Module 4 – Case

REVISING THE DSP RESEARCH PROSPECTUS

Assignment Overview

Within Module Case 4 you will conduct a peer-review of a fellow classmate’s DSP prospectus (Chapters 1-3). The Peer Review Process is an essential activity within the academic community. The process assists in quality assurance and a formal/critical review of scholarly writing and research. The peer-review process also allows for additional viewpoints and critiques of one’s academic work to aid and assist within the editing and content continuous improvement of one’s scholarly writing.

Case Assignment

It is very important that you provide the author with constructive criticism and structure on improving the DSP prospectus. In your review, it is essential to know what specific changes you would like to see based on the peer-review template that is provided. It is not enough to just point out potential problems with the proposed study. Highlight the problematic areas that you feel are critical and must be addressed. Where possible, provide suggestions or references on how to overcome these obstacles.

Provide review feedback of your assigned peer-DSP prospectus based on the following areas:

1. Conceptual Significance
The work represents an important contribution to knowledge. It extends or challenges present causal assumptions in the IS theory or knowledge base. It uses theories from IS or reference disciplines to explain the relationships among variables in the study. Ties to relevant literature are clear as is the thrust of the central argument. The work explicates underlying assumptions well and provides direction for extending or improving on the present research.

2. Practical Significance
The work contributes to our understanding of current technological and organizational problems or challenges faced by IS or other practitioners. In presenting an interesting paradigm or data analysis technique, it maintains readership interest.

3. Conduct of Research
Methods, subjects, and techniques are well suited to the exploration of the research questions. Where relevant, the work demonstrates appropriate operationalization of conceptual constructs and an acceptable degree of internal and/or external validity; the choice of statistical and/or mathematical analysis is appropriate as is the interpretation of results. Study results are objective and in such a form that other researchers could replicate the work. The work adheres to generally accepted standards for scientific ethics.

4. Logical Presentation of Research
The flow of ideas in the paper is logical and there is a clear tie between literature review and method and a clear link between method and results. The work is presented at a level of sophistication and length appropriate to the readership of an applied research project.

5. Clarity of the Writing
The work adopts a professional style and tone and is concise. It is grammatically correct and clear in its use of the English language. Figures and tables are clear and understandable; accurate and descriptive titles, legends, and labels are present.

Module 4 Discussion:

Understanding the Peer-Review Process and Quality Assurance in Academia

Within the Discussion Board area, write 400-600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions with your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.

Quality assurance is a holistic approach covering all the processes in academic research, in order to serve the students and other stakeholders in expected quality standards. The success of a quality assurance system depends on the support of academicians and the supporting academic institution.

Keeping this in mind, using at least two scholarly citations from peer-reviewed journal articles, make an argument for the peer-review manuscript process as a form of quality assurance in academia. Also, point out within the position statement why garnering supporting and differing viewpoints of one’s scholarly writing help aid in the overall research and discovery process of writing.

Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with at least a 100-word reply about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions:

· What did you learn from your classmate’s posting?

· What additional questions do you have after reading the posting?

· What clarification do you need regarding the posting?

· What differences or similarities do you see between your posting and other classmates’ postings?

Journal writing 10: A Modest proposal

Swift’s “A Modest Proposal” is one of the most famous examples of satire in the English language.  Why would he argue for the very behavior that he would want readers to shun?

Make sure you understand what the satire is and who is being criticized.  Think about what Swift would want to see changed.  Entry should be 350 – 400 words

A Modest Proposal

For preventing the children of poor people in Ireland,

from being a burden on their parents or country,

and for making them beneficial to the publick.

 by Dr. Jonathan Swift

 1729

It is a melancholy object to those, who walk through this great town, or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads, and cabbin-doors crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six  children, all in rags, and importuning every passenger for an alms.  These mothers, instead of being able to work for their honest livelihood, are forced to employ all their time in stroling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants who, as they grow up, either turn thieves for want of work, or leave their dear native  country, to fight for the Pretender in Spain, or sell themselves to the Barbadoes.

I think it is agreed by all parties, that this prodigious number of children in the arms, or on the backs, or at the heels of their mothers, and frequently of their fathers, is in the present deplorable state of the kingdom, a very  great additional grievance;  and therefore whoever could find out a fair, cheap and easy method of making these children sound and useful members of the commonwealth, would deserve so well of the publick, as to have his statue of him set up for a preserver of the nation.

But my intention is very far from being confined to provide only for the children of professed beggars: it is of a much greater extent, and shall take in the whole number of infants at a certain age, who are born of parents in effect as little  able to support them, as those who demand our charity in the streets.

As to my own part, having turned my thoughts for many years upon this important subject, and maturely weighed the several schemes of our projectors, I have always found them grossly mistaken in their computation.  It is true, a child just dropt from its dam, may be supported by her milk, for a solar year, with little other nourishment: at most not above the value of two shillings, which the mother may certainly get, or the value in  scraps, by her lawful occupation of begging;  and it is exactly at one year old that I propose to provide for them in such a manner, as, instead of being a charge upon their parents, or the parish, or wanting food and raiment for the rest of their lives, they shall,  on the contrary, contribute to the feeding, and partly to the clothing of many thousands.

There is likewise another great advantage in my scheme, that it will prevent those voluntary abortions, and that horrid practice of women murdering their bastard children, alas!  too frequent among us, sacrificing the poor innocent babes, I doubt, more to avoid the expence than the shame, which would move tears and pity in the most savage and inhuman breast.

The number of souls in this kingdom being usually reckoned one million and a half, of these I calculate there may be about two hundred thousand couple, whose wives are breeders;  from which number I subtract thirty thousand couple, who are able to maintain their own children, (although I apprehend there cannot be so many under the present distresses of the kingdom) but this being granted, there will remain a hundred and seventy thousand breeders.  I again subtract fifty thousand, for those women who miscarry, or whose children die by accident or disease within the year.  There only remain a hundred and twenty thousand children of poor parents annually born.  The question therefore is, How this number shall be reared and provided for?  which, as I have already said, under the present situation of affairs, is utterly impossible by all the methods hitherto proposed.  For we can neither employ them in handicraft or agriculture;  they neither build houses, (I mean in the country) nor cultivate land: they can very seldom pick up a livelihood by stealing till they arrive at six years old;  except where they are of towardly parts, although I confess they learn the rudiments much earlier;  during which time they can however be properly looked upon only as probationers;  as I have been informed by a principal gentleman in the county of Cavan, who protested to me, that he never knew above one or two instances under the age of six, even in a part of the kingdom so renowned for the quickest proficiency in that  art.

I am assured by our merchants, that a boy or a girl, before twelve years old, is no saleable commodity, and even when they come to this age, they will not yield above three pounds, or three pounds and half a crown at most  , on the exchange;  which cannot turn to account either to the parents or kingdom, the charge of nutrients and rags having been at least four times that value.

I shall now therefore humbly propose my own thoughts, which I hope will not be liable to the least objection.

I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious nourishing and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled;  and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricasee, or a ragoust.

I do therefore humbly offer it to publick consideration, that of the hundred and twenty thousand children, already computed, twenty thousand may be reserved for breed, whereof only one fourth part to be males;  which is more than we allow to sheep, black cattle, or swine, and my reason is, that these children are seldom the fruits of marriage, a circumstance not much regarded by our savages, therefore, one male will be sufficient to serve four females  .  That the remaining hundred thousand may, at a year old, be offered in sale to the persons of quality and fortune, through the kingdom, always advising the mother to let them suck plentifully in the last month, so as to render them plump, and  fat for a good table.  A child will make two dishes at an entertainment for friends, and when the family dines alone, the fore or hind quarter will make a reasonable dish, and seasoned with a little pepper or salt, will be very good boiled on the fourth day, especially  in winter.

I have reckoned upon a medium, that a child just born will weigh 12 pounds, and in a solar year, if tolerably nursed, encreaseth to 28 pounds.

I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for landlords, who, as they have already devoured most of the parents, seem to have the best title to the children.

Infant’s flesh will be in season throughout the year, but more plentiful in March, and a little before and after;  for we are told by a grave author, an eminent French physician, that fish being a prolifick dyet, there are more children born in Roman Catholick countries about nine months after Lent, than at any other season;  therefore, reckoning a year after Lent, the markets will be more glutted than usual, because the number of Popish infants, is at least three to one in this kingdom, and therefore it will have one other collateral advantage, by lessening the number of Papists  among us.

I have already computed the charge of nursing a beggar’s child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers, and four-fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included;  and I believe no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular friend, or his own family to dine  with him.  Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and grow popular among his tenants of him, the mother will have eight shillings neat profit, and be fit for work till she produces another child.

Those who are more thrifty (as I must confess the times require) may flay the carcass;  the skin of which, artificially dressed, will make admirable gloves for ladies, and summer boots for fine gentlemen.

As to our City of Dublin, shambles may be appointed for this purpose, in the most convenient parts of it, and butchers we may be assured will not be wanting;  although I rather recommend buying the children alive, and dressing them hot from the knife, as we do roasting pigs.

A very worthy person, a true lover of his country de él, and whose virtues I highly esteem, was lately pleased in discoursing on this matter, to offer a refinement upon my scheme.  He said, that many gentlemen of this kingdom, having of late destroyed their deer, he conceived that the want of venison might be well supplied by the bodies of young lads and maidens, not exceeding fourteen years of age, nor under twelve;  so great a number of both sexes in every county being now ready to starve for want of work and service: and these to be disposed of by their parents if alive, or otherwise by their nearest relations.  But with due deference to so excellent a friend, and so deserving a patriot, I cannot be altogether in his sentiments of him;  for as to the males, my American acquaintance assured me from frequent experience, that their flesh was generally tough and lean, like that of our schoolboys, by continual exercise, and their taste disagreeable, and to fatten them would not answer the charge.  Then as to the females, it would, I think, with humble submission, be a loss to the publick, because they soon would become breeders themselves: and besides, it is not improbable that some scrupulous people might be apt to censure such a practice  , (although indeed very unjustly) as a little bordering upon cruelty, which, I confess, hath always been with me the strongest objection against any project, how well soever intended.

But in order to justify my friend, he confessed, that this expedient was put into his head by the famous Psalmanaazor, a native of the island Formosa, who came from thence to London, above twenty years ago, and in conversation told my friend,  that in his country, when any young person happened to be put to death, the executioner sold the carcass to persons of quality, as a prime dainty;  and that, in his time, the body of a plump girl of fifteen, who was crucified for an attempt to poison the Emperor, was sold to his imperial majesty’s prime minister of state, and other great mandarins of the court in joints from the gibbet  , at four hundred crowns.  Neither indeed can I deny, that if the same use were made of several plump young girls in this town, who without one single groat to their fortunes, cannot stir abroad without a chair, and appear at a playhouse and assemblies in foreign fineries which they  never will pay for, the kingdom would not be the worse.

Some persons of a desponding spirit are in great concern about that vast number of poor people, who are aged, diseased, or maimed;  and I have been desired to employ my thoughts what course may be taken, to ease the nation of so grievous an incumbrance.  But I am not in the least pain upon that matter, because it is very well known, that they are every day dying, and rotting, by cold and famine, and filth, and vermin, as fast as can be reasonably expected.  And as to the young labourers, they are now in almost as hopeful a condition.  They cannot get work, and consequently pine away from want of nourishment, to a degree, that if at any time they are accidentally hired to common labor, they have not strength to perform it, and thus the country and themselves are happily delivered from the  evils to eat.

I have too long digressed, and therefore shall return to my subject.  I think the advantages by the proposal which I have made are obvious and many, as well as of the highest importance.

For first, as I have already observed, it would greatly lessen the number of Papists, with whom we are yearly overrun, being the principal breeders of the nation, as well as our most dangerous enemies, and who stay at home on purpose with a  design to deliver the kingdom to the Pretender, hoping to take their advantage by the absence of so many good Protestants, who have chosen rather to leave their country, than stay at home and pay tithes against their conscience to an episcopal curate.

Secondly, The poorer tenants will have something valuable of their own, which by law may be made liable to a distress, and help to pay their landlord’s rent, their corn and cattle being already seized, and money a thing unknown.

Thirdly, Whereas the maintainance of a hundred thousand children, from two years old, and upwards, cannot be computed at less than ten shillings a piece per annum, the nation’s stock will be thereby encreased fifty thousand pounds per annum, besides the profit of a  new dish, introduced to the tables of all gentlemen of fortune in the kingdom, who have any refinement in taste.  And the money will circulate among our selves, the goods being entirely of our own growth and manufacture.

Fourthly, The constant breeders, besides the gain of eight shillings sterling per annum by the sale of their children, will be rid of the charge of maintaining them after the first year.

Fifthly, This food would likewise bring great custom to taverns, where the vintners will certainly be so prudent as to procure the best receipts for dressing it to perfection;  and consequently have their houses frequented by all the fine gentlemen, who justly value themselves upon their knowledge in good eating;  and a skilful cook, who understands how to oblige his guests, will contrive to make it as expensive as they please.

Sixthly, This would be a great inducement to marriage, which all wise nations have either encouraged by rewards, or enforced by laws and penalties.  It would encrease the care and tenderness of mothers towards their children, when they were sure of a settlement for life to the poor babes, provided in some sort by the publick, to their annual profit instead of expence.  We should soon see an honest emulation among the married women, which of them could bring the fattest child to the market.  Men would become as fond of their wives, during the time of their pregnancy, as they are now of their mares in foal, their cows in calf, or sows when they are ready to farrow;  nor offer to beat or kick them (as is too frequent a practice) for fear of a miscarriage.

Many other advantages might be enumerated.  For instance, the addition of some thousand carcasses in our exportation of barrel’d beef: the propagation of swine’s flesh, and improvement in the art of making good bacon, so much wanted among us by the great destruction of pigs, too frequent at our  tables;  which are no way comparable in taste or magnificence to a well grown, fat yearling child, which roasted whole will make a considerable figure at a Lord Mayor’s feast, or any other publick entertainment.  But this, and many others, I omit, being studious of brevity.

Supposing that one thousand families in this city, would be constant customers for infants flesh, besides others who might have it at merry meetings, particularly at weddings and christenings, I compute that Dublin would take off annually about twenty thousand carcasses;  and the rest of the kingdom (where probably they will be sold somewhat cheaper) the remaining eighty thousand.

I can think of no one objection, that will possibly be raised against this proposal, unless it should be urged, that the number of people will be thereby much lessened in the kingdom.  This I freely own, and was indeed one principal design in offering it to the world.  I desire the reader will observe, that I calculate my remedy for this one individual Kingdom of Ireland, and for no other that ever was, is, or, I think, ever can be upon Earth.  Therefore let no man talk to me of other expedients: Of taxing our absentees at five shillings a pound: Of using neither clothes, nor houshold furniture, except what is of our own growth and manufacture: Of utterly rejecting the materials and instruments that promote foreign  luxury: Of curing the expensiveness of pride, vanity, idleness, and gaming in our women: Of introducing a vein of parsimony, prudence and temperance: Of learning to love our country, wherein we differ even from Laplanders, and the inhabitants of Topinamboo:  Of quitting our animosities and factions, nor acting any longer like the Jews, who were murdering one another at the very moment their city was taken: Of being a little cautious not to sell our country and consciences for nothing: Of teaching landlords to have at  least one degree of mercy towards their tenants.  Lastly, of putting a spirit of honesty, industry, and skill into our shopkeepers, who, if a resolution could now be taken to buy only our native goods, would immediately unite to cheat and exact upon us in the price, the measure, and  the goodness, nor could ever yet be brought to make one fair proposal of just dealing, though often and earnestly invited to it.

Therefore I repeat, let no man talk to me of these and the like expedients, till he hath at least some glympse of hope, that there will ever be some hearty and sincere attempt to put them into practice.

But, as to myself, having been wearied out for many years with offering vain, idle, visionary thoughts, and at length utterly despairing of success, I fortunately fell upon this proposal, which, as it is wholly new, so it hath something solid  and real, of no expence and little trouble, full in our own power, and whereby we can incur no danger in disobliging England.  For this kind of commodity will not bear exportation, and flesh being of too tender a consistency, to admit a long continuance in salt, although perhaps I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it.

After all, I am not so violently bent upon my own opinion, as to reject any offer, proposed by wise men, which shall be found equally innocent, cheap, easy, and effectual.  But before something of that kind shall be advanced in contradiction to my scheme, and offering a better, I desire the author or authors will be pleased maturely to consider two points.  First, As things now stand, how they will be able to find food and raiment for a hundred thousand useless mouths and backs.  And secondly, There being a round million of creatures in humane figure throughout this kingdom, whose whole subsistence put into a common stock, would leave them in debt two million of pounds sterling, adding those who are beggars by profession, to the bulk of farmers  , cottagers and labourers, with their wives and children, who are beggars in effect;  I desire those politicians who dislike my overture, and may perhaps be so bold to attempt an answer, that they will first ask the parents of these mortals, whether they would not at this day think it a great happiness to have been sold for food at  a year old, in the manner I prescribe, and thereby have avoided such a perpetual scene of misfortunes, as they have since gone through, by the oppression of landlords, the impossibility of paying rent without money or trade, the want of common sustenance,  with neither house nor clothes to cover them from the inclemencies of the weather, and the most inevitable prospect of intailing the like, or greater miseries, upon their breed for ever.

I profess in the sincerity of my heart, that I have not the least personal interest in endeavoring to promote this necessary work, having no other motive than the publick good of my country, by advancing our trade, providing for infants, relieving the poor,  and giving some pleasure to the rich.  I have no children, by which I can propose to get a single penny;  the youngest being nine years old, and my wife past child-bearing.

Urinary Elimination

Scientific Knowledge Base

Urinary elimination is the last step in the removal and elimination of excess water and by products of body metabolism. Adequate elimination depends on the coordinated function of _________________________, __________________, ___________________, and _________. The kidneys filter waste products of metabolism from the blood. The ______________________

________________ from the kidneys to the bladder. The bladder holds urine until the volume in the bladder triggers a sensation of urge indicating the need to pass urine. Micturition occurs when the brain gives the bladder permission to empty, the bladder contracts, the urinary sphincter relaxes, and urine leaves the body through the urethra.

Kidney

The kidneys lie on either side of the vertebral column behind the peritoneum and against the deep muscles of the back. Normally the left kidney is higher than the right because of the anatomical position of the liver.

Nephrons, the functional unit of the kidneys, remove waste products from the blood and play a major role in the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance. The normal range of urine production is ______________________________. Please convert to CC/day.  Erythropoietin, produced by the kidneys, stimulates red blood cell (RBC) production and maturation in bone marrow. The kidneys play a major role in blood pressure control via the renin-angiotensin system, release of aldosterone and prostacyclin. The kidneys also affect calcium and phosphate regulation by producing a substance that converts vitamin D into its active form.

Ureters

A ureter is attached to each kidney pelvis and carries urinary wastes to the bladder.

Bladder

The urinary bladder is a hollow, distensible, muscular organ that holds urine. The bladder has two portions, a fixed base called the trigone and a distensible body called the detrusor. The bladder expands as it fills with urine. How much urine can the bladder hold?

Urethra

Urine travels from the bladder through the urethra and passes to the outside of the body through the urethral meatus. The urethra passes through a thick layer of skeletal muscles called the pelvic floor muscles. These muscles stabilize the urethra and contribute to urinary continence. The external urethral sphincter, made up of striated muscles, contributes to voluntary control over the flow of urine. The female urethra is approximately 3 to 4 cm (1 to 1.5 in) long and the male urethra is about 18 to 20 cm (7 to 8 in) long. The shorter length of the female urethra increases risk for urinary tract infection due to close access to the bacteria contaminated perineal area.

Act of Urination

Brain structures influence bladder function.

Voiding: Bladder contraction + urethral sphincter and pelvic floor muscle relaxation

Bladder wall stretching signals micturition center.

Impulses from the micturition center in the brain respond to or ignore this urge, thus making urination under voluntary control.

When a person is ready to void, the central nervous system sends a message to the micturition centers, the external sphincter relaxes and the bladder empties.

M3 Assignment 2: DWI Case study

Assignment 2: DWI Case Study

George, Mark, and three other friends have planned to go out drinking for the evening at several nightclubs about 45 miles from Centervale. George has offered to drive the group in his Pontiac Bonneville. Although there are not enough seatbelts for everyone, the group piles into the vehicle and ventures out for a night of fun on the town. Several hours later, after visiting three bars, Mark drives the group to the next bar because George has had too much to drink. Unfortunately, Mark has also had too much to drink, which causes him to lose control and crash the vehicle.

When emergency services arrive on the scene, Mark is not seriously injured and is able to give details of what he believes happened to have caused the crash. George is seriously injured and is life-flighted to a trauma center along with another friend, one friend is deceased, but still seat belted in the car, and one friend who was thrown from the vehicle, sustained moderate injuries.

Highway Patrolman Green suspects’ alcohol might have played a role in the crash and asks Mark to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Mark fails the tests, and is arrested and charged with DWI. Mark awaits his Initial Appearance in court, while the Highway Patrol Reconstruction Team reconstructs the crash, calculates the approximate speed of the vehicle, and determines other pertinent facts.

The Highway Patrol officers review the case with the district attorney before Mark’s initial appearance. It is agreed that Mark can be charged with reckless driving, speeding, four counts of felony assault, and one count of involuntary manslaughter. Mark’s toxicology tests revealed a blood alcohol level of .21 and further evidence shows he was driving at 75 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

The Judge formally reads the charges, advises Mark of his rights, and appoints him an attorney during his initial court appearances. Mark posts bail while he awaits his arraignment. You are working with a Criminal Justice university course. The professor has asked you to create a 4- to 6-page case study about this case in Microsoft Word that will provide her students with a real world situation that demonstrates the basics of the class. Your case study must:

  1. Identify, define, examine, and discuss the crimes committed in the above scenario. Provide a state statute for your definitions. You may use any state.
  2. Demonstrate your knowledge of the criminal justice process that occurred in this scenario. Evaluate the beginning and end of the involvement of the criminal justice system in this scenario. Research your state’s view on deaths related to DWI/DUI offenses and the potential that this crime could be classified as murder. Relate each involvement to the court system or criminal justice system as a whole.
  3. Propose a possible “next step” for Mark and the case. Compare and contrast his possible options. What systems of the criminal justice system will be accessed with each option? Consider Mark’s rights as a defendant in this scenario from post-arrest through awaiting trial.
  4. Examine the rights of the victims as they related to the criminal justice process.
  5. If these crimes were committed in a state that has a grand jury system, discuss where in the series of steps the Grand Jury would hear evidence in this case. Compare and contrast states that have Grand Juries and states that don’t. Determine whether grand juries are effective in charging criminals or releasing innocent defendants. Use research to support that.

Submission Details:

  1. Save your 4- to 6-page case study in Microsoft Word as M3_A2_Lastname_Firstname.doc.

The Marketing Strategy For John and Ellen Grocery Delivering Service
: John and Ellen want to open their own grocery delivery service in a medium-sized city consisting of 250,000–750,000 people. The service will offer elements suited for the targeted demographic needs of the core consumers. The desire for grocery delivery services has exploded in recent years. Given people’s busy schedules and frustrations in finding daycare and balancing activities, grocery shopping can feel more and more like a chore, especially with small children. However, there is a great deal of competition between current services, spanning from Amazon’s Whole Foods to Instacart to Fresh Direct. Keeping this in mind, Joe and Ellen’s need for intensive marketing research is critical. Marketing research involves defining the problem that the business is attempting to address (and the opportunity it is seeking to exploit), developing a research plan, collecting the data, analyzing the data, and finally making the research actionable (Tomasetti, 2019). In this instance, this might include specifically addressing the problem of the target demographic. Is it busy professionals who simply don’t have time to shop? Families with young children? People who are elderly and are concerned about shopping? The service would likely have to target several demographics to be viable, but addressing the different needs of these target groups might require different strategies. Just as a varied approach to analyzing consumer demographics is necessary, so is an equally triangulated approach to research. Seldom is one type of research useful. For example, conducting surveys of the typical groups that make use of such services might be helpful. Focus groups (over Zoom or phone conferences) can likewise be useful to collect more anecdotal research that would yield unexpected insights that quantitative insights might not provide. Surveys require relatively little effort, which can yield large amounts of data, although the feedback can be low-quality. In contrast, interviews tend to be more involved and require more effort on both the part of the participants and the researchers. Interviews can be useful, even though they are anecdotal in nature. All of these data must be infused into constructing a viable business plan. Investors or backers, whether offering a loan or venture capital, wish to see evidence that there is a need for the service and that it will be successful. Once the service is launched, however, the market research must continue. For a Web-based service, this might require keeping track of goods and services bought, the number of Web site hits, and what promotional strategies (such as offering online coupons or 10% off a first-time order) result in return customers. To ensure continued investment and support, the company must not simply generate interest and customer traffic, but it must also be financially successful. Thus, the cost of running the business cannot just not exceed the gains. The marketing research should also be presented attractively to potential investors so that it can be easily assimilated and make a persuasive case for the business. If necessary, industry research about the grocery market in general may be useful to support the business’s case. For example, one concern of potential investors might be that postquarantine, interest in online shopping will decline. However, according to the leading trade publication, this is not the case. “Online grocery will swell to 21.5% of total U.S. grocery sales by 2025, more than doubling its current share of the overall grocery market” (Redman, 2020). Investors are likely eager to get on board with an industry-wide trend, and preliminary market research prelaunch can be costly, even when largely conducted online, so combining research from such trade publications with personal research is likely the most feasible approach for a startup. Address the following questions in your response: What is true of marketing research? Marketing insights provide what type of information about how and why people observe certain effects in the marketplace? When defining the problem, marketing managers must do what? What are the steps of the marketing research process? What is an example of primary data? What is a gathering of 6–10 people who discuss topics for a small payment? What is the most scientifically valid research? What type of research is small, relatively indirect, and unstructured? What type of research systematically provides measurable statistics? What phase of market research is usually the most expensive? What are the measures that quantify, compare, and interpret performance called? What tracks the satisfaction of various constituencies who have a critical interest in a company’s performance?

    Scenario
You are the regional sales manager for International Herb Express (IHE) which is a large, US-based spice & herbs supplier. IHE sells to other businesses that purchase bulk spices and spice blends for use in their end products. https://keenwriter.xyz/uncategorized/distinguish-between-traditional-personal-and-strategic-selling/ The primary customers are baking and soup mix corporations that sell to other businesses, for example, bakeries, restaurants, other food-service, and regional grocery chains. IHE is launching a new spice blend that reflects a more diverse cultural & ethnic flavor profile than IHE’s traditional offerings.
The abridged marketing strategy for this new spice blend is to target both current customers, but also to reach new customers that are target regions with higher ethnic diversity and/or the more adventurous “foodies” market. The marketing efforts will focus on taste testing, sampling, and on-site promotion. IHE is launching this marketing plan to help create a product offering that is not as commodity-driven (as most spices and herbs are the same quality no matter where they are purchased) and can potentially offer higher profit margins.
It is important to note that spices and other ingredients are raw goods and traded as commodities. The raw price for these goods changes on a day-to-day basis. Pricing is based on classic supply and demand, though nature is a key contributor to the supply–extreme weather as well as health of crops have a direct impact on the supply chain and access to the raw goods.
    Instructions
The VP of Sales & Marketing has asked you to prepare a memo that recommends a selling approach to the sales and marketing executive team for the new product spice blend. You will need to evaluate the 3 major selling styles and explain which style would work best for this new product sales plan. Additionally, the recommendation includes the sales approach to meet the goals of the marketing plan. The memo https://keenwriter.xyz/uncategorized/distinguish-between-traditional-personal-and-strategic-selling/ should suggest a statement about ethics as it relates to sampling of product and maintaining integrity of recipes used in taste testing and sampling.
    Your recommendation should include:

    • A review of each of the three selling styles: traditional, personal, and strategic.
    • Recommend a style for taste testing, sampling, & on-site promotion.
    • Include ethics statement on integrity and how to spend and verify expenditures.
    • Identify ways the sales-customer relationship can add value through this new product line.
