Speech Homework

Your post should include two things: one page please answer question 1&2 separately. 1. Explain what you learned about nonverbals from the videos. Be specific. 2. Share the impact/use of a specific nonverbal message in your life. This can be something you do to communicate nonverbally or something your friends/family/coworkers do to communicate nonverbally. For example, when children are not responding appropriately to verbal directions (“Get your shoes on” or “brush your teeth” or “put the Legos away”) some parents find that leaving off the words (verbal message) and cranking up intense eye contact generally does the trick. It’s funny how the eyes can often convey “I’m serious…do it now” more than actual words.   Links for the blog (view videos below before heading to the blog please watch videos on youtube.       Facial Expressions Facial Expressions Links to an external site.       Friends Friends Links to an external site.       State Farm State Farm Links to an external site.       Fire Fire Links to an external site.       Mustangs Mustangs Links to an external site.       For the Birds (Watch this FIRST) For the Birds (Watch this FIRST) Links to an external site.       Birds Analysis (Watch this SECOND) Birds Analysis (Watch this SECOND)

PowerPoint Assignment

The purpose of this discussion is for you to prepare a presentation to inform parents in your school/center about the benefits of play in the classroom and explain how play and learning are interconnected. You will collaborate with two peers in this discussion by offering feedback directly in their presentation (see the Guided Response instructions below). The scenario for this discussion is that you are hypothetically working in a school or center serving young children. Recently, at the school or center there have been some concerns brought up by parents about the amount of playtime that children in your classrooms are getting compared to the opportunities for academic learning. Your goal with the presentation is to communicate to the parents the importance of play. First, prepare for this discussion by considering the quote below:   Even if you are wholly in charge of your class or group of children, you may have a co-teacher or assistant, or you may be part of a bigger teaching team, which means that other individuals will influence or perhaps have some control over your planning. For example, teachers in a center or school, often plan collaboratively, as a group, by grade or age level. (Jaruszewicz , 2013, section 6.1, para. 4)   Do you notice how the author of your text emphasizes that there are many stakeholders who will interact with your students and possibly in your classroom, such as a co-teaching arrangement? To further prepare for this discussion, aside from reviewing the Instructor Guidance for Week Two and considering the quote above, read the NAEYC articles “Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8 ” and “Maximizing the Impact of Teacher Collaboration.” Additionally, if needed, review the Microsoft Office (2014) article about creating effective presentations, which is listed in the Recommended Resources for Week Two.    Initial Post: Create a PowerPoint presentation that is seven slides in length, including the title and references slides, and that is designed as a presentation you might give to an audience of parents and other adult stakeholders affiliated with the school/center described in the scenario for this discussion. Attach your PowerPoint presentation to your initial post. Your presentation slides must   Describe sensory play and give an example activity.  Describe construction play and give an example activity.  Describe dramatic play and give an example activity.  Explain how play is supported by NAEYC by addressing the tenth principle from the article “Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8.” Summarize the benefits of working collaboratively in the classroom or a center based on your reading of the article “Maximizing the Impact of Teacher Collaboration.”

***ALSO SEE ATTACHMENT******************* Prepare: To prepare for this discussion, make sure to read the assigned chapters of the primary text and to review the required resources, including the videos about arguments (in the “Lectures” link on the left). Before responding to the prompt, make sure as well to participate in the interactive scenario at the top of this page titled The Raise (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to gain more appreciation of the importance of constructing good arguments in life.        Reflect: Choose a topic from the PHI103 Final Paper Options  list. It should be a topic that you find interesting, but also for which you will be able defend a position with careful logical reasoning. Construct the strongest argument that you can on each side of the issue. Strengthen your arguments by contemplating possible objections to each  argument, and revise your arguments in light of the objections. Continue this process until you feel that your arguments for each side are as convincing as you can possibly make them.   Write: Present your two arguments (one on each side of the issue) in standard form (with each premise and conclusion on a separate line) on the topic you selected from the PHI103 Final Paper Options list. The two arguments should defend different positions on the topic. For example, if your topic was the existence of Santa Claus, then you would present one argument for the claim that Santa Claus does exist and another argument that Santa Claus does not exist. The premises of each argument will present reasons for thinking that the conclusion is true. Here is an example of what an argument in standard form looks like: Premise 1: If Santa Claus exists, then he lives at the North Pole. Premise 2: No one can live at the North Pole. Conclusion: Santa Claus does not exist.   For each argument, provide a brief explanation of the strengths and weaknesses of the argument. You might explain whether the argument is inductive or deductive, or you might provide a diagram of the argument. Think about how the two arguments compare to each other. Is one better than the other? If so, what makes that one better? Is each a fair presentation of what someone taking that position would say? Are the premises reasonable? How might each argument be made better?
