (2013). Big data: Issues and challenge moving forward. 46th Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences, 1-10.

The trick to coping with “big data” is, of course, better data analytics — that is, that set of statistical mining, and related analytical tools that can be used to identify patterns in the data, assess a variety of associations, and generally illuminate the knowledge that might otherwise be buried in the mounds of numbers. Today, analytics is a rapidly expanding field.

Assignment:

When you’ve had a chance to read these articles, anything from the Background that is helpful to you, or anything else you may have come across, please write a 4- to 5-page paper discussing the question:

Problems and Opportunities created by having too much data, and what to do about them

Take a definite stand on the issues, and develop your supporting argument carefully. Using material from the background information and any other sources you can find to support specific points in your argument is highly recommended; avoid making assertions for which you can find no support other than your own opinion.

Your paper is to be structured as a point/counterpoint argument, in the following manner.

  • Begin this paper by stating your position on this question clearly and concisely
  • Citing appropriate sources, present the reasons why you take this position. Be sure to make the most effective case you can.
  • Then present the best evidence you can, again cite appropriate sources, against your position — that is, establish what counterarguments can be made to your original position.
  • Finally, review your original position in light of the counterarguments, showing how they are inadequate to rebut your original statement.

By the end of your paper, you should be able to unequivocally re-affirm your original position.
