IoT and Special Needs Users

Examine IoT systems and how they may assist people with special needs. Special needs individuals is a broad term that could encompass a wide variety of individuals ranging from those who are deaf/hard of hearing, have vision issues, or have other different abilities that will affect how they use computing devices.

Part A)

You should begin by reading the work by Ferati et al. that discusses requirements gathering for users with special needs. For this first part of this assignment, you will take a position  on the arguments made in this paper, and examine the following:

  • What position does the paper take? What are some of the primary arguments they are making, and what reasons do they have for backing up these claims?
  • Do you agree with the position taken in this paper? Use external sources to back up your argument.
  • How could the paper be improved? How could you expand upon this work?

This assignment will serve to help acclimate you to some of the challenges faced by special needs computing users.

Part B)

For the second part of this week’s assignment, you should propose a new way in which IoT devices can help a group of users with special needs. Your  proposal should include:

  • What group(s) of special needs users do you intend to target? Define the group(s) and the challenges encountered by the group(s).
  • How will the IoT device assist this special needs group?
  • Demonstrate a development plan. How will you accomplish your goals?
  • What risks will you encounter, and how will you overcome them?
  • How will you measure the effectiveness of this proposal?

Be sure to include external references (at least 5) to support your proposal.

Lengths: Position paper: 2-3 pages; New IoT proposal: 1-2 pages; Total: 3-5 pages, not including title page and references

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral  University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

B‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍OTH QUESTIONS NEED TO BE ANSWERED

B‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍OTH QUESTIONS NEED TO BE ANSWERED (1000 words each) 1. Anthony is involved in a road traffic accident when a plank falls from a skip being transported on the back of a lorry. The plank smashes through the windscreen of Anthony’s car. A fragment of glass lodges itself in Anthony’s eye. An ambulance takes him to Kent Hospital. Jacoob, a surgeon employed by the hospital, undertakes eye surgery on Anthony’s eye, but Anthony loses his eyesight in the eye. Jacoob performed the surgery to the best of his ability.

Jacoob did not warn Anthony of a risk of blindness because he was of the opinion that Anthony was unable to make a reasoned decision about surgery in his condition following the accident. Jacoob believed the surgery was urgent. Medical evidence obtained by Anthony states that the type of eye surgery performed carries with it a 10% risk of blindness. If Anthony had chosen not to undergo surgery, he would probably have been left partially blind in the damaged eye. Blood alcohol tests taken at hospital revealed that Anthony had had at least one large glass of wine in the hour before his road traffic accident.

Advise Anthony whether he has any claims in the tort of negligence. (1000 words) 2. What justification can there be for imposing liability in tort in the absence of fault? Answer with reference to examples of strict liability considered in the module. KEY: – Full referencing not need only an in-text short reference (Williams, 2003) – 1st Question is a problem question and 2nd is a standard essay question – Use content from the provided resources (no external research should be used) – Do not plagarise or use parts from other online essays Problem

Question Guidance: (ONLY) – Focus on a few specific issues within some (but not all) of the potential claims and concentrate on providing some in-depth analysis of those issues rather than providing a superficial treatment of all issues. – the Problem Question will not require you to cover all the elements of the Tort of Negligence. It is therefore even more important than normal to focus your analysis on the main issue or issues. – You are required to cite case law, legislation, books and articles in answering a problem question, just as you would in writing an essay – The IRAC METHOD SHOULD BE USED FOR THE PROBLEM QUESTION (Will upload in files guidance to this)

1. Identify the groups https://proficientacademichelpers.com/essayquestions/ of important facts – the issues – relevant to the party/parties you are asked to advise. 2. For‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ each issue (i) identify the legal rules (statute and case law) which a court would use to resolve issues of that kind and (ii) explain and analyse the rules and (iii) apply them to the facts. a. To ‘explain’ a rule means to say what the rule is in your own words. b. To ‘analyse’ a rule means to break it down into its key ingredients and to set out the test or standard which it establishes.

c. To ‘apply’ a rule to the facts means (i) to methodically match the components of that rule to relevant elements of the facts and (ii) to draw a conclusion on whether the test or standard in the rule is satisfied. Sometimes, that conclusion will be uncertain because the rules to be applied are ambiguous, or the facts described are incomplete. Often, you will have to set out two or more alternative conclusions, and make a decision as to which, in legal terms, is the most plausible. It may be ‘for the court/jury to decide’, but it is for you to advise. There is room for critical legal thinking in both essays and problem questions.

However, in a problem question answer, you are expected to maintain the discipline of a practising lawyer, and this will limit the types of argument available to you. In essays, it is often appropriate to explicitly discuss theories and ideologies which originate outside law (. feminism, Marxism) and to make upfront political arguments about how the law should be. By contrast, in answering a problem question you must confine yourself to those political and public policy arguments like to influence a court. You can also be critical in a problem question by pointing out the finer points of applicable legal rules (extra reading of judgments and articles is useful here) which have a bearing on the case.

Or you might wish to suggest (with due caution) scope for judicial modification of an existing rule (citing persuasive case law from other jurisdictions, obiter statements, dissenting judgments, Law Commission reports or blackletter academic argument). In other words, you can do anything in your problem question which you have ‘seen’ barristers attempt in the cases which you have read. Usually, your introduction and conclusion will be very short. In a sentence or two, you can state who you are advising, on what issues and whether they have a prospect of success. But you can leave the detailed discussion of the law for the body of your answer. A long, general introduction which could have been written in answer to any question on this area of‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ law is always inappropriate.

Assignment Content

  1. The CEO of the manufacturing company you are currently consulting for has now asked you to look into implementing a CRM. The company currently uses spreadsheets to track sales calls and a paper address book to keep customer information. The CEO has asked you to research and recommend a CRM that will meet the company’s needs.

Research at least three CRM packages.

Use Microsoft® Excel® to create a comparison table that compares the pros and cons of each package.

Select one product for the manufacturing company.

Create a 10- to 12-slide narrated, multimedia-rich Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation for the customer on why implementing the chosen CRM is prudent. Be sure to address the following:

    • Why the chosen package is most appropriate
    • How this software will be an improvement over their current methods
    • How the chosen CRM package will fit into the overall enterprise of the organization
    • The benefits customers can expect as a result of implementing the new software
    • Notes:
“Multimedia-rich” includes audio and video components. Multi-media aspects of the presentation examples include the following:

      audio

    •  including audio within the presentation (Insert > Audio),
    •  narration of the slide contents via detailed speaker notes,
    •  incorporating an audio component (URL, flash) with relatable content, or

Beginning meetings appropriately with clients is essential, since the first impression is often the lasting impression. Generally, the therapeutic assessment interview takes place during the initial meeting between the client and the counselor. During this interview process, the counselor will gather, assess, and analyze pertinent information from the client about their current cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioral experiences, precipitating factors/events, and mental health history, including their family history.

As you may imagine, disclosing this information can be difficult for most people. Beginning a therapeutic relationship can provoke feelings of anxiousness. Clients generally feel anxious to have the problem bringing them to therapy resolved, but they are also anxious about whether there will be a connection with the counselor, and what they can expect from the therapeutic process. To help relieve clients of these anxious feelings, counselors are encouraged to frame the purpose and the process of counseling by setting the tone for the relationship. Counselors can achieve this task by using the initial meeting to establish the therapeutic relationship, setting boundaries, and establishing rules and expectations of the helping context such as confidentiality, crisis management, professional disclosure statement, etc.

Think about how you would set the tone and establish a therapeutic relationship with a client. Demonstrate how you would begin your initial meeting with a client. Include the following in your introduction response:

  • Explanation of the counseling process including the purpose of the therapeutic assessment interview
  • Identify counselor and client expectations (what the client can expect from you and you from them)
  • Explain what will happen during the initial meeting and subsequent sessions
  • Limits of confidentiality
  • Checkout question
  • Door opener

Leverage

Before starting on this assignment, make sure to carefully review the background readings. Part A requires you to make some computations, and Part B requires you to analyze some scenarios using your knowledge of the concepts. So make sure to go through the computational examples in the required readings and also thoroughly review the key concepts before starting on this assignment.

Case Assignment

Part A: Quantitative Problems

  1. Suppose QuickCharge Corporation manufactures phone chargers. They sell their chargers for $20. Their fixed operating costs are $100,000 and their variable operating costs are $10 per charger. Currently they are selling 30,000 chargers per year.
    1. What is QuickCharge’s EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) at current sales of 30,000?
    2. What is QuickCharge’s breakeven point?
    3. Calculate the EBIT if QuickCharge’s sales increase 50% to 45,000 chargers. What is the percent of change in EBIT under this increase in sales? Also, calculate the EBIT if the company’s sales decrease 50% to 15,000 chargers. What is the percent of change in EBIT under this decrease in sales?
    4. What is QuickCharge’s degree of operating leverage? Based on your computation, what does its operating leverage say about QuickCharge’s business risk?
  2. The StayDry Umbrella Corporation will have an EBIT of $100,000 if there is a normal amount of rain this year. But if there is a drought, they will have an EBIT of only $50,000. The interest rate on debt is 10%, and the tax rate is 35%. The company does not pay any preferred dividends.
    1. If StayDry has zero debt and 50,000 outstanding shares, what will its EPS (earnings per share) be if there is normal rain? What will its EPS be if there is a drought? What is its DFL (degree of financial leverage)?
    2. Now suppose StayDry has decided to take on $300,000 in debt and has used these funds to buy back half of the outstanding shares so now there are only 25,000 outstanding shares. What is the new EPS and DFL for both normal rain and drought?
    3. Based on your answers to a) and b) above, what are the trade-offs management has to make between zero debt or $300,000 in debt? What are the benefits and disadvantages of taking on this debt?

Part B: Conceptual Questions

  1. For each of the following scenarios, explain whether the situation describes financial risk or business risk. Explain your answers to each scenario using at least one of the references from the background readings:
    1. A pharmaceutical company has developed a new cancer treatment drug that has a much higher success rate than other drugs currently in the market. It has the  potential to triple the company’s profits. However, the FDA has expressed concern about some side effects, and it is not clear if the FDA will approve the drug.
    2. An airline has an EBIT of $100 million per year. However, it also has a huge amount of debt and pays $97 million per year in interest. Its EBIT is relatively stable but tends to go up or down by $5 million or so each year depending on the economy.
    3. A basketball franchise earns an EBIT of $50 million a year when its team has a winning year. However, it earns only $10 million when its team has a losing year.
  2. Explain what capital structure theory (or theories) best describes the following situations. Make sure to cite at least one of the required textbook chapters for each answer, and to cite at least two references for this section:
    1. A CEO decides to borrow $50,000 in new debt, and the share prices rise dramatically. He then decides to sell half of his own personal shares, and when this is reported in the Wall Street Journal, the share prices drop dramatically in value.
    2. The corporate tax rate rises from 35% to 45%, and the XYZ Corporation decides to issue more debt. A year later, bankruptcy laws are changed to become much stricter and costlier. XYZ then decides to pay back half of its debt.
    3. A CEO named Joe Bigwig is known for living large with very expensive cars and a huge mansion. Joe is seeking a large loan from a bank to finance some new projects for his corporation. However, the bank becomes concerned when they find out that he recently used company funds to buy a brand-new company jet and also schedules numerous business trips to Hawaii and stays in five-star hotels. The bank tells Joe he will receive the loan only if he agrees to scale back on his personal expenses and not give himself or any other executives a raise until the loan is paid back.

Assignment Expectations

  • Answer the assignment questions directly.
  • Stay focused on the precise assignment questions. Do not go off on tangents or devote a lot of space to summarizing general background materials.
  • For computational problems, make sure to show your work and explain your steps.

Validation Exercise Business Analytics

This assignment provides you an opportunity to utilize the functions and tools of Excel to solve a basic analytics scenario: data validation.  The purpose of this assignment is to use Excel to quickly identify the possible errors within the database, and not to visually examine all 6,000+ database records.

The HR tab in Hospital.xlsx file contains the employee records downloaded from the Human Resource database of a fictitious hospital. As with any acquired data, you must be aware of the limitations of your dataset.

The sourcing database for Hospital.xlsx has a limit of twenty (20) characters for the Address 1 and Address 2 fields.  Therefore, truncated addresses are not considered errors. The only errors in the Address fields that can be easily identified in Excel would be a missing address or an address of insufficient length to contain a deliverable address. Six characters is the minimum length for an address (e.g. “1 U St”.)

To accurately identify the possible errors in the Address 1 field, through Excel, you would need to create a parsing algorithm to correctly determine the components of an address including the primary address number, pre-directional, street name, suffix, post-directional, secondary address identifier, and secondary address.  Compound this with the Address 1 truncation issue and the creation of such an algorithm would be way too advanced for this course.  Therefore, there are NO Address 1 fields errors except a missing address or an address of insufficient length to contain a deliverable address.

Data is required in all fields except Address 2 and Phone. If a phone number is entered it must adhere to the 999-999-9999 format.  No rules concerning cases exist for any field.

Both five-digit zip codes and zip+4 zip codes are allowed in the Postal Code field.  Also, remember that a zip code may have more than one authorized city or spelling. Only one US zip code in Arizona (85142) crosses county lines.

On the Errors tab in Hospital.xlsx file, document each error by identifying the location of the error (ID Number), the type of error (omission, range, data entry, etc.), the correct information if known, and the formula used to identify the error.  You receive 1/2 point for each error record identified; i.e. even if a record contains more than one error, you receive only 1/2 point for that record. At least 100 data error records exist in this file.  Extra credit is available.

Fifty percent of the score for this assignment is using Excel functionality correctly, e.g.. using functions such as LEN, TRIM, CONCATENATE, IF and Boolean logic, and lookup, match and index logic.  A well done assignment is a combination of finding a large number of erroneous records and doing it using Excel logic as opposed to manually identifying erroneous records.

An additional file name Zipcode.xlsx is available as a reference.

Remember, use Excel to sort and filter the database. Also, use the lookup and reference; text; and logical functions to complete this assignment. If you do not explain how the error was identified, you do not get credit for the error.

social worker essay

Required Essay Each student’s essay should address the following:  The reasons for your interest in and selecting the social work major  Personal attributes that contribute to o your preparation for social work o your academic readiness to study social work, and o your potential success as a social worker o any particular strengths that may contribute to your being an effective social worker o You may also consider addressing weakness, if any, in your application. For example, if you had a semester or more of low academic performance in the past, it is appropriate to discuss this, and demonstrate how it served as a learning experience, and to also add what has changed so you can now be academically successful. o Students are cautioned about self-disclosure and should only do so if it makes a wider argument for entry into the program. You are not expected to disclose intimate details of your life. However, if you choose to disclose a personal problem or event from the past, you should make it clear how the issue has been resolved so that you may now succeed in the program. Any such discussion of a problem or trauma should be brief and should focus on how this experience informed you in ways to be a good social worker.  Any work, volunteer, and life experience that have shaped your decision to enter the field  Long-term academic goals  Long term career or professional goals. This essay is your opportunity to both explain your reasons for wanting to enter the social work profession and to demonstrate the strength of your writing. Your essay will be assessed on how well it conveys an argument, as well as the your ability to write according to academic standards, including but not limited to, essay structure, grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. Both content and writing will be assessed by the Admissions Committee. Essays must be typed, double-spaced, and at least three pages in length and should comply with academic standards in writing.

1. Select an economic case that affected or lead to the creation of a policy. This could be a domestic or international case study. If you are unsure of a case study at the beginning of the semester, begin researching economic principles and its effect on policy. You are welcome to refer to the previous Short Writing Assignments as a guide for your final project. a) Your project must identify a social phenomenon and a policy (or policies, if you decided to compare different policies with each other) that addresses the phenomena. How was the policy adopted? How was it implemented? Is there a big difference between the adoption and implementation process? For this requirement, you should think of the models of policy process we discussed throughout the semester. b) Identify the economic benefits and costs prior to the adoption (or amendment) of your selected policy. Be sure to also include tangible and intangible factors (you do not have to measure the factors, but you should be able to identify them appropriately in your project) c) Identify the positive and negative externalities of the adopted policy. Who were the stakeholders? Who was primarily affected? How has this policy affected public well-being? d) Your project should offer multiple perspectives that would explain the benefits, costs, and externalities of your topic. What were the conflicting ideas/proposals? What would you propose that would merge the conflicting ideas and proposals to meet half-way? e) Take a stance on whether or not you think your selected policy is a success or failure. Provide examples to explain your stance. 2. You should have at least five scholarly sources (peer reviewed) for your final paper. 3. Your final paper should be between 15 – 20 pages in length (APA, double spaced) 4. You should apply the economic and public administration theories and principles learned throughout the semester to your project.
