NURS 6050 discussion 3 wk 5

Discussion: Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the mission of state/regional boards of nursing as the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice.
  • Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.
  • Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion..
Discussion assignment

Post a comparison of at least two APRN board of nursing regulations in your state of Florida with those of at least one other state/region. Describe how they may differ. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how the regulations you selected may apply to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who have legal authority to practice within the full scope of their education and experience. Provide at least one example of how APRNs may adhere to the two regulations you selected.

Assignment Description

At this point, you are ready to start developing Java code to ask questions on customer information and the sub sandwich that customers want to order. You are only concerned with the functionality to request and provide feedback on what the customer entered. Your main focus is on defining your classes and abstract classes and utilizing the concept of inheritance and polymorphism for the final sub the customer orders. You will first prompt for the customer name and delivery address, like in this sample that prompts for the customer name:

Then, you will prompt for the beverage, sub bread, sub type, and sub size.

You should present a message echoing back all of the information that the customer entered, similar to the following example presenting the customer’s name with a message:

Make sure you prompt for the four attributes (beverage, bread, type, and size) that you will need to request from the customer to define for the final sub and beverage selection. Also, be sure to comment all of your code to demonstrate that you understand what the code is doing.

Deliverable

The following are the project deliverables:

  • Update the title page of the Design Document with the project name (Unit 2 IP) and the date.

3 – Employment Law Infographic

Scenario

Your work as a contract employee for a U.S. based company that develops gaming software. Having been there for years, and going into the office five days a week for usually more than forty hours a week, you were inspired by the various projects you have worked on and in your spare time, using company equipment, you work on your own side project – an app that would give gamers an edge. You know that your company’s business partners would be very enthusiastic about this new product, and you would probably make a great profit; in fact, you might be able to retire! You decide to reach out to these business relationships to see who might have interest.

Instructions

  • Review the situation and conduct scholarly research on employment law. Upon review of the given business situation, create an infographic that evaluates employment law utilizing both federal and state regulations for the state of Florida in the US
  • Address the following:
  • Distinguish between full-time, part-time, at-will, and contract employment statuses, and state which status reflects your employment position in this company.
  • What federal, state and international laws explain the rights, responsibilities and protections of employees and employers in the employment relationship?
  • What are the property rights of employees and employers for inventions as provided in federal intellectual property laws?
  • Use at least three credible sources. These should be cited and in APA format.

Introduction to film week 2 Assignment

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review the discussion of genre in Chapter 3 of Film: From Watching to Seeing, as well as your instructor’s guidance and lecture materials, and Chapter 11 in Film Genre Reader IV. The ENG225 Research Guide in the Ashford University Library will be particularly helpful in locating required sources. This assignment is your opportunity to demonstrate understanding of one selected genre. To do that, you will watch a full feature-length film from that genre.

Please choose a film from this list of approved choices.

Note: You should watch your chosen film twice—once to ensure that you have grasped the storytelling and once to take more specific notes on aspects of the film you wish to discuss. If you would like to write about a film that is not on this list, you must email your professor for approval in advance or you may not receive credit on this assignment.

It is recommended that you look ahead to the Week 3 written assignment and Week 5 Final Paper guidelines to ensure that you choose a film for this assignment that will work with the requirements on those later assignments. You may opt to write about the same film in your Week 3 and Week 5 written assignments, and applicable pieces of this assignment can be used to write that assignment. If you do this, you should reflect on and revise this assignment based on the instructor’s feedback before you incorporate it into any future writing assignment.

Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that focuses on how your chosen feature-length film both aligns with and expands upon your chosen genre. Consider using the Ashford Writing Center Thesis Generator (Links to an external site.) to help develop your thesis. Review the Week 2 sample paper, which provides an example of a well-developed analysis as well as insight on composition.

In your paper,

  • Explain genre theory and, using Chapter 3 of the text as a reference, describe the conventions and attributes of the genre you have selected.
  • Identify a feature-length film that fits your selected genre and briefly summarize the movie. As you develop this summary, remember the differences between a film’s story and a film’s plot and be sure to highlight specific genre elements.
  • Interpret at least two genre conventions exhibited in your chosen feature-length film that help classify it in the selected genre. Be sure to provide a specific example of each convention (e.g., a particular scene or plot component).
  • Provide an example of a third convention from your chosen feature-length film and explain how this convention expands the boundaries of the specified genre.

The Genre and Genre Theory paper

  • Must be 900 to 1200 words in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style (Links to an external site.)
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of Your Essay (in bold)
    • Your First and Last Name
    • Ashford University
    • Course Code: Name of Course (e.g., ENG 225: Introduction to Film)
    • Instructor’s name
    • Due Date

For further assistance with the formatting and the title page, refer to APA Formatting for Word 2013 (Links to an external site.).

Unit 1: Course Project – Topic Selection

22 unread replies.33 replies.

core assessmentIntroduction

The course project is a series of elements where you will examine the current standing of an organization’s training system as it relates to a single training topic. In the final element of the training program, you will provide recommendations to the organization on how this training system can be improved.

Unit Learning Outcomes

  • ULO 1.3 Evaluate relevant scholarly research and synthesize research to complete required assignments.

Directions

For this unit, you will need to select a topic. While you may select your own organization/department, keep in mind that this is graduate level work and, as such, does need to be scholarly in nature. Projects need to be unbiased and written in the third person. Consider yourself examining the training program as a 3rd party outsider without prior knowledge of the system.

Examples of project topics might be:

  • Driver Safety Training for a Delivery Service.
  • Training for the HR Department of a local grocery chain on an HRIS system.
  • Diversity training for a police department.
  • HAZMAT training for the galley crew on board a Navy ship.

In all cases, the topics should be legitimate and not fictitious. As you consider what topic to select, consider how you will be able to gather information on the topic. Sources should be scholarly in nature and might include journal articles, interviews of professionals, organization documents. Personal experience does not count as a scholarly source – remember, you should be using this project as an opportunity to broaden your perspective.

Submission Requirements

Albeit, this assignment is ungraded, it is required. Additional project elements cannot be accepted without the topic approval from the instructor, who will provide comments in discussion board.

Please post your topic, including the organization and training that you will use for the project this term. Include a minimum of two (2) scholarly sources that you plan to use for this assignment.

Benchmark – Staffing Matrix and Reflection

The purpose of this assignment is to prepare students to make staffing decisions based on sound financial management principles and compliance guidelines.

Scenario: You are the nurse leader of a 30-bed medical surgical unit and have to account for all staffing, including any discrepancies. Using sound financial management principles, complete the “NUR-621 Topic 8: Staffing Matrix” in the provided excel template.

After completing the matrix, compose an 1,000-1,250-word reflection answering the following questions:

  1. Why is it important to use a staffing matrix in your health care setting?
  2. Briefly describe your staffing matrix. How many FTEs (full-time equivalent) on the staffing roster are required to cover daily needs? What units of services or work measurement did you use and why? What financial management principles did you use to determine your staffing matrix?
  3. Explain how you adjusted your staffing based on changes in the patient census.
  4. You receive your financial report for the month. You have used more FTEs than what was budgeted for your census. How will you make up the variance? How would you reallocate resources to make up for the variance and still comply with guidelines?

Include two to four peer-reviewed references in your essay, including the textbook.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Scenario/Summary

Adam and his family decided to take a trip to the mountains for the weekend in late February. They had a small cabin and looked forward to a weekend away from the big city. The family had a wonderful time together on Saturday morning hiking in the woods and enjoying nature. However, Saturday afternoon a storm rolled in bringing snow and subfreezing temperatures.

Since the heater in the cabin wasn’t working well, Adam’s mother and sister decided to drive into the nearest town to spend the night. Adam and his father, not being sissies, stayed at the cabin where they started a gas heater to keep them warm.

The next morning Adam’s mother and sister returned to find both Adam and his father unconscious. An ambulance was called and they were both transported to the nearest hospital. Adam had arterial blood gases drawn with the following results:

  • pH 7.2
  • PaCO2 31.4,
  • PaO2 40.7 mmHg

His oxygen saturation was 72%. Adam was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Deliverables

Answer the following questions and save your responses in a Microsoft Word document. Provide a scholarly resource to support your answers.

  1. With respect to hemoglobin loading, please explain the relationship between binding of oxygen (O2) and carbon monoxide (CO) to the hemoglobin molecules.
  2. During the ambulance ride, a pulse oximeter showed 100% O2 saturation. Why is that different from the 72% measured at the hospital?
  3. One course of treatment is a hyperbaric oxygen treatment. How does a hyperbaric chamber work?
  4. Adams blood work shows him to be in an acidosis (normal blood pH is 7.35-7.45). Explain how this will shift the hemoglobin dissociation curve and why.

Submit your case study document.

Project Part 1: Network Design

Scenario

The Corporation Techs’ current network consists of 1 web server (accessible by the public), 2 application servers, 2 database servers, 2file and print servers, and 50 workstations. The web server runs Linux/Apache, the other servers run Microsoft Windows Server, and the workstations run Microsoft Windows. The network is connected through a series of switches, is not physically connected to other networks, and runs Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4).The network is protected by a single border firewall. The senior network architect, whom you work for directly, has verified the company’s business goals and has determined the features and functions required to meet those goals.

The senior network architect has asked you to create a network design that includes the following components:

§ Current infrastructure elements

§ A logical topology that separates the Accounting and Sales departments

§ Redundant communications

§ Justification for continuing with IPv4 or upgrading to IPv6

Tasks

For this part of the project, perform the following tasks:

1. Conduct research to determine the best network design to ensure security of internal access while retaining public website availability.

2. Design a network configuration with physical and logical topologies. Identify major network elements (e.g., servers, switches, gateways) and their locations within the private and protected network segments.

3. Include a high-level plan that ensures communications are available 24/7.

4. Recommendwhether to continue using IPv4 or upgrade to IPv6, and explain why.

5. Create a basic network diagram that illustrates the current network and enhancements. Include a few workstations to represent all workstations on the internal network. The diagram will be very high level at this stage and include only necessary details. You may use a software tool or simply pencil and paper. You will update this design later in the project.

6. Create a draft report detailing all information as supportive documentation.

7. Cite sources, where appropriate.
