SCI 207 Our Dependence upon the Environment No plagiarism plz

esponse posts to fellow students (optional) are due by Day 7. Prior to beginning this assignment, please listen to the podcast, ‘The Sound of a Snail’: A Patient’s Greatest Comfort (Links to an external site.).

Throughout this course, we have been exploring environmental issues and challenges, such as fresh drinking water scarcity and biodiversity loss. But what would our own lives be like without nature? How might nature experiences benefit us? In this activity, you are asked to spend time in nature, record your experiences, and then share your reflections with the class. This project is due on Day 3 (Thursday) of this week. Incorporate feedback that you have received and complete the sections below.

Note: You will not be able to view others’ projects until you have posted your own.

Go Outdoors: Find a place outside where you can be in nature for at least one hour. This could be a national, state, or local park, a city square with trees and gardens, an old cemetery, or even your own backyard. Be creative. For those of you who may think there is no nature whatsoever around you or you will not have the opportunity to get out into nature, the podcast ‘The Sound of a Snail’: A Patient’s Greatest Comfort (Links to an external site.) will give you get a sense of creative ways to complete this assignment, particularly if you are living in a highly urbanized setting.

Observe: Once you are outdoors, choose a comfortable spot where you can stand or sit quietly for at least 1 hour of uninterrupted solitude. Turn off all electronic devices. Quietly take in your surroundings. What do you notice? Use your senses of sight, hearing, smell, and feeling to take the world in. Be as still and quiet as you can.

Please note: You should plan to complete this step no later than Week 4.

Write: Either while you are outdoors or as soon after your return as you can, set aside at least a half an hour of uninterrupted time to write about your nature experience. It should include both what you directly experienced during your time outdoors and your feelings and reflections on the experience itself. In your writing, consider this question: Are human beings a part of nature, or apart from it?

Please note: You should plan to complete this step no later than Week 4. It is not necessary to share your journal work with anyone, but taking the time to write about your experience will provide you with valuable raw material for the next step.

Create: Choose a creative means of sharing your nature experience, and what you learned from it, with the class. This could take the form of a series of photographs with captions, a poem, a song, a brief personal essay, a work of art, the design for a board game, a video of some kind, or any other creative avenue you can think of. The work should be entirely your own product.

Please note: You should plan to start on this step by Week 4 at the latest.

Share: Share your completed creative project with the class by uploading it to the Nature Experience Project discussion board by Day 3 of this week. If your work is entirely visual or auditory (e.g., fine art, photography, music, etc.), please include a brief statement of 100 to 200 words that (1) relates your work back to your original nature experience; and (2) relates your work to the question of whether you feel you are a part of nature or apart from it. Upload visual or auditory content to an online repository that allows you to share a link to the content with others. Follow the directions for uploading your video to YouTube (Android Upload videos (Links to an external site.); iPhone/iPad Upload videos (Links to an external site.)) or other web-based video platform to obtain the link to share with others. Audio can be recorded or uploaded in Vocaroo (See Vocaroo’s (Links to an external site.) for more information).

As we continue to grow and advance as a country we must look into ways to help conserve and protect the natural resources that we have. One of the biggest detriments to this is the disposal of e-waste or electronic waste. E-waste classified as, “collection of personal and commercial electronic equipment that has reached the end of life.” (Dale, 2015) This collection of items can be; cell phones, laptops, microwaves, and refrigerators.

Currently, the United States does not have any laws on the books requiring any recycling of electronics for individuals or businesses. Some states such as California have elected to adopt their litigation on e-waste disposal. In California, “anyone purchasing a monitor pays a recycling fee that funds e-waste removal. (Martin & Harris, 2014) The pros to e-waste reuse are the health benefits to humans, animals and the environment. We can stop harmful chemicals from leaking into the ground by ensuring proper collection of these products. One of the major cons of e-waste reuse is that the cost outweighs the benefits from a financial standpoint. The article Electronic Waste: A Growing Concern in Today’s Environment states, “not much revenue can be created from the recovery of the materials making it more costly.” (Bhutta, Omar, & Yang, 2011) Unfortunately, because of this, any major corporation would not consider venturing into e-waste reusing as there would be a minimal benefit for them.

Individuals can assist with bringing about change by holding rallies or petitioning their local governmentto create legislation to address the e-waste reusing policies or lack thereof in some states.

Task 2: Business Continuity Plan – extracts from the Boiler Plate

<After discussions with management, the organization implemented the following Back-up Plan: all database files are backed-up to tape at the end of the day. These tapes are then stored offsite. The HNetPay data is backed-up daily and retained for 6 months. The HNetMessage messages are backed-up daily and retained for 3 months. All other data is backed-up weekly and retained for 60 days. If the BCP is executed, the most current tapes are copied and mailed to the alternate site.

Modify the statements below to reflect this decision. FAILURE TO MODIFY THIS SECTION WILL RESULT IN DEDUCTED POINTS!!!!>

Emergency management standards

Data backup policy

Full and incremental backups preserve corporate information assets and should be performed on a regular basis for audit logs and files that are irreplaceable, have a high replacement cost, or are considered critical. Backup media should be stored in a secure, geographically separate location from the original and isolated from environmental hazards.

Department-specific data and document retention policies specify what records must be retained and for how long. All organizations are accountable for carrying out the provisions of the instruction for records in their organization.

IT follows these standards for its data backup and archiving:

Tape retention policy

Backup media is stored at locations that are secure, isolated from environmental hazards, and geographically separate from the location housing the system.

Billing tapes

· Tapes greater than three years old are destroyed every six months.

· Tapes less than three years old must be stored locally off-site.

· The system supervisor is responsible for the transition cycle of tapes.

System image tapes

· A copy of the most current image files must be made at least once per week.

· This backup must be stored offsite.

· The system supervisor is responsible for this activity.

Off-site storage procedures

· Tapes and disks, and other suitable media are stored in environmentally secure facilities.

· Tape or disk rotation occurs on a regular schedule coordinated with the storage vendor.

Access to backup databases and other data is tested annually

Respondo eitho 2

you have seen that oftentimes the costs and benefits of solutions are hidden or revealed only when viewed from different perspectives. Consider those perspectives here and respond to two of your peers by discussing the benefits of the technological trend chosen by your peers. Debate who should pay for technological infrastructure in the healthcare system.  Response posts should be 100 to 150 words, with a minimum of one supporting reference included.

 Response 1

The purpose of this discussion is to explore technology and trends to help improve the healthcare of the aging adult community.  I have always seen the benefit of service animals for the disabled and elderly.  They provide support, comradery, and a sense of purpose. If someone that would normally not see a reason to get out of bed has an animal that needs them for food and support, they will see a reason to participate in the day.  I chose to delve into the idea of having robots assist those in the elderly community that needs aid.  There is a discussion if the addition of aid from a robot would contribute to the isolation of this population.  (Hersh, 2015) I will add that without the assistance the population may already be isolated due to the potential of immobility.  Their only contact may be the isolated caregiver that comes to assist on occasion.  With the addition of a live-in robot, the elderly patient may be more willing to communicate with others and even venture out of the house.  Robotic limbs have been around for some years now and have improved the lives of amputees.  Then there are the robotic teddy bears used in nursing homes to gauge responses and timing for their residents.  One introduces an autonomy portion while the other does not.

The addition of technology to aid in the  everyday and healthcare needs of the aging adult can be invaluable. The issue is when the cost out ways the benefits, who is going to pick up the bill for assisting a population that may have difficulty even paying for their housing? Little is known about individual end users’ willingness to pay for technology that has the potential to improve QoL and enhance functional independence in everyday life. (Hersh, 2015)  I believe that technology is the way of the future in healthcare.  Telemedicine allows individuals to stay in their homes longer and seek advice or treatment over the phone for video conferences.  Remote monitoring and medication delivery are allowing rural communities to stay healthier when they cannot come into the city for aid. This technology is vital to keep the aging community healthy and safe at home as well.  I feel this needs to be incorporated into the tax reform and/or Medicare/Medicaid contributions.  Technology will help keep the vulnerable populations out of the hospital by providing preventive care and monitoring.

Response 2

The most beneficial up and coming trend worth investing in to improve healthcare for aging individuals and their families in the United States is telehealth and telemedicine. The usage of telehealth and telemedicine has increased within the last year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and new isolation restrictions. Telehealth allows Americans the accessibility to communicate with their various physicians and keep up to date with follow up appointments. Telehealth allows for the delivery of care and exchange of healthcare information across distances via technology (Brown Cooper, 2015). Telehealth has made a positive impact on numerous patient populations, including the general, rural, prison, underserved, and military populations (Brown Cooper, 2015). This technology has also reduced the cost of health care delivery while providing greater access to health care services and education. For elderly individuals with physical or mental disabilities that make transportation to healthcare facilities a challenge, tele health alleviates the financial and time-consuming burden of transportation. This is especially beneficial for the family members of the elderly individual as they no longer must coordinate and facilitate the various modes of transportation. As elderly individuals are also at high risk for developing infection or disease, telehealth limits their exposure. There are financial benefits of telehealth as a doctor’s office does not need to be fully staffed nor assistive equipment necessary. As a result, increased use of telehealth could significantly reduce medical expenses.

Conversely, telehealth can have negative impacts on the wellbeing of elders. As telemedicine is typically done via video call, there is significant limitation in the clinicians’ physical assessment of the patient. They are unable to perform vital assessment skills such as assessment of lung and heart sounds as the patient in not in the physical presence of the clinician. In patients with chronic conditions such as COPD, congestive heart failure, or heart valve disease, telehealth may be detrimental as key physical changes may be present and unassessed at time of telehealth appointment. Greenwald et al. (2018) discovered that without an in-person communication component, technology-based interventions alone are not effective in improving medication adherence rates or patient outcomes. Telehealth must be used in adjunct to in person appointments.

When considering this technology trend, funding should be similar to if the patient were to attend a typical in person doctor’s appointment. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, provided $200 million funding towards telehealth, which helps clinicians to provide connected care services to patients from a distance (Federal Communications Commision, 2021). As telehealth can decrease the costs associated with healthcare long term, it will be essential to further expand and develop to meet the increased healthcare demands.

This is homework is on:

The UC Davis Pepper Spray Incident occurred on November 18, 2011. The Occupy Movement had engaged itself in a protest demonstration against tuition hikes at the university level. Some news reports indicated that the protestors refused to comply with the lawful order to remove their encampment from school property. This eventually led to the arrest of at least one of the protestors. According to the UC Davis Chief of Police, the protestors had surrounded the officers and would not let them leave with their prisoner. This stand off lasted for an extended period of time during which officers repeatedly asked the protestors to break down their encampment and remove themselves from the area. The protestors lack of compliance eventually led to several of them being pepper sprayed.

According to the Huffington Post (9/26/12), the pepper spray incident led to a lawsuit where a settlement was reached for $1 million dollars. Of this amount, $31,000 was awarded to each of the 21 students who were peppered sprayed. The remaining balance went to attorney fees and other miscellaneous expenses. ACLU Attorney Michael Risher stated, “What happened on November 18 was among the worst examples of police violence against student demonstrators that we’ve seen in a generation.”

Some reports indicate that an internal affairs investigation concluded the Lt. Pike acted reasonably. Also, the Yolo County DA’s office declined to file charges against him. He was later relieved of his duties and awarded a $38,000 workers compensation claim due to the incident. Lastly, the tuition hikes were still approved despite the demonstration.

Keeping in mind the obligation an officer has to uphold the law and the current wave of criticism from the public pertaining to use of force incidents, (shootings, taser, physical altercations, and pepper spray). What do you think the officers could have done differently, or not done to address this situation? Please be specific in your answers and consider the officer safety concerns.

philosophy paper for brilliant answers

Your assignment is to write a short paper in which you will discuss and defend your opinion on the following topic:  A proof of the existence of God(s)

I would like you to choose to support God exist

you should (a) pick one of the proofs and (b) explain why you do or do not believe that it is correct.

Your paper should:

1. Be between 950 and 1100 words in length (this is approximately 3 – 4 pages).  If the paper is less than 950 or more than 1250 words in length, you will lose points.

2. Have one inch margins all around and use 12 point, Times New Roman or Arial font.

3. Focus on making the best arguments possible.  This is not a research paper, so you should not spend significant amounts of time studying various online or text sources.  I am chiefly interested in your ability to coherently defend your opinion.  Your conclusion is not as important as how well you are able to defend it.

4. Explain the basics of the theory or proof that you choose. If you do not understand circular reasoning, for example, there is no way that you will be able to write an effective defense of why you believe it is correct, because you cannot argue in favor of it if you do not understand it.

5. Avoid citations, since this is intended to be an original work that you, personally, craft. If you must use citations (from your textbook or other source), use them sparingly.  I prefer Chicago-style citations, but I will accept MLA.

Benchmark – Language Disabilities and Assistive Technology Unit Plan

Understanding the development and individual differences of students with disabilities allows special education teachers to respond appropriately during instruction, utilizing supportive instructional strategies and technologies to meet student needs. Using assistive technologies, such as alternative and augmentative communication systems, to support instructional assessment, planning, and delivery, is essential to the language development and communication of students with disabilities.

Read the case study below to inform the assignment.

Case Study: Stephanie

Grade: 5th

Age: 10

Stephanie is a fifth grade student who is intellectually disabled and also has a severe language disorder. She is 10-years-old and spends a great portion of her day in self-contained settings. She receives speech therapy from a speech pathologist for a minimum of 30 minutes, four days a week. The rest of the time her language needs are supported by the special education teacher. She does attend a general education fifth grade classroom daily for 60 minutes for English language arts instruction, per her parent’s request. An instructional assistant accompanies her to class.

Stephanie’s oral expression skills are in the below average range. She struggles with oral expression speech, expressive language, and meanings of words. Her speech is limited and she usually has poor decoding and reading comprehension skills. Her reading level is at a low first grade level, reading simple stories with a Lexile level of 275-400. Her favorite book is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. Stephanie writes very little and relies on the Picture Exchange System as her primary form of communication.

Stephanie attends the fifth grade English language arts class for exposure to more appropriate grade level content and socialization. She requires frequent breaks and one-on-one support from an assistant when participating in the general education setting. The special education teacher and assistant work with the general education teacher and follow the modified curriculum from the state department of education.

For standardized grade-level testing, Stephanie participates in the yearly Alternate Assessment. The assessment is administered orally by the teacher and a proctor is present. The assessment is multiple choice and the administrator can accept eye gazing, finger pointing, and verbal responses to answer questions. The assessment is not timed and the teacher can apply the 10 response rule: If the student does not respond after 10 questions, the teacher can end the assessment.

Assignment:

Use the “ELA Mini-Unit Template” to complete this assignment.

Part 1: Student Goal

Write a measurable reading comprehension goal for Stephanie’s IEP. Within the goal, incorporate an alternative and augmentative communication system to support her communication and learning.

Part 2: Mini-Unit

Compose a mini-unit of three ELA lesson plans for the general education classroom that incorporates your ELA standards for teaching reading comprehension to fifth graders.

For each lesson plan include differentiated activities and assessments for Stephanie that use the AAC system identified in Part 1 to allow her to access the curriculum and address her measurable IEP goal.

Part 3: Rationale

Provide a 250-500 word rationale that explains how your mini-unit instructional choices are developmentally appropriate for teaching the content standards, and how the differentiated activities and assessment will allow Stephanie to meet her goal and fully access the curriculum. Address how your accommodations and differentiation create a supportive learning environment that encourages self-advocacy, increases independence, and emphasizes safe and ethical use of information and technology for Stephanie.

Support your rationale with 2-3 scholarly resources on best practices regarding semantics/language disorders and the use of assistive technology.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.
