National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP)

The foundation of the protecting our nation’s critical infrastructures and key resources is the risk management framework. Risk is the possibility of an unwanted event – the chance of losing something. The goal in risk management is to mitigate loss from a natural or manmade disaster.

For this assignment, read Chapter 3, “The Strategy: Managing Risk,” from NIPP 2013: Partnering for Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience [PDF].

Instructions

Write a 2–4 page paper in which you:

  1. Analyze the National Infrastructure Protection Plan and Risk Management Framework, including Figure 3 – Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Framework on page 15 of the National Infrastructure Protection Plan, and conclude how it has been designed to protect the nation’s critical infrastructure.
  2. Determine the purpose of the feedback loop design and argue how it strengthens or weakens the model. Justify your response.
  3. Decide if taking a “risk management” approach is suitable for protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure. Support your response.
  4. Choose the one step that is the most important or has the greatest impact on the other steps of the Risk Management Framework and describe why.

Nursing Case Study: Urinary Tract Infection

Case Study: Urinary Tract Infection

You are working in an extended care facility when M.Z.’s daughter brings her mother in for a week’s stay while she goes on a planned vacation. M.Z. is an 89-year-old widow with a 4-day history of non- localized abdominal pain, incontinence, new-onset mental confusion, and loose stools. Her most current vital signs are 118/60, 88, 18, 98.4° F (37.4° C). The medical director ordered a post void catheterization, which yielded 100mL of cloudy urine that had a strong odor, and several lab tests on admission. Urine culture and sensitivity results are pending; the other results are shown in the chart.

Chart View Laboratory Test Results:

Complete metabolic panel: Within normal limits except for the following results:

 BUN 25mg/dL Sodium 131mEq/L

 Potassium 3.2mEq/L

White blood cell count 11,000/mm3

Urinalysis Appearance Cloudy Odor Foul

 pH 6.9

 Protein Negative

 Nitrites Positive

 Crystals Negative

WBCs 6 per low-power field

 RBCs 3

  1. What condition do the lab reports point toward?
  2. Which assessment findings are typical of an older adult with the condition in Question 1?
  3. Considering her history and laboratory results, what other condition is a possibility?

4.The medical director makes rounds and writes orders to start an IV of D5 ½NS at 75mL/hr. and insert a Foley catheter to gravity drainage. Because M.Z. is unable to take oral medications, the medical director orders ciprofloxacin (Cipro) 400mg q12h IV piggyback (IVPB). Are the type of fluid and rate appropriate for M.Z.’s age and condition? Explain.

 5. While the IVPB ciprofloxacin is being administered, which adverse effects might occur?

6. You enter the room to start the IV infusion and insert the Foley catheter and find that the nursing assistive personnel (NAP) has taken M.Z. to the bathroom for a bowel movement. M.Z. asks you to help her, and, as you open the door, you observe her wiping herself from back to front. What do you need to do at this time?

7. Because M.Z. has been having diarrhea, what special instructions should you give the NAP assigned to give basic care to M.Z.?

Case Study Progress:

The next day, you are the nurse assigned to M.Z.’s care. You notice that the NAP emptying the gravity drain is not wearing personal protection devices. You also observe that the drainage port of the drainage bag was contaminated during the process because the NAP allowed it to touch the floor.

8. What issues need to be considered in protecting M.Z.’s safety? Describe your actions in working with the nursing assistant.

9. As you assess M.Z., you notice that her catheter tubing is not secured. Why does the tubing need to be secured, and where is the correct place for the catheter tubing?

10. What changes, if any, will be made to the antibiotic therapy?

BUS 637 WEEK 3 ASSIGNMENT

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, complete Levels 3 and 4 of the EI Games: Presentation Skills Course and watch the following videos How To Make A Good PowerPoint Presentation (Links to an external site.), Dealing With Objections (Links to an external site.), and How To Do A Good Presentation – 5 Steps To A Killer Opener (Links to an external site.).

Level 3: Preparing for the Presentation presents information about developing the presentation. The preparatory actions include the following:

  • Creating an argument,
  • Appropriate casting,
  • Creating a team,
  • The importance of rehearsal,
  • Opening the presentation,
  • Visual aids, and
  • Fielding the team.

Level 4: Closing to Win focuses on delivering the presentation. Critical areas associated with delivering the presentation include the following:

  • Managing the presentation flow,
  • Delivering a compelling close,
  • Coping with objections,
  • Taking appropriate postpresentation actions, and
  • Negotiating effectively.

While reflecting on the material offered in the EI Games: Presentation Skills Course and developing your paper, consider prior learning and prior work experience, in addition to the material presented. Disagreeing with the principles presented in Levels 3 and 4 is appropriate. However, do not reject the offered principles out of hand. Support acceptance or rejection of the offered principles with critical thinking and sound reasoning.

After completing the Levels 3 and 4 activities, reflect on the situation presented in which a member of the presentation team had an emergency on the day of the presentation. The emergency was such that the team member is unable to deliver her part of the presentation. The solution proposed in the EI Games advised the team to explain the situation to the potential client and ask for a rescheduled presentation date.

Create a summarized presentation problem contingency plan for the following issues:

  • Audience members appear bored and uninterested in the presentation.
  • Audience members frequently interrupt the presentation with objections.
  • Audience members allude to the inconvenience they experienced because of the rescheduled presentation.
  • Audience members ask probing questions the presentation team is unprepared to answer.

Limit contingency summaries to no more than two paragraphs per contingency and one paragraph per identified concern.

In your paper,

  • Appraise the value or lack of value associated with asking for a presentation to be rescheduled because of an emergency.
  • Frame your response with likely client reactions to the reschedule request.
  • Determine three areas of concern the potential client might have based upon the reschedule request.

Your paper must be at least two pages in length (not counting the title and reference pages), and you must also use at least two scholarly sources, one of which must come from the CSU Online Library. Any   information from a source must be cited and referenced in APA format, and your paper must be formatted in accordance to APA guidelines.

Choose one of the scenarios below (A or B) to complete the assignment.

Scenario A

You are the business owner of a local small engine repair shop, and you have been thinking about implementing a knowledge management system for your customer service technicians. You are thinking about this because there are times when some of your technicians know how to fix certain engine problems and others do not. Providing a central knowledge repository could help share troubleshooting and repair knowledge among your technicians.

Scenario B

You are the business owner of a local cleaning service, and you have been thinking about implementing a knowledge management system for your cleaning technicians, especially for those who troubleshoot and solve cleaning problems, such as removing certain carpet and water stains, addressing mold, and selecting the proper tools and products to use for other   types of cleaning issues. You are thinking about this because there are times   when some of your cleaning technicians know how to properly clean carpets and   others do not. Providing a central knowledge repository could help share   cleaning knowledge among your cleaning technicians.

After you chose your scenario (A or B), compose a paper that addresses the elements listed below.

  • Explain the role of knowledge management systems.
  • Explain what is meant by expert systems.
  • Explain what is meant by content management systems.
  • Discuss how the business in the selected scenario could benefit from an expert system and a content management system, and provide two examples for each type of system.
  • Discuss how the business in the selected scenario could benefit from business intelligence, and provide two examples of these benefits.
  • Discuss how the business in the selected scenario can use social media to not only obtain information and knowledge but to share it as well, and provide two examples of how the business might use social media information systems.

URGENT 4 PAGES NEEDED ( IN 10 HRS) FIX TIME

This assignment requires students to select five (5) readings from one (1) Module in Winter term (Modules 4, 5, 6). Students will be completing a synthesis across the five readings within a single Module from Winter term. This assignment requires students to make an argument—your argument is what you argue the five readings collectively offer us as students of WGST regarding a particular topic in the course (the focus of the Module would be the broader topic)
Steps:
First, decide which Winter module you would like to focus on as the broader topic; Modules 4, 5, and 6 are from the Winter term. Second, focus on the specific topics in the Module selected. Decide which five readings you would like to focus on from the Module. Remember, the readings do not have to be from the same lecture week but do have to be from the same Module. Third, to successfully synthesize the five sources, begin by grouping sources by topic and looking for connections across the readings. For example, look for overlapping ideas, where sources agree with each other, and divergences. Any unanswered questions or identifiable limitations of the readings? Fourth, begin to make an argument based on the readings and what they tell us about the broader topic (the Module’s focus is the broader topic). Fifth, after you understand what the sources are arguing, you want to construct your body paragraphs in a way that acknowledges different sources and highlights where you can draw new conclusions. Next Steps: Begin with an introductory paragraph that addresses standard introductory paragraph requirements and that has a clear thesis statement, “Drawing upon Author (year), Author (year), Author (year)….I argue that…. 3 Each body paragraph (body paragraphs should deal with separate ideas, and do not have to be limited to three body paragraphs) should offer a discussion that maintains and supports your thesis and effectively demonstrates comprehension, application, and discussion of ideas from the sources. The concluding paragraph should bring together ideas and offer your original conclusion of what the five sources discussed tell us as students of WGST about the topic. The conclusion could also include questions for future discussions, directions, etc., relevant to WGST and the topic.

Readings:

pp. 680-686. “Idle No More: Indigenous Activism and Feminism”

pp. 465-473. “Women, Disability and the Right to Health.”

pp. 272-279. “Women’s Experience of Racism.”

pp. 549-551. “Digital Defense: Black Feminists Resist Violence with Hashtag Activism.”

. pp. 361-372. “You Can’t Change the Indian Act?

Other important information
1. We are looking for a synthesis; this means that students can take ideas from multiple authors (five) and make an argument based on the ideas from the authors. The argument is what the five readings collectively offer us as students of WGST regarding a particular topic in the course (the focus of the Module would be the broader topic). 2. A maximum of two short (forty words or less) quotes may be used in this assignment. 3. Use first person only. Do not use second person. 4. When paraphrasing or drawing upon an author, remember to cite. While paraphrasing does not require page numbers for in-text citing, it is encouraged.5. All work from our textbook should be dated 2018, regardless of their original year of publication. 6. Do not use titles of readings or the textbook in text. Refer to readings by author and year. The year will always be 2018 for our textbook readings.

Music History

Short Essay #2 – Rethinking Modernism

“At a time when musicology’s sights seem set ever more squarely on eradicating boundaries…the study of modernism can seem a rather antiquated concern.  Modernism is arguably all about boundaries, in the heightened sense that it is itself a contested category, whose only red thread seems to have been an investment in distinction and hierarchy.”

from Christopher Chowrimootoo, “Reviving the Middlebrow, or: Deconstructing Modernism from the Inside,” in Journal of the Royal Musical Association, vol. 139, no. 1 (2014), p. 188.

What does it mean for music to be “modern”?  And why should we care?  For the last few decades, musicologists have thought about these questions, finding that modernist composers often defined themselves by differentiating their work both from traditional forms of expression and from mass popular culture.  Although this so-called “great divide” between art and popular music, between traditional and progressive ideas is prevalent in many primary sources, it need not be the only way we think about the last 150 years of music history.

Please read Christopher Chowrimootoo’s “Reviving the Middlebrow” (pp. 187-193 in the “Modernism and its Others” PDF.  Chowrimootoo claims that we should begin to rethink this history of modern music by paying more attention to “middlebrow” music: repertories that fall somewhere in between modernism’s divides.  Write a brief essay in which you try this approach: consider music that does not align neatly with clear categorizations and hierarchies, and reflect on how understanding this music might impact our understanding of music history.

Your essay should address the following points:

  • How do you understand the “great divide” discussed on p. 188? How has it affected our discussions of music history, and of music more generally?  Please expand on Chowrimootoo’s short discussion by briefly citing examples of composers or pieces from different sides of the divide (at least one from each side).
  • What does Chowrimootoo mean by “middlebrow” (introduced on p. 190)? What, specifically, does paying more attention to middlebrow music do to help our understanding of music history more generally?
  • Select a piece (from the syllabus or elsewhere), and consider it from the “middlebrow” perspective. How does it fit between tradition and innovation?  Between “high” art and popular culture?  Be specific, and be sure to consider both its musical features and its historical context.
  • Do you think music history ought to focus more on these “middlebrow” pieces? How should they be balanced with our understanding of a more divided view of modernism?

Assessment 4: Expansion Recommendation

Prepare either a 3-4 page report or a 12-slide presentation in which you analyze financial information and risks associated with an investment to expand an organization and make a recommendation on whether or not to invest in expansion.

Introduction

This portfolio work project will allow you to review information and risks associated with an investment to expand an organization. As this information will be shared broadly across the organization, you will have a choice in your final deliverable audience and will organize your deliverable to meet the needs of that audience.

Scenario

ZXY Company is a food product company. ZXY is considering expanding to two new products and a second production facility. The food products are staples with steady demands. The proposed expansion will require an investment of $7,000,000 for equipment with an assumed ten-year life, after which all equipment and other assets can be sold for an estimated $1,000,000. They will be renting the facility. ZXY requires a 12 percent return on investments. You have been asked to recommend whether or not to make the investment.

Your Role

You are an accounting manager. Your boss has asked you to review and provide a recommendation on the expansion based on information that has been provided.

Requirements

In preparing and supporting your recommendation to either make the investment or not, include the following items as part of your analysis:

  • Analysis of financial information.
  • Identification of risks associated with the investment. Consider:
    • How risky the project appears.
    • How far off your estimates of revenues and expenses can be before your decision would change.
    • The difference if the company were to use a straight line versus a MACRS depreciation.
  • Recommendation for a course of action.
  • Explanation of criteria supporting your recommendation.
Financial Information

As part of your analysis you might find that additional information from marketing, accounting, or finance would be useful in making an informed and well-supported recommendation. In a real workplace setting you would have the ability to ask for that information. However, for the purposes of this assessment, you can make assumptions about the values of that data or ratios in support of your recommendation.

Accounting worked with the marketing group to create the ZXY Company Financial Statements spreadsheet for the new products business and the new facility.

Notes about the financial information:

  • The expense line labeled SQF FDA Mandates refers to the costs of complying with Food and Drug Administration requirements.
  • Depreciation expense is calculated using 7-year life modified accelerated cost recovery system (MACRS).

Deliverable Format

Depending on the audience you choose to address, use one of the following options:

  • Report for a mid-management audience. Prepare a 3–4 page report detailing your recommendation and the information you used to make your recommendation.
  • Presentation for top leadership. Prepare a presentation of at least 12 slides detailing your recommendation and the information you used to make your recommendation. You may use your choice of presentation software. Include notes with additional details.

Keep in mind that your recommendation may be shared with others, so your materials should be designed for clarity and readability.

Related company standards for either format:
  • The recommendation report is a professional document and should therefore follow the corresponding MBA Academic and Professional Document Guidelines, including single-spaced paragraphs.
  • In addition to the report or presentation, include:
    • Title (slide or page).
    • References (slide or page).
    • Appendix with supporting materials.
    • At least two APA-formatted references.

Evaluation

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies through corresponding scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 2: Apply principles of accounting to assess financial performance.
    • Analyze financial statements for decision support.
    • Explain risks associated with an investment decision.
  • Competency 3: Analyze accounting information to support business decisions.
    • Recommend a course of action based on financial information.
    • Explain how financial criteria support a decision.
  • Competency 4: Communicate financial information with multiple stakeholders.
    • Communicate accounting information clearly.

Faculty will use the scoring guide to review your deliverable as if they were your boss. Review the scoring guide prior to developing and submitting your assessment.

ePortfolio

This portfolio work project demonstrates your competency in applying knowledge and skills required of an MBA learner in the workplace. Include this in your personal ePortfolio.
