nursing leadership and ethics case study. 1200 words due 6-16-21

Shawna, a new staff member, has been working from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on an infectious disease floor since obtaining her RN license 4 months ago. Most of the staff members with whom she works with have been there since the unit opened 5 years ago. On a typical day, the staffing consists of a nurse manager, two RNs, an LPN, and one technician for approximately 40 patients. Most patients are HIV-positive with multisystem failure. Many are severely debilitated and need help with their activities of daily living. Although the staff members encourage family members and loved ones to help, most of them are unavailable because they work during the day. Several days a week, the nursing students from Shawna’s community college program are assigned to the floor.

Tina, the nurse manager, does not participate in any direct patient care, saying that she is “too busy at the desk.” Laverne, the other RN, says the unit depresses her and that she has requested a transfer to pediatrics. Lynn, the LPN, wants to “give meds” because she is “sick of the patients’ constant whining,” and Sheila, the technician, is “just plain exhausted.” Lately, Shawna has noticed that the other staff members seem to avoid the nursing students and reply to their questions with annoyed, short answers. Shawna is feeling alone and overwhelmed and goes home at night worrying about the patients, who need more care and attention. She is afraid to ask Tina for more help because she does not want to be considered incompetent or a complainer. When she confided in Lynn about her concerns, Lynn replied, “Get real-no one here cares about the patients or us. All they care about is the bottom line! Why did a smart girl like you choose nursing in the first place?”

Respond to each question in 150 to 200 words per question and include 4 reference in APA 7th format.

Discipline-Based Literature Review

For this discipline-based literature review, you will research peer-reviewed articles that were published within the last 10 years in the Ashford University Library on the following major perspectives of personality.

  • Psychodynamic
  • Behavioral
  • Trait
  • Learning/Social
  • Humanistic

You will utilize your researched article to create your literature review. The review should be formatted with the headings and content designated below.

Introduction
Assess the types of personality measurements and research designs used in in the peer-reviewed articles you researched. Briefly describe the main theoretical models represented within each of the perspectives of personality and explain the commonalities found across all five.

Discussion
Examine the major theoretical approaches, research methods, and assessment instruments used in the five perspectives of personality. Evaluate and describe the current research in these perspectives using a minimum of one peer-reviewed article for each of the five required perspectives. Present a detailed critique of each of the perspectives by evaluating the standardization, reliability and validity, and cultural considerations present in the most common personality assessments used within each. Support your opinions about each model by substantiating them with scholarly research.  Be sure to include the following:

  • The theoretical framework(s) for the selected models
  • The major contributors to those fields
  • The methods of inquiry and assessment usually associated with those models
  • An overview of the characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of the models

Conclusion
Provide a summary of your evaluation addressing the current use and relevance of these perspectives in explaining personality citing research as appropriate.

Regression

Regression Project

Problem Section (20 points)

Topic selection is VERY important! What problem are you trying to answer? Why is it important? Develop the problem with some background. You may want to answer the following questions in this section in order to develop the problem. Why would you want to know about you Y? Why do you want to know about your X’s vs. Y? In other words, why is this impact of X on Y useful information? What important problem does it solve to know thus information? Of what use will the results be? Explain why or how you chose the X variables that you included in the regression. Explain why you think they may be important explanatory variables in the regression.

Describe the sample (20 points)

Mention how you got the sample (if you did a survey, be sure to include this in the appendix) and describe the variables included in the model. Provide some summary statistics.

State the regression equation (10 points)

  • Interpret the results of the ANOVA F Statistic (Useful Regression?)
  • Interpret the adjusted R squared

Results (80 points)

Interpret the results of each beta. Write 2-3 sentences about each variable. One sentence explain what you expected, another sentence stating the results that you found (the formal interpretation), and then a third explaining WHY you think you got this result. Also, provide information on any min/max if they apply. This should be written in paragraph form.

  • Is the result counter intuitive – tell the audience about what you think here
  • Don’t forget that insignificant coefficients give you a lot of information, too. The fact that a variable does not explain variation is useful!
  • Notice I did not say to test the Betas, that was done implicitly with the stars ( and these tests with their results are put in the appendix.)

Summary / Conclusions (40 points)

Implications must be included. If you wrote a good problem statement this follows directly from the problem statement. Implications state therefore we should…Use the information contained in the regression. Why is it useful and to whom?

Shortcomings of the analysis (20 points)

Look at your =sample and say why it may not be representative of your target population. Also, include any other factors you might have left out which could affect adversely the regression results. If you were unable to correct some of the regression assumptions, mention that here.

Grammar (10 points)

These are all or nothing. PLEASE PROOF READ YOUR PAPER!

As we read, preemption happens when legislation at a higher level of government is used to overrule authority at a lower level. “States have imposed a wide array of mandates upon their local governments, which often reflect the need for minimum standards of services levels” (Stephens and Wikstrom, 2006). Unfortunately, the states do not always do what’s best for citizens; they do what they believe will aid the state, and often times it’s not the majority vote. A common source of preemption disputes is firearms regulations. State governments have overruled local governments’ gun laws and preemptively prohibited localities from enacting their own firearms regulations. Local gun ordinances have also been questioned in the courts under state law. These tensions have often drawn the attention of national organizations participating in the debate on weapons control, such as the Second Amendment Foundation and Mons Demand Action in America for Gun Sense (Ballotpedia, n.d.).

In 2019, Governor Northam of Virginia signed a revolutionary gun safety legislation into law, January 2020, under majority Democratic control. Northam stated, “things like universal background checks. They were getting rid of bump stocks, high volume magazines, red flag laws. These are commonsense pieces of legislation” (Ballotpedia, n.d.). Governor Northam signed five bills that require background checks on all firearm sales in Virginia, establish an extreme risk protective order, reinstate Virginia’s one-handgun-a-month rule, requires gun owners to report their lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement within 48 hours, and prevents children from accessing firearms by increasing the penalty for recklessly leaving firearms in their presence. Northam also proposed amendments to two bills: allow localities to regulate firearms in public buildings, parks, recreation centers, and during permitted events and the second prohibiting individuals subject to protective orders from possessing firearms, require them to turn over their firearms within 24 hours and certify to the court that they have turned over their weapons (Virginia Govenor, 2020). In response to this, local governments responded by passing resolutions designed to prevent law enforcement agencies within their jurisdictions from enforcing state gun laws the localities considered unconstitutional. Mid-year 2020, over 90% of the counties within Virginia, along with 56 cities and towns, passed resolutions refusing to enforce state gun laws. In late 2020, Virginia’s attorney general Mark Herring responded to the solutions by stating that they had no legal force. He also said, “ when the General Assembly passes new gun safety laws, they will be enforced, and they will be followed” (Ballotpedia, n.d.).

Truth be told, in order to spearhead change that is supported by a significant or majority of the population should have no limits; however, the federal government does not always have the citizen’s best interest in mind. This is why we have the twelfth Amendment, which I spoke about last week. Local and state governments are more involved with the citizens, and in my opinion, should have the majority rule when it comes to change. We are not getting to vote on certain things like same-sex marriage, civil rights movement, so how can it be said that it is the majority? Where are the numbers coming from? Yes, our elected representatives who are supposed to have our best interests are the voters, but the truth is, they’re shady, and there are so many backroom deals that occur for things to be passed. Its quid-pro-quo, you do this for me, and I’ll help you get this done. The majority of the time, it is the minority vote that the government goes after, not the majority.

Business Continuity Plan for a Financial Institution

PROJECT TITLE

Business Continuity Plan for Financial Institutions

ABSTRACT

Due to increase in customers’ demand, competition, 24hrs continuous service, frequent changes in regulatory policy requirements and changes in various threats landscape have put some pressures on financial institution to bring up a robust and comprehensive contingency plans that assured the continuity of their services.

This paper outlines the relevance of business continuity plan to financial institutions. This project will highlight the stakeholder’s involvement in the development of the plan, the understanding of the plan and how often the plan will be tested.

INTRODUCTION

Financial organizations could confront the disruption of major services due to attacks such as natural disasters like floods, earthquake, or fire. Disruption of services could come because of hacktivist attacks, servers, and networks problems. Because all these reasons, financial institutions need to develop a comprehensive business continuity plans that guarantees quick recovery of business after a disaster.

A single occurrence of a disaster can results in greater financial losses, erode investors and customers confidence and damaging of corporate image. Such an act can also lead to serious legal issues and litigations.

A well designed, implemented and tested contingency plan is the best assurance to protect against financial losses to any organization (Moore, 1995). There is a need for financial organizations to have an effective Business Continuity Plan (BCP) that ensure quick business resumption and limit losses in the event of services disruptions.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS

Financial institutions are susceptible to different types of services disruptions stated in the introduction above, which could adversely impact the organization. In today’s world, Business Continuity Management (BCM) is becoming increasingly important. This research work will highlight the relevance of Business Continuity Planning to financial institutions and analyses the disaster preparedness of financial institutions to major disasters and disruptions by examining the Business Continuity Management policies, standards, and practices. It will go further to test the awareness and readiness of the stakeholders.

Objective of the study

This research work will highlight the importance of Business Continuity Planning to Financial Institutions.

Scope of the study

This study will be limited to BCP development for financial institutions only. It will cover the following key areas

· Business Continuity Plan Process

o Identification of key business areas.

o Identification of critical functions.

o Identify dependencies between various business areas and functions.

o Determine acceptable downtime for each critical function.

o Create a plan to maintain operations.

· Components of Business Continuity Plan:

o Business Impact Analysis

o Disaster Recovery Plan

o Disaster Recovery Plan and Tabletop test.

· Challenges with implementing Business Continuity Plan

· Summary

Strategic Thinking

Thinking strategically using strategic models and techniques must be the precursor to strategic planning and implementation. The perception of “thinking” is often considered to be a subjective “out of the box” process with little defense or research of the proposed opportunity. Strategic thinking may contain those same proposed outcomes; however, the process includes defined research models defending and supporting the recommendations for a sustainable business model.

Two companies that are at opposite ends of the spectrum in development and growth are Whole Foods and Kmart. For this discussion, provide a researched summary for   one of the two organizations including its history and current market situation. Define the success or failure of their business model and the potential for future sustainability. Support your thoughts using one or more of the described strategic thinking techniques, such as blue ocean, structured brainstorming, Abell’s three-dimensional business definition model, strategic frontiers, four-action framework, and strategy canvas.

Using the same company, perform a brief external environmental analysis looking at the industry, the competition, the market, and the general environment to defend your strategic thinking choices and explain how the analysis will support future strategic planning and implementation, either as a growth opportunity or a termination of business.

Week 4 Final Paper Due By Wednesday

It is highly recommended you use the course textbook by Jones & George (2020), as a source when referring to the management concepts when you are writing your paper, in addition to the three required journal articles and professional sources found in the Online Keiser Library, and other professional sources.

Please be sure to read, understand, and follow the Week 4 Paper assignment guidelines, instructions, and rubric. There are also instructions provided in the APA 7th ed. format paper template. All instructions are very well-detailed and will help you understand each component of the paper, so you can successfully meet the requirements and optimize your success in this course.

Please note it is required to include an Introduction and Summary.

There are three main components in this assignment and they should be used as your APA Level 1 Topic Headings in your paper:

  • The CEO’s personal and professional background
  • Management Style and Skills
  • Research about why this person is (or is not) such an effective manager/leader

The focus of your paper and the majority of the content should include the management concepts you learned in this course, so please provide well-detailed, comprehensive information regarding the CEO’s management/leadership style(s) and skills and why this person is (or is not) such and effective leader.

Please include only relevant information regarding the CEO’s personal and professional background that correlates to and supports their management style and skills and why the CEO is (or is not) an effective leader. Please do not not include in-depth personal information about the CEO’s parents, spouse, and children.

I have also posted announcements throughout this course with helpful information regarding APA 7th ed. format and I provided Easy Online Keiser Library step-by-step instructions. It is required you include a minimum of three (3) journal articles and professional sources from the Online Keiser Library in addition to the course textbook and other professional websites. Please review these announcements and include these required sources.

Please use the APA 7th ed. Format Paper Template provided for your Week 4 Final Paper to optimize your success for this assignment. The template can also be found in the assignment guidelines. You can just type your information in this template and upload it in the assignment submission which is located in Week 4 in the course menu on the left sidebar.

  • It is required your paper is submitted on a Microsoft Word document. All other formats are not accepted. Please do not submit your paper in PDF format.

Please utilize the APA 7th ed. format resources in the Getting Started tab titled: ‘Business Writing and Research APA Formatting Videos’ to learn correct APA format for citing your sources and writing your references. Providing correct APA 7th ed. format for your citations and references is required.

Please note Wikipedia, Wiki websites, Blogs, Bibliography.com, encyclopedias, dictionaries, essays, videos, online books, other books, newspapers, and other students’ papers found online are not accepted sources. Using essays and other students’ papers found online and copying information from sources is plagiarism and will result in a zero (0) grade for your assignment. Please research your own sources and provide your own cited paraphrased or summarized information in your paper. Your papers will be automatically submitted to SafeAssign so please be sure to paraphrase or summarize the information you use from your sources in your own words rather than copying and pasting information directly from your sources. All paraphrased or summarized information from sources is required to be cited using APA 7th ed. format in-text citations from the sources and all sources are required to be listed on your Reference page in correct APA 7th ed. format.
