Topic:  Film industry in Madagascar

The cinema of Madagascar refers to the  fi industry in Madagascar. The most notable director is Raymond  Rajaonarivelo, director of movies such as Quand Les Etoiles Rencontrent  La Mer (When the Stars Meet the Sea) and Tabataba (The Spreading of  Rumors). The oldest cinematographic production entirely produced in  Madagascar by a Malagasy is a 22 minutes black and white movie entitled  Rasalama Martiora. Directed in 1937 by the deacon Philippe Raberojo, it  marked the centenary of the death of the Protestant martyr Rafaravavy  Rasalama….. more

Writing the Research Paper

Writing the research paper is simply a matter of adding flesh to the  bones created by the outline. Many writers get stuck by starting at the  top and attempting to write the introduction first. Yet, the  introduction addresses what is in the body, so it is wiser to create the  body of the paper first by fleshing out the background and the  supporting data sections.  It is not unusual to build the sections with  sentence fragments of data as you organize your information. you can  then go back and work them into complete sentences and paragraphs. Once  they are complete, write the introduction and conclusion last.

The paper will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Structure

  • The paper must include all sections specified in the paragraph chart in the assignment description.
  • Use subheadings to organize each section of the paper to ensure they are there.

Content

  • The paper must be a research-based analysis of a phenomena related to African Humanities.
  • The paper must have a thesis statement. Put it in bold or italics so it is obvious and easy to find.
  • The data in the body of the paper must support the thesis statement in the introduction.
  • The paper must use terms & concepts  presented in the course. These are words and phrases in bold and  italics throughout the web lessons. Use bold or italics to make them  stand out in your paper. For example, if your paper is addressing the  how a food with African origins, such as coffee, has influenced  beverages throughout the world, you should use terms and concepts from  the Globalization & Diaspora lesson.

Writing Style

  • The paper should use declarative sentences; avoid ‘I think,’ slang, tangents
  • Do not editorialize; this is not an essay.
  • The  paper should not promote stereotypes, misinformation or generalizations  about African people. If you are going to address topics such as  violence, oppression, etc., it is important to situate the phenomena in  its social and historical contexts.
  • Use transition sentences to connect your paragraphs.
  • Write authoritatively. You have done scholarly research on this topic, so write like an expert.
  • READ THE PAPER ALOUD. It should sound as though you are addressing a large audience.

Spelling and Grammar

  • Always conduct a spellcheck before submitting a paper.
  • Read aloud to check for grammatical errors.
  • Use an online grammar check such as www.grammarly.com for assistance.

Referencing

  • There must be at least five scholarly references in the bibliography.
  • There must be in-text referencing within the body of the paper.
  • The bibliography must be properly formatted using any citation style.
  • Failure to include references and in-text citations will result in an automatic ‘0’.

Formatting

The paper should be formatted to the following criteria:

  • minimum five pages (2,500 words) double-spaced (it is OK to go over)
  • Times New Roman, 12 point font
  • one-inch margins
  • no extra spaces between paragraphs
  • name date and title in header
  • title page is not required and does not count toward five page minimum
  • references should be on a separate page and it does not count toward five page minimum.

Chief Complaint: A young boy was admitted for severe second- and third-degree burns after spilling boiling water on his entire body.

History: Johnny Williams, a 10-year-old white male, was transported by ambulance to the emergency room after being burned from spilling a large pot of boiling water on his body. His mother had been cooking dinner for a large group of people at their church and turned her back just long enough for Johnny to pull the pot over on himself.

In the emergency room, Johnny was unconscious. He had second-degree burns over 8% of his body and third-degree burns over 17% of his body — both covering his thoracic and abdominal regions and his left elbow. His vital signs were quite unstable: blood pressure = 54 / 34; heart rate = 212 beats / min.; and respiratory rate = 39 breaths / min. He was struggling from circulatory failure. Two IVs were inserted and fluids were administered through each. His vital signs stabilized and he was transported to the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU).

Johnny regained consciousness later that evening, complaining of only minor pain over his trunk. Following debridement of his burns and application of a broad-spectrum, topical antibiotic, a plastic epidermal graft was applied over the burned areas. Despite treatment with a broad-spectrum antibiotic, he developed a systemic staphylococcal infection, necessitating a switch to a different antibiotic.

Johnny began a long, slow recovery. His position in bed had to be changed every 2 hours to prevent the formation of decubitus ulcers (i.e. bedsores). He lost nearly 10 pounds over the next several weeks, despite nasogastric tube feeding of 5500 calories (“Kcals”) per day. After 9 weeks, sheets of cultured epidermal cells were grafted to his regenerating dermal layer. By the 14th week of his hospitalization, his epidermal graft was complete, and he was back on solid foods, his antibiotics were discontinued, and he was discharged from the hospital with a rehabilitation plan for both physical and occupational therapy at home, as well as twice-weekly visits by a nurse.

1-Describe the three major layers that make up normal, healthy skin. Include their location, their primary functions, the tissues that they are made up of, and any additional important information. ?

2-Major burn injuries need to be taken seriously not only for the cosmetic reasons, but also because this type of injury can lead to shock and even death. How does a burn injury affect the capillaries, in turn leading to shock?

3-What was the purpose of immediately administering the IV fluids to Johnny? How could this have saved his life?

4-Why do you think Johnny lost 10 pounds of weight so quickly, even though he was on a 5500 calorie/day diet?

5-Aside from the physical appearance, what do you expect Johnny might have problems with in the future due to the scar tissue over his left elbow and abdominal and thoracic regions?

TED TALK PRESENTATION!

This is the final week of the course. In this week’s lessons, you learned about culture and change. These, along with the other weekly concepts, are topics that we face frequently throughout our career. Your final project is to create a “TedTalk” formatted presentation based on any of the concepts learned this term.

Your work should include the following:

·  Create a 10-minute minimum presentation that follows a TedTalk format.

·  Your presentation should consist of an introduction to the topic that engages the audience.

This week we wrap up the course with discussion pertaining to culture and change. This is one of my favorite topics to discuss as it can be very controversial and really gets everyone talking in the forums. When some hear the word culture, they think of nationality and diversity. However, when we discuss culture this week, we are discussing it based on corporate culture and why it is important to pick employees for your organization that truly fit the mold of the organization. Personality, values, and perception all play a role in this. Culture is often developed with the mission and vision of the organization in mind. Though culture may change, it often stays true to the vision and mission of the organization overall. Think about the current culture of your organization. Do you feel that those hired are often a good fit creating minimal turnover? Is there improvement that could be valuable for a positive change to the organization? How do you handle change? As an organization grows, it’s culture and how it values the employees is vital to its success.

·  All presentations must be recorded. You may use a cell phone, laptop, or video camera to record your presentation.

·  You may consider a backdrop that engages the audience.

·  Professionalism and creativity should be used.

Read the case study below regarding capital-budgeting techniques. In a paper of between 750 and 1475 words (3 to 5 pages), address the questions that follow the case study.

Case Study: Alexander & Sons

Alexander & Sons Company is currently considering the purchase of equipment that produces mugs.

  • The equipment needed would cost $3 million, with a disposal value of $400,000.
  • The equipment would be able to produce 55 million mugs over its 5-year life.

The company has estimated that approximately 11 million mugs would be sold for each of the next 5 years, at the following prices:

  • $1.00 for year 1 and 2
  • $1.20 for year 3 and 4
  • $1.25 for year 5

The company would hire seven new employees.

  • These seven individuals would be full-time employees.
  • Each will work 2,000 hours per year and earn:
    • $31 per hour in the first 3 years.
    • $32 per hour in year 4 and 5.

All employees would also receive annual benefits making up 20 percent of wages, in addition to an annual $10,000 cost for health benefits for each employee.

It is estimated that:

  • The raw materials needed will cost 0.50 per mug.
  • Other variable costs would be 0.20 per mug.
  • No additional fixed costs would be incurred if this project is accepted.

The company’s discount rate is 10 percent, and the current tax rate of 35 percent is anticipated to remain unchanged. The company uses the straight-line method for depreciation.

Case Study Questions

Based on the above information, calculate the following items:

  • Annual net cash flows over the expected life of the equipment
  • Payback period
  • Net present value
  • The accounting rate of return

Would you recommend the acceptance of this project? Explain your analysis fully, based on the calculations you have made as well data-informed strategic planning principles.

Be sure to:

  • Follow accepted research approaches and citation format (APA style).
  • Convey your understanding of the readings and concepts and their application to the topic.
  • Write in an organized and coherent way.
  • Check for and correct spelling, sentence structure, and grammatical errors.
  • Demonstrate graduate-level analytical skills. [MO7.2, MO7.3, MO7.4]

journal entry#1

you can discuss concepts that were unfamiliar until now or make connections between various concepts, ideas, debates and evidence being discussed in the course over time. Include the following elements:

Describe the course content you will be reflecting on (readings for this week, videos, lectures, discussions) by providing a brief overview. For example, for assigned readings, discuss the key arguments and conclusions. Analyze by considering the strengths and the weaknesses of the content being reflected upon?

Reflect on the content: What are your reactions to the content?

What are your feelings about your experience in the course and with the content?

Reflect on your Learning: What you have learned?

Can you demonstrate an improved awareness and self-development because of the learning situation?

What can be concluded in a general and specific sense from this situation/experience and the analyses you have undertaken?

These assignments require that you write a journal reflection of what you have learned in the course for this week. The purpose of this assignment is to ensure you are processing your thoughts on the course content. This will enhance your learning and knowledge. This reflection journal is private. None of your peers will be able to see it. Although an informal writing assignment, you should use APA referencing and reference page when you are describing and paraphrasing from the course content. • Typically, journals are no more than 2 pages in length.

1IT 202 Project One Organizational Needs

Overview

For the purposes of this assignment, imagine that you are a systems  architect at a medium-sized publishing company with 103 employees. The  company primarily publishes books, both in print and online. It also  produces other kinds of content, such as audiobooks, interactive reading  material, and magazines. Your leadership has decided that it is time to  either upgrade the current OS or adopt a new one (e.g., Windows, Linux,  macOS).

As the systems architect, you have the responsibility to determine  which OS the company should implement for each department. There are  many aspects to consider when making this decision, including what  existing applications are used by employees on a frequent basis, cost,  functionality provided, performance, vendor support, and so on. To  determine which OS should be implemented, you need to complete a site  survey first. Later, the site survey can be used to help you make a  decision as to which operating systems to implement based on what is  currently used in the department. For this activity, you will conduct a  site survey. This is also a step that you will need to take when you  submit Project One in Module Four. The feedback that you receive after  submitting this activity should be implemented as you craft your Project  One submission.

Prompt

Complete a Site Survey: A site survey compares the  three different operating systems that the company is planning to  implement. To complete this task, use the Project One Site Survey  Template linked in the Supporting Materials area. Specifically, you must  address the following rubric criteria:

  • Operating Systems: Acknowledge what OSes are  already used in your site survey. The type of OS already used and how  many employees are using it can influence your decision making.
  • Server: Determine whether the desktops are on a hardware or cloud-based server.
    • Although not required in this portion of the project, you may want  to think about whether or not the server should be changed. This change  could be recommended in your proposal.
  • Standard Hardware for Operating System Types: Determine the minimum required hardware. This could include desktop and server.
  • Network Connection: Determine whether the network is wired or wireless.

    • You will want to think about whether or not the network connection  should be changed. This change could be recommended in your proposal.
  • Applications: Identify what software applications  need to be supported by the OS. Your survey of what applications desktop  users use most frequently will influence your decision making, as some  applications are not supported by certain OSes.

business Week 8

Learning Activity #1

Ethics: A Personal Perspective, Part II

In your first Learning Activity for week 1 you discussed some things that come to mind when you think of the word “ethics.” Over the course of the past 8 weeks, has your view or conception of ethics changed in any way? If yes, is there a specific moment you can identify and describe that triggered the change (a reading(s), or posting(s), discussion(s) with colleague(s) for example)? If your view or conception did not change, why do you think this is the case? How can what you learned in the course be applied in your professional and/or personal life?

Learning Activity #2

Business Codes of Ethics: Much Ado About Nothing, or the Real Deal

“Starbucks Code of Behavior” discusses the approaches and provisions this company has utilized in its attempts to establish a credible ethical environment. There seems to be a divergence of opinion on the value or lack thereof of a business code of ethics.  Some have argued that business codes of ethics have little value or utility and are merely for public show and consumption.  According to these proponents, corporations merely pay lip service to their codes of ethics.  On the other hand, it has been argued that business codes of ethics are an essential and vital part of the ethical fabric of corporations.

Using the aforementioned article as a starting point, what is your perspective on the value or lack thereof of a business code of ethics? Do you think such a code is merely for public show and consumption? Do you think a corporation simply pays lip service to its code of ethics?   Why do you feel this way?
