Week 3 Project – BUS3055

Due June 22 at 12:59 AM

BUS3055 Individual Project Instructions

To make the course engaging for each student, you will select a legal topic to research in Week 3.  A list of potential topics is linked to this assignment.  Although you are not required to select the exact topics listed, you should select something closely related. Try to select a topic that reflects an issue that is related to a concern you have in your professional life. If your topic is not on the list, contact your instructor for approval.

With the exception of the introduction, you must use the headings that are explained below and the information must be presented in that same order.

Introduction

Provide a short introduction to the topic. Provide some background about the topic selected and why it was selected. Include definitions as necessary. Use more than one paragraph, if needed.

Note:  Do not use the term Introduction for the heading, as APA does not use that term. See APA materials in the Library Research Guide.

Article Review

Locate two scholarly articles related to your topic.  Summarize the articles in your own words and explain how each is related to your topic. Do not use court cases in this section. You must use scholarly articles from the South University Online Library. Legal journals may provide some of the best sources of information.

Laws and Regulations

Research and analyze one law or regulation related to the topic you selected. The information may require research of federal and/or state laws, as well as administrative agency laws.  Summarize the information about the law or regulation you found and explain how it applies to your topic.

Cases

Locate one published case (lawsuit)  that is related to the topic you selected.   Summarize the case in your own words and explain how it is related to your topic.  Provide a summary that includes the name of the case, state or federal court, issue, summary of events and ruling.  Explain whether you agree or disagree with the court’s decision.   The following sources may also be helpful.  You must read the case and not a summary of the case from a blog or other article.

History 2 Discussion 5

 260 words

Discussion #6: Did America really practice isolation and neutrality during WWI?

In 1914 Woodrow Wilson proclaimed U.S. neutrality, and asked the American people to remain “impartial in thought as well as deed.” At the end of the war, some members of the government pushed to expand American influence but to also remain free of any commitments, a policy its critics referred to as isolationism.

In order to prepare for this discussion forum:

After you have completed your readings post a response to only ONE of the following questions.

  1. In your opinion, was U.S. policy in Asia and Latin America between from late nineteenth century to 1914 truly isolationist? Discuss and support your response.
  2. In your opinion, did America remain neutral in “thought and deed” from 1914 to 1917? Discuss and support your response.

In order to earn the full 100 points (100%) for this assignment, you must:

  1. Directly and completely answer at least ONE question. Please make sure that you clearly indicate which question you have chosen to discuss. Clearly and accurately explain your answer based on factual information contained in the assigned readings. (80 points)
  2. Students must respond to at least one fellow student’s posting explaining the reason(s) for their agreement or disagreement, with the arguments that have been presented, in order to get full credit for the discussion. (20 points)
  3. When posting your response to a fellow student’s comment, please try whenever possible, to select the question that you did not address for your discussion.
  4. Make sure that all statements are supported with facts from the reading selections.

Reminder: Please make sure to comply with all Netiquette Guidelines listed in the Getting Started module.

QNT/275

You manage Human Relations for your company. One of your sales managers has retired, leaving an opening. You are considering two different employees for the position. Both are highly qualified so you have decided to evaluate their sales performance for the past year.

Use the Week 4 Data Set to create and calculate the following in Excel®:

  1. Determine the range of values in which you would expect to find the average weekly sales for the entire sales force in your company 90% of the time.
    • Calculate the impact of increasing the confidence level to 95%?
    • Calculate the impact of increasing the sample size to 150, assuming the same mean and standard deviation, but allowing the confidence level to remain at 90%?
  2. Based on the calculated confidence interval for weekly sales on the sample of 50 reps at a 90% confidence level:
    • Calculate both Reps’ average weekly performance and highlight if it is greater than the population mean.
  3. You want to determine whether there is a statistically different average weekly sales between Sales Rep A and Sales Rep B.
    • Create Null and Alternative Hypothesis statements that would allow you to determine whether their sales performance is statistically different or not.
    • Use a significance level of .05 to conduct a t-test of independent samples to compare the average weekly sales of the two candidates.
    • Calculate the p-value?
    • Refer to the Handout and Tutorial (by Dr. Larry)
  4. Considering that individual you did not promote:
    • Determine whether this person’s average weekly sales are greater than the average weekly sales for the 50 sales reps whose data you used to develop confidence intervals.
    • Create Null and Alternative Hypothesis statements that would allow you to determine whether the new Sales Manager’s weekly average sales are greater than the sample of Sales Reps.
    • Use a significance level of .05 to conduct a t-test of independent samples to compare the average weekly sales of both.
    • Calculate the p-value?
    • Refer to the Handout and Tutorial (by Dr. Larry)

Criminal Justice System: Developing a Law

QUESTION #1

SELECT A TOPIC PROBLEM THAT IS RELATED TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM THAT YOU BELIEVE NEEDS A LAW TO ADDRESS.  THIS CAN BE A CRIMINAL LAW OR CIVIL LAW.  DEVELOP A LAW TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT YOU BELIEVE WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM YOU HAVE DEFINED.    THEN EXPLAIN HOW YOUR LAW ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM.  ANTICIPATE ALL OF THE PROBLEMS THAT YOUR LAW WILL SOLVE AND THOSE THAT IT WILL CREATE.  DISCUSS THE POLITICS OF PASSING THE LAW AND HOW LIKELY IT WOULD BE TO PASS AND WHY.   DISCUSS THE SOCIAL BENEFITS AND COSTS OF YOUR LAW.   WHO WILL OPPOSE IT AND WHO WILL SUPPORT IT.   HOW WOULD YOU PROPOSE INTRODUCING YOUR LAW TO THE PUBLIC.   DON’T SELECT A PROBLEM THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN ADDRESSED, I WANT THIS TO BE A SERIOUS ATTEMPT AND DEALING WITH A SERIOUS PROBLEM.

QUESTION #2

ADDRESS THE SAME ISSUES OUTLINED IN QUESTION 1  IN AN EXISTING LAW THAT YOU BELIEVE DOES NOT DO WHAT IT WAS INTENDED TO DO.

ANSWER BOTH QUESTIONS IN OUTLINE FORMAT BUT INCLUDE  DETAILS AND DISCUSSIONS.

WHEN I ASK THAT YOU ADDRESS THE COSTS,  I WANT YOU TO TALK ABOUT SOCIAL COSTS OF THE LAW AND THE FINANCIAL COSTS OF THE LAW.  WILL YOUR LAW SAVE MONEY?  IF YES FOR WHOM.   WILL YOUR LAW COST MONEY?

MMIS 671 – Constrained Optimization Problems

A small business produces 3 types of cables: A, B, and C. The cost of in-house production is estimated to be $6, $12, and $10 per foot of A, B, and C respectively. The manufacturing process requires machining and finishing. The machining and finishing time needed to produce a foot of each type of cable are presented in the table below.

For the coming production period the firm is contractually obligated to produce 60,000 feet of A, 80,000 feet of B, and 90,000 feet of C. As only 800 hours of machine time and 400 hours of finishing time are available, these demands cannot be met by in-house production alone. The firm has the option of procuring these cables from an external supplier in order to meet the demand. The cost prices (from the external supplier) per foot of cable are as follows: $8 for A, $15 for B, and $12 for C.

The production manager has to decide how much of each type of cable to produce in-house and how much to purchase from the external supplier in order to meet the demands exactly and minimize total cost. The data is summarized below:

3. Sensitivity analysis:

Explain in each of the following cases whether you expect the costs to increase, decrease, or remain unchanged when the following parameters are changed (one at a time). Assume that all other parameters remain at their original values. Please be as brief and precise as possible in your explanations.

(i) The production cost for a foot of cable A increases to from $6 to $7.

Cost will: increase, decrease, remain unchanged.

Reasoning:

(ii) The purchase cost for a foot of cable B increases from $15 to $16.

Cost will: increase, decrease, remain unchanged.

Reasoning:

4. Memorandum based on sensitivity analysis:

Given that the current production capacity is insufficient to meet the demand through in-house production alone, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) wants to know whether the firm should consider increasing the availability of finishing time. Write a short (one paragraph) memorandum to the COO with your recommendation. The memorandum should also specify at most how much the firm should be willing to pay per hour to increase the availability of finishing time (beyond the current availability of 400 hours).

Case Study 4 -1: Telecommuting with a New Twist

A global survey published in 2019 indicated that 99 percent of the respondents would like to work remotely at least some of the time and 95 percent of the respondents indicated that they encourage others to work remotely.86 In another survey published the same year, 47 percent of respondents indicated that a remote work policy is important to them when looking for a new job. Also, 40 percent indicated they would consider a pay cut for a job that allows them to work from anywhere. Appen, Dell, Appiro, Cisco, Salesforce, ConsenSys, GitHub, Lenovo, Ultimate Software, and Rackspace are among the top tech companies hiring remote workers. The job titles for telecommuters include search engine evaluator, voice data collector, digital project lead, software engineer, and AR/VR solutions architect. Working from home offers some clear advantages for both employees and employers. It also offers some disadvantages, such as lack of control and monitoring; however, this is changing. Using computer-monitoring software, employers are now able to check if employees are working or slacking off. One such software application is InterGuard (Awareness Technologies).

To make telecommuting more productive, some employers set targets for each employee to accomplish in a given period. Other employers review summaries of different Web sites that employees have visited and the amount of time that employees have spent on various Web sites. Some other employers track projects and schedule meetings on shared calendars in order to monitor their employees. Still other employers require “virtual face time” via e-mail, instant messaging, video chat, or calls.

Answer the following questions in a Microsoft® Word document and save the file on your computer with your last name in the file. (Example: module_04_case1_Jones.doc)

  1. Is a telecommuting policy a benefit that is essential to attracting top employees to a company? Why or why not?
  2. What types of job functions are suitable for telecommuters?
  3. What are some methods that employers use to monitor their employees?
  4. What is an example of a software tool that is used for employee monitoring? What are the benefits and drawbacks of using employee monitoring software?

Creative Character Perspectives Assignment

The Assignment

For this assignment, you will write a creative piece which takes the perspective of a character or persona other than the main character or persona of a text, taking Wide Sargasso Sea’s revision of Jane Eyre as an extended example. You may also choose to narrate a portion of a text that is not covered in the original, such as a portion of the eight years when Jane is at Lowood.

If you are struggling with coming up with ideas, try focusing on a particular scene from one of our texts and imagining it from a perspective other than the one from which it is being narrated.

Don’t feel limited by genre; for instance, you might choose to re-write a section of A Streetcar Named Desire as a prose narrative from Stella’s perspective. Or you could rewrite “The Raven” as a poem from the raven’s perspective. Writing a longer poem or series of shorter poems is acceptable and encouraged, though you will need to work with me to determine the equivalent to the required word count.

You are not required to write in the same style as the original text and my general goal is not to hinder your creativity in any way. Please check with me if you have questions about your ideas.

Finally, you must write a 500-word reflection on the process of rewriting the text. What did you learn? What were the difficulties you faced? How did the rewriting enhance or change your view of the original text?

Specifications

Word count: 1000-1500 words, plus a 500-word reflection

Percentage of course grade: 20% (200 points); creative portion is 150 points, reflection is 50

Submission format: .docx upload to Canvas

Margins: 1” all around

Spacing: Double

Week 11

Read chapter 32 of the class textbook and review the attached PowerPoint presentation.  Once done answer the following questions;

1.Do you think that the societal norms for men regarding expressing emotion and social support have changed in recent years? Why or why not? If so, how can community health/public health nurses take an advantage of this to help men improve their health?

2.Are there differences in the ways that homosexuality in men and women are viewed by general society in the US? If so, why do you feel that these differences exist? From where or whom do people get their messages about homosexuality or other non-heterosexual lifestyles?

As stated in the syllabus the assignment must be presented in an APA format word document, Arial 12 font attached to the forum on the discussion board.  A minimum of 3 evidenced-based references must be used (excluding the class textbook) and 2 replies to any of your peers sustained with the appropriate references must be posted.  Only the assignment must be attached in a word document in the forum, replies do not.  References must be no older than 5 years.  A minimum of 700 words is required.  Please follow the instructions on how to present the first page and the name of the assignment when you post should be Week 11 discussion questions, not my name or blackboard posting

Develop Own Drug Abuse Prevention Program

 *ONLY 3-4 PARAGRAPHS*

Imagine you were asked to develop a drug abuse prevention program based on the 9 principles outlined under “Prevention Research”. Using these principles as a foundation or guide, describe your program. Additional resources are provided for additional guidance into essential components of a prevention program.  Be creative. (Consider advances in technology such as Apps).  Remember to consider families.

“Prevention Research”: Prevention programs are not “one size fits all”; instead, they need to address the factors that influence use and addiction at various developmental stages and must also be customized to the culture, community, and alcohol and other drugs of abuse. Prevention programs are the most effective interventions if they utilize the following principles (National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA], 2014).

1. Enhance protective factors and the reduce risk factors to reinforce resiliency (Hawkins, Catalano, & Arthur, 2002).

2. Strengthen protective factors such as improved parent and child communication and involvement (Hawkins, Kosterman, Catalano, Hill, & Abbot, 2008).

3. Focus on all substances used in the community and population with an emphasis on risk and resiliency factors (Hawkins et al., 2002).

4. Prescribe the format and content for the community demographics, and protective and risk factors (Chou et al., 1998).

5. Focus on developmentally appropriate prevention and interventions addressing specific risk factors (e.g., parental monitoring) (Kosterman, Hawkins, Haggerty, Spoth, & Redmond, 2001).

6. Diagnose and remediate factors associated with addictions such as aggression, depression, poor social skills, and impulsivity (Beets et al., 2009).

7. Target academic, social, and emotional learning environment, including peer support and communication, study skills and academic support, self-reliance, peer pressure resistance, and accurate antidrug information (Beets et al., 2009).

8. Target developmental transition points such as elementary to middle school and high school to college. All students at transition points are included and, therefore, there is no stigma involved with participation (Hawkins et al., 2008).

9. Combine several evidence-based preventative interventions to have a more powerful impact.

Discussion Response – General Purpose Data Structures

Please respond to the discussion posted below with a minimum of 150 words and use references.

There are several different types of lists that are commonly used in  Java. Amongst these are Arraylists, LinkedLists, and Vectors. Unlike  arrays, these list methods are dynamically sizable which makes them  extremely convenient to use. Also, only one data type can be stored per  array and lists can store multiple data in one list. Arraylists and  Vectors are not suitable for storing primitive data types and instead  must store all data as an object (TUI, n.d.).  The biggest differences  between these three methods are how they store and access elements.  These differences make them better and less suited for storing data in  specific scenarios. For instance, if you will be adding a lot of  elements but not doing a lot of searching then a LinkedList may be your  best bet. If you can predict scalability of data but still need a  dynamically sizable array that is searchable, then a Vector might be the  most useful. If memory usage is not paramount but you want a high  amount of search speed, then an ArrayList is an easy choice. To provide a  clearer picture of the differences, here are some examples of the code  of each method.

A  linked list is a type of list which in the context of programming means  that it is linear collection of elements whose order is determined by  the elements around it (Linked List, 2021). In linked lists, these  elements are known as “nodes” which each node pointing to the next  element in the set with a “head” node at the start of the list and a  “tail” or null node to end the list.  Vectors are synchronized, can increment 100% of its size is adding an  element exceeds capacity and can use both enumerator and an iterator  (Parahar, 2019). Like ArrayLists, they also keep insertion order.  Because memory increase is done in increment, this means that they are  more resource friendly than ArrayLists. Because they are synchronized,  only one thread can access a Vector at one time. Ultimately, these make  Vectors more memory friendly but slower than ArrayLists, but still  capable of better search functions than a LinkedLists.
