ACCT326 Course Project (Technology Project)

Assume you are the owner of a small CPA practice in a major metropolitan area. You have desires to expand the practice to recommend AIS products to your customers. You have found your first new client who is interested in moving to a new AIS. The client, uTopia Homeowner Association (UHA) is a growing homeowners’ association (HOA) consisting of 3,500 homeowners. They are in the process of acquiring four other homeowner associations within the next 30 days. This acquisition will increase the number of homeowners to 7,500. uTopia is currently using an accounting information system that will no longer be supported by the vendor; therefore, they must find a new system. Currently, two of the HOAs that uTopia is acquiring are either Sage and QuickBooks, while the others are using systems that uTopia has no knowledge of. Per this, uTopia wants to move to a single system. They have no preference regarding Sage or QuickBooks, but they will defer to your judgment for the best option.

As the owner of the CPA firm, you are excited by this opportunity because it is a way to expand your practice. As a result of this opportunity, you have asked your lead CPA to develop a proposal for uTopia. You have given your resources four weeks to complete this assignment. Listed below are the core requirements of the new AIS for uTopia (after their acquisition):

Billing (Invoicing): Each month, the system will generate an itemized bill for each homeowner. The fees will vary from $100 to $200 per month, based upon the location of each home, and the type of home (townhouse or single-family homes). Late fees are 20 percent per month of the unpaid balance. The bills are mailed on the 20th of each month and payment is due by the 10th of the following month.

Collections (Receipts): Payments can be made in person (at the HOA main office); via mail (via a PO Box); or electronically. Payments will be deposited into the client’s account.

Payments (Checks): It is expected that the system will generate a minimum of 400 / payments each month. These payments will cover a variety of services, such as expenses for office supplies; rent; utilities; landscaping; and trash/snow removal. The firm will rely on electronic payments; thus no paper checks.

Payroll (Payroll): It is expecting that the client will have roughly 100 full-time employees and 150 part-time employees. Employees will be paid on a bi-weekly basis via direct deposit. Payroll will be outsourced to ADP (www.adp.com)

Required: Using the methodology developed in this course, document and illustrate the system from an automated function viewpoint. As part of your documentation, you will need to identify the specific system requirements in the areas of inputs, outputs, and controls for each of the service areas.

Paper Layout

Section I – Introduction: In this section, you will provide a narrative regarding the current business problem and how automation may or may not address the problem (2 pages double-spaced or 1 page single-spaced).

Section II – System Requirements: In this section, you will document the specific requirements (input, output, & control) as required for each of the respective functions (billing, collections, payments, & payroll). In order to complete this, you will need to identify the following:

• A general description of the process and the necessary data you would need to collect in order to process transactions for the function in question (INPUTS).

• A description of the information, including data that will need to generate when processing transactions (OUTPUTS).

• A listing of key controls that needs to be implemented to support & secure the function (CONTROLS).

This will be your longest section. You can expect to exceed 2 pages double-spaced or 1 page single-spaced for system requirement (e.g., billing, collections).

Section III – Outsourcing Considerations: In this section, you will identify functions, besides payroll, that may be prime candidates for outsourcing. For those functions that are selected for outsourcing, you will need to explain why they are; the possible benefits; and potential concerns. (2 pages double-spaced or 1 page single-spaced).

Section IV – System Selection: In this section, you will recommend a PC-based accounting system to support your new system. In developing your recommendation, start with a general overview of the systems. Next, you will discuss the system’s relative strengths & weaknesses, and why you are recommending it. Also, you will recommend a migration plan (direct cutover migration, parallel migration, or a pilot/phase migration) for implementing the solution.  This will be your second-longest section. You can expect to exceed 2 pages double-spaced or 1 page single-spaced. Information from Assignment #2 will be helpful to you as you complete this section.

Part V (Impact of Technology): Discuss how advances in technology, such as robotic processing automation (RPA), blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), or data analytics may be used in conjunction with your recommended AIS. Be sure that you clearly identify the technologies being recommended (2 pages double-spaced or 1 page single-spaced).

Section VI –Challenges to Automation: In this section, you will identify and discuss at least three challenges to migrate to a new automated system (2 pages double-spaced or 1 page single-spaced).

Paper Guidelines

Page Length: Your response will exceed our normal eight pages (double-spaced) or four pages (single-spaced) length as we used for Assignment #1 – #4. No Cover Page or Title Page is needed (however, you must include the title of your assignment as a heading on the first page. Note that the reference page and appendix, if provided are excluded from the page count.

References: You will need to include at least eight literary references and at least eight in-text citations to support your paper. These references must be related directly to the topics covered in the paper. References & citations must be properly formatted as noted below.

Headings: You will need to use headings (short, brief, and centered) to separate each area of your paper. Your headings should have an appropriate title such as Need for Outsourcing instead of Part III

Margins & Font Sizes: Use standard margins (minimum .5″; maximum 1.5″) and standard font size (minimum 10 point; maximum 12 point) in your paper.

Writing Style: APA7 is the preferred writing style.

Discussion question response Must respond to discussion question. Rationales must be provided for the response(s)50-word minimum/100-word maximum without the reference(s). Minimum of one reference (the course textbook can be a reference), APA format.

Discussion Question :

Cultural Diversity and the Public Health

In the healthcare system, nurses are expected to encounter patients from different cultural backgrounds. Evidence shows that some cultures such as Cuban- Americans have the tendency to combine Western medicine with some rituals and herbs to aid in the healing process (Cultural diversity, 2021). Roman Catholic women are not allowed by the Church to have fertility treatments or abortions. Chinese people can consider direct eye contact as inappropriate and disrespectful (Cultural diversity, 2021). It is a great challenge for public health because each culture has a different medical approach, illness perspectives, and behavior patterns.

Cultural competence encourages nurses to be aware of their own biases and prejudices; therefore, it allows them to treat patients with dignity and respect regardless of their background. According to Desmond (2016), this approach eliminates disparities among the different cultures and helps nurses to interact effectively with patients. Many factors should be considered, for example, the immigrant population may speak a foreign language, thus nurses must provide them with a professional interpreter service. When providing care to homeless individuals, medical workers need to avoid making assumptions or approaching them in a judgmental way (Cultural diversity, 2021). An exhaustive family assessment and active listening are the most useful tool for nurses to develop a trusting relationship with patients. The acceptance of cultural diversity is an important key in public health to develop patient-centered care and to involve the patient’s family in the decision-making process (Desmond, 2016).

Assignment: Data Collection and Analysis

Effective leaders use data to guide them through decision making, setting goals, and monitoring progress. Data are also used for evaluating programs for effectiveness, enhancing curriculum, and improving teaching and learning. Collaboratively, members of the organization review and analyze data to identify the next appropriate challenge. Through the collection of data, both teachers and leaders have a clear understanding of where they are, where they want to be, and how to get there. For this Assignment, you will complete Part 2 of your Course Project, collecting program and district data that will benefit the program evaluation meeting.

To prepare:

  • Review elements of “Focusing Direction” in Chapter 2 as you reflect on the challenge identified in Module 1.
  • Collect program and district data from your setting.
  • Identify pertinent stakeholders that will assist you with driving whole systems change.

By Day 7 of Week 3

Part 2: Data Gathering

Create a PowerPoint presentation to present at your meeting, displaying tables, charts, or graphs to represent the program and district data that you collected for use during the team meeting. Provide an analysis of the data collected. Note: There are two sections for Part 2: creating a PowerPoint and writing a 2- to 3-page analysis.

Create an 8- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation that includes the following:

  • Demographics (student population, percentage of students with exceptionalities, ethnicity, etc.); assessment scores; retention rates; and placement data (special education programs)
  • District strategic plan and/or program goals. If your program does not have any goals or plans, list key topics/quality indicators to discuss with the stakeholders that would help drive your discussions on program effectiveness.

**Attach your PowerPoint as Appendix B.

Write a 2- to 3-page analysis of the data that includes the following:

  • An analysis of the data collected, including strengths, needs, and trends.
  • An explanation of how you will address each of Fullan’s four elements for focusing direction: purpose-driven, goals that impact, clarity of strategy, and change leadership during the course of this project.

10 Page Project Paper (Instructions, Rubrics, Myers Brig Assessment attached)

The Sample composition should be as follows…For each of the aforementioned parts, use the assessment results to write at least 1 full paragraph for each bullet point pertaining to the things you have learned about yourself. There is a lot to cover in each of these sections, so focus on the most significant things you have learned about yourself from each area. Use headings for each section, as in “Part I: Personality Insights,” etc. so that there are subheadings per the bulleted areas for each Part. Provide your statistical/percentage results for a comparison of letters within your discussion. Any adverse personal opinions on the assessment tools must be respectful and scholarly with supportive research.

STEP 1

Abstract

Part 1

Personality Insights

  • ·  Big Five with Myers-Briggs
  • ·  Attitude and Core Values Insights
  • ·  Motivation Insights
  • ·  Decision Making/Problem Solving Insights

Part II

Working With Others

  • •  Communication Competency and Listening Style
  • •  Leadership Readiness and Team Insights
  • •  Conflict Tendencies/Style

Part III

Life in Organizations

  • · Organizational Politics
  • · Organizational Needs-Employee Satisfaction, Job Fit, Core Skills
  • Organizational Change and Climate

STEP 2

In a new section in your paper (labeled Step 2), answer the following questions with specific correlation to the assessment. To do so, provide a separate paragraph for each of the following questions:

  • · In general, what have you learned from these personality tests about organizational behavior that will help you be a better employee, coworker, and/or manager?
  • · In particular, what have you learned about yourself from this personality test that will help you be a better employee, coworker, and/or manager? Provide specific examples.

STEP 3

  1. Read the “The Gospel and Personal Reflection” article located in the Module/Week 5 Reading & Study folder and respond to the question found below.
  2. The assessments help us label our strengths and their corresponding weaknesses. Therefore, it would be easy to simply accept the fact that we have weaknesses. After all, “No one is perfect,” we say. On the other hand, the assigned article points out that God through the Holy Spirit continues to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ.

For step 3, explain how the Holy Spirit has worked in your life to transform your weaknesses into strengths. See II Corinthians 12:7–10 as a scriptural example of this paradoxical truth. Be specific with your example(s) and faith integration.

NOTE: It is understood that not all of our students are Christians. If that is your situation, read the assigned article and Bible verses and ponder the relevance of the ideas found in both. Refer to ideas from the article as you complete this step, and consider how your own personality weaknesses have been or can be transformed into personality strengths.

Sampling in Action

Due: Sunday night at 11:59pm Mountain Time

In this assignment, you will create a presentation that reflects on your proposed problem of interest and evaluates sampling techniques that would create a meaningful study pertaining to this problem.

Step 1: Reflect on your proposed research question or problem of interest.

Step 2: Consider different sampling techniques.

Think about how you would compare and contrast the following sampling techniques:

  • Simple Random Sample
  • Stratified Random Sample
  • Cluster Random Sample
  • Systematic Random Sample

Consider which of these sampling techniques you might employ for your research study. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Step 3: Consider who your audience might be if you were to deliver your presentation in person.

  • What would you want them to know about this topic?
  • What would you expect them to already know?

Step 4: Create a 10- to 12-slide presentation that that evaluates and briefly summarizes the various sampling techniques listed in Step 2. Describe the sampling technique(s) you will use in your research and explain how your choice of sampling technique(s) will help you to create a meaningful study cohort.

Address the following questions in your presentation:

  • Who/what will your proposed sample consist of?
  • How will subjects be recruited?
  • Are there any special considerations about your population of interest that might pose barriers to obtaining a sample?
  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of the sampling method(s) you plan to use?
  • What potentials for error and bias related to sampling exist?

Step 5: Review your presentation to ensure that you are using best practices for formatting slides.

  • Include a title screen and summary screen.
  • Avoid making slides too text heavy or dense with text. As a guideline, limit text on each slide to five bullet points of six words each.
  • If using graphics, be sure that they are professional, reinforce your points, and are not used merely for decoration.
  • Be sure to add what you would say if delivering the presentation to a live audience in the notes section of each slide.

Make sure that the format of your presentation is professional and visually attractive. Cite any sources in APA format.

  • Reflect upon what you have learned throughout your coursework related to ethical issues in education, and discuss the fundamental manner in which your ideas, values, beliefs, practices, etc. have or have not changed as a result.
  • Examine how your coursework in the M.Ed. program and your work experience have helped you to grow in the areas of ethics and diversity and how you have used or will use these competencies in your current or future position.
  • Attach one to three pieces of your chosen previous assignments as artifacts to demonstrate your competencies in the areas of ethics and diversity. Identify the ID and title (for example: EDU599 – Education Capstone) of the courses for which you had produced the assignments.
  • If you do not have an artifact, attach the descriptions of your chosen previous assignments (This will become your artifact submission). Artifacts do not count as part of the one to two page length requirement.

w 7 6238 Discussion 1 Response

For this discussion I am being asked to give a brief description of two examples when you encountered barriers to problem solving. Then explain the steps you took to overcome the barriers in each example, and explain strategies to enhance problem-solving skills.

My first example of a time when I encountered a barrier to problem solving would be when trying to make the most intelligent decision when pertaining to my auto repairs for my SUV. The main barrier to problem solving for myself would be directly related to the fact that I do not have knowledge or expertise in automotive repair. When faced with two different conflicting opinions from two different auto motive shops I realize I really don’t have the ability to make wise decisions about my auto repairs.  I have what I believe to be “free-will” to choose which repairs , which shop, and what price I plan to pay based off of research that I have found off of the internet. However, I found that I don’t even know enough about the repairs or the engine of my SUV to even exert my free will in problem solving to make wise decisions about auto repairs. This is when I found that the best strategy for this form of problem solving that I personally have at my disposal is based in implicit assumptions ; what is basically understood through the information I have available in regards to auto repairs and reputable skilled mechanics to do the repairs that I need. This concept is solidified in our required readings, such as “A thorough analysis of the question of whether we possess “free will” requires that we take into account the process of exercising that will: that is, the neural mechanisms of decision making. Much of what we know about these mechanisms indicates that decision making is greatly influenced by implicit processes that may not even reach consciousness.” (Burns,2007). Although, there can be other factors that impair our ablility to problem solve or rather to make decisions from free will such as “there exist conditions, for example certain types of brain injury or drug addiction, in which an individual can be said to have a disorder of the will.” (Burns, 2007).

Another example of a barrier that I have experienced in relation to problem solving would be when selecting a school and program that I would like to set an intention to attend a PSYD or PHD program in psychology in the future. Based off of my academic history, my experiences in applying for both my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s program, and the information gathered from the program departments in several schools and other students attending the programs. One barrier to this form of problem solving is that the intention is rarely a straight forward motion as explained in our required reading’s  as ; “A fundamental assumption of theories of decision making is that intentions and outcomes form a tight loop (1). The ability to monitor and to compare the outcome of our choices with prior intentions and goals is seen to be critical for adaptive behavior (2-4). This type of cognitive control has been studied extensively, and it has been proposed that intentions work by way of forward models (5) that enable us to simulate the feedback from our choices and actions even before we execute them (6, 7)” (Johansson, 2005). The strategy I plan to take to this barrier is to recognize that maybe I don’t get my first choice of programs/ school, or maybe I don’t get to work on the research projects I would be the most passionate about as a student but maybe I can gain the experience and endurance that I will need for my future career projects, in other words… maybe I will end up getting into the program that is most fitting to my personal needs rather than what I think  I intend as stated in our required reading as “the world is in many ways a forgiving place in which to implement our decisions. Mismatches between intention and outcome are surely possible, but when we reach for a bottle of beer, we very seldomly end up with a glass of milk in our hands.”. (Johansson, 2005).

discussion3 world culture

Click video above or  here to play video

Each week we will be looking at a set period from our past.  Although these are our ancestors, it will seem like we are studying a distant planet, inhabited by people with the strangest of habits.  Fortunately, these subjects of our observation give us abundant clues about who they are.  Their art, their writing, their technology, the way they do business, the way they govern
themselves all feed into a picture we will attempt to paint for ourselves each week.  Understanding who they were will help us understand who we are.

Each week you will be given three or four questions pertaining to important topics covered in the materials provided in the question itself, the textbook, the lectures, the other materials provided, and my comments in my Live Session. You choose the one question you like and post a response of 125 words or more.  You also need to respond to another post from one of your fellow students.  This second post should be at least 60 or so words long and should not just agree with or repeat what has been said.

Please always use an example that has not already been used in the discussion.

  • European monarchs followed the example of Louis XIV and one of them is well described in your book, Frederick William of Prussia aka Frederick the Great.  What does  his palace Sans Souci  and what we know about him personally, tell us about the way he saw his world and promoted his power? Frederick the Great was an aggressive monarch who built his kingdom into what would become the German nation.
  • Your book makes the point that, in many ways, Classical music is a reaction against the Rococo and its wild exuberance.  Why did symphonic orchestras form at this time?  What composers used this form to express a new world view?  How does Classical music reflect Enlightenment thinking?
  • The ancient artwork traditions of China and Japan began to enter the European world as European trade became a huge business and cultural exchange.  Europe fell in love with what came to be known as chinoiserie. The reality is that China was an ancient and quite advanced civilization, scientifically far ahead of the West in many ways.  What Europeans saw as exotic artifacts from a mysterious land reflected the many cultural traditions that melded to form Chinese culture in the 18th Century. What are some examples of  chinoiserie and other artifacts of Asian culture that became so popular in Western Europe?  Why were Europeans so enthusiastic about anything Asian?  Why do you think Europeans were so arrogant about their self-conceived superiority?
  • Chapter 26 covers both the American and French Revolutions.  Both proclaim liberty for all but America built slavery into its most important founding document and the French kept the Haitians enslaved until they too fought to free themselves.  Why were slaves so important to both countries? How did slavery become a huge international trade system? How are slavery and racism connected in America?
  • Many of our oldest and most important buildings in America are Neo-Classical in design.  Our nation’s capital was laid out in the midst of this design period.  The documents created by the political leaders of the time were also built on Greek and Roman ideas.  Recent events in Washington make it seem as if this architectural style doesn’t work in 2021.  Strains and stresses in our society tend to indicate that our founding documents might need deep re-examination.  Are we being constrained by following these 200 year old documents? What about them should be changed if anything, to bring about an America where we are all equal and free?  Should we stop using these ancient buildings in exchange for greater security?

How to Improve Your Score with Discussion Boards

With the first week of Discussion Boards behind of us, it is a good time to pause and reflect before moving forward. If the score is the only thing you look at and moved on, you are doing yourself a disservice. Read the feedback and consider why you lost points, to prevent the same thing happening week after week.

Here are a few common mistakes to avoid:

  1. Not writing enough. This is a writing class. You are expected to read and listen to the materials, analyze and write an understandable response that covers the subject and answers the questions. Use complete sentences, as these are not short-answer questions. You might need to do a bit of extra research.
  2. Cite your sources at the end of the initial post. Never cut-and-paste materials from sources. We want to see your thoughts and not those of others. If you summarize someone else’s thoughts or you use a direct quote, cite them. With assignments of this length, do not use long quotes. A short phrase is the maximum.
  3. If your response to your classmates is “Great post!” “I agree with you!”  are all you write, then you will not get points. Read their posts and find something they say that you can comment on. You can agree or disagree but provide evidence to prove your claims. The length here is important as well. Say something interesting that relates to the subject. Again, if you use outside sources, cite them.
  4. Make sure your comments are organized, relate to the subject and make sense.
  5. Check grammar, spelling, sentence structure, etc. As a college student, mistakes in these areas should not be present in your writing. When they are present, go back and review and learn why you made the mistake, so that you will not make them next time.
  6. When you have completed your post, before you post it, re-read and edit it. You send your best work to be graded. Grading should not be an editing service, but a confirmation of your hard work. You are not done and should not post until you have edited your work for errors.
  7. As a southerner, I often tell myself…Self, you cannot write the way you speak. Use your formal voice, with correct grammar and diction. To be honest, I was born a redneck, but I work hard to keep it under wraps in my writing. Writing well will become one of the greatest skills you can develop, but it takes constant work.
  8. Try to check and respond to your classmates throughout the week. Read my responses to your classmates as well. You will find that the give and take of the responses will add much to your understanding.

Hopefully, these thoughts will help. Go through this process each week after grades are posted. It is always about continual improvement. I often say that for any of us, there is no finish line in writing. We will work to improve throughout our lives. Dr. Mike

Art of Your Choice Template

Each week in our Weekly Discussion, we ask you to select a work of art, architecture, music, or writing/performance art that you want to highlight.  In the first week, we ask you to do this with something you already know and like and it can come from any period including the here and now. Include an image of the art, architecture, or the title of the poem, work of writing or music you choose each week, followed by the name of who created it, the year it was created, and why you like it. In the following weeks, we will ask you to choose from the work being created during the time period we are studying that week. By Week Nine you will have all the examples you will need to complete Assignment Three by adding an introduction and a conclusion and some connective explanations.

Assignment 3 Template.docx

Business Homework

 Preparation

You work for Mike, a global company that specializes in manufacturing and selling athletic shoes for both competition athletes and casual users. You are called into your supervisor’s office where he tells you that you have been assigned to be the leader of a virtual team. The team has been tasked with assessing the feasibility of the company manufacturing and marketing an inexpensive athletic shoe to be sold in Brazil. You will be responsible for getting the team up and running, maintaining open and clear lines of communications, and ultimately launching the product if it is found to be feasible.

Your supervisor hands you a list of the team members—twelve of them. Three work in the United States (two in Beaverton, Oregon, and one in New York City). Two work in England, two in China, two in India, and three in Brazil. All are Mike employees, and all were born in the country in which they work. All speak English, though some speak it better than others.

Your Task

Since you are team’s leader, your supervisor has asked you to meet with the members and then prepare a written report that addresses the following:

  1. What challenges do you expect the team will face because of its multicultural makeup?
  2. How can you help the team overcome these challenges?
  3. What are the opportunities presented by the multicultural makeup of the team?
