Raised in the System

You can also find the directions and grading rubric from clicking on the “Assignments” tab, then the “Writing Assignment” icon. You will be graded according to the guidelines of the rubric.

First, you will watch an episode of Vice called Raised in the System from HBO. The episode can be found here:While watching the episode, I want you to take notes on the subject of the film as well as any information that relates to the textbook, assigned journal articles, and class lecture notes.

Second, after watching Raised in the System, you will write at least a 7 page response in a word document with Times New Roman, 12 point font, and double spaced. You are encouraged to write more than 6 pages to increase the likelihood of receiving full credit on the assignment.  any extra identifying information do not count towards the length of the paper. If you add additional spaces in between sections or topics to increase the length of the paper, points will be deduced for not following directions. The response must cover the following information:

  1. A description of the episode. The description should convey that you understand the topic of the episode. The description should include specific details about the overall themes and topics covered in the episode. This section should be approximately 1/3 (at least 2 pages) of your entire response.
  2. Describe how Raised in the System connects to information that is provided in the textbook and at least 1 assigned journal article. Think to yourself as you write this section “How does the textbook and at least 1 assigned journal article connect to specific examples of what I watched in the episode?” This section should be approximately 1/3 (at least 2 pages) of your entire response. Be sure to cite (not directly quote) information from the textbook and journal articles(s) or points will be deducted.
  3. Describe how Raised in the System connects to information that is provided in the class lecture notes. Think to yourself as you write this section “How do the lecture notes connect to specific examples of what I watched in the episode?” This section should be approximately 1/3 (at least 2 pages) of your entire response. Be sure to cite (not directly quote) information from the class lecture notes or points will be deducted.

All three components of the response must be included in the response. Simply because you include all three required components does not necessarily mean that you will receive full credit.

  • For example: A student completes the assignment but only includes two sentences out of the entire response that relates to how Raised in the System connects to the material discussed in class lecture.
  • HINT: Divide the response EQUALLY (at least 2 pages for each section) into the three required components.

Sports management

After reading Chapter 11: Labor Law, answer the following questions in at least 1-3 paragraphs (at least 3 pages, in addition to a cover page and references page; at least 5 pages total):

1. Should college athletes be able to unionize? What are the pros and cons of the unionization of college athletes?

2. One term that unions and leagues are required to bargain collectively is wages. For sports leagues, wages generally relate to how a salary cap is calculated. Should team owners always be required to open their financial books to players in negotiating a salary cap? Why or Why not?

3. Why do professional athletes want to limit the length of a sport’s season? What motivates team owners to negotiate for the greatest number of games possible in a season? What is the best way for players and owners to reach an agreement on this issue?

4. To uphold section 8 of the NLRA, all that is required of employers and labor organizations is to meet and bargain collectively in good faith on the mandatory terms of collective bargaining. Neither side is required to make concessions, nor do they have to reach an agreement. Is this standard strong enough to promote strong labor relations in the United States? Why or why not?

5. What is the difference between a lockout and a strike? How effective are lockouts and strikes when it comes to employers and employees gaining concessions in collective bargaining? Use examples from recent collective bargaining negotiations between sports leagues and their players in making your argument

Policy Identification

Assignment 2: Policy Identification

According to the Council on Social Work Education, Competency 5: Engage in Policy Practice:

Social workers understand that human rights and social justice, as well as social welfare and services, are mediated by policy and its implementation at the federal, state, and local levels. Social workers understand the history and current structures of social policies and services, the role of policy in service delivery, and the role of practice in policy development. Social workers understand their role in policy development and implementation within their practice settings at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels and they actively engage in policy practice to effect change within those settings. Social workers recognize and understand the historical, social, cultural, economic, organizational, environmental, and global influences that affect social policy. They are also knowledgeable about policy formulation, analysis, implementation, and evaluation.

Walden’s MSW program expects students in their specialization year to be able to:

· Evaluate the implication of policies and policy change in the lives of clients/constituents.

· Demonstrate critical thinking skills that can be used to inform policymakers and influence policies that impact clients/constituents and services.

This assignment is intended to help students demonstrate the behavioral components of this competency in their field education.

To prepare: Working with your field instructor, identify a social problem that is common among the organization (or its clients) and research current policies at that state and federal levels that impact the social problem. Then, from a position of advocacy, identify methods to address the social problem (i.e., how you, as a social worker, and the agency advocate to change the problem). You are expected to specifically address how both you and the agency can effectively engage policy makers to make them aware of the social problem and the impact that the policies have on the agency and clients.

The Assignment (2-3 pages):

· Identify the social problem

· Explain rational for selecting social problem

· Describe state and federal policies that impact the social problem

· Identify specific methods to address the social problems

Explain how the agency and student can advocate to change the social problem

The Self-Aware Leader

Consider a time when you led change at the organizational or individual level. What was the result? Looking back, what could you have done differently to improve results?

The DNP scholar must have strong leadership skills because they are responsible for leading change. Healthcare professional management and leadership are essential for improving quality and transforming care. Leadership is defined as the relationship between those who lead and those who choose to follow and act to direct and coordinate the activities of a team or group of people toward a common goal (Ladkin, 2020).

When I reflect on my most outstanding achievement in my nursing field, I am contented to be able to be impactful and resourceful to the healthcare institution.

I began my professional work experience as an ordinary nurse, but I became a nurse care coordinator with hard work and advancement in my education. I knew I was tasked with implementing change where necessary and ensuring diabetes patients received utmost care (Zenger & Folkman, 2013).

At my work station, nurses were reluctant in offering quality health care and particularly to diabetic patients. I realized that most of the diabetic patients were readmitted frequently. After an in-depth assessment of the issue, I realized that nurses lacked an accurate medical history of patients.

To curb this, I assigned each nurse a set of patients for which they were responsible for their wellbeing. They were to collect each patient’s medical history, which was clear and detailed.

With time I realized a decline in the number of readmissions among patients.

This basic technique assisted in the reduction of readmission cases. I’m sure I could have done things differently to get the same results, but the process I put in place surpassed my expectations.

Consider when you knew you needed to make a change but chose not to due to time constraints. What was the result? How might you make time to work on necessary personal changes to support your leadership formation?

It inspired to make a shift many times in my professional career but cannot do so due to time constraints. I work at a large public hospital in Texas City, and the available resources are way below the stipulated flow of patients in the hospital. This condition has left no choice rather than to work with the minimal available resources.

A remarkable experience was an incident when I was assigned the duty of orientating a new staff nurse. While precepting the new nurse, I was thinking about how many things my department missed in orientation, including a preceptor checklist.
Though I lacked preceptor support, I gave the new nurse all of the handouts and tools I had and created my checklist of the most important things she needed to know to work well in her new position. Because I felt underprepared due to a lack of support, my orientee gave me a positive review and shared her satisfaction with my orientation experience. To assist in my leadership growth, I will continue to search out new ways to strengthen work processes and share my ideas with my coworkers and upper management. I requested the new staff for feedback that would aid in process improvement. I also informed the relevant management of the tools and resources needed for an effective orientation process.

Consider a time when you led change effectively. List the key insights gained from this effort. How can you use these insights to lead future change efforts?

There are several critical insights gained from effective leading. For change to be evident, I learned that I needed to be transparent, a timekeeper, leading by example, transparent, respectful, and enhancing teamwork during the change process (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2021).

Also, the ability to identify and solve issues is another critical insight gained from this effort. All the gained insights will help my professional and outside my professional since they are universal and applied in any given setting.

What critical external expectations determine the expectations you have for yourself as a leader?

As I begin my new position as a DNP practice scholar, I realize that I will need to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills because I will be a reform advocate who will also assist in the translation of change into clinical practice.

The DNP scholar has a significant role in leading progress, so I will need to keep working on the Zenger Folkman leadership survey’s weaknesses while also building on the strengths identified. Connecting with other professional groups outside of the workplace is one of the research items I would like to develop.

350 word paper and Project Priority Evaluation form

Ch. 2 of Project Management: The Managerial Process

Submit a 350-word paper (remember all papers in the class are APA format, need an intro/closing paragraph….word count for all class assignments does not count the intro/closing paragraph or any tables/charts included in the paper….in other words you need 350 words in the paper body). The paper is where you tell me the rankings and justify the decision.

Within the paper include a completed Project Priority Evaluation form.

ASSIGNMENT – You are a member of the class priority team in charge of evaluating and approving fund-raising projects. Use the provided proposal evaluation form to formally evaluate and rank each proposal. Be prepared to report your rankings and justify your decision. You should assume that these projects would be held at your university or college.

FUND RAISING PROJECT PROPOSAL 1: HOOPS FOR HOPE

The project is a three-on-three basketball tournament to raise money for the Down Syndrome Association. The tournament will consist of three brackets: Co-ed, Male, and Female teams. There will be a $40 entry fee per team and additional funds will be derived from the sale of commemorative T-shirts ($10).

Winning teams will receive gift baskets consisting of donations from local businesses and restaurants. The event will be held at the university recreational center

Potential Targets Responses

Provide (3) 150 words substantive response with a minimum of 1 APA references for RESPONSES 1, 2 and 3 below. Response provided should further discuss the subject or provide more insight. To further understand the response, below is the discussion post that’s discusses the responses. 100% original work and not plagiarized. Must meet deadline.

RESPONSE 1:

I would imagine myself as a state-sponsored actor planning an attack on a fictional country. The target I would select would be the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems on national resource companies. I would use weak security on the SCADA systems to infiltrate different industrial systems that control physical switches. I would mimic the attack that happened last week that attacked the Colonial Pipeline gas pipeline going up the east coast (Greenberg, 2021). The difference would be I wouldn’t have put ransomware on the system since I am a state-sponsored actor; I would try to input false information into the PLCs within the network. One example would be to input false information into a pump pushing the gas stating that the pressure of the gas coming out was less than what it should be experiencing. This would cause the pumps to work harder trying to hit the pressure they should be at. Eventually, the pumps would overheat and fail, causing the shut down of the pipelines. This type of attack could potentially cause a disruption of natural resources that the county I am a part of could then sell its own natural resources at a higher cost to gouge the country experiencing the shortage in a specific region that is being affected by the hacking. I would choose a country with relaxed guidelines on infrastructure systems hardening. The hope would be the SCADA systems would be located on an unsecured network that would be easily accessed by spoofing an internal IP address to gain access to local resources. It would be better to ensure deniability since the attack isn’t meant to physically harm anyone but to extort the nation of financial means.

RESPONSE 2:

This week i am going to be taking the role of a terrorist organization that is attacking a country to cause the most up roar possible. Since i a a terrorist in this situation the biggest concern for me is to cause the biggest and most server attack I can to this country. Well what is something that most people use on a daily bases and many need to live a functional life in todays world? That would be electricity and attacking the power grid can cause a extremely terrorizing event that leads to many deaths an mass panic across the targeted country. It would take a team of highly skilled hackers and lots of funding to pull off such an attack if it is even possible. Also recruiting of an insider would be the best option to insure the attack is success full. Choosing a insider someone who is in finical debt or can be black mailed would be the best to persuade to be the insider threat. The goal would be to overload and shut down multiple power stations that causes an over load on the entire power grid causing it to crash the entire country’s power shutting it off. If an entire country’s power was shut off the chaos that would follow would be detrimental to the country. There would be many deaths and panic would spread leading to rioting and looting across the country. Essential supplies would be bought up and even stolen as well as an overload for emergency services. The biggest thing that would effect this plan is the amount of security in place to protect the power grid of the country. Since this is such a vital utility it is heavily protected from this exact thing.

RESPONSE 3

As a terrorist, I would select military information as a cyber target. To attack the military systems, I would hack into the servers containing important information communicated by the military personnel regarding the country’s security. The technology available for military personnel is very advanced and gives access only to senior security officers responsible for the country’s security. The systems are well automated to detect any potential security threats that might not be authorized to access the information (Jarvis et al., 2017). To have a positive outcome, I would devise a better plan that contains advanced measures than the one available for the military at the moment. I would also use critical servers currently available to hide any form of identity that might expose my identity before completing the task. Better technologies are available that have not been adopted in significant security software, making the military more vulnerable to terrorist threats. The high levels of corruption in major military bases would also be effective in accomplishing my task and finally making a breakthrough in hacking the systems and gaining critical information that the highest-ranking officers should also know. It would be better to ensure the deniability of my attack to avoid future consequences. This would make it hard for the responsible authorities to take any action against my deeds.

QUESTION:  I think your plan would be very successful because even if the cyber attack was not as effective as you hoped for.  The fact that it created confusion, fear, and misunderstanding among the local populace maybe enough.   Would attempt to do this again?  Or look for another target?

pubh 8500 final exam

Answer the following questions. Copy and paste any required data charts or summaries into this Word document. Use additional space as needed. Be sure to include your name on the document and use the file naming convention. This exam is open book and open notes.

I. Two-way ANOVA (15 points)

A researcher is comparing the effects of 2 different asthma drugs on test performance. The researcher suspects that at least one of the drugs may have a different effect on fresh versus tired test takers. Data was collected on test results achieved by fresh and tired test takers after using each of the 2 drugs. There is concern that the exposure to these drugs could impair more than a person’s ability to take a test and therefore become a Public Health issue. The Research Question is: Does Drug A or Drug B impair test performance in either fresh or tired test takers? Please answer this question using the Final Exam – ANOVA (SPSS document) dataset and the following steps:

1. Conduct two-way ANOVA with interaction and post hoc analysis (as appropriate) using Tukey to correct for multiple comparisons. Provide relevant SPSS output. (10 points)

2. Interpret the analysis results in the context of the research question. Include important statistics from your analysis results to support your conclusion and generalize your results, if appropriate, to the relevant population(s). (5 points)

II. Multiple Linear Regression (25 points)

A health department randomly selected 400 subjects from a local community and monitored their cardiovascular condition. Data from this study are provided in the Final Exam – Linear and Logistic (SPSS document) dataset. The following variables are included in the database: sex, age, BMI, SBP, DBP, serum cholesterol, coronary heart disease, and follow-up.

1. Conduct a multiple linear regression using SPSS. Provide relevant SPSS output and assess the statistical significance of the effect of sex, age, and BMI on systolic blood pressure. (10 points)

2. Explain the practical implications of your finding. In other words, what is the clinical relevance of these results and how can the findings of this study be used in the real world? Include a reference to the R square of the model in your discussion. (5 points)

3. Discuss whether or not there is interaction (effect modification) between sex and age. (Hint: For this part you need to perform independent regression models for each variable looking at the association between sex and systolic blood pressure as well as age and systolic blood pressure. Then you need to perform another model for the combination of variables sex , age and systolic blood pressure. (10 points)

III. Multiple Logistic Regression (30 points)

Use the Final Exam – Linear and Logistic (SPSS document) dataset to assess the impact of sex, age, and BMI on the risk of coronary heart disease.

1. Conduct simple logistic regression of coronary heart disease and sex. (10 points)

2. Conduct a multiple logistic regression using SPSS to address the research question: What is the association between sex and coronary heart disease after controlling for age and BMI? (Hint: Add the variables of age and BMI to the model you used in #1.) (10 points)

3. Discuss how the addition of age and BMI in the model affected the association of sex and coronary heart disease using the Odds Ratios and confidence intervals in your output. (5 points)

4. Assess the statistical significance of the individual risk factors and explain the practical implication of your finding. In other words, what is the clinical significance of these results and how can the findings of this study be used in the real world? (5 points)

IV. Cox Proportional Hazard (30 points)

The Final Exam – Linear and Logistic (SPSS document) dataset, used in problems III and IV, also includes follow-up time (in days) from the beginning of the study to either onset of coronary heart disease or end of the study.  This allows you to also look at the relationship of sex to CHD using survival analysis techniques.

1. Complete a Kaplan-Meier Survival Analysis using Followup as the Time variable, Chdfate as the status variable and Sex as the factor. Produce a plot of the survival function. Discuss whether the survival time appears related to whether the person is male or female based on the survival plot. (10 points)

2. Use Kaplan-Meier in SPSS to test the assumption of proportionality. Create a Hazard plot with time = followed, status=Chdfate, and factor = sex. Interpret the results. (8 points)

3. Conduct a Cox Proportional Hazard regression to compare the time to coronary heart disease event between men and women. Include a Plot of the Hazards function stratified by sex in the output. Interpret the results. (8 points)

4. How does the hazard ratio compare to the odds ratio obtained from the simple logistic regression from the previous problem? Why might they differ?  (4 points)

Statistics project proposal

For the statistics project you are completing in this course, you will need to select a relevant topic that will allow you to gather both qualitative and quantitative data. You may gather data from a group of your choice using a data collection instrument (survey or data mining) that you design. Using the results of that collection instrument, you will create a data set, analyze the data, and create a professional report showing the results of the data that you collected.

For this assignment you will choose a topic and create a data collection instrument. When selecting a topic, remember you need to collect both quantitative and qualitative data. Data collection could be done in the form of a survey via a medium such as Survey Monkey or Facebook or through available workplace content such as sales orders. You will want to collect data from approximately 30 observations. This means you will want to survey at least 30 people or select data from 30 different sales orders.

Submit the topic of the study, a rationale (one or two paragraphs) outlining the purpose of the study, and the data collection instrument you created as a Word document. Include relevant survey links if the data is being collected digitally.

For this Module/Week 2 assignment, you are to write JUST a Statistics Project Proposal in a Word Docx file. In the Proposal, include 1) the topic of the study, 2) rationale (that is a need or gap in existing literature) of the study, and 3) how you will collect at least three (3) quantitative and least three (3) qualitative data from at least 30 people you will interview or at least 30 individual data from an existing data/database.

For this Assignment, you will consider the validity and reliability of different assessment tools and diagnostic tests.

When seeking to identify a patient’s health condition, advanced practice nurses can use a diverse selection of diagnostic tests and assessment tools; however, different factors affect the validity and reliability of the results produced by these tests or tools. Nurses must be aware of these factors in order to select the most appropriate test or tool and to accurately interpret the results.

Not only do these diagnostic tests affect adults, but body measurements can also provide a general picture of whether a child is receiving adequate nutrition or is at risk for health issues. These data, however, are just one aspect to be considered. https://paperwriters.xyz/uncategorized/for-this-assignment-you-will-consider-the-validity-and-reliability-of-different-assessment-tools-and-diagnostic-tests/ Lifestyle, family history, and culture—among other factors—are also relevant. That said, gathering and communicating this information can be a delicate process.

For this Assignment, you will consider the validity and reliability of different assessment tools and diagnostic tests. You will explore issues such as sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values. You will also consider examples of children with various weight issues. You will explore how you could effectively gather information and encourage parents and caregivers to be proactive about their children’s health and weight.

To Prepare

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider factors that impact the validity and reliability of various assessment tools and diagnostic tests. You also will review examples of pediatric patients and their families as it relates to BMI.
  • By Day 1 of this week, you will be assigned to one of the following Assignment options by your Instructor: Adult Assessment Tools or Diagnostic Tests (option 1), or Child Health Case (Option 2). Note: Please see the “Course Announcements” section of the classroom for your assignments from your Instructor.
  • Search the Walden Library and credible sources for resources explaining the tool or test you were assigned. What is its purpose, how is it conducted, and what information does it gather?
  • Also, as you search the Walden library and credible sources, consider what the literature discusses regarding the validity, reliability, sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, ethical dilemmas, and controversies related to the test or tool.
  • If you are assigned Assignment Option 2 (Child), consider what health issues and risks may be relevant to the child in the health example.
    • Based on the risks you identified, consider what further information you would need to gain a full understanding of the child’s health. Think about how you could gather this information in a sensitive fashion.
    • Consider how you could encourage parents or caregivers to be proactive toward the child’s health.

The Assignment

Assignment Option 1    A – M

  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test
  • Pap smear
  • Fecal occult blood test

Please provide a description of how the assessment tool or diagnostic test is used in healthcare.

  • What is its purpose?
  • How is it conducted?
  • What information does it gather?

Based on your research, evaluate the test or the tool’s validity and reliability, and explain any issues with sensitivity, reliability, and predictive values. Include references in appropriate APA formatting.
