week six case analysis

Each student will treat this as an individual assignment. Your response should be well-rounded and analytical and should not just provide a conclusion or an opinion without explaining the reason for the choice. For full credit, you need to use the material from the week’s lectures, text and/or discussions when responding to the questions. Post a case analysis of a listed problem for the week in the corresponding weeks assignment drop box. The case assignments are posted below in the Case Assignments.

The assignment should consist of a Word Document. It should include a summary of the relevant facts, the law, judicial opinion and answer the case questions. All that is necessary for an understanding of the case is important and required.

The report must go beyond the discussion of the problem posed in the textbook, to achieve a superior grade. Do research outside the textbook- this must include research outside the case citation such as the Lexus-Nexis in the DeVry Library or FindLaw.com, do research on the parties and circumstances of the case itself and incorporate some visual modality as a part of the case analysis. Something about one of the parties, as well as some background contained in the legal opinion. Doing significant research outside the textbook is essential.

Utilize the case format below.

How may the availability heuristic account for our perception of violence?

CRYS

1. The availability heuristic is a mental shortcut that someone makes in their memory that relies on examples an individual has stored in their memory as an immediate example. This also includes present decisions one may make based on memories of similar situations from the past. A lot of life decisions are made from vivid information stashed away in our brain bank. For instance, if you win a nice amount of money on a scratch off lottery ticket, you may think your luck has finally arrived. This may prompt one to make the decision to buy even more tickets based off of the one big win. It’s a misleading situation for the mind.

Availability heuristic accounts for our perception of violence in mass amount these days. You can’t turn on the tv now without some sort of violence or news of violent actions that have taken place in our country. Our perception of violence is on high alert because violence is traumatic. For example, if I were jogging in my neighborhood and witnessed the same pickup truck passing by me several times that I have never seen before, my mind may automatically jump to a forensic files episode I saw last week that was based around women being kidnapped. Situations like this may sway my decisions as to if or when I decide to go jogging in my neighborhood. So, these mental shortcuts we form in our memories determine a lot of aspects in our lives. Especially when it comes to dangerous or violent situations.

OLI

2.

The availability heuristic is defined as thought shortcuts that help to make judgements based on information and experiences that quickly come to mind. Due to our world revolving around mass media, we tend to absorb more bad news than good news because we are almost always presented with violence and devastation. This becomes imprinted in our brains to make us feel like violence and chaos is a lot more common in the world than it actually is, which in turn causes widespread fear across the country. When we think of violence, we often think of the worst and most frequent violent events that may be exaggerated in the mind, which increases the fear of the situation.

When we are extensively and regularly exposed to violence via the media, we can become desensitized to cruel behaviors. It is said that people of the Western civilization have become so conditioned to the suffering of humans that we are essentially immune to the fear that is felt when presented with violence. This can create major social issues since the normalization of violence seems to be growing each day. When an individual is so emotionally detached from feeling any remorse for human suffering, they may begin to carry out their own acts of violence that feeds a different type of excitement. Since we have a lot more personal freedoms in America, weapons are very accessible and attainable and so are vast amounts of information. In this day and age, it is extremely easy to carry out violent and harmful acts as the amount of anger and hate people give off directly influences that.

SOCW 6311 Week 2 Discussion Post – Generating Support for Evidence-Based Practices

Discussion: Generating Support for Evidence-Based Practices

When treating clients, social workers must ensure that the evidence-based practice is appropriate for the client and the problem. Then, the social worker must get the client and other stakeholders to support the selected evidence-based practice. To earn that support, the social worker should present the client and stakeholders with a plan for implementation and evidence of the evidence-based practice efficacy and appropriateness. Social workers must demonstrate that they have carefully considered the steps necessary to implement the evidence-based practice, identified factors in the current environment that support implementation of the evidence-based practice, and addressed those factors that may hinder the successful implementation.

For this week’s Discussion, you will take on the role of the social worker in the Levy case study. You will choose an evidence-based practice and attempt to gain the support of both the client and supervisor. To do so, you will address its efficacy, appropriateness, and factors that may impact implementation of the evidence-based practice that you chose.

To prepare for this Discussion, review Levy Episode 2. Then using the registries provided in this week’s resources and the Walden Library, locate an evidence-based practice that you believe would be appropriate for Jake’s case. Then, review the Evidence-Based Practice kit for Family Psycho Education from the SAMHSA website from the resources. Note all the steps and considerations involved in implementing the evidence-based practice and which of these considerations apply to this case. Consider issues such as agency support, resources, and costs that might support or limit the application of the evidence-based intervention that you select.

Provide a 500-word discussion Post detailing the following content, headings, and details:

–  An evaluation of the evidence-based practice that you selected for Jake.

– Describe the practice and the evidence supporting it.

– Explain why you think this intervention is appropriate for Jake.

– Then provide an explanation for the supervisor regarding issues related to implementation.

– Identify two factors that you believe are necessary for successful implementation of the evidence-based practice and explain why.

– Then, identify two factors that you believe may hinder implementation and explain how you might mitigate these factors.

– Be sure to include at least 3 APA references and citations from the following materials.

Socio-Emotional Development

Cultural behaviors and practices vary dramatically around the globe, though no one practice is more effective than the other. These cultural behaviors and practices not only enrich the lives of children but also impact child development, group dynamics, and all aspects related to thinking (e.g., decision making). Thus, all domains of psychology—affective, behavioral, and cognition are impacted by culture.

For this Discussion, you will explore the impact of culture from birth to adolescent’s socio-emotional development. You also will examine cultural practices in childhood development and the impact on adult outcomes.

To Prepare:

  • Different cultural practices in childhood might relate to outcomes in adulthood. Consider one of the following aspects that you have experienced or you may know of an experience for this Discussion:
    • child-rearing practices
    • discipline
    • attachment
    • co-sleeping
    • emotional management
    • peers and play
  • This week’s Learning Resources provide you with different sources related to different cultural practices in childhood. From your readings, select a different culture other than your own to complete this Discussion post.

Post an explanation of how the cultural practice you personally experienced or that you know of an experience from a socio-emotional development perspective is similar to or is different from the practice you read about in your Learning Resources. Further, explain how different cultural practices in childhood regarding this practice might lead to different or similar outcomes in adulthood.

Journal Article Review (Following the Scientific Method)

As a public health professional, you might come across questions or assumptions about a real world health phenomenon. In biostatistics, these questions and assumptions are narrowed down into a research question. Some examples of research questions include: “Does exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) effect brain development in infants and young children?” and “Is there a relationship between low self-esteem and eating disorders?”

In reflecting on a proposed research question and reviewing the literature, researchers form a hypothesis, which is an essential component of the scientific method (Harris, 2014). Once the hypothesis and study methods are formed, data must be collected and analyzed to determine whether the data supports or rejects the hypothesis. The scientific method includes the steps a public health professional or researcher should follow to arrive at the appropriate conclusion about the hypothesis.

Download and read the journal article assigned by your instructor. (They should post it to DocSharing, the Optional Discussion area, an Announcement, or send through email.) Reflect on the steps to the scientific method and how such relates to the study that was conducted.

The Assignment (1–2 pages)
  • Summarize the purpose of the study
  • Identify the stated or implied hypothesis [or expected outcome(s)]
  • Describe the variables examined in the study
  • Summarize the research methodology used in carrying out the study including the following:
    • Study participants
    • Study design utilized
    • Procedures used to gather data
    • Type(s) of statistical analysis/analyses used

Project Quality Management Plan

Project Quality Management (100 points)

Suburban Homes Construction Project Quality Management Plan (QMP)

Prepare a quality management plan using the elements described in the PMBOK 6e (Section 8.1.3.1) for the Suburban Homes Construction Project.

Content (90 points) Over the course the semester you’ve become familiar with the project and as part of the overall project management plan, a quality management plan is needed to communicate how quality will be met to the satisfaction of each stakeholder involved in a typical residential construction project.

You should perform research on quality standards associated with residential construction to determine applicable standards.  At least four (4) quality objectives associated with the project should be defined.

As part of the section on quality tools, include a separate appendix with at least three (3) quality tools that will be used as a part of the project.  These can be drawn from: 1) flow charts, 2) check sheets, 3) Pareto diagrams, 4) histograms, 5) control charts, 6) scatter diagrams, 7) affinity diagrams, 8) process decision programs charts, 9) interrelationship digraphs, 10) tree diagrams, 11) prioritization matrices, 12) activity network diagrams, 13) matrix diagrams, 14) inspections, and 15) statistical sampling.

Last, about 1/3 of the plan should be devoted to major procedures relevant for the project for dealing with non-conformance, corrective actions procedures, and continuous improvement procedures.

If information needed to complete a QMP is not explicitly stated in the scenario description or other project artifacts you’ve created or collected for this scenario in the past units, then develop (make-up) the information you need to complete the plan.  Use tables and illustrations as needed to convey information.

The plan (excluding the separate appendix) should be approximately 4 to 5 pages.

Your Instructor will use Turn-it-in to ensure your paper is authentic work.  To avoid plagiarism, see the course home page for more information and use the Purdue Online Writing Lab to learn how to paraphrase, summarize and cite the references you use in all academic writing assignments.

Mechanics (10 points)  It is expected that each part of this assignment have excellent mechanics (presentation, grammar and spelling) and exhibit the quality of work capable of a group of graduate students and working professionals. All sections of the document submitted must be readable at 100% magnification.  Include any resources used in an APA formatted reference section.

Submit your assignment to the drop box in Moodle

Discussion: The Importance of Relationships 8210

As its name implies, confidence intervals provide a range of values, along with a level of confidence, to serve as an estimate of some unknown population value. Since it is rare to have access to the entire population, you must frequently rely on the confidence interval of the sample to make some inference about the population of interest. Before making accurate inferences to the population, we need to fully understand how the three key components of the interval—variability in the data, sample size, and confidence level—impact the width of the interval.

For this Discussion, you will explore the relationship between these components and understand the trade-off between reducing risk in our confidence of estimates and increasing precision.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapters 6 and 7 of the Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero text and in Chapter 7, p. 188, consider Hispanic migration and earnings and focus on how different levels of confidence and sample size work together.
  • Review Magnusson’s web blog found in the Learning Resources to further your visualization and understanding of confidence intervals.
  • Use the Course Guide and Assignment Help found in this week’s Learning Resources to search for a quantitative article related to confidence intervals.
  • Using the SPSS software, General Social Survey dataset and choose a quantitative variable that interests you.

assignment

Using SPSS:

  1. Take a random sample of 100.
  2. Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the variable.
  3. Calculate a 90% confidence interval.
  4. Take another random sample of 400.
  5. Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the variable.
  6. Calculate a 90% confidence interval.

Post your results, the mean of Age to verify the dataset you used, and an explanation of how different levels of confidence and sample size affect the width of the confidence interval. Next, consider the statement, “Confidence intervals are underutilized” and explain what the implications might be of using or not using confidence intervals. Provide examples based on the results of your data. Also, use your research to support your findings.
