4.5 Activity: Writing Commons – Information Literacy & Research

How much information do you interact with on a daily basis? How much information do you have access to at your fingertips right now? More than you can imagine! There is no way you will ever be able to learn every bit of information that is out there; that is why information literacy and research are critical skills as a writer and a learner. They overlap in some ways, but Writing Commons addresses them separately. In this week’s activity, you will explore each of them further.

Upon successful completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  • Describe information literacy and research as key elements of writing.

Background Information

This Writing Commons activity is a post on the discussion board. Responses to your classmates are not required but take some time to read through the ideas they have posted and comment as you are inspired to do so. You can extend your own learning in this way.

Instructions

  1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
  2. Read the pages on Information Literacy(new tab) and Research(new tab) in Writing Commons. (The order in which you read them is up to you.)
  3. After you have read the Research page, write how research, as described in Writing Commons, relates to the problem-based learning model in the DBA. (200-250 words)
  4. After you have read the Information Literacy page, go back to the quote from the Alexandria Proclamation and the list of core competencies. Why would these competencies be considered a basic human right? Write a response in 200-250 words.
  5. Post your two responses as your initial post to the discussion board by the end of the workshop.
  6. No responses to classmates are required, but you will extend your learning by reading your classmates’ posts. You are welcome to comment and engage in discussions if they emerge.

Project Part 2: Risk Assessment Plan

This project is divided into several parts, each with a deliverable. The first four parts are drafts. These documents should resemble business reports in that they are organized by headings, include source citations (if any), be readable, and be free from typos and grammatical errors. However, they are not final, polished reports. Please see attached.

Project Part 2: Risk Assessment Plan

After creating an initial draft of the risk management plan, the next step is to create a draft of the risk assessment plan. For this part of the project:

  1. Research risk assessment approaches.
  2. Create an outline for a basic qualitative risk assessment plan.
  3. Write an introduction to the plan explaining its purpose and importance.
  4. Define the scope and boundaries for the risk assessment.
  5. Identify data center assets and activities to be assessed.
  6. Identify relevant threats and vulnerabilities. Include those listed in the scenario and add to the list if needed.
  7. Identify relevant types of controls to be assessed.
  8. Identify the key roles and responsibilities of individuals and departments within the organization as they pertain to risk assessments.
  9. Develop a proposed schedule for the risk assessment process.
  10. Complete the draft risk assessment plan detailing the information above. Risk assessment plans often include tables, but you choose the best format to present the material. Format the bulk of the plan similar to a professional business report and cite any sources you used.

Submission Requirements

  • Format: Microsoft Word (or compatible)
  • Font: Arial, size 12, double-space
  • Citation style: Your school’s preferred style guide
  • Estimated length: 4–6 pages

  • Part 1 – Post your initial response to the discussion questions by Wednesday at 11:59 pm
  • Part 2 – Post substantive feedback to two (2) classmates by Saturday at 11:59 pm

Read the story. You may research further on the internet to get background information.http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/mother-armed-14-year-old-killed-bronx-speaks-article-1.1417895In the past week New York City police officers tragically shot and killed a 14 year-old who was armed with a gun and using it. This week I want you to review his background via the enclosed link and any other credible information. I want you to diagnose the problem with the juvenile. In your estimation did he need treatment or punishment?  What treatment would you recommend? Based on your answers are you more along the lines of the classical school or the positivist school? Explain to other posts why you would agree or disagree with their opinion. What did they notice that you missed? TO BLAME THE POLICE OFFICER WHO NOW HAS TO LIVE WITH THE EVENT WOULD NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND WOULD BE WRONG.

“Assignment 3: Healthcare Quality”

Use technology and information resources to research issues in healthcare policy, law, and ethics.
Write clearly and concisely about healthcare policy and law using proper writing mechanics.

Describe the difference between a nursing practice problem and a medical practice problem. Provide one example of each. Discuss why is it important to ensure your PICOT is based on a nursing practice problem.

Although nursing practice problems and medical practice problems are related in that they are used for medicine, there are differences between the two. A nursing practice problem is an issue encountered during nursing practice, such as during a patient assessment, related to the patient’s response to a health problem they are experiencing. There are numerous considerations to the nursing practice problems (Fuller, 1982). This ranges from the patient’s signs and symptoms to an illness to their difficulties in completing the activities of daily living due to a fractured extremity. This is due to nursing care involves the entire individual, family or community. Fuller, (1982) states that nursing practice problems, “…deal with modalities of patient care such as support, comfort, prevention of trauma, promotion of recovery, health screening, appraisal and/or assessment, health education, and coordination of health care.”

A medical practice problem is concerned with a medical condition or disease. It identifies a condition, searches for causes, establishes a prognosis, and prescribes a treatment for the condition (Chiffi & Zanotti, 2015).

Chiffi and Zanotti (2015) state, “In conclusion, medical and nursing diagnoses have different goals: a medical diagnosis identifies a variation from a norm, while a nursing diagnosis should judge the existence of a potential for enhancing self-care.”

Consider a patient with a fractured wrist. The physician will set the fracture and prescribe pain medication. These are examples of medical practice problems. The nurse will review the aftercare and medication instructions with the patient. The nurse will also review care of the splint and possibly arrange a visiting RN to help with activities of daily living.

The PICOT question is the first step in establishing or improving evidence-based practice with the goal of solving problems with patients. “Nurses use EBP to provide patients with safe, quality care and to improve outcomes” (Helbig, 2018). The PICOT is based on a nursing practice problem because it is designed to improve patient care. An example of using PICOT for evidence-based practice would be studying the frequency of oral care with the goal of reducing the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonias. It is not designed for disease research.

Process Mapping of a Quality Improvement Initiative

Process Mapping: Students are required to research an existing health care organization of their choice. In your research you should identify a quality improvement (QI) initiative that will improve the way patient care is delivered at the facility. The QI can be the result of organizational need, accreditation standards, and/or regulatory requirements.

Instructions: Clearly state the specific QI objective. Provide a brief description articulating why the QI is important and how the quality of patient care will be improved as a result of the QI. In addition, identify an executive, team lead, and staff member as the stakeholders who are responsible for the implementation of the QI and explain what roles they play in the implementation of the objective. It will be necessary to generate a flow chart that specifically emphasizes the steps necessary for implementing the QI as well as the position that is most appropriate for performing the tasks and exact duties of the step.

Formatting:

  • Title Page
  • 1 page (double spaced) Page should include QI objective and description.
  • 1 page Page should include the flow chart illustrating the required steps necessary to implement the QI.
  • Reference Page (2 references minimum)
  • Written document should conform to American Psychological Association (APA) 6thEdition

Module 4 Discussion Post 2

  • Read the initial and secondary comments posted by your classmates and reflect upon them.
  • Directly respond to at least one classmate in a way that extends meaningful discussions, adds new information, and/or offers alternative perspectives.

The United States health care system underwent massive changes with the introduction of ACA in 2010. These changes have ensured that some U.S. healthcare delivery features have remained stable (Shi & Sign, 2017). However, the dynamics of health care means that changes have to occur to ensure the needs of the consumers are met at all times. Various recommendations have been put in place to ensure that the challenges are mitigated and the needs of the consumers are met. Technology will play an essential role in ensuring access and mitigating the issue of costs.

Telehealth or telemedicine is defined as electronic communication to exchange medical information to improve patients’ health (Reed et al., 2017). Telehealth uses technologies like computers and mobile technologies to access patient information remotely. Through telehealth, the physician can interact with the patient remotely, consult with the patient, and monitor the patient. This improves access and mitigates costs, which has been a significant challenge in health care delivery. It is estimated that 60% of health care institutions currently use some form of telehealth (Reed et al., 2017).

Shifting the payment method would help in improving health care delivery in the United States. This means a shift from payment for services to value-based care (Julia et al., 2016). Value-based care is a health care model where the providers are paid based on health outcomes. The model ensures the quality of services and improved patient outcomes. The providers are rewarded based on improving the health of the patient. The model would improve health care delivery as the patient benefits from low costs and better. The providers benefit from higher patient satisfaction.
