    Scenario
You are the campaign manager for a well known environmental outreach organization. The current campaign is to bring awareness to the organization’s Ohio River Clean-Up Project. As the manager, one of your tasks is to review all content and visuals used by the campaign. You actively evaluate and revise any ethical issues that may be detrimental to the project, your organization, or society in general.

As you meet with one of the campaign designers, you identify several ethical problems with the new poster he has created. His poster includes the following elements:

    1. The poster image shows a group of poor, urban, African-American children playing alongside the Ohio River.
    2. The poster text states: “Let’s help them clean up.”
    3. The poster has several overlaid images in the corner of a few celebrities, which gives the impression of celebrity endorsement.
    4. There are no sources acknowledged anywhere on the poster.
    5. The poster has been digitally altered to make the African-American children appear thinner, darker, and dirtier.
    6. Since you are flying out to a campaign meeting in one hour, you ask this campaign designer to hold this poster and wait for your video review.

You plan to take time tomorrow to create a seven minute or less video analysis. Using screen share, you can present the poster image visually and verbally instruct this designer how to correct several ethical visual issues. You realize you will not only have to identify the ethical visual issues and explain how to revise and change them, but you will also need to clearly describe to him the effect these unethical media issues will have on society.

Weekly “What I Learned” from this week’s reading

I am assuming that you have read and taken notes on the two chapters for this week. This assignment has you reflecting  on some significant idea that you came cross in the chapters. It might be a new concept or term, or it might be something you knew about already but are seeing in a different way as a result of the text.

Here are some guidelines.

  1. Write every sentence in your own words. Do not copy and paste a definition from the text. Explain it in your own words.
  2. Is there a connection between this concept and your life? Perhaps there is at your work, or in your school/ family/social dynamics.
  3. I’m looking for evidence that you read the chapters and that you are thinking reflectively about the course concepts.
  4. Your post needs to be at least 3/4 page, but not more than two pages. Check for good grammar and spelling as you would any college paper.
  5. Save your work (as you should for all college courses) then copy and paste your work into the submission box

BASED on chapters 3 and 4……  pick one topic or 2 topics from chapter 3 or chapter 4

Activity

With this activity you will develop your analysis of a TED talk – http://www.ted.com/talks

First, select a “talk” (aka presentation or speech) that interests you from the 1,100 TED Talks (ranging in length from 10 to 20 minutes).

FYI: TED Talks was selected because each speech video should have enough depth or substance, and video quality to allow close viewing and analysis.

Second, review chapters 10, 11 and 12 of your text.

Third, listen to the presentation several times, paying close attention to how the individual uses non-verbal communication, composes sentences, and organizes thoughts, etc. Use the outline below to structure your analysis:

  1. Purpose: General and specific purpose (and implied if different from stated purpose)
  1. Non-verbal delivery
    1. Movement in Your Speech
    2. Visual Aids
  1. Strategies for Success
    1. Pathos: tone, emphasis, engagement
    2. Logos: clarity, conciseness, arrangement
    3. Ethos: credibility, expectation, reference
  1. Style
    1. Appeals (to emotions, logic, ethos)
    2. Figurative language (similes, metaphors, symbols, imagery)
    3. Use of language, word choices (diction)
    4. Passive or active voice
    5. Simple or complex sentences; short or long sentences
  1. Oral strategies and tactics
    1. Music
    2. Volume
    3. Speech patterns (articulation, intonation, emphasis)
    4. Other sound effects

Four, develop your analysis using the variables in all 5 of the areas above. Make sure you develop your arguments and ideas thoroughly. When you post your analysis, include the Ted talk presenter and title of the Ted talk.

Be sure to include the hyperlink to the “talk” you selected so we can view the presentation.

Pestal Analysis

Pick a company which is not famous. Criterion for “not famous” is there should be no PESTEL analysis available on the internet. As such, any help from outside is considered a violation of the requirements of this assignment and is equivalent to fail.

Assume you are a consultant and trying to help the decision makers of the company to decide which channel of global business they should use to enter the Canadian market. So, first explain in brief which of the pull or push factors are encouraging you to enter the Canadian market. Explaining this should demonstrate your understanding of the push-pull factors. Then explain why you have decided in favor of this channel of global business.

Only then should you do your PESTEL analysis in a table format or any other way that is brief and concise. Please don’t lecture on PESTEL. Show you understand how to use data from the PESTEL areas and analyze them based on the situation you are in, in your case penetrating another market under push/pull factors as well as your channels of global business.

You don’t need to cover many factors under each PESTEL area. Two would be enough as long as you do them right, and if you don’t make it relevant larger numbers of PESTEL factors wont help you either.

Always ask yourself “Is anyone ready to pay for the stuff I have written?”, “Is there added to value to what I am bringing to the analysis?”

My rule of thumb is read a lot, write less. It will be good.

And again, if you don’t enjoy it, you wont exceed.

Arts Sculpture Quiz

MOST SCULPTURE CAN BE DESCRIBED AS:

  • Three-dimensional works occupy physical space such as the sculpture below by Jim Love at the Menil Collection

 DSC_0056

  • Relief sculpture is built up from the surface but still attached such as

the continuous frieze in the Parthenon

Greece-0154

  • Installations (are often described as sculpture when they are experienced in three dimensions) More senses are activated.
  • Additive processes such as the Chinese tomb warriors below are built up by adding clay and shaping it.
    Warriors
  • Subtractive processes are used to remove material like the Dogon ritual bench below was created by carving away wood from a larger piece.
  • 1181b Ceremonial ritual stool, Dogon People, Mali
  • Kinetic sculpture (sculpture which incorporates movement) Alexander Calder created mobiles that move with air currents.

San Francisco - SoMa: SFMoMA - Sculpture Garden Pavilion - Alexander Calder's Four Big Dots

  • Casting (used to create multiples or a more permanent replica of a work. It often used for outdoor permanent sculpture like the Henry Moore sculpture below.

Washington DC - Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden - Seated Woman by Henry Moore

Scale (size)

Medium (there can be multiple included)

Public sculpture (permanent)

Public sculpture (temporary or ephemeral)

SELECT ONE OF THE CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS SUPPLIED IN THE THIS WEEKS SCULPTURE MODULE MATERIALS AND USE THE VOCABULARY OF SCULPTURE TO DESCRIBE ONE OF THE 5 ARTISTS WORKS. This process will also serve as a practice for applying all that we have learned this semester. FOLLOW MY EXAMPLE BELOW:

EXAMPLE: I WILL USE AN EXAMPLE FROM EARLIER IN THE SEMESTER Do Ho Suh

 (Links to an external site.)

General description: THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE APPLIED GENERALLY WHEN VIEWING WORKS OF ART

NAME OF THE ARTIST (if known)- Do Ho-Suh

TITLE OF WORK (if available)

DATE THE WORK WAS CREATED (if available)-2003

MEDIUM- Stainless steel dog tags

SUBJECT MATTER- Installation with a larger than life-sized robe, made completely of shiny stainless steel dog tags. The robe spills onto the floor creating a circular pool extending out into the room. To look more closely at the work, you have to walk across the metal garment on the floor. Stepping on the dog tags would create sound.

SCULPTURAL PROCESS- Additive process was used to attach thousands of dog tags to a hidden framework

h occupied, but it is empty. The negative space creates a dark and empty central area of a robe held up by thousands of like individuals.

THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TO FURTHER ANALYZE WORKS OF ART AND LEAD TO A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR CONTENT

HOW DOES THE ARTIST USE FORMAL ELEMENTS? (which elements are important, and why?

COLOR and LIGHT- Shiny silver dog tags reflect light and appear new. Are these newly conscripted soldiers? Are others dying in numbers that these replace? The silver surface acts like a mirror with multiple images of self reflected back.

LINE- The garment creates a circular outline on the floor, guiding the viewer around the work. Row after row of dog tags repeat the outline circling the garment over and over, leading around and around. The lines are created from thousands of individual dogtags. Each with a person’s name inscribed on it.

SPACE- The sculpture occupies the center of the room. The Negative space in the center of the garment implies emptiness. The garment has volume as thoug

TIME- Time is an important element and references to it are made by so many individual dog tags indicating individual lives. Military service may end in loss of life. Questions of lives supporting an empty robe also reference the temporal aspects of life.

CULTURAL CONTEXT- (Is it important to reference the cultural context to understand the Content or the intention of the artist?) Do Ho Suh was born in Korea. In interviews, the artist speaks of the requirement of all young men to serve in the Korean military after High School. He speaks of his military training as a process of dehumanization and what it takes for one human to kill another.

CONTENT: What do you think is the meaning of the work of art, considering all of the information that you have put together? Do Ho Suh’s installation uses thousands of military dog tags; each with a name inscribed on it, to indicate thousands of individuals. Paradoxically, the replication and sameness of the tags also denied any individuality. All become anonymous parts of an empty whole. The piece is exquisitely beautiful with its shiny and seductive surface, but devoid of humans. It left me asking questions about the value of individual lives.

Nursing 210

Based on what you have studied and heard in class, the impact on genetics on disease is becoming a part of how we practice.  If you watch television, you might have seen the advertisements for genetic testing and you often see people very excited about “finally” having detailed information about their heritage.  I want to start a discussion on the pros and cons of genetic testing. By genetic testing, I do not mean heritage, but instead the effects of genetics on ones’ health.  Currently, patients can be tested for several issues, like hemophilia or sickle cell disease, but the horizon is full of possible testing, including looking at the risk of cancers and problems with the fetus.   This is a personal opinion and you can bring in resources if you like, but I’d like you to discuss genetic testing because, as a nurse, people will ask your opinion and you cannot give an honest response until you explore it.  Answer the questions below in your initial post with an expected 300 – 500-word essay.

  • Should genetic testing be mandatory?
  • Should doctors, insurance companies, hospitals, employers require it of everyone they see, insure, hire, treat?
  • What are the benefits of genetic testing?
  • What are the potential problems with genetic testing?
  • If it was offered to you today, would you do it?

Your reply post should be meaningful and responses respectful and substantive.  “Nice post” is neither. The reply post should be 250-350  words in length.

You must reference your initial discussion post rationale make sure to use APA formatting for your reference and in-text citations. You do not need to reference your reply posting.

Stakeholder involvement refers to the process of attracting and involving individuals, groups, and organizations that may be influenced or impacted by a project. Investors, workers, consumers, suppliers, communities, governments, and trade groups are all examples of stakeholders. Internal and external stakeholders might make up an entity’s stakeholders. Their assistance is essential since they supply the essential resources, skills, and expertise for the project’s implementation. Furthermore, they have an impact on public perceptions of expected change. It is critical to tell stakeholders about the project through interactive forums in order to get their support (Hall, 2020). The more you engage and involve stakeholders in your project, the more you’ll be able to mitigate and expose hazards.

For my change project of patient safety among patients diagnosed with an eating disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, it is essential to engage stakeholders. Since these patients require long-term care support from patients, family members, social worker, case manager, psychiatrist, and therapist is vital for the smooth transition of care during step up and step down of treatment from partial and outpatient program to inpatient care and vice versa. I will secure that support with stakeholders by building a good rapport with them and encouraging active involvement in a project from all of them, and listening to their feedback to make this project successful with necessary changes. Patients, physicians, employers, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and the government are all key players in the healthcare system. Patients are the recipients of medical treatment, while physicians offer it. Psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other health professionals and technicians are all trained in academic institutions. Psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners, nurses, occupational therapists, and social workers all belong to professional societies.

Re: Topic 5 DQ 1

Stakeholder support is needed for a successful project implementation. Internal stakeholders have company knowledgeable of where or who to refer proposal or change of proposal. External stakeholders do the same but in a higher level, their role is to help to ensure guidelines that are acceptable and feasible to community users. Also, stakeholders ensure that impartiality, human rights are not violated at any level, adopt policy, and practice. According to Petkovic, Tugwell. (2020), following previous responsibilities lead to improved adherence to treatments, practices recommended, and long-term successful program.

For my changer project about the steps that have been done to reduce medical errors that lead to deaths includes medication educations and patient safety. Stakeholders push for higher employment education requirements like BSN, CPR, and ACLS. Stakeholders provide enough evidence that prove that nurses with higher education are less likely to put patients in danger due to medical errors.

Discussion Questions

Care expressed and practiced in professional nursing models provides a way of looking at the nursing role from the aspect of care. It may seem excessive to consider aspects of caring and compassion in nursing. However, precisely because it IS nursing makes it crucial to our continual progress of defining and upholding one of our central professional principles.

Address each of these items:

  • Reflect on a caring and compassionate experience with a patient or family encountered in your practice.
  • How was your compassion demonstrated?
  • How does your thinking about compassion expand to include self and colleagues?
  • Reflect on the iCARE Self-Assessment and share an insight related to this discussion.

Please complete the iCARE Self-Assessment (Links to an external site.) and download for your own use and information. The self-assessment is not a graded item.
