Building the Profession of Nursing

Building the Profession of Nursing

Write a 1000-1500 word APA paper addressing each of the following points. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. There should be two main sections, one for each bullet below. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least three (3) sources using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. The cover page and reference page in correct APA do not count towards the minimum word amount. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

  • Explore the history of nursing and choose two events/topics from history related to nursing (ie education, practices, important people, etc.) and explain each one in detail and why they are important to the nursing profession.
  • Research two professional nursing organizations and discuss the following for each organization chosen:
    • The name of the organization and why this organization is important to nursing
    • What resources they provide to members
    • Cost of membership and how many members are part of the organization
    • Current issues the organization is working on
    • Finally, after researching this question answer in detail: Why are Professional Organizations in general important to nursing as a profession?

30% of the total sales are concentrated during the Christmas period.

Main customers in 2019 were (under brackets central warehouse)

·  El Corte Inglés (Madrid):  5 Mio €

  • Carrefour (Paris): 3,5 Mio €
  • FNAC (Barcelona) : 3 Mio €
  • The rest are 9 wholesalers/distributors located in Bilbao (2), Valencia (2), Zaragoza, Sevilla, Oporto (Portugal), Vigo and Bordeaux (France).
All these customers bought less than 0,5 Mio € each.

There is also a huge potential customer (between 3 and 4 Mio € sales) located in Lisbon (Portugal). Big marketing and sales efforts have been made trying to catch this customer.

“We are the best” has 4 warehouses: Barcelona (located in the factory), Madrid, Sevilla and Zaragoza.

Inventory of all manufactured products (sizes) is available in all warehouses.

Additionally, they always have safety stock of at least 20 days average sales of all products in the central warehouse.

The delivery time agreed with customers are 4 labor days.

Total time for assembly is 2 days.

Factory works from Monday to Friday.

Organization is as follows.

Owner/Managing Director: Joan Soler

Sales and Marketing Manager: Sonia González

Manufacturing and Purchasing : Raúl López

Logistics manager (Transportation and Warehousing): Rafael González

Financial Manager: Pilar Gómez

They have a Board of Directors meeting once a month. Everyone explains improvement and results in their area. Raul and Rafael are very good friends. They work very closely. They think they shouldn´t need any sales department because “with only 3 main customers, Mr. Soler could take care of them”. “Why do we need marketing if there are no new customers to discover.?”

“We give a good service. There are no stockouts and customers are satisfied with our quality.”

Although “We are the best” is the only computer screens manufacturer located in Spain, their market share in the Spanish market is 18%. Their competitors are foreign Companies.
During last Board of Directors Sonia proposed she would like to work closely with Raúl and Rafael. She thought it would be a good idea to show to customers the assembly process as well the warehousing facilities.

Rafael and Raúl considered customers didn´t need to visit them. “You are responsible for customers. You take care of them and you deal prices with them. But this is not our business”.

By the other side, Pilar is really concerned because their cash needs are increasing and, as the working capital has been growing the last 3 years (mainly final products inventories), she has problems to fulfill the financial and cash requirements for running the daily activity.

Mr. Soler decided he should need a Managing Director with new ideas. Her older daughter, Marta, recently graduated at the EU Business School at Barcelona, took this position and  joined the Company 2 weeks ago and during his first Board of Directors, he said: “We must build an efficient supply chain organization, to improve our customer service and to increase profits”.

Sonia is really excited about this proposal but Raúl and Rafael consider things are running good enough. “The only thing we need to increase profits is to increase sales prices!!!! said Rafael”.

Marta Sole has appointed you to provide a report assessing the company situation She is requesting you to specifically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the supply chain, and determine the improvements to be applied. These are the main aspects  she wants to have  elucidated:

1.  Critical evaluation of the current marketing/sales strategy.

2.  Determine if manufactured components could be optimized, and, in such case, what actions would have to be taken, and what would be the resulting optimization.

3.  Analyze if the current supply range is optimal, and propose changes and/or improvements.

4.  Assess warehousing location and its appropriateness.

5.  Define pros and cons of the current transportation strategy and elaborate  recommendations.

6.  Is internal organization adapted to the main objective stated by M. Sole: “We must build an efficient supply chain organization, to improve our customer service and to increase profits”.  Critically discuss this point.

7.  Provide a summary of the main actions to be undertaking to achieve M. Sole strategic objective.

8.  Define KPI´s for tracking the efficiency of the Supply Chain

Formalities:

Topic: The international system— fact, fiction, or made-up-stuff?

Prompt: Begin developing an informed opinion on how states behave as a system and which theory, if any, you believe best describes the system. The chapter approaches the nature of the system based on 1) how it is structured in terms of polarities and levels of power (see figures 4.1 and 4.2), and 2) how examples of changes in the system are used by competing theorists as evidence demonstrating the superiority of their claims. In other words, competing system theorists justify their truth claims about the nature of the system by arguing that they can explain change (or history) better than rival theorists (i.e., end of chapter text box, “Theory in Brief, Contending Perspectives on the International System.”)

Given competing explanations of the system, answer the following prompts in any manner you choose, integrated or separately:

  • What are the fundamental strengths and weakness of polarity as a tool of explanation for how the international system works? (Remember the Waltz MACAT video in Module 1?) Based on the history of IR since Westphalia, is some kind of polar structure a permanent feature of the international system, or does this feature seem merely contingent? Explain.
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of the system theories discussed in the chapter —realism, liberalism, and constructivism? In other words, what kind of evidence makes each theory more or less plausible?
  • Finally, Christianity arguably offers a ‘unit level’ explanation for (bad) collective behavior based upon the multiplier effect of individual sin. Briefly comment on whether ‘sin’ theory explains the behavior of the system and its parts as well as rival theories?

You are the intern for the mayor. There is a large statue of a confederate general on a horse, sword held high, In the center of a roundabout on the main road into town. Off to the side is a confederate cemetery. The general marked the entrance to what used to be a private cemetery. The property changed hands over the years and now belongs to the cities historical park. The upkeep of the general and the gravestones is paid for mostly by tax payer dollars. A white resident of the city is complaining. She says she is offended by the cemetery and general every time she drives by. She also does not want her taxpayer dollars paying for the statue. She wants the mayor to take it down. You are the mayor’s intern, and the general is turning into your problem. He does not want to take the statue down. It is a big tourist draw for the town. The neighboring towns even bring their school kids by. He would like to just ignore her. If that does not work, maybe the sword could be easily made into a cross with another piece of metal. You’re the intern. Write the mayor a memo that considers any legal problems as well as advantages and disadvantages of having the general. There is overwhelming support for the general to remain.

. Second option. You have moved up in the world. You are now the governor’s intern! The governors are having a weeklong retreat to consider problems from the 2016 election, when the winner of the popular vote did not win the electoral college. The governor needs to golf and go to a big opening dinner. You are being sent home, but he wants you to do a memo on the advantages and disadvantages of abolishing the electoral college. He is not too sure what it is or how/why it developed. Does the state have control over the electoral colleges? He thinks it is mostly run by the political parties. You live in a smaller state in northern fly over country. Money is pouring in because it is a battleground state! Voting in the state is relatively fair, but he is not sure every vote is or can even be counted. He is not too sure he wants to rock any boats, and your state has many of those!

SOCW 6311 & 6070 Wk 5 Discussions

Discussion 1: Qualitative Findings and Social Work Interventions

Evidence-based social work practice calls for the use of research data to guide the development of social work interventions on the micro, mezzo and/or macro-levels. Kearney (2001) described ways qualitative research findings can inform practice. Qualitative findings can help social workers understand the clients’ experiences and “what it may feel like” (Kearney, 2001). Therefore, social workers can develop clinical interventions that take into account the experiences of their clients. Qualitative findings can also help social workers monitor their clients. For example, if after reading a qualitative study on how domestic violence survivors respond to stress, they can monitor for specific stress behaviors and symptoms (Kearney, 2001). In addition, they can educate their client what stress behaviors to look for and teach them specific interventions to reduce stress (Kearney, 2001)

Given the increasing diversity that characterizes the landscape in the United States, social workers need to take into account culture when formulating interventions. Social workers can utilize qualitative findings to plan interventions in a culturally meaningful manner for the client.

To prepare for this Discussion, read Knight et al.’s (2014) study from this week’s required resources. Carefully review the findings, the photographs, and how the researchers wrote up the findings. Finally, review the specific macro-, meso-, and micro-oriented recommendations.

Then read Marsigilia and Booth’s article about how to adapt interventions so that they are culturally relevant and sensitive to the population the intervention is designed for. Finally, review the chapter written by Lee et al. on conducting research in racial and ethnic minority communities.

Kearney, M. (2001). Levels and applications of qualitative research evidence. Research in Nursing and Health, 24, 145–153.

Post the following:

1. Using one of the direct quotes and/or photos from Knight et al.’s study, analyze it by drawing up a tentative meaning. Discuss how this would specifically inform one intervention recommendation you would make for social work practice with the homeless. This recommendation can be on the micro, meso, or macro level.

2. Next, explain how you would adapt the above practice recommendation that you identified so that it is culturally sensitive and relevant for African Americans, Hispanics, or Asian immigrants. (Select only 1 group). Apply one of the cultural adaptations that Marsigilia and Booth reviewed (i.e., content adaption to include surface and/or deep culture, cognitive adaptations, affective-motivational adaptations, etc.)(pp. 424-426). Be as specific as you can, using citations to support your ideas.

Discussion 2: Addressing Change

What does a leader do when things do not go as planned? How can a leader help to restore or improve an organization’s operations when a situation stalls or interferes with its functions? Although taking a proactive approach to planning is desired, change may occur suddenly and unexpectedly causing immediate consequences. A skilled leader must be able to assess a situation in order to prioritize the steps necessary to stabilize the organization. This process must focus on a short-term strategy to address immediate concerns and include strategic decisions that will affect the long-term sustainability of the organization.

For this Discussion, you address the Southeast Planning Group (SPG) case study in the Social Work Case Studies: Concentration Year text.

· Post an analysis of the change that took place in the SPG.

· Furthermore, suggest one strategy that might improve the organizational climate and return the organization to optimal functioning.

· Provide support for your suggested strategy, explaining why it would be effective.

Working With Organizations: The Southeast Planning Group

The Southeast Planning Group (SPG) is an organization that was created in 2000 to facilitate the Office of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Continuum of Care planning process. The key elements of the approach were strategic planning, data collection systems, and an inclusive process that involved clients and service providers. The fundamental components of the system are 1) outreach, intake, and assessment; 2) emergency shelter; 3) transitional housing; and 4) permanent housing and permanent supportive housing. The outreach, intake, and assessment component identifies an individual’s or family’s needs in order to connect them with the appropriate resources. Emergency shelter provides a safe alternative to living on the streets. Transitional housing provides supportive services such as recovery services and life skills training to help clients develop the skills necessary for permanent housing. The final component, permanent housing, works with clients to obtain long-term affordable housing.

SPG works with the local government; service providers; the faith, academic, and business communities; homeless and formerly homeless individuals; and concerned citizens in the designated service area. During the first 5 years of its existence, SPG was staffed by one part-time and four full-time staff members and oversight was provided by a 21-member board. SPG’s founding director was well respected and liked in the community. She was noted for her ability to bring stakeholders together across sectors and focus on the single mission of ending homelessness.

After serving 5 years as the executive director, she abruptly resigned amidst rumors that she was forced out by the board. Although she had been effective in bringing people together, there were concerns that the goals and objectives had not been met, and there was a lack of confidence in her ability to grow the organization. Approximately one month after her resignation, a new executive director was hired.

One of the new director’s first priorities was to reconfigure the structure of the organization in order to increase efficiency. As a result of the restructuring, two positions were eliminated. The people who were let go had been with the organization since it was created, and similar to the previous director, they had strong ties to the community. Once the community and SPG’s partners learned about the changes, there was suspicion about the new leadership and the direction they wanted to take the organization. Stakeholders were split in their views of the changes—some agreed that they were necessary in order to advance the goals of the organization, while others felt the new leadership was “taking over” with a hidden agenda to promote its own self-interest.

I worked with the group as an evaluation consultant to assess the SPG partnership during this period of transition. In order to assess how these changes were perceived by the stakeholders, I conducted key informant interviews with various stakeholders, both internal and external to the organization. The partners shared many insights about how the month without consistent leadership contributed to the uncertainty about SPG’s purpose and strategy, and it was generally agreed that the leadership transition was not handled well. The results from the evaluation were used to help SPG identify strategies to improve communication with stakeholders and utilize the director’s leadership role to build upon the organization’s past successes while preparing for future growth.

The question  that follows will be reviewed for quality of content, correct spelling  and grammar.   Why do you want to be a law enforcement officer?

Your response to the question that follows will be evaluated for  both  quality of response and accurate grammar/spelling. There is no  right or  wrong answer.  You are a law enforcement officer. You are  stationed at an intersection  within our city that is known to have a  large number of serious  accidents due to motorists running the red  light. You observe a vehicle  run the red light and initiate a traffic  stop. Upon approaching the  vehicle you observe a driver, a crying  toddler in a car seat and a large  number of grocery bags. You advise  the driver why they have been pulled  over. The driver quickly  apologizes and states that they were  distracted by the crying child.  Upon conducting a driver’s license check  you are advised the driver had  an arrest in 1998 for “driving under the  influence” and a ticket for  running a red light in 2012. Describe how you would handle this  situation.

Your response to the question that follows will be evaluated for both  quality of response and accurate grammar/spelling.   Why do you want to  serve the City of Coral Springs as a Law Enforcement Officer?

Reply 3

This article states that people of color have a high death rate in the state of Texas.  The high death rate could be due to lower income, the lack of access to health care, and preexisting conditions.  Many people of color work in jobs that are more exposed to the virus and few work from home which is considered safer during the pandemic.  Much of the deaths are tied to poverty and high populated areas.  Hidalgo county, near the border of Mexico, was hit the hardest by the coronavirus.  Delays in insurance and death certificates were the cause for the count being very high early on but they have since recalculated the number to 312 deaths due to the virus.  The gulf of Texas was also hit hard with COVID-19.  Hindsight being 20/20, we should have been tracking how to recover from the virus rather than focusing on the death toll so much.

“In 2016 an estimated 15 percent of Texans were uninsured, the highest percentage of any state and much higher than the 10 percent figure for the U.S. population as a whole” (Champagne 426).  Our united states government has discussed ways to make health care available to all citizens.  There are contrasted opinions amongst politicians and citizens on how it should be provided and to what extent.  Another question that weighs on our government is: Should health care be a mandatory investment on each person?  If the insurance is not affordable to a citizen due to poverty, then someone must pay for it in this scenario.  During covid 19, I am sure that the government’s concern for lack of health insurance amongst the poor amplified across Texas.  The situation in the article is logically consistent with our textbook.  The government has had a concern with the lack of insurance and in the article, people died because of the lack of health care amongst the poorer U.S. citizens.

“Rural communities may be more vulnerable to disease outbreaks as they often exhibit high poverty rates and older populations with increased prevalence of comorbidities” (Holder, Katherine et al.) Comorbidities is the presence of two or more underlying conditions in one person.  Holder states that increased inflammation from covid 19 also exasperates the underlying conditions which can cause death quickly in the patient.  The author in this article is consistent with the first article and addresses the people that suffered with covid and due to their previous health concerns.

I helplessly watched my husband suffer through the virus along with Pneumonia in January.  He does not have underlying health conditions that we are aware of and yet this virus was very scary.  I scoured the internet on natural ways to add to the routine of the medications that the medical doctors provided to him.  A lot of Mexican tea that consisted of garlic, rosemary, eucalyptus, and lemon was added to the routine along with me having my husband do as much walking as possible.  More than anything, we prayed for God’s help.  About 5 days of worry, my husband began to improve tremendously.  As mentioned in the first article, I wish that people would have tracked the ways they recovered more than counting the overwhelming number of deaths during 2020, causing people to panic more than search for potential hope.
