Narrative Criticism

Write Narrative Criticism on “THE FRESH PRINCE OF OF BEL-AIR”

.Narrative Criticism

1) Identify the objective of the narrative (what is the story’s purpose?)

Does it encourage action? Defend an act? Teach a lesson? Bring comfort? Etc.

2) Identify the features of the narrative:

a) Setting

–how developed/detailed?

–does it change?

–how does it relates to plot/characters?

b) Characters (who is depicted and how?)

c) Narrator

–direct narrative or mediated by a narrator?

–audible or inaudible?

–what kind of person?

–what degree of power/authority?

–how reliable?

–what is the point of view?

d) Events

–at least 2 (kernels, satellites)

–active or stative

–type of plot (epic, dramatic, epistemic, soap opera)

f) Structure (building blocks: words, scenes, camera angles, photographs)

e) Temporal relations (brief period, many years, order of events, past or present tense, flashbacks or flash-forwards?)

f) Causal relations (cause-effect relationship)

g) Audience

–to whom is the narrative addressed?

–ideology or attitude?

I) Theme (what is the general idea illustrated in the narrative?)

J) Type of narrative (comedy, romance, tragedy, irony, or something else)

3) Assess the narrative. Does it fulfill the objective? What does it tell us about our culture?

Remember to:

1. Give a brief description of the show whose opening theme you are analyzing.

2. Provide the link to the opening theme/opening credit sequence.

3. Include all steps of your method of criticism in your analysis.

You may submit your analysis as a PowerPoint presentation (or approved alternative).

It should not look like a traditional paper.

However, be sure to both DESCRIBE and INTERPRET. Avoid simply stating the obvious (what I can see and hear by watching your clip). Tell me what you see and hear AND tell me what it MEANS

PowerPoint Need By Tomorrow‼️

Below are general guidelines and instructions to get you started on the presentation/project. I will post the more formalized instructions as well as a video with more detailed instructions on eCourses in the Presentation Module when I post the rubric.

Students are expected to create a visual presentation (PowerPoint, Presi.com) and record themselves giving a 10 presentation.  Pick a country discussed in class (e.g. Egypt) or the textbook (except the U.S. and Japan). You will need to research the country’s criminal justice system and report the information in your PowerPoint/recorded presentation.  Make sure you discuss the following:

  1. The legal tradition of your country
  2. The police structure of your country
  3. The court structure of your country
  4. The correctional (punishment/penology) structure of your country
  5. The juvenile justice structure of your country
  6. Compare the criminal justice system of the United States to the one you have chosen.

Guidelines: The comparative criminal justice systems presentation will be recorded and should be no more than 10 minutes long. The presentation should be organized so that the information about the country you picked appears in the first half of the presentation and the comparison to the U.S. criminal justice system appears in the second half of the presentation.

The presentation must use and cite at least five outside references using APA format.

wrongfully-convicted offenders NEED PLAGERISM REPORT

Online Library or the Internet, research and analyze a major national-level street gang, such as MS-13 or the Bloods. Describe the challenges such gangs present to law enforcement. Also, analyze how theories such as social disorganization and strain theory describe factors that lead juveniles to join such gangs.

Another key issue is the use of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) evidence to exonerate wrongfully-convicted offenders. Advances in technology in recent years have allowed investigators to use old crime scene evidence to prove the evidence of some death-row inmates. For this portion of the assignment, describe the efforts being made by citizens outside the criminal justice system to ensure that innocent people are not wrongfully executed. Be sure to include the “Innocence Project.”

The above issue raises the question of how innocent men and women might have been convicted in the first place. For the third portion of this assignment, analyze and discuss the most common causes of wrongful convictions.

For the final part of this paper, examine a post-9/11 critical issue that corresponds to your area of interest. Once you have selected an issue:

How the community influences this issue?

Are the lawmakers and politicians addressing the issue appropriately?

Have any improvements been made in recent years?

Given what you have learned throughout his program, what are your thoughts on the issue?

Some issues you might wish to choose may include the President’s use of drones to kill the US citizens suspected of terrorism without due process; the use of GPS devices and “sneak-and-peek” searches to investigate suspects; cyber-attacks from foreign countries; the use of Supermax prisons to house convicted terrorists; legislation to restrict private ownership of certain types of guns.

Theory, Research, and Practice

A library search for a nursing research article using a grand or middle-range theory resulted in identifying the article by Schoenhofer et al. (2019). The nursing theory guided the report will be explained as follows, after providing an overview of the research article. The research article by Schoenhofer et al. (2019) had the topic of using robots for nursing practice in a care-centered and value-sensitive design. The researchers developed a theoretical framework for a novel middle-range theory and analyzed its congruence and dissonance. The article was based on the “Nursing as Care” (NAC) theory which is an extant grand theory of nursing (Dyess et al., 2010).

These frameworks & models can be used to strengthen the practice of nursing by guiding research that leads to evidence-based practice. Research has been considered to be the foundation for evidence-based practice and it is considered to be an essential element of implementation science. Implementation science in nursing uses established theories like middle-range and grand theories to conceptualize a framework for research. The findings of the research can then be used for guiding practice. A theoretical framework provides the basis for an efficient research model. A well-conceptualized study has greater trustworthiness and credibility. The results of such a study are also expected to have a greater impact on guiding the personal practice of nurses across the board.

In my professional practice, I have observed the development of new evidence-based practices based on research on problems of clinical significance. For example, in my personal experience, I saw the COVID-19 pandemic. Evidence-based sanitization protocols were enforced in my unit once findings of research about viral disinfection were available. The research guiding such a practice was based on strong theories that resulted in their success to find way to implementation.

Philosophy 14

Answer one of the following questions based in 100 words based on the attach document.

Jean-Paul Sartre, ‘Existentialism is a Humanism’ (1946)

1. First, I would like you to think about the central principle of Existentialism. What does Sartre mean when he writes that, “existence precedes essence?” (p.3.).

(Answer the question in your own words. Also find examples in the text).

2. Also, shortly afterwards, Sartre writes, “If, however, it is true that existence is prior to essence, man is responsible for what he is.” What does Sartre mean by this? (p.3-4.)

(Again, answer in your own words, and find examples in the text).

3. When Sartre writes, “Our responsibility is thus much greater than we had supposed, for it concerns mankind as a whole” (4).

What does Sartre mean?

(Again, find examples in the text).

4. For Sartre, why is “anguish” a “condition of action itself?”  (p.4-5.). And what does he mean when he writes that, “…action presupposes that there is a plurality of possibilities, and in choosing one of these…it has value only because it is chosen” (4-5).

(Answer the question in your own words, and find examples in the text to support your points).

5. What does Sartre mean when he states that “man is condemned to be free?”(5).

(Find examples in the text, and answer in your own words).

6. Why does Sartre use the example of the student who lives with his mother during the war, and who has approached Sartre for advice? How does this example help to prove Sartre’s arguments about ethics, values, and choice? What does Sartre want to say through this example? (5-6).

(Answer the question in your own words, and use examples).

7. What does Sartre mean when he states that:

:“”Man is nothing else but what he purposes, he exists only in so far as he realizes himself, he is therefore nothing else but the sum of his actions, nothing else but what his life is.” (7).?

(Answer the question in your own words, and find examples in the text).

8. As an ethical philosophy that according to Sartre, is misunderstood for its pessimism, how does existentialism, in fact, provide an “optimistic” view of life? (8).

(Find examples in the text).

9. What is the connection between existentialism and “humanity” (“humanism”)? (9-10).

(Answer the question in your own words, and find examples in the text).

10. Finally, do you find Sartre’s views about existentialism convincing?

And as an ethical theory, how might Sartre’s reading change the way that you view and live your own life today?

Do you agree or disagree with the central arguments of existentialism?

Unit 5 Discussion 1 – Situational Analysis Framework of Riverbend City Case

You have viewed the two presentations on Riverbend City’s NAC members analyzing some of the data for use in the needs prioritization and project interview process. Thus, you now know a lot more about Riverbend City’s public needs assessment project. This is an opportunity to analyze what you understand so far about its SAF.

You will then determine the next steps for the project. Some of the members have very different perspectives on what the SAF data means and some are supportive of certain needs-based issues. Everyone has their own perspective, areas

of expertise, and interests. Reliability and validity of the SAF data also play a role in the outcome.

As a consultant hired to facilitate this SAF of Riverbend City’s case study exploration, include the following in your analysis:

Select members of the NAC and develop the strategy they should use to make sure the SAF data they are supporting is as accurate and useful as possible.

Are the right people represented on the NAC? Consider who else might be added?

What kinds of data gathering and modeling have been performed already?

Provide examples of what makes their data effective and informative for the needs prioritization process.

• Write a script defending and explaining the data use to other NAC members.

• Remember to use the voices of other committee members to ask your selected member questions to carry the discussion along.

• Discuss the next steps in the data gathering process.

You will want to consider focus groups and interviewing techniques, participants, possible access barriers to people or information, and any other aspects that you think might trip up the project. Remember, you are the consultant hired to

facilitate this, so be creative.

Unit 5 – Theoretical and Conceptual Framework of Needs Assessment Planning Tools

INTRODUCTION

In the Unit 3 introduction, you explored the systemic forces that can impede the change efforts for developing and tackling the problem concept using force field analysis and SWOT analysis. However, the complexity of the needs-based issues and planning requires the development of a balanced SAF.

To develop such a balanced SAF, it must be informed by the theoretical and conceptual framework of needs assessment planning tools and data gathering. While the theoretical framework reflects the broader aspects of the needs-based issues as informed by the literature reviewed or sources of community data gathered during the previous unit, the conceptual framework focuses on the narrow aspect of the needs-based issues that define the problem concept.

The framework for theorizing and conceptualizing the needs assessment planning will thus require a combined analytic efforts if a balanced SAF can be established to better shape the problem concept. Such combined analytic efforts may not only use force field analysis and SWOT analysis, but also can determine the needs-based factors using fishbone analytic charts and PEST analysis.

The fishbone analytic chart depicting the skeleton of a fish is a diagram used to identify and categorize the probable causes of the problem concept. The PEST analysis, which is used to identify the macro-environmental factors outside an organization but inherent in the community, can thus implicate the problem concept of the service delivery systems of the organization, representing political, economic, social, and technological issues.

The PEST is, however, also known by other families of analytic acronyms such as PESTLE, STEP, or SLEPT analysis. PESTLE represents analysis for political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental aspects of a needs-based situation.

STEP is basically a rearrangement of the PEST, and so is SLEPT a rearrangement of PESTLE analysis but with the exception of its environmental aspect.

Thus, there are other variations of the PEST analytic tool but their underlying premises are quite similar. However, the Lovebug analytic diagrammatic framework can prove to be more suitable in the facilitation of the combined analytic efforts for establishing the balanced SAF. For instance, the Lovebug diagram is a systemic-focused approach that combines force field analysis and fishbone analytic chart coupled with some aspects of the PEST or PESTLE with implied implications of the SWOT analysis.

Therefore, by using the variations or combined needs-based analytic tools can aid in assessing and gathering relevant data that structure the SAF of public or community needs assessment and planning. Note that the relevant data can be qualitative or quantitative or both, and hence, other data gathering tools such as survey, interviews with focus group, and success and concept mapping might be required. These topics will be explored in the next unit.

OBJECTIVES

To successfully complete this learning unit, you will be expected to:

1. Explore needs-based theorization and conceptualization for developing a balanced situational analysis framework.

2. Examine methods of predictive database use to inform public needs assessment projects.

3. Explore various situational analysis framework analytic tools used for needs-based prioritization that incorporate community input for needs assessment projects.

4. Assess methods of needs definition and prioritization that reflect diverse public values in public needs assessments.

5. Identify appropriate roles for the public and government in public needs assessment and planning.

Final Exam Reflective Writing

In the Reflective Writing you will be expected to support your enlightened opinion with your understanding of the readings throughout the class. This is designed to be a critical thinking activity, and not a regurgitation of class material. If in the case you need to cite an outside source and/or current event, please cite it using APA format. This Reflective Writing is to be a minimum of 350 words and no more than 700 words. Failure to meet the minimum word requirement or go over the maximum will result in a loss of points. Only portions of the response that are substantively related to the question and

materials will count towards the minimum word requirement. Avoid a lengthy introduction/especially rephrasing questions (get to the point and show you have thought about what you write) and avoid the use of vague open ended rhetorical questions to pad your response. At the end of your Reflective Writing include the word count.

Grading will be based on your ability to;

1) identify and explain the issue(s) you are addressing and who is interested and who is affected by them,

2) evaluate the empirical evidence and make appropriate theoretical conclusions that support your perspective, and

3) support your position.

A rubric for the Reflective Writing Assignment is set out here: Final Exam Reflective Writing F.1 Instructions and Rubric.docx download

Prompt:

What is “social justice” in the arena of criminal justice?
