Roots of Organizational Policy

IMPORTANT:  No late submissions after the final day of class will be allowed for the final assignment, as final course grades are due within 72 hours of the due date. Students who fail to submit will earn a 0%.

The Comprehensive Final Project (Assignment #4) has been designed for the student to identify federal and state policy roots in a specific health services organization. Each student will select a specific management area for a specific organization. The student will identify a health services setting where they have access to the policy manual (or a sample policy manual). The setting may include a single location or an organization with many types of services and many service delivery settings. Select one of the following health management areas where you will map out and describe four (4) organizational policies (four separate policies, or MAJOR parts of a comprehensive policy – for example, HR Policy covering all aspects of HR in the organization) linked to federal or state legislative mandates:

Prepare a PowerPoint presentation with no more than 18 content slides (students may utilize the Notes feature to provide additional context, if needed). A cover and reference slide must be provided (these do not count towards the maximum slides). Draw on what you have learned throughout the class to provide: a summary of each organizational policy, the federal/state legislative roots for each policy (by name and statute), any pending changes to the federal/state legislation, and your suggested performance metrics – how should the organizational monitor or gauge success of the policy.

Note:  the four policies you choose should address, either directly or indirectly, four federal or state legislation, or four aspects/provisions of one overall federal or state legislation

A good approach to the final project would be to allocate four slides to each of the four policies, each slide addressing one of the four bold topics above for each policy. For example, title slide, introduction slide, then four slides on policy one (one slide for each of the bolded topics above), four slides on policy two…… etc.…. conclusion slide and then a resources slide.

Negotiation and Conflict Management

Each student will select one of the key terms listed below and conduct a search of Campbellsville University’s online Library resources to find 1 recent peer reviewed article (within the past 3 years) that closely relate to the concept. Your submission must include the following information in the following format:

Key Terms:

  • Negotiation
  • Five phases of negotiation
  • Conflict Management
  • Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA)

DEFINITION: a brief definition of the key term followed by the APA reference for the term; this does not count in the word requirement.

SUMMARY: Summarize the article in your own words- this should be in the 150-200 word range. Be sure to note the article’s author, note their credentials and why we should put any weight behind his/her opinions, research or findings regarding the key term.

ANALYSIS: Using 300-350 words, write a brief analysis, in your own words of how the article relates to the selected chapter Key Term. An analysis is not rehashing what was already stated in the article, but the opportunity for you to add value by sharing your experiences, thoughts and opinions. This is the most important part of the assignment.

REFERENCES: All references must be listed at the bottom of the submission–in APA format.

Be sure to use the headers in your submission to ensure that all aspects of the assignment are completed as required.

Any form of plagiarism, including cutting and pasting, will result in zero points for the entire assignment.

6-1

Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) are essential as they fulfill a purpose that is traditionally addressed by a government (Balteanu & Marcu, 2014).  In order for an NGO to be impactful and serve its purpose, it will require support and involvement from those it has been organized to help, as well as maintain financial and management autonomy, devoid of the governmental influence (Johnson & Stoskopf, 2010).  Political and social instability has made it difficult for NGO’s to fulfill their purpose to meet the needs of the communities they have pin pointed as their focus (Balteanu & Marcu).  During unrest experienced by many countries, residents who need shelter, food, and medical care, benefit from what NGO’s to provide (Balteanu & Marcu).  Without the government, military, or religious backing of the NGO’s purpose, the NGO will not be able to fulfill it’s intent (Balteanu & Marcu).

Resident of unstable regions through out the world, are without food, shelter, and medical care due to the preoccupation with control, whether through the government, military, or religious factions.  The unstable governments within these regions are either unwilling or unable to care for the needs of their citizens or have taken away their ability to care for themselves.  NGO’s have the ability to provide for the needs of the people and help them sustain, if allowed.

In general, what is the impact of political and social instability on non-government organizations?

Evolution of Policing

Watch the following videos from the University Library:

  • “Targeting Terror”
  • “Advantages and Disadvantages of Surveillance”
  • “What is Biometrics?”

Research and develop an understanding of the following:

  • USA PATRIOT Act of 2001
  • Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003
  • Homeland Security Act of 2002

Choose one of the acts to focus on and then identify an event that falls within the jurisdiction of that act. To find pertinent information for this assignment, the event chosen should have culminated in an arrest or other conclusion, and adjudication should be complete, or the case closed (cold cases are not acceptable).

Create a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with detailed speaker notes in which you:

  • Summarize the event, including the who, what, where, when, and how. Discuss how the offender was caught.
  • Identify technological, methodological, and criminological points of interest in the case, including offender typology and profile, to align with the best theory as defined in previous weeks, including physical, biological, psychological, social structure, social processes and development, and social conflict.
  • Describe the use of technology, DNA, forensics, biometrics, and any other criminal identification tool used in the case.
  • Discuss what impact crime and global crimes, such as human trafficking, have on crime control policies.
  • In your conclusion, discuss how the evolution of policing might affect social policy from national and international perspectives and consider how the evolving technologies relate to national and international policymaking.

Cite at least two academic references according to APA guidelines.

Project part B & Final

Part B: Hypothesis Testing and Confidence Intervals

Complete the following four hypotheses, using α = 0.05 for each. The week 5 spreadsheet can be used in these analyses.

  • 1. Mean sales per week exceed 42.5 per salesperson
  • 2. Proportion receiving online training is less than 55%
  • 3  Mean calls made among those with no training is at least 145
  • 4. Mean time per call is 14.7 minutes
  • Using the same data set from part A, perform the hypothesis test for each speculation in order to see if there is evidence to support the manager’s belief. Use the Eight Steps of a Test of Hypothesis from Section 9.1 of your text book as a guide. You can use either the p-value or the critical values to draw conclusions. Be sure to explain your conclusion and interpret that to the claim in simple terms
  • Compute 99% confidence intervals for the variables used in each hypothesis test, and interpret these intervals.
  • Write a report about the results, distilling down the results in a way that would be understandable to someone who does not know statistics. Clear explanations and interpretations are critical.
  • All DeVry University policies are in effect, including the plagiarism policy.
  • Project Part B report is due by the end of Week 6.
  • Project Part B is worth 100 total points. See grading rubric below.

Format for report:

  1. Summary Report (about one paragraph on each of the four speculations)
  2. Appendix with the calculations of the Eight Elements of a Test of Hypothesis, the p-values, and the confidence intervals. Include the Excel formulas or spreadsheet screen shots used in the calculations.

Final Project: Regression and Correlation Analysis

Use the dependent variable (labeled Y) and one of the independent variables (labeled X1, X2, and X3) in the data file. Select and use one independent variable throughout this analysis. Use Excel to perform the regression and correlation analysis to answer the following. The week 6 spreadsheet can be helpful in this work.

  1. Generate a scatterplot for the specified dependent variable (Y) and the selected independent variable (X), including the graph of the “best fit” line. Interpret.
  2. Determine the equation of the “best fit” line, which describes the relationship between the dependent variable and the selected independent variable.
  3. Determine the correlation coefficient. Interpret.
  4. Determine the coefficient of determination. Interpret.
  5. Test the utility of this regression model by completing a hypothesis test of b=0 using α=0.10. Interpret results, including the p-value.
  6. Based on the findings in steps 1-5, analyze the ability of the independent variable to predict the dependent variable.
  7. Compute the confidence interval for b, using a 95% confidence level. Interpret this interval.
  8. Compute the 99% confidence interval for the dependent variable, for a selected value of the independent variable. Each student can choose a value to use for the independent variable (use same value in the next step). Interpret this interval.
  9. Using the same chosen value for part (8), estimate the 99% prediction interval for the dependent variable. Interpret this interval.
  10. What can be said about the value of the dependent variable for values of the independent variable that are outside the range of the sample values? Explain.
  11. Describe a business decision that could be made based on the results of this analysis. In other words, how might the business operations change based on these statistical results.
  12. All DeVry University policies are in effect, including the plagiarism policy.
  13. Final Project report is due by the end of Week 7.
  14. Final Project is worth 130 total points. See grading rubric below.

Summarize your results from Steps 1-11 in a 3-page report. The report should explain and interpret the results in ways that are understandable to someone who does not know statistics.

Submission: The Word document, summary report should be submitted for questions 1-11. The Excel output can be included as an appendix, if needed.

Assessment 5: 6030

  • Develop a 4–6-page plan that will allow you to evaluate your intervention.

Note: Each assessment in this course builds on the work you completed in the previous assessment. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

  • Assessment Instructions:
  • Instructions
Note: The assessments in this course are sequenced in such a way as to help you build specific skills that you will use throughout your program. Complete the assessments in the order in which they are presented.
Your evaluation plan design will be the forth section of your final project submission. The goal for this is to finalize the outcomes that your plan is seeking to achieve and to create a plan to evaluate the degree to which those outcomes were achieved after your intervention plan has been implemented. This will allow you and your care setting to determine the degree to which the plan was successful in addressing the identified need of your target population and setting.
You will also discuss ways in which your role allows you to lead change and drive quality improvement, and to potentially improve the project in the future. In addition, you will reflect on how the project will leave you better prepared for success in other aspects of your current and future career. Provide enough detail so that the faculty member assessing your implementation plan design and discussion will be able to provide substantive feedback that you will be able to incorporate into the final draft of your project.
At minimum, be sure to address the bullet points below, as they correspond to the grading criteria. You may also want to read the scoring guide and the Guiding Questions: Evaluation Plan Design document (linked in the Resources) to better understand how each criterion will be assessed. In addition to the bullet points below, provide a brief introduction that refreshes the reader’s memory about your problem statement, your planned intervention, and how you intended to implement your intervention (this should only be a single paragraph).
Reminder: these instructions are an outline. Your heading for this this section should be Evaluation of Plan and not Part 1: Evaluation of Plan.
    Part 1: Evaluation of Plan

    • Define the outcomes that are the goal of an intervention plan.
    • Create an evaluation plan to determine the impact of an intervention for a health promotion, quality improvement, prevention, education, or management need.
    • Part 2: Discussion
      Advocacy
    • Analyze the nurse’s role in leading change and driving improvements in the quality and experience of care.
    • Explain how the intervention plan affects nursing and interprofessional collaboration, and how the health care field gains from the plan.
    • Future Steps
    • Explain how the current project could be improved upon to create a bigger impact in the target population as well as to take advantage of emerging technology and care models to improve outcomes and safety.
    • Reflection on Leading Change and Improvement
    • Reflect on how the project has impacted your ability to lead change in personal practice and future leadership positions.
    • Reflect on the ways in which the completed intervention, implementation, and evaluation plans can be transferred into your personal practice to drive quality improvement in other contexts.
    • Address Generally Throughout
    • Integrate resources from diverse sources that illustrate support for all aspects of an evaluation plan for an intervention, as well as for professional discussion about the plan.
    • Communicate evaluation plan and discussion of the project in a professional way that helps the audience to understand how the outcomes will be evaluated, as well as what was learned through the project process.

Additional Requirements

  • Length of submission: 4–6 pages, double spaced.
  • Number of resources: Minimum of 3–6 resources. (You may use resources previously cited in your literature review to contribute to this number. Your final project will require 12–18 unique resources.)
  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style. Header formatting follows current APA levels.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Week 1 Discussion

Before starting this activity, review the Week 1 LEARN (e-Activity) videos (there are several) and read Chapter 1 in the course text book. Doing this will give you the Why to include in your response to the following:

1)    From the LEARN, determine which of the two primary drivers of the competitive landscape is more influential.

a.    Explain your rationale.

2)    From the PRACTICE activity, identify an organization that could benefit from the application of the I/O Model of Above-Average Returns (Figure 1.2 page 15 in the textbook).

a.    Follow the five steps to justify your answer.

b.    Do not use Apple or Walmart in this exercise, nor should the organization you select be the same as another post.

Do not use Kohl’s or Target either another Student use it.

Respond to a classmate:

The two primary drivers are the emergence of a global economy and technology, specially rapid technological change, are the two primary drivers of hypercompetitive environments and the nature of today’s competitive landscape.

  1. The company that can benefit from the application of the I/O Model of Above-Average Returns is Target. Target Corporation is the second-largest department store retailer in the United States, behind Walmart, and is a component of the S&P 500 Index The external environment is there number one benefit- They offer a red card which gives customers a 5% discount plus free easy returns which makes it an attractive industry because who doesn’t want to save money, That formulation strategy brings customers in the door, since you’re saving tremendously.

346 AAssignmentsBuilding Adaptive Capacity

We currently live and work from day to day assuming that the climate will remain within a certain set of experienced conditions. One way that communities survive and adapt to the changing conditions around us is to have flexible and responsive social and physical structures. This assignment asks you to develop a plan for increasing the local adaptive capacity (broadly interpreted) that you experience in your everyday life, within your own community. The first step in bringing about change is imagining it. It is that step that we are trying to address with this assignment.

How to proceed:

  1. First, think broadly about the adaptation strategies and the steps needed for an adaptation plan. Then watch the following video and think about the climate related aspects of where you live:

  1. Then describe and evaluate some of the social and economic aspects of your community. Do people in your community have the social connections to help one another during a period of extreme weather? (such as flooding or a heat wave). Secondly, describe the physical aspects of your neighborhood. Draw a roughly approximate map of the neighborhood (or an area near where you live that you are familiar with that could be susceptible to flooding), include the area where the area where water would be likely to go if a flood occurred. Your map can be a hand-drawn sketch, a photocopy of a close-up paper map, a close-up map available from the web (e.g., from Google maps or similar mapping service), or any other source. You will not be graded in map making skills but will be evaluated on how well you can illustrate a plan. The map should be at least ½ page and no more than 1 page in size.
  2. Assessment: If the community was to experience a significant flood, where would the water go? Outline this area on the map. Who would be the people affected? Explain the possible impacts to day to day living if the flood lasted a month. What might help your community adapt to prolonged flood conditions or other extreme weather?
  3. Imagine how a community response plan to this flood might work. Think creatively about how to work within the neighborhood conditions you have described and how the community could work on addressing a large flood. Then propose how you would work to raise awareness, and build a community network could be developed to respond to these types of events. Provide your ideas on both how to build a community fostered response and what changes to local infrastructure might help to alleviate local flood risks. Remember that this plan is to help the entire community to come together and adapt as best as possible, in an inclusive, deliberative process.
  4. In at least 1200 words (to 1800 max) How, specifically, what will be involved and what are the steps in your proposed plan? How would you bring the community (stakeholders) together to work on the plan and develop a more cohesive community within the prospect of many possible climate extremes (flooding being just one example)? How will it provide a comprehensive community response, and would changes to infrastructure or land use be needed lower your flood risk? What would be the “co-benefits” to the community? Show the proposed change on your map (or make a second map using your first map as the template) that effectively shows how you would make the area less susceptible to flooding. Your map should depict some element of the infrastructure, physical or not, as it currently exists (e.g., roads, housing unit locations, greenspace, development patterns, sidewalks, public transport, school locations, school transportation plans, food production, utilities, etc.). You will NOT be graded on your technical expertise as a mapmaker—but rather on how effectively the map conveys the features that are relevant to addressing floods in your adaptation plan. You will need a legend, and probably some text on the map.

The assignment will be graded on content (does it reflect a good understanding of adaptation planning stages and strategies from the reading assignments and videos, and sound critical thinking about ways to achieve them?) and the effectiveness with which the content is communicated.

Note: The point of this exercise is to generate ideas without constraining ourselves to inside-the-box thinking. However, please do not be completely unrealistic in your plans, and remember that all of the people in the community matter, including those with different interests. Assume only currently existing technologies are available.
