The board of directors is a group of elected individuals whose sole responsibility is to act in the owners’ best interests by formally monitoring and controlling the firm’s top- level managers. Board’s are generally responsible for long term success of the organizations. However, the extent and manner of engagement in strategy currently vary widely from board to board. At the same time, corporate strategy is also becoming more important hence the need for board’s to be more involved in the selection of strategies.

Board of directors tend to focus on the long term while management tends to focus on short term plans which is understandable. Board’s increased involvement will complement the management. For organizations to remain relevant over time, it must also pay attention to the future. Since directors sit outside day-to-day operations, they are in an ideal position to counterbalance management’s tendencies and focus on the long run, enabling organization to act strategically on multiple timescales.

The evidence I would offer to support their position is based on Chief Executives for Corporate Purposes (CECP). According to CECP, CEOs acknowledge their tendencies of focusing more on the short-term plans than long term plans. For an organization to remain vital in the market it needs to concentrate on both short and long term hence the need for board’s increased involvement

EDPT 522 CH 3 assignment Answer 2 question

Cloze procedures have several uses: (a) to determine the readability of a passage, (b) to test a student’s reading ability for placement, and (c) to teach comprehension strategies or review content knowledge. Our primary purpose here is to understand how the cloze test can be used to determine the readability of a text or an estimate of how competently a student can read a given text. One of the assessments mentioned in chapter 3 is the use of a cloze passage. After reading chapter three, you would have learned what a cloze passage is as one of the assessment tools  and the components of a cloze test.

Question 1. Practice filling in the cloze passage with appropriate words. What insight   can you deduce from   doing this exercise as a teacher?

CLOZE PASSAGE

There is really nothing mysterious about groundwater. We just can’t see 1_____like we can see a pond, a stream, or the 2______. This water collects below 3___ earth’s surface in aquifers, 4____between soil and rock particles.  It is also found in cracks  and crevices and inside 5_____ rocks.

The top surface 6___groundwater is called the 7____table. When the water 8____ is high enough, 9______comes to the surface naturally in 10____, lakes, ponds and rivers, and it can 11____ be brought to the surface by 12____ wells. But the top level 13____the groundwater (the water table) is usually 14______. Groundwater is a vital15______ of the water cycle and 16____ replenished by rainfall. The 17____of   groundwater in different 18____ of the world vary, and the amount at any one place can change due to 19_____ drought, heavy withdrawal for human use, or other factors. Groundwater quality is generally 20_____than that of surface 21____ because it is not as readily 22____to pollution sources. Also, the 23_____of groundwater through various 24_____ of soil and rock filters out 25_____ impurities. However, some groundwater can be polluted by pesticides, chemicals, landfill leachate, and other materials that seep into groundwater supplies.

Summative Assessment #2

Write a 300-word essay in which you analyze the character development of one of the characters from a text that we have read this week using at least one literary device. You may NOT use a class example such as Rose’s name as symbolism word for word. DO NOT use more than 50 words from the text.  Using this hooK:

[Hook] A famous quote or visual description of what you want to write about. [Context] tell the reader what you will analyze(the name of the text and the character that you will analyze) and what literary device is being used and how it works. Several important moments changed ______.  ______ first began to change when __________________. This made him/her _________________. Then, ______________________(2nd moment).  A piece of text that supports this is in ______. This caused him/her to _______________________________________. He/She began to change even more when _______________________(3rd moment) because _______________________________(reason).  An example of this in the text is in  ______. These things started to change him/her so much that when _________________happened, he/she ____________________.By the end of the play, he/she was not _______________like he/she was at the beginning. Instead, he/she was _________________.

This assessment is designed to evaluate your proficiency in the following standards: CCSS: W.11-12.4 – Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. (6 point value) CCSS: RL.11-12.3. Analyze the impact of the author’s choices regarding how to develop and relate elements of the story or drama (for example, where the story is set, how the action is ordered, and how the characters are introduced and developed). (6 point value) CCSS: RI.11-12.1 – Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain.  You will produce clear and coherent writing that is well organized and edited. After reading and watching excerpts from “Fences”

Cite by the act when appropriate. For example “In act I, Sc ii when Troy tells Cory that …” This means whenever you are paraphrasing or referring back to the text.

Teamwork, Motivation, and Communication

Assignment Content

  1. Imagine your team has been given the task of consulting with a local health care facility that has been experiencing some issues with its staff. Leadership of the facility has noted the main issues being communication, motivation, and teamwork, and has asked you to provide some strategies to improve these areas.

Note: Second-level bullets (considerations) are meant to guide the students in creating their responses; the expectation is not that the response would specifically address each component.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word proposal in which you:

    • Explain strategies that can be used to create efficient and effective teams.
    • What are the essential elements of effective teams?
    • How are teams used in other industries, such as aviation, auto racing, and the military?
    • What best practices from other industries could be applied in the health care industry?
    •  Explain strategies that can be used to manage conflict within teams.
    •  Explain strategies that can be used to communicate effectively in a health care organization.
    • Why does an organizational model matter when considering communication?
    • How should an organization communicate with or involve employees in formulating solutions to problems?
    • What communication techniques are most effective for sharing information and ideas?
    • What communication techniques have proven to be ineffective?
    • How might technology also affect the communication process?
    • Describe methods management can use to motivate employees. Consider what theoretical concepts support this.
    • Explain why you believe these choices would be effective.

Cite 3 references, one of which may be the course textbook.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

Module 4: Historical Research Paper Rough Draft

In this module, you will take the research that you have collected from your sources, your bibliography, and your draft thesis statement and outline and create a 5 – 7 page (1250 – 1750 word) rough draft of your research paper.

Instructions

The purpose of this assignment is to help you organize your argument and the evidence you have to support it, and to receive feedback that you can use to create a polished final draft at the end of the course. **Remember that this must be argumentative.  You cannot simply list facts about this topic, but instead must take a position on an issue and prove this position.**

A draft is just that, a rough sketch of what you want to say in your final essay. It is an opportunity to receive feedback from your instructor on your work, but it is also an opportunity for you to get your thoughts down on paper, move away from them, come back with fresh eyes and revise. A draft need not be polished or perfect – it should be rough and that’s okay. The biggest mistake you can make with a draft is getting stuck with writer’s block because you think the draft isn’t good enough. Drafts aren’t supposed to be perfect – they are supposed to help you think about your work, and let others give you some ideas on how to improve.

  • Your final historical research paper should include an introduction with a clear thesis statement, at least five paragraphs (probably more) that address topics that support your claims, and a strong conclusion that summarizes your argument. Attach your final bibliography (not annotated) at the end and include a cover page (in all formats) with your name, date, and the title of the paper. The title should be more than the topic, and should give the reader a sense of what the paper is about. Some examples:
    • Paul Revere: Statesman and Craftsman
    • The Salem Witch Trials: Fear and Superstition on the Frontier
    • The Frontier: A Meeting of Cultures and Ambitions
  • Make sure each paragraph contains at least one quote or other supporting evidence from your research, and that you use all your sources – primary and secondary (including the scholarly journal article). Primary sources do provide the best evidence, and a variety of sources provide event better evidence than a reliance on one or two sources. Always extrapolate quotations. Follow quotes with your own analysis or comments and explain how that evidence supports your argument.
  • Quotations should be no more than two – three lines long. People tend to skip over longer quotes. All quotes must be cited as appropriate for the format you have selected – in-text citations for APA and MLA, or Notes for Chicago Style. Remember quotations also require a page number if available in all the formats. Even though quotations are important as support, the majority of your paper (roughly 85%) should by your own words of analysis.
  • You may use illustrations or photographs as sources, but these should not be included in the body of the paper. If you decide that you must include these images, they should be attached as appendices and those pages do not count toward your page length or word count.
  • The body of your paper should be 5 – 7 pages in length, double spaced, not including the cover page, or the bibliography. This is roughly 1250 – 1750 words. Your rough draft is expected to be as complete as possible as this will also be submitted for peer review, but receiving some feedback is better than none – so make sure you submit what you have completed by the due date noted on the Course Schedule. This should be one document in .docx or .rtf format (no PDFs!).

One final reminder – Drafts need not be perfect, as you will edit and revise it. It is better to turn something in for feedback, than to turn nothing in and have no information on how to improve the paper late.

Understanding Human Communication

You will need to view one of the pre-approved motion pictures listed below. After viewing the movie, you are to write a 2-3 page paper critiquing the movie based on what you’ve learned about perception in Chapter 3. This analysis paper is not a plot summary of the movie, nor a discussion of your opinions about the movie.

Your goal should be an academic evaluation of the movie in which you make connections to concepts and theories discussed in Chapter 3. Your paper should include the following:

  • 2-3 full pages (double-spaced) with an introduction, body, and conclusion
  • Follow MLA formatting
  • Discuss (3) concepts or principles, define them clearly, and apply them to the movie. For each concept, there should be a full paragraph defining and explaining what that concept means; then make a connection to the movie in the next paragraph.
  • Be sure to cite your sources and include a works cited page using MLA formatting.
  • Font should be 12 pt Times New Roman or Calibri

Leveraging Your Home Team Advantage

In reviewing your team’s performance, you have concluded there are productivity issues. You have made the decision to discontinue the working remote policy. This is a significant change since nearly 40% of your team works remotely at least once a week.

  • How would you communicate to employees the reasons why the change is being implemented?
  • What actions would you empower employees to take to support the change initiative?
  • Identify 2 short-term wins that will energize the team.

In your response, you are encouraged to cite sources beyond Kotter, such as Conaty, McCord, Bock, and include a clear “What’s In It For Me (WIFFM)?” statement.

Post your initial response by Wednesday, midnight of your time zone, and reply to at least 2 of your classmates’ initial posts by Sunday, midnight of your time zone.

 RE: Week 4 DiscussionCOLLAPSE

Professor and everyone,

I would communicate by letter, word of mouth, and formal meeting to inform the employees about the new changes has taken place in the company. The actions that I would possible take would be to gain all the information about the change. I would plan a meeting to inform the employees about the change. Next I would make sure that everyone is ready to adapt to the new change by preparing themselves to try working without using the remote policy and see the significant changes that may occur. I would have a change vision and a change effort in order that my business would be able to function and do not have any major issues.

2nd response

Salutation Professor and Class,

In reviewing your team’s performance, you have concluded there are productivity issues. You have made the decision to discontinue the working remote policy. This is a significant change since nearly 40% of your team works remotely at least once a week.

  • How would you communicate to employees the reasons why the change is being implemented?

Assuming I was in the position where change needs to happen rapidly, I would ask myself how I would want to address the crisis without getting upset. If I were in the position of a team leader and had to deliver the news of a new policy, I would make sure I communicate the issue of productivity, explain why it is critical for the change to occur, after the change has been addressed, ensure that everyone comprehends (1). I would articulate how my team feels included with the correct information to back it up. Concise and precise is how I would deliver the message (2) – “Hello team, I hope everyone is enjoying this weather. There is something that needs to be addressed; there has been a decline in our performance, causing a delay in our productivity. To improve production, we must monitor everyone’s performance in proximity, so we must discontinue remote policy and implementing the return to office in the next two weeks. Once we have returned to the office, we will ensure that everyone is monitored and supported to their needs. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to connect with me after the meeting.”

  • What actions would you empower employees to take to support the change initiative?

I would reach out to the employees whose performance has been declining and be transparent with them about their part within the organization. I would make certain to them that we are here to support them in any challenge they face to increase their performance, treating them with dignity (2). I would encourage them to be open, candid, and willing to initiate the change.

  • Identify 2 short-term wins that will energize the team.

2 short term wins I would motivate in my team would be reward change agents with a pat on the back – some people need a from of extrinsic motivation, which is driven by external rewards such as praise or fame (3). Second short-term win, keep bosses on board – it helps keeps superior aware that you are willing team player and that the change is happening.

Week 5 Course Project: Parts 5 & 6 – Rehearsal

Required Resources
Read/review the following resources for this activity:

Introduction: Communication Change Challenge (CCC) Part 5 & 6
In Part 5, you will imagine implementing the new behaviors you identified in 4E. In Part 6, you will practice your new behavior by role-playing with a family member or close friend who is not directly involved in your goal. It is still not time to actually implement your new behaviors, as Parts 5 and 6 will help you to iron out the wrinkles.

Note: Submit both CCC Part 5 and CCC Part 6 in one document, but start a new page for CCC Part 6.

Instructions: Part 5

5A. Covert Rehearsal
Covert Rehearsal is an effective way of trying out new communication behaviors. Think about a time that you were daydreaming, or dreaming at night. You can use your imagination to think about an experience or situation that is not really happening at that time or in that place. You can do the same type of simulation on purpose to think about a time and place that will allow you to practice your new interpersonal communication skill to meet your goal as outlined in your new behaviors listed in CCC Part 4E.

By covertly rehearsing, you make it much more likely that you will be actually performing the behavior comfortably and effectively in real life situations. This surprising effect of covert rehearsal has been shown in numerous studies. What makes covert rehearsal particularly useful is that you can carry it around and do it anywhere – in the shower, cleaning, cooking, and so forth. The more you vary covertly rehearsing a particular episode, the more likely you will be able to perform well in the actual situation. For example, if you are planning to initiate and maintain a conversation with your neighbor, you should think through a number of possible topics and questions before finally choosing what you perceive to be the best options. In other words, think before you speak. Plan what you will say and do in a particular situation where you can practice your goal.

Covert rehearsal can be used both to prepare for an upcoming communication event, and to evaluate and revise an event that has already occurred – as in instant replay. This is done all the time for sports teams. Each player watches the game again and decides how he or she could do it better next time. Both planning ahead before a conversation and reflecting after a conversation will increase the probability that you will perform your new skill effectively the next time you use it.

Note that some people initially find it difficult to imagine specific conversations with others. Keep with it if you have difficulty. You will eventually succeed with practice, and when you do, you will be amazed at the effect. If you are having a hard time talking to people in your mind, speak to yourself out loud or speak to your reflection in the mirror. Think about the following:

  • Identify the situation you would like to practice; do you want to plan a new conversation, or replay a past situation but change the outcome?
  • Where will you have this conversation – in the kitchen, on the bus, in the cafeteria at lunch, at school in a classroom, in the board room, in your manager’s office, or at a friend’s house?
  • Provide a detailed narrative that identifies your selected communication event.
  • Write a description of your surroundings – date, time, location, specific room, physical surroundings and so forth, and the people who will participate in this communication event.
  • Name the people involved, what you will talk about, where it takes place, when it takes place, how it should occur, and why you need to plan for a better conversation next time.
  • How will your physical surroundings affect your rehearsal?

For this section, you are to select a communication event, related to your goal, for which you will prepare covertly. Choose one or more behaviors to work on that are listed in CCC Part 4E. Choose a communication event that you would like to prepare for privately or secretly – covertly. As you imagine yourself practicing your new skill, focus hard on specific interactions. Actually, think about an interpersonal communication exchange – what you say, and how the other person responds. Don’t just go through the motions. Really see yourself asking specific questions, making specific comments, and hearing the other person replying. As you imagine the sequence, practice precisely what you want to say and how you want to say it. Experiment with what feels to be the most effective and comfortable way for you to implement your new behaviors.

Submit a detailed narrative that identifies your selected communication event and include the following:

  • Description of your surroundings – date, time, location, specific room, physical surroundings and so forth
  • Explanation of how your physical surroundings will affect your rehearsal
  • Description of the people who will participate in this communication event
  • What you will talk about
  • How it should occur
  • Why you need to plan for a better conversation next time

5B. Covert Practice
In a quiet place, begin thinking about the conversation event from Part 5A, as you would like to see it evolve. When you hit rough spots, try a variety of options until you find a response that pleases you. If you are having trouble with this, pretend you are an author planning to write the dialogue for a reality TV episode, or you are composing lines for characters in a play or movie or book. Use the mirror technique and take turns role-playing both people in the conversation. You can also use puppets, stuffed animals, socks on your hands, or different hats or coats to take the parts of two people having a conversation.

What can you see in the background? The scenery department needs to know how to create the setting for the play, movie, or reality TV show. The illustrator needs to know what to draw or paint for the book you are writing. You need to know exactly what type of situation you are dealing with before you can write the dialogue for the characters.

When you are satisfied with your imagined scene, write it out so you can see how it looks and read it aloud so you can hear how it sounds. If you are writing a one-act play, you can plan and add stage directions.

Enter left: The wife enters the kitchen to angrily scream at the dawdling children who won’t eat their supper.

Then, write her exact words down so your actor will know what to do and say. Identify each speaker and use quotation marks for their exact words.

Wife, using a loud and angry voice: “Aren’t you children finished eating your supper yet?”

Plan and write down your nonverbal and verbal behaviors and responses, including your own behaviors and responses and the reactions of the other person in the communication event.

5C. Reflection
Reflect on this experience. Address your observations and reactions to the private covert rehearsal experience. (1-2 paragraphs)

  • How did you feel at first as you prepared for your private covert rehearsal?
  • How did you feel after you finished it?
  • What behaviors or patterns did you use from Part 4E?
  • Did you notice any new behaviors or patterns that you have not noted previously?

Instructions: Part 6
In Part 6, you will take your rehearsal a step further by role-playing with someone who is willing to lend you a hand. Practicing implementation of the new behaviors you identified in 4E will give you insight into how another person might react in a real-life situation, preparing you to respond or adapt when necessary.

6A. Shared Behavior Rehearsal
Shared behavior rehearsal is also known as “role-playing.” Rehearsing communication behavior is useful both before and after an event. Practicing before an event allows you to enter a communication situation in your most prepared state. Rehearsing a disappointing situation after it occurs gives you a chance to discover and remedy aspects of your own behavior that were less than satisfactory.

Like covert rehearsal, practicing the new communication behaviors that you identified in CCC Part 4E through role-play increases the likelihood that you will be successful in Part 7 when you actually implement the changes in real-life situations. Again, it may feel silly at first, but if you take the role-playing seriously, you will be amazed at what you will take away from it. Role-play your imagined scene for your conversation event with a friend or family member who is not directly involved in your communication problem. Say your lines as you planned them. Your practice partner may not really say what you thought he or she would say. Then, show him or her the written script, and have him or her read or act out the scenario. You can practice this a few times both with and without the script.

Write a detailed narrative of what happened in the behavior rehearsal.

  • What did you do?
  • How were your behaviors received?
  • How satisfied were you with your performance of the behaviors in your goal from Part 4E?

6B. Reflection on Observations and Reactions
Address your observations and reactions to the shared behavior rehearsal experience of role-playing with a friend or family member who is not directly involved in your communication problem. (1-2 paragraphs)

  • How did you choose your shared behavior rehearsal partner?
  • Does he or she know about the person or situation being focused on for your CCC goal?
  • Does he or she normally offer guidance and advice in a trustworthy manner already in your established relationship with this person?

6C. Reflection on Planning
Write your observations and reactions to the shared behavior rehearsal experience as far as planning is concerned. (1-2 paragraphs)

  • Did your shared behavioral rehearsal go as planned, or was it totally different than you imagined it would be?
  • How did you feel at first as you prepared for your shared behavioral rehearsal?
  • How did you feel after you finished it? What behaviors or patterns did you use from Part 4E?
  • Did you notice any new behaviors or patterns that you have not noted previously?

Writing Requirements (APA format)

  • Length: 4-5 pages (not including title page or references page)

Due Date: By 11:59 p.m. MT on Sunday

Engl reading response 5 cohens these

  • Each reading response entry should begin with a quotation from the required reading. It should be a quote of a passage that you have a question about and that interests you in some way.
  • After you’ve posted the quotation, you need to try to articulate a question that you have about that passage, and that relates to something in the reading that is of interest to you. The question should be explained over at least five sentences. This will give you the opportunity to develop your thinking about the reading in a meaningful way. Do not simple restate facts, or summarize what you’ve read or viewed. We’ve all read it and we DO NOT need you to rehash the plot, the major themes, etc… You should be engaging with this material in a way that reflects what you’re thinking about it. That’s what’s most important here.
  • Each entry should refer directly to the specific passage that you quoted from. You may want to relate this passage to another passage in the reading, or to a broader idea but the question needs to be based in the passage itself.
  • You will also be required to respond to at least one of your classmates’ reading responses. Be sure to engage in a meaningful, respectful way with their ideas. Don’t just say “I agree” or “that’s a bad idea.” Try to use your engagement as an occasion to produce new ideas.

Reading responses are graded, and in order to receive full credit, they need to reflect careful reading and thinking. Reading responses that don’t demonstrate that you’ve done the reading will not receive credit. For instance, if you write, as a question, “Why did you have us read this?” or, “What other books did this author write?” or “What does the author want to say to us?” then you won’t receive credit. Be specific, referencing the reading/viewing material and engaging with it, and you’ll do fine.

summary class

This is the culminating assignment that brings together what we have discussed in this course. Using the information you have already collected (DRDP, ECERS, CLASS, and TPOT) imagine that all of your assessments were conducted on one school. You will create a summary of the school by using the evidence from your assessments and evaluating the program using the QRIS to determine if this particular program meets quality standards.

Instructions

Utilize the data from your observations and notes, course content/course literature and critical thinking skills to establish the schools strengths and areas for improvement.
Follow these steps to help you complete this assignment:

  1. Look over and review your observations and notes from the DRDP assignment, and your ECERS/CLASS observation assignment and the answers to your summary questions in your papers.

  2. Using the QRIS, evaluate the program on the following:

    • Element I –Child outcomes and screening (DRDP)

    • Element 4- Teacher Qualifications and Teacher-Child Interactions (CLASS)

    • Element 6- Program Environment (ECERS)

  3. For elements 2, 3, 5 and 7, choose how many points your school would get (this is your choice, there is no right or wrong answer)

  4. Based on the rating you gave them for the elements above and to the best of your ability, give the school a Site Star Rating. You will need to justify the score you give them with evidence.

  5. Use the NAEYC Standards of Quality (10 components of a quality school) as well as any other course literature to evaluate the school’s quality.

  6. Identify the program’s strengths and areas of improvement.

  7. Using all of the information you compiled from above, in narrative form, write a summary of your program’s quality.

Structure of paper (6 page minimum):

In order to adequately support your conclusions, you need to include:

  • Evidence from observations

  • Explicitly defined course material (Define terms- i.e. validity, reliability etc.)

  • Accurate summaries of course literature

  • Personal Critical thought backed up by research
    Clarity & Style

  • Double check work for spelling errors, complete sentences, run-on sentences, consistent font, punctuation etc.
