Weekly New 2

Research the internet or local newspapers about an issue regarding child protection. The article/newspaper article must be within the last 6 months and you must DEAL WITH ONLY CURRENT NEWS ABOUT A CHILD PROTECTIVE ISSUE OR AN ISSUE that can manifest itself into a child abuse/neglect.

For instance: child poverty, lack of education, children’s death, lack of investigation procedures, etc.

Provide a copy of the article in your submission. If this article is on a newspaper you may scan the article for the class and instructor to review and attach it next to your review.

Please follow these instructions in detail as you will be evaluated in your ability to perform the following:

1. Come up with a title for your article review paper. This title should reflect the focus of your review and NOT the title of the article. Decide between a declarative title, descriptive title or interrogative title. Write your cover page properly. Ensure that you follow APA guidelines for your paper. If you should have any questions about APA format, you are encouraged to use the APA resources available in the course.

2. Write the introduction of your review. The introduction of the article review will have the identification sentence. It will also mention the central themes of the article and the arguments and claims of the author. You also need to state the author’s thesis. Sometimes, the thesis has multiple points. The thesis may not be clearly stated in the article, so you may have to determine the thesis yourself.

Don’t: make statements in the first person (“I”).

Do: give an overall impression of the article using the 3rd person and a formal, academic style.

  • Your introduction should only be 10-25% of your review.
  • End the introduction with your thesis. Your thesis should address the focus of the article you chose:
    • For example: Although the author has some good points, his article is biased and contains some misinterpretation of data from others’ analysis of the effectiveness of parent-child interaction therapy in the prevention of child/abuse and neglect.

Summarize the article. Express the main points, arguments, and findings of the article in your own words, referring to your summary for assistance. Show how the article supports its claims. Make sure to include the article’s conclusions. This may be done in several paragraphs, although the length will depend on requirements established by your instructor or publisher.
Don’t: cover specific examples, statistics, or background information familiar to experts in the field.

Do: capture the main points of each section, as space allows.

  • Use direct quotes from the author sparingly.
  • Review the summary you have written. Read over your summary several times to ensure that your words are an accurate description of the author’s article.

Write your critique. Use your outline of opinions to write several paragraphs explaining how well the author addressed the topic. Express your opinion about whether the article was a clear, thorough, and useful explanation of the subject. This is the core of your article review. Evaluate the article’s contribution to the field and the importance to the field. Evaluate the main points and arguments in the article. Decide if the author’s points help her argument. Identify any biases. Decide if you agree with the writer, then provide sufficient support as to why or why not. End by suggesting which audiences would benefit from reading the article.
Don’t: fill your review with a long list of unrelated critiques.

Do: tie your grievances and praise together into a coherent argument, forming your own thesis.

  • Support your critique with evidence from the article or other texts.
  • The summary portion is very important for your critique. You must make the author’s argument clear in the summary section for your evaluation to make sense.
  • Remember, this is not where you say if you liked the article or not. You are assessing the significance and relevance of the article.
  • Use a topic sentence and supportive arguments for each opinion. For example, you might address a particular strength in the first sentence of the opinion section, followed by several sentences elaborating on the significance of the point.

Conclude the article review. In a paragraph, summarize the main points of the article, as well as your opinions about its significance, accuracy, and clarity. If relevant, also comment on implications for further research or discussion in the field.

  • This should only be about 10% of your overall essay.
  • For example: This critical review has evaluated the article “Protective Measures employed by a corrupt child abuse and fractured system” by Theresa McManon . The arguments in the article show the presence of bias, prejudice, argumentative writing without supporting details, and misinformation. These points weaken the author’s arguments and reduce his credibility.

Proofread. Reread the review. Look for grammar, mechanics, and usage mistakes. Make sure to cut any extra, unneeded information.

  • Make sure you have identified and discussed the 3-4 key issues in the article.

Constructing Logical Arguments CM220

This competency assessment assesses the following Outcome(s):

CM220M2-1: Construct logical arguments.

Assessment objective: Create a persuasive, problem-solving thesis statement and evaluate the effectiveness of that thesis using the rhetorical situation and the rhetorical triangle.

In this module’s competency assessment, you will write a persuasive thesis statement that proposes a solution to a problem in your community or workplace and evaluate the effectiveness of that argument using the rhetorical situation and rhetorical triangle.

You will complete a chart for this assessment. Download the file, save it with a name like LastNameCM220Module2assessment, and fill in the chart.

In Part I, you will create a persuasive thesis statement, identify the underlying assumption in that thesis statement, and discuss the common ground you believe you share with your audience. Make sure the thesis is concise (1–2 sentences) and clearly expresses a persuasive argument that offers a solution to a problem in your community or workplace.

Make sure the thesis is concise (1–2 sentences) and clearly expresses a persuasive argument that offers a solution to a problem in your community. Use the enthymeme format (Claim + reason/s).

In Part II, describe your purpose (what is the problem you want to solve and how do you plan to solve it?), audience (key stakeholders), and setting. You will provide details about whom you need to convince to bring about change and explain the community you are writing about.

Finally, in Part III you will evaluate your argument based on the three rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos). For Part III, be sure to use complete sentences and offer specific examples. Aim for 5-7 sentences per section.

You will want to discuss rival hypotheses and how you plan to address them, research you will need to conduct to support your claims, and strategies you can use to connect with your audience. Be sure to discuss at least one source you can use to support claims and to identify a specific logical fallacy your argument could be susceptible to and how to avoid that fallacy.

You will complete a worksheet for this course assessment

ECO-202-T4386 Macroeconomics 21EW4

Competencies

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competencies:

  • Make decisions informed by macroeconomic principles and the business cycle
  • Determine the economic impact of historical and current events using models of macroeconomics
  • Assess how changes to macroeconomic policies impact the economy

Scenario

You have just completed your seven-year term as the chief economic policy advisor responsible for managing the economy of the nation of Econland. You are expected to create a report for the incoming administration. In this outgoing report, you will summarize your macroeconomic policy decisions and the economic outcomes for Econland. The purpose of this report is to share the lessons you’ve learned over your term and promote sound macroeconomic decision making moving forward.

Directions

First, assemble the materials that you will need to complete this assignment:

  1. Access the Macroeconomics Simulation: Econland from Harvard Business Review and select either the Rollercoaster or Stagnation scenarios. Once you have completed your final year of your seven-year term, you can access the final reports under the Dashboard and Reports tabs at the top of the webpage. You will use these charts, graphs, and other visualizations to illustrate your report in the indicated areas of the template (for example, Table 1.1). Reach out to your instructor if you have any questions about accessing these resources.
  2. Review and use the Project Template located in the What to Submit section.
    • The cover page, Table of Contents, and Introduction sections of your report are provided and should remain standard in all submissions except where indicated in the template. You should read the brief Introduction section, as it provides insight into the purpose and structure of the deliverable, and add the high-level descriptions where prompted.
    • There are placeholders in the template for your data visualizations (e.g., charts, graphs, tables, etc.). These placeholders are meant to give you a rough approximation of the placement of the visualizations that are required. You should replace the placeholders with the appropriate, indicated images in each case. To create an isolated image from the simulation data, it is recommended that you use a snipping tool or other image-editing software to copy and paste your data visualizations into the template. See the relevant tutorials in the Supporting Materials section for more information.
    • You are expected to reference any source material used in your report with appropriate citations. To support you, a References page has been added to the project template with the citation for the course’s reading already provided. Any other references you add should be cited according to APA format.

Once you have assembled the required materials listed above, you can now begin drafting your economic summary report by completing the following steps:

  1. The first section of your report is the Introduction, in which you will personalize the provided content with the particular information related to your term (i.e., your simulation results) as the chief economic policy advisor for the nation of Econland. Follow the instructions in the template for contextualizing this section, including adding Table 3 from your simulation report to the indicated area of the template (i.e., Table 1.1). Then, add a two- to three-sentence summary specifying which underlying scenario you chose and your overall performance and approval rating.
  2. Taxation Policies: In the Fiscal Policies: Taxation section of your report, discuss the taxation policies of Econland for the public and your successor. Within this section, you should add an image of Table 1 from your simulation results to the indicated area of the template (i.e., Table 2.1). Then, answer the following questions in the paragraphs below the table:
    • Explain your intent for the taxation policy decisions you made over your seven-year term. What were the macroeconomic principles or models that influenced your decision making?
    • Identify the impact of your changes to the income and corporate tax rates. How were consumption and investment affected by your tax-policy decisions? Explain these dynamics using specific macroeconomic principles from the course reading.
    • Compare and contrast the impact of your tax policy decisions with those of current or historical examples in the United States. What do these examples demonstrate about the validity of macroeconomic models? Be sure to cite your research appropriately. (See the Supporting Materials section.)
  3. Government Spending: In the Fiscal Policies: Government Expenditure section of your report, discuss government spending policies of Econland for the public and your successor. Within this section, you should add an image of the “Real GDP Growth” and “Unemployment Rate” graphs from your simulation results and use an aggregate demand and aggregate supply (AD/AS) model to the indicated area of the template (i.e., Figures 3.1 and 3.2). Images of the AD/AS model can be found in the course reading or any reputable online source. Then, answer the following questions in the paragraphs below the figures:
    • Explain your decision making regarding government expenditure and how it changed based on the macroeconomic conditions. What was the intent of your fiscal policy decisions in response to the given economic climate?
    • Evaluate your fiscal policy decisions, including how they impacted key macroeconomics factors such as real GDP growth and unemployment. To what extent did your policies yield positive or negative outcomes?
    • Refer to the AD/AS model to support your analysis in this section of your report.
  4. Monetary Policies: In the Monetary Policies section of your report, discuss the monetary policies of Econland for the public and your successor. Within this section, you should add an image of the “Inflation Rate” graph from your simulation results to the indicated area of the template (i.e., Figure 4.1). Then, answer the following questions in the paragraphs below the figure:
    • Explain how you changed the interest rate levels and how these changes impacted other macroeconomic factors such as inflation, consumption, investments, GDP, and foreign trade. Provide specific examples to help illustrate.
    • Compare and contrast the impact of your monetary policies with those of current or historical examples in the United States. What do these examples demonstrate about the validity of macroeconomic models? Be sure to cite your research appropriately. (See the Supporting Materials section.)
  5. Global Context: In the Global Context section of your report, you will expand your discussion from the particular case of Econland to consider the wider global context. Analyze the impacts of openness to trade in general. Why and how are the impacts of monetary and fiscal policies different in a closed economy versus an open economy? Support your claims with specific details from the course reading.
  6. Conclusions: In the Conclusions section of your report, draw your overall conclusions about the relevance and significance of macroeconomics for the public and your successor.
    • Assess the effectiveness of your economic policy decisions. Did your economic policy decisions produce the anticipated results? Did your macroeconomic principles and models behave in ways that you expected? Provide specific examples to illustrate.
    • Evaluate how consumer confidence might have impacted the outcomes of your policy decisions for the economy of Econland. Why is consumer confidence a relevant factor for making informed macroeconomic decisions?
  7. Finally, ensure that all of your sources are properly cited using in-line citations and references according to APA format.

What to Submit

Assessing Client Family Progress

Part 1: Progress Note

Using the client family from your Week 3  Practicum Assignment, address in a progress note (without violating  HIPAA regulations) the following:

  • Treatment modality used and efficacy of approach
  • Progress and/or lack of progress toward the mutually agreed-upon  client goals (reference the treatment plan for progress toward goals)
  • Modification(s) of the treatment plan that were made based on progress/lack of progress
  • Clinical impressions regarding diagnosis and or symptoms
  • Relevant psychosocial information or changes from original  assessment (e.g., marriage, separation/divorce, new relationships, move  to a new house/apartment, change of job)
  • Safety issues
  • Clinical emergencies/actions taken
  • Medications used by the patient, even if the nurse psychotherapist was not the one prescribing them
  • Treatment compliance/lack of compliance
  • Clinical consultations
  • Collaboration with other professionals (e.g., phone consultations with physicians, psychiatrists, marriage/family therapists)
  • The therapist’s recommendations, including whether the client agreed to the recommendations
  • Referrals made/reasons for making referrals
  • Termination/issues that are relevant to the termination process  (e.g., client informed of loss of insurance or refusal of insurance  company to pay for continued sessions)
  • Issues related to consent and/or informed consent for treatment
  • Information concerning child abuse and/or elder or dependent adult  abuse, including documentation as to where the abuse was reported
  • Information reflecting the therapist’s exercise of clinical judgment

Note: Be sure to exclude any information that should not be found in a discoverable progress note.

Part 2: Privileged Note

Based on this week’s readings, prepare a  privileged psychotherapy note that you would use to document your  impressions of therapeutic progress/therapy sessions for your client  family from the Week 3 Practicum Assignment.

In your progress note, address the following:

  • Include items that you would not typically include in a note as part of the clinical record.
  • Explain why the items you included in the privileged note would not be included in the client family’s progress note.
  • Explain whether your preceptor uses privileged notes. If so,  describe the type of information he or she might include. If not,  explain why.

Rapid Critical Appraisal checklists (UTI & CAUTIs)

This week, you are to complete a critical appraisal of one of your “keeper” articles as your discussion posting. Please be sure to include your Instructor-approved PICOT question to start the discussion.

Rapid Critical Appraisal checklists consisting of a set of simple but important questions. Below are sample questions developed for use with quantitative studies that are applicable to most appraisal situations (it’s important to note that qualitative evidence, if it’s relevant to the clinical question, should not be dismissed):

  1. Why was the study done? Make sure the study is directly relevant to the clinical question.
  2. What is the sample size? Size can and should vary according to the nature of the study. Since determining a valid minimum sample size in a single study can be difficult, taking into account multiple studies is beneficial. The answer to this question alone should not remove a study from the appraisal process.
  3. Are instruments of the variables in the study clearly defined and reliable? Make sure the variables were consistently applied throughout the study and that they measured what the researchers said they were going to measure.
  4. How was the data analyzed?Make sure that any statistics are relevant to the clinical question.
  5. Were there any unusual events during the study? If the sample size changed, for example, determine whether that has ramifications if you wish to replicate the study.
  6. How do the results fit in with previous research in this area? Make sure the study builds on other studies of a similar nature.
  7. What are the implications of the research for clinical practice? Ask whether the study addresses a relevant and important clinical issue.

Explaining a concept essay (3 pages or 1400 words)

Write a 3-4 page (approximately 1400 words) explaining a concept essay in Modern Language Association format (MLA) about a concept that interests you and that you want to study further. The concept you choose to explain may be related to your college courses, identity and community, or career and work. When you have a good understanding of the concept, explain it to your readers, considering carefully what they already know about it and how your essay might add to what they know.

Essay Structure:
  • Begin with a clearly written introductory paragraph. A focused concept that is neither too narrow nor too broad, explicitly identified in a thesis statement, will be clearly evident.
  • Body paragraphs will develop the main ideas stated in the introduction, which may be anticipated by a forecasting statement. The paragraphs will be appropriately detailed and demonstrate strong unity, coherence, and development. Each paragraph will support the thesis statement, and contain transitions to help the reader easily shift from topic to topic.
  • The conclusion will remind readers what they have learned from reading the essay by summarizing the information presented. The conclusion may also give advice on how to apply that information or speculate about the future of the concept Grammar and mechanics will be free of error. Editing will be thorough.
  • Following the conclusion will be a properly formatted Works Cited page, containing at least three sources.

Your essay should incorporate some if not all of the techniques of this genre of writing as explained in our Module 04 reading assignments. The best essays will make good use of the following: an engaging introduction to the concept through anecdotes, rhetorical questions, epigraphs, and inclusive or conversational language; an explicit thesis and forecasting statement; thesis support in the form of expert sources, examples, and specifics; clear definitions of terminology; logical classification of information; and transition words and sentences.

Works Cited Page & MLA Formatting Requirements:
  • Three sources should be cited.
  • Sources can be any combination of print or electronic sources.
  • Sources should be listed alphabetically .
  • In-text citation in the form of signal phrases and parenthetical citations to identify your sources are required throughout the essay.

***For the purpose of this assignment, your explanation should be interesting, meaningful, logical, and informative. Give careful consideration to your audience, and what they might already know or think about your concept.

Activity: The Value of Groups and Networks Start Assignment

For this assignment, you will read two articles and a blog post and then write a response to the questions below. Submit your answers as a Word document to the assignment dropbox on Canvas. In total, your response should fill about a page in order to be thorough yet concise in your discussion.

The general theme of today’s readings is how our group memberships and social network ties improve our lives.

  1. Based on the reading “Social Networks: The Value of Variety,” how does having a diverse set of network ties provide advantages? Give at least 2 specific examples from the reading.
  2. Why is it that most people are more likely to find jobs through “weak ties” than strong ties?
  3. In what ways do acquaintances improve health? How does the author explain these potential improvements? That is, why does having more diverse contacts potentially improve our health?
  4. After reading the blog post on positive peer pressure, think about the positive aspects of how group memberships and network ties influence individual behavior. Give an example of positive peer pressure, such as peer influence that you’ve personally experienced (as the one who was influenced or the one who influenced someone else), or that you’ve seen first-hand, or from the news, TV, or from a film. Why do you think the person was influenced by the peer pressure?
  5. Are there specific types of groups that might have the most beneficial influence on an individual’s behavior (e.g., primary groups, secondary groups, in-groups, out-groups, reference groups)?
  6. After reading “Social Poverty and Relational Resources,” discuss one or two social factors that can lead to social poverty.
  7. Then, discuss one to two social policies or programs that might help to reduce social poverty. Note, the policies/programs you discuss should be collective strategies, such as policy solutions or community programs, rather than individual-level strategies.
  8. Finally, how do the three readings for today support the adage, “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know”?

Green Bay Packers Case Study

The Green Bay Packers (www.packers.com) have won thirteen National Football League Championships—more than any other team in the history of the NFL. The Packers won their first NFL Championship in 1929 and their most recent in 2010 (having won Super Bowl XLV). Green Bay also won the first two Super Bowls in 1966 and 1967 under legendary coach Vince Lombardi. Lombardi coached the Packers (1959–67) to five NFL Championships in seven years (1961–62 and 1965–67). His teams set the standard for football excellence, not only for the Green Bay Packers but for the entire NFL.

However, after Lombardi’s retirement from the Green Bay Packers in 1968, the Packers began a perennial losing streak. The word was out around the league—the Packers were a relic, and their fans lived in the past. Adults and kids wore Packer jerseys with No. 15 (Bart Starr) and No. 66 (Ray Nitscke), players of the Lombardi era, instead of those of current players. Other teams would threaten to ship their players to the Packers if they didn’t perform well. No one wanted to come to Green Bay. This was in stark contrast to the glory years of the 1960s in Green Bay, when it was known as “Title Town, USA.”

Bob Harlan, the Packers president, had had enough and decided it was time to make some changes. In 1991 he hired Ron Wolfe as executive vice president and general manager; Wolfe in turn hired Mike Holmgren as the Packers’ head coach in 1992. While the Packers had several problems, the cold weather being one, a major issue was that of diversity. Black players did not want to come to Green Bay. Wolfe and Holmgren understood that the black population in Green Bay was small, but they also realized that other black players in the past had enjoyed great careers with the Packers.

Their first order of business was to recruit a high-profile black player to the Green Bay Packers. The Packers accomplished this task by signing Reggie White of the Philadelphia Eagles, who had become a free agent after the 1992 season. Reggie White had star power and was an outstanding citizen and a leader among NFL players, respected by black players. His presence with the Packers sent a message that things were changing in Green Bay.

However, the signing of Reggie White alone would not change the culture in Green Bay for black players. It was common knowledge that if the Packers’ black players wanted a more active social life, they would need to travel to Milwaukee or Chicago. Milwaukee was two hours away by car, and Chicago four hours. Wolfe and Holmgren wanted to improve conditions for their black players and to make them more comfortable. They employed two simple strategies. First, a barber from Milwaukee was brought in once a week because no one in Green Bay specialized in styling African American hair. In addition, twice a week the Packers served foods that were customary to black culture. The players responded well to Wolfe’s and Holmgren’s strategies. The players appreciated the fact that the Packers were making an effort to understand their diverse culture and needs.

As the actions of the Packers were accepted by the black players and word began to spread around the league that Green Bay was a good situation, the whole attitude around the Packer organization became more positive. It also became easier to recruit and sign players in Green Bay. Players and coaches were more satisfied and focused on their work, and the weather didn’t seem so cold anymore. While these changes were small, the results were huge—the Packers and their fans were rewarded in 1996 when the team won Super Bowl XXXI and again in 2010 at Super Bowl XLV.

1. Why were Wolfe, Holmgren, and the Packer organization concerned with diversity?

2. Discuss the extent to which they accommodated diversity and activated that diversity.

Synthesis Paper Instructions

Reviewed April 13, 2018

The purposes of this assignment are to:

· Demonstrate proper use of current APA format in a term paper.

· Demonstrate proper use of one of the research methods studied in this course—specifically, the case study.

· Reflect on what you have learned in this course and write about it.

· Reflect on the course content as critiqued from a biblical, Christian perspective and write about it.

· Note: Thinking and reflecting on what you have learned will take a considerable amount of time. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for this assignment.

Instructions: Using a case study approach, write a four to eight page research-based paper using yourself as the research subject by answering the assigned research questions:

· What have you learned about research at an introductory level?

· How do you evaluate or critique this from a biblical, Christian perspective?

You will use the APA skills that you honed during Module/Week 3, the case study skills you developed in Module/Week 5, and all the content you studied throughout all the modules/weeks of this course. Current APA format needs to be demonstrated in all aspects of this assignment.

Your paper must include a properly-formatted title page, four to eight pages of content with correct APA formatting throughout, including proper citations and levels of headings, and a reference page. The title page and references page are in addition to the assigned four to eight pages of content. Maintain consistency between your citations and reference page. Your paper must include at least four references to sufficiently support your paper. Required references include your Introduction to Research textbook and the Publication Manual, and at least two additional scholarly references, plus whatever other content-related sources you would like to include. Remember, use current APA format throughout (including your title page, running head, author note, appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure, introductory statement, in-text citations, page numbers, levels of headings throughout the document, a conclusion statement, and consistency between your in-text citations and references).

You may use your Discussion Board Forum posts and additional personal reflection. Your answer will be unlike anyone else’s, and that is what is expected. Be sure to consult your Publication Manual for proper formatting for your in-text citations and references for these other sources.

Your assignment will be checked for plagiarism.

Note: Some matching on the SafeAssign report is not unexpected. You will be citing sources that others may have used in other papers, so some matches might appear. Your instructor will be able to discern what is appropriate matching due to properly cited sources. This assignment is open-book/open-notes, open-Bible, open to discussion with friends, etc. Be sure to document your sources appropriately as in-text citations and as references when you use the textbook or other material from this course, personal interviews with friends, etc.

This assignment requires that you incorporate proper APA formatting throughout the document. Formatting errors will result in point deductions.
