Address the following in a policy proposal in 3-4 pages with 1,500–2,000 words

Another approach to the legislature’s interest in creating alternative approaches to dealing with juvenile offenders that would still be handled via the state court’s system might be a mandatory, court-ordered educational program for juveniles who have been subject to police contact on a first offense. Create a policy proposal for a court-mandated course that would be delivered in a classroom setting for youths ages 12–14 with behavioral problems who are affecting the community—for example, in the schools, in neighborhoods, or in local businesses. Within your policy, incorporate your responses to the following questions:

  • Would this program be limited to juveniles who have been subject to police contact only for certain classes of offenses (e,g., non-violent, property-oriented, status offenses) with more serious offenses handled through a different approach?
  • Would these juveniles still “go through the system” (i.e., be arrested, have a court date for hearing) or would this be a diversion program intended in part to side-step these individuals having a record at such a young age? Explain.
  • How would the administrative office of the courts be involved in the running of this program? Explain.
    • Would it be conducted as part of the ADR “wing” of the office as is a program such as truancy mediation or victim-offender dialogue programs? Explain.
  • Where would the course be offered? Why?
  • What types of people would be considered qualified to conduct/facilitate it? Explain.
    • Are there staff adequately trained already, or would a position have to be opened and staff hired? Explain.
  • Although a complete curriculum would not be part of this proposal, what are the types of topics that would need to be covered?
    • Would the administrative office of the courts have any role in creating the actual content?
    • Would the office oversee creation of the content to ensure its consistency with current law and preferred practices in the state in question?
    • Are there any models out there that could be used that would allow creation of such a program with minimal cost and start-up time?

Week 3 Assignment – Conflicting Viewpoints Essay: Part 1

The assignment is divided into two parts: the prewriting paper (Part 1) due this week, and the essay (Part 2) due in Week 5.
Overview
When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view?
This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking by playing the “Believing Game.” The Believing Game is about making the effort to “believe,” or at least consider, the reasons for an opposing view on an issue.
Instructions

  1. In the Week 2 Discussion, you examined the biases discussed in Chapter 2 of the webtext and reviewed one of the topics from Pros & Cons of Controversial Issues. You may use the same topic from this discussion or find another:
    • Select one of the topics from Pros & Cons of Controversial Issues, state your position on the issue, and identify three premises (reasons) listed under either the Pro or Con section—whichever section opposes your position.
    • For the three premises (reasons) that oppose your position on the issue, answer these “believing” questions suggested by Elbow:
      • What’s interesting or helpful in this view?
      • What would I notice if I believed this view?
      • In what sense or under what conditions might this idea be true?
  2. Read the excerpt about critical thinking processes: The Believing Game and How to Make Conflicting Opinions More Fruitful [PDF].
  3. Engage in prewriting to examine your thoughts.
  4. The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:
  • Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
  • Address the main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
  • Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.
  • This prewriting assignment has no page requirement.
  • There is no requirement at this time to include references in the assignment.
  • This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards. For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in the left-hand menu of your course. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
The specific course learning outcome associated with this assignment:
  • Discuss the premises related to a position on a given issue.

Nursing & Psychology Questions

I need these questions answered in 150 words each with individual references

Surveillance Data

1. If you work in the health care field please provide an example of surveillance data that you or your agency/department/office submits to local, state, or federal agencies. If you do not work with these directly, can you locate an example? If possible, also please include how often a report is submitted and how the information is used.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

3-D Mammography

2. Thank you for discussing validity and sensitivity of mammograms, Doreen.

Many women (43% of women ages 40 to 74 years), myself included, have dense breast tissue which makes identifying abnormal tissue more difficult (Breastcancer.org, 2016). Some solutions include using 3-D mammography or breast ultrasound for regular screening since they can detect more cancers in dense breasts (Breastcancer.org, 2016). These tests can help prevent false-positive tests, which is when a screening test finds an area that looks like cancer but turns out to be normal (Breastcancer.org, 2016).

I have had false positive tests that needed to be repeated, have any of you had any similar experiences?

Mind, body and psychotherapy

3. Well, I have personal confession to make.  Many years ago, my wife an LICSW, did a number of workshops with Jon Kabat Zinn on mindfulness.  Well, I was probably and associate professor at the time heavily committed to quantitative analysis, evidenced based practice and being an all-around hard scientist (i.e, annoying). As a result of which, I condescendingly  ignored what my wife was learning in her mindfulness workshops.  Then years later, did some workshops with Steve Hayes, (ACT) with an number of other ACT practitioners.  I discovered mindfulness!.  My wife was much more forgiving about my new found meaning of mindfulness! (Well, mostly forgiving).

When I work my horse, play tennis, and play music, I practice mindfulness.

The problem with alternative therapies

An Article is Attached

4. As we think about the question posed by this DQ, it is important to think critically about “alternative therapies”.

The opening line of the attached article on pseudoscience and psychiatry is:

“As Nobel prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman reminded us, “the first principel is that you must not fool yourself, and your are the easiet person to fool.”

Psychology and particularly psychotherapy has historically been plagued by pseudoscientific therapies and charlatans. Our job as scientists is to think critically and separate the wheat from the chaff.

Your thoughts?

to write a two page essay in MLA format using rhetorical analysis

Choose an advertisement or public service announcement of any length that discusses or works to solve a Human Rights issue that matters to you and write a 2+ page essay that analyzes how the video uses rhetoric (logos, pathos, and ethos) to convince the audience to buy the product, support the cause, or believe in the idea discussed in the video. Your essay should include an additional page that features a Work Cited page where you cite the video you chose to write about.

Note: you should not use “I” or “you” in this essay (other than in the thesis model provided in the lectures that you are asked to use in this course).

Some topic choices (listed in no particular order) are: mental health, racism, poverty, food / water insecurity, refugees, health/health care, womens rights, stereotyping, LGBTQ+ rights, and environmental issues.

Practice:
You might find this essay easier to write if you do the following before selecting a topic and beginning the first drafts of your essay:

  • Watch the following video which serves as an excellent example for what your video selection could/should look like for this essay. You may not use this video when writing your essay: https://youtu.be/CqQTQbTO2Pc
  • Look for examples of logos, pathos, and ethos in the commercial. Write down each example as you see it — even if you aren’t sure which is logos, pathos, or ethos; you can identify these pieces from the commercial as logos, pathos, or ethos after you’ve taken note of them.
  • Decipher what the commercial is trying to do. Is this commercial trying to get you to donate, advocate, and volunteer? If so, then is it effective in doing so? If so, select examples of logos, pathos, and ethos that are especially convincing for you.
  • Practice building a thesis statement that analyzes the commercial according to the lecture provided using the notes above that you’ve taken after watching the video a few times.

Think-Tank Organization

 Project 2 – Research Paper

No directly quoted material may be used in this project paper.

Background:

You are employed on the staff of the Association for Municipal Cities, a “think-tank” organization of researchers who take on projects for various mayors and city managers. You specialize in research on the organization and operation of the police department. The Associations’ latest client is the City of Virtual.

The Virtual City Police Department was created 63 years ago. The department has emerged as one of the primary policing agencies in the state. It has become a modern police department with 155 sworn officers. There are 70 civilian employees appointed to positions ranging from clerical support to correctional officers to crime scene technicians. The department is considered “medium” size in the spectrum of police departments across the country. (The organizational chart is the same as the chart for Project 1.)

The Mayor of the City of Virtual and the Chief of the Virtual City Police Department are considering adopting Conducted Energy Weapons for use by the members of the Virtual Police Department. As there are significant concerns with these weapons, the Mayor and Chief want to have a full understanding of the issues related to using Conducted Energy Weapons,

The Mayor has asked the Association to prepare a literature-research position paper for her on moving forward with this proposal (or not) based on the pros and cons uncovered in your research. She may ultimately use this objective research document as part of her portfolio on the appropriate use of technology in support of public safety.

Conducted Energy Weapons are more commonly known by the brand name of TASER, which is sold by a company known as Axon. However, there are many manufactures making these weapons.

This paper is intended for the Mayor to decide whether or not to implement a Conducted Energy Weapon program so there is no reason to recommend a specific device for adoption.

Clearly, should the Mayor decide to adopt a Conducted Energy Weapon program, the Use of Force polices and training must be updated. This also does not need to be discussed in the paper.

Assignment:

As a member of the staff of the Association for Municipal Cities, you have been assigned to prepare a research paper for the Mayor of Virtual City on implementing a Conducted Energy Weapon program for the Virtual City Police Department. She has asked that you present both the pros and cons as objectively as possible.

Your personal recommendation is not part of this research report.

In this instance, the cost is not an issue.

Formatting requirements – Your report should include:

  • The Project must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document
  • a cover page with your name, project title, course, and date submitted
  • Paper must be double spaced, 11 or 12 pt font and 1” margins all around.
  • All APA 7th edition format requirements must be followed (cover page, in text citations, reference page). Refer to APA/UMGC – learning resources found in the content page of this course.
  • You must have resources to support your thoughts/opinions/information.  These must be cited both in text as well as at the end of the document. Your paper should not contain direct quotes and sourced material must be paraphrased.
  • At least 4 external sources; 2 supporting police use of Conducted Energy Weapons and 2 against them.

Forum for Hazard Research Presentations

Every student needs to prepare and verbally present one hazard research report during the semester. The objective of this activity is for students to get to know one another personally, discuss science in a fun context, and earn science discussion credit. A Hazard Research Presentation is a 5+ minute presentation. It is okay to go over the 5 minute mark by a short period, but please do not present for less than 5 minutes.

The topic of a Hazard Research Presentation needs to fit within one of the topics covered in the course (see schedule below—note that weather events like tornados and hurricanes and fires are NOT a topic in this course—to learn about these please take the dynamic atmosphere course.)

The student should select a major hazardous event that occurred either in their hometown or in a location especially meaningful to the student or their family. It is okay if the event to predates your birth. Please try to chose an event that no one else will present on. For this reason, the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake is off-limits. Please email your instructor for assistance choosing an event, if it is difficult to think up a unique idea.

Please keep in mind that this presentation should include geologic information that is uncovered by researching the event! Please keep your personal account to the first slide, to allow time for the science. Each presentation is worth 10-16 points total, depending on whether you chose a vitual or live option. The LIVE option earns more credit for less effort.

Each presentation should rely on lots of impressive visual photos and figures and maps. Please include a minimum of 5 slides including the following information:

1) Title / Introduction Slide—Discussion of the memorable event. When, What, Where? Tell us the story. Why did you chose this location? What happened? Recollect your personal experience of the event, the personal experience of a family member, and / or reports recorded by witnesses of the event. Please include a map of the region, including the nearest city impacted. (2 points)

2) Slide Two—Tectonic Setting of the chosen region. Where is the site of the hazard located with respect to the nearest plate boundary? Describe the plate boundary—what type of forces are present and what type of faults are most common given that plate boundary type? What is the rate of relative plate motion? Show us a map of the local and regional tectonic setting at this location. (2 points)

3) Geologic Setting—Describe the landforms… Is there a major river, mountain range, lake, volcano, ocean, etc.? How were these landforms created? What are the main rock types mapped in your area? Why are these rocks present and how did those rocks form? What is the long term history of geologic hazards at this location? Be sure to include vivid and information visuals. (2 points)

4) Cause of this Geologic Hazard—what happened to cause the incident and why? Please describe the chain of events from a science concept and geologic standpoint. [For example, if the event was a post-fire debris flow the chain of events probably is: a) the steep slope formed slowly over time, b) fire destroyed vegetation on this slope, c) roots that hold the soil together died off, d) major precipitation occurred, which rapidly coalesced on the ground as surface flow, e) surface water captured all the soil and rapidly moved it down the nearest channel is a massive slurry, e) this debris flow impacted houses and residents downstream.] (2 points)

5) What did geologists learn about geology from this event? How did the community adapt its safety plans since this event? What changes have people and businesses made to address future risk of similar hazards? (2 points)

What’s the basis for human sexuality?

What’s the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity?

How is sexuality linked to other forms of inequality and how are attitudes about human sexuality changing? Why? How?

(550 words min and I will give you the two replyes later and plz send me back with at least 5 more sentenses each)

respond no1.

Human sexual behavior is based on physiology and psychology. Physiological basis, that is, the regulation and control of sex hormones in receptors, is also affected by many other factors such as physical conditions and drugs. On the other hand, human sexual behavior is influenced and controlled by psychological, social and cultural factors. In a certain social and historical context, human sexual behavior usually conforms to the social concept of sex at that time. Throughout history, society’s attitude towards sex is like a continuum. One end of the spectrum is based on the attitude of sexual imprisonment and strict control of sexual behavior, while the other end is based on the attitude of sexual indulgence, sexual liberation and advocating complete sexual freedom. These two extreme attitudes are harmful to people’s physical and mental health and the healthy development of society. Sexual psychology is to study the influence of the development of human sexual behavior and sexual civilization on modern human sexual behavior from the psychological point of view, theory and method, and to study human sexual physiological development, sexual psychological development, gender role socialization process, marriage, family and sexual health, etc. Sexual psychology refers to the psychological state and process related to sexual characteristics, sexual desire and sexual behavior on the basis of sexual physiology. It also includes the psychological state of communication with the opposite sex, marriage and love. Sexual physiology is the biological basis of the development of sexual psychology. The obstacles or defects in the development of sexual physiology will make the development of sexual psychology deviate. Sexual mental health is an important part of human health that can not be ignored, and it is getting more and more attention.

The difference between sexual orientation and gender identity is that sexual orientation is a kind of sexual preference that has nothing to do with gender. It refers to the tendency of physical and psychological impulses caused by what kind of people you are attracted to, who you like to have intimate sex with and which type of people. For example, they prefer men, women, fat, thin, tall or short and so on. Under this big concept, including what we usually call homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality and so on. It is generally believed that sexual orientation is not a subjective and deliberate choice. The reasons may include many factors, including heredity, psychology and environment. Gender identity is the subjective feeling of self psychology: “I am a man, or a woman, neither male nor female, or dynamic change”. A disposition that is recognized in one’s heart and verified by one’s personal experience. The identified gender may be different from the physiological gender, including the individual’s cognition of his body and other gender related expressions, such as dress, accent and other manners.

Sex is associated with other forms of inequality through different manifestations. In the law of nature, the male animal is the one who takes the initiative in sex, while the female animal is the one who accepts passively. The male provides sperm and the female receives sperm. This active passive relationship is determined by evolution. In the past, our attitudes towards sex were simple and even interesting. In primitive society, sex had a high degree of freedom, and had no sense of shame, but was related to the meaning of celebration, reproduction and growth. Many ancient ethnic groups still keep the tradition of letting unmarried young men and women know each other and send their Keepsake during the celebration, which can be seen as the ritual version of collective wild. When people have more delicate psychological feelings, the act of casually expressing their sexuality to others will really make people who do not want to feel threatened. At that time, sexual expression began to become less straightforward and barbaric. With the further development of civilization, almost all countries in the world began to strengthen social order and national rule through ethics. In this process, human nature and freedom began to be further suppressed or even suppressed. People began to suppress their sexual expressions and thoughts in order to enjoy a decent social citizenship role. From this point on, it seems that decent people have nothing to do with sex, only despicable people have something to do with “lechery”. Since then, sex has been given a lot of dirty meanings. As a result, “sex” seems to disappear in the open mind, and the legitimate reason for the two people’s Union seems to be only love and inheritance.

respond no.2

A person’s sexual feelings, behaviors, and attractions towards other people are the basis for their sexuality. Sexuality refers to how a person finds other people attractive either physically, sexually, or emotionally. Sexuality is an important element of every human being and it is diverse and personal.  Human sexuality refers to how individuals experience and/or express themselves sexually. This may be through emotional, social, spiritual, or biological feelings and behaviors. There is no single definition for the basis for human sexuality but the bonds between an individual and how they are expressed through physical manifestations or profound feelings are the building blocks of sexuality. Human sexuality is one of the fundamental elements of a person that drive their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.

Sexual orientation refers to the identity of a person regarding the gender or genders to which they are sexually attracted. It is an enduring pattern of romantic or sexual attraction the persons of the same sex or gender, opposite sex or gender, or to both sexes or more than one gender. Sexual orientation is about who an individual is attracted to and wants to have a relationship with. Examples of sexual orientations are lesbian, straight, bisexual, and gay. Sexual orientation is concerned with who the individual feels drawn to sexually, emotionally, and romantically. The sexual orientation of a person has nothing to do with their gender and the two are entirely different. Gender identity on other hand refers to an individual’s personal sense of having a particular gender. This is also referred to as the personal sense of one’s own gender. Gender identity may be in correlation with an individual’s assigned sex at birth or can be different from it. Gender identity describes the personal conception that someone has as male or female. The deep-held inner feelings of whether one is male or female, both or neither, is the gender identity of a person and it is not seen by others. It is a description of how an individual experiences their own gender regardless of what society expects. Gender identity comprises the feelings that one has inside and how they are expressed through behavior, personal appearance, and clothing.

Sexual inequality is linked to other forms of inequality due to the discrimination, problems, and bullying, and violence that come with the difference in sexualities. Sexual identity, sexual contact, or perceived sexual orientation or membership in a sexual category or sexual culture has been a cause for stigma, violence, discrimination, and social advantage faced by individuals. Just like other forms of inequality, sexual inequality creates the phenomenon of unjust or unequal distribution of resources and opportunities among the members of society. Attitudes about human sexuality are continuing to change over the years as more people are moving towards the get acceptance of the freedom of identity and expression of sexuality of a person. For example, LGBTI people are receiving increased freedom in expressing their diversity in many countries and communities even though they still face abuse, violence, and discrimination in others as they do not fit into the expectations of those societies. There are many reasons for the change in attitudes towards human sexuality and one of the main reasons includes generational shifts.

Fusion Centers

This week we explored how local law enforcement agencies with the help of the federal government created a network of databases called fusion centers, after 9/11.  Fusion centers were used to gather information and prevent future acts of terrorism in the United States.  Ultimately, fusion centers are a way to share suspicious activities across the nation and alert local authorities before an attack happens.

Use the information learned in this week’s reading along with the additional reading material (below) to complete this week’s assignment.

Preparing Your Home, Family, and Business for Terrorist Attacks

https://pittenger.house.gov/sites/pittenger.house.gov/files/terrorism%20preparedness%20manual.pdf

Scenario:

You are a sergeant with the New York Police Department and have been assigned to work at the local fusion center. While working in the fusion center, a police officer calls in with information from a reliable Confidential Informant (C.I.).  The C.I. told the officer that there might be a possible domestic terror attack at the Outdoor Fun-in-the-Sun Concert being held in a couple of months in West Palm Beach, Florida.  The C.I. also said the perpetrators talked about placing bombs in strategic areas around the stage and on boats in the nearby water.

Do not panic; there is a couple of months before the planned attack, which gives you time to prepare a PowerPoint presentation.

Assignment:

In a Voice Over – PowerPoint – with a minimum of 5-informational slides, along with a title slide and reference slide.  All informational slides should contain a minimum of 100 words, the fourth slide will be a Public Service Announcement, which addresses the community, and the first slide is the title slide; the last slide will contain your references.

(the title and reference slides do not go toward your word count).  Your voice over should give the presentation but not just read the slides – remember the slides are just an overview for your audience. The presentation should address the different agencies (e.g., first-responders and others entities that you plan on warning about the possible attack). It is advised to use the free program Screencast-o-Matic to create your screencast recording.

In your PowerPoint

·  Explain how you learned of the possible attack.

·  Address the specific entities that you will notify of the possible attack, for example, firefighters, utility companies, event personnel, local law enforcement, and others (and what their role is during this event).

·  Recognize what you precautions could be taken to identify and prevent the attack.

·  Public Service Announcement – Determine what preparedness measures could be made to minimize casualties if the bombs were to discharge; keep in mind, you are addressing the community where people live, work, and go to school – be cautious to alert but not alarm the citizens and encourage people to attend the event because tourism is a large

part of this community’s livelihood.
